It’s almost game day and time to play your Super Bowl celebration. Even if your team isn’t in the lineup, snacking your way through the plays (and the commercials) has become a cultural event.

Whether it’s just your own little family or you’re planning to host a party, there are some quick and easy ways to really get into the spirit of the day. Here are some tips to help you get started:

Hit the Dollar Store

To set the tone, pick up some decorations to turn your home into football central. There are many places where you can purchase (or order online) gridiron goodies, but I like to check out the dollar store first. You’d be amazed by the things you can find for a fraction of the cost.

While you’re there, grab some disposable plates, cup, and cutlery. The dishes can really pile up on Super Bowl Sunday so this will make clean up a cinch. Pick team colors or grab some in the shape of footballs, if they have them!

Finger Foods You Won’t Fumble

Leading up to the game and during that first half, people will be looking for things to snack on. Have an assortment of finger foods ready, along with small plates and napkins. One of the easiest things you can do is set out a bowl of tortilla chips (with some bags ready for refill) along with salsa and queso.

You can also stock up on a variety of frozen appetizers to please every palate. A few minutes before everyone arrives, throw some mozzarella sticks and potato skins in the oven, slide them onto a plate and serve alongside marinara and ranch dip. So simple!

The Halftime Hustle

Plan to serve your heartiest fare during halftime when everyone will be watching the performance and the best commercials of the evening! There will be plenty of debate about what’s happened in the first half of the game too, so you don’t want anyone feeling hangry!

Bring out a slow cooker filled with chili on the “keep warm” setting so that people can help themselves. Be sure to have some crackers and crusty rolls laid out too. Meatballs and mini sliders are also great, but you can’t have a Super Bowl party without wings! While buffalo flavor is traditional, you could also serve them plain along with a selection of sauces, including buffalo and barbecue.

Designated Drivers

Many people enjoy having a few beers or other alcohol during the Super Bowl. Really, this will depend on your personal preferences and the guests you’ll be hosting. Even if you don’t plan to serve alcohol at your party, someone could show up with some. You have to be prepared for this.

The last thing you want is a tragedy following a day of fun, so plan ahead and ask if anyone would be willing to act as the designated driver. Even if they have to make several trips, it’s better than having people drink and drive. If space allows, you can also offer your guests a place to crash for the night, eliminating this potential problem altogether.

It feels like the new year has just begun but we’re already preparing for Super Bowl Sunday! Planning ahead can help make your party a hit, but at the end of the day, just focus on having fun and enjoy yourself.
