With Thanksgiving right around the corner, you might be working on your menu and getting your recipes together for the big day. Whether you’re simply bringing a dish to someone else’s house or planning the entire meal at your home, menu planning is a big part of the celebration. And, what would Thanksgiving dinner be without some type of dessert?

The most traditional type of dessert to enjoy after Thanksgiving dinner is pumpkin pie. And, while pumpkin pie might be the star of your Thanksgiving meal, there are many other types of pie you can enjoy. Just a few options include sweet potato, apple, mince, blueberry, and even custard.

But, what if you don’t want to have pie for dessert? Or, what if you’d like to offer another option that isn’t pie? Thankfully, there are several different options you can serve at Thanksgiving that aren’t pie.

Why not serve a pumpkin roll? A pumpkin roll is a delicious thin layer of pumpkin cake that is rolled with a layer of sweetened cream cheese frosting in between. When the pumpkin roll has been sliced, what you see is a swirl of pumpkin cake and frosting. It’s festive, attractive, and absolutely delicious. Try this recipe from Gimme Some Oven.

If you’re looking for a decadent dessert, consider a pumpkin cheesecake. Everyone loves cheesecake whether it’s drizzled with chocolate syrup or topped with cherries, but pumpkin cheesecake is perfect for Thanksgiving. Check out this pumpkin cheesecake recipe and see how your guests enjoy it this year.

For those that prefer a lighter holiday dessert, have you considered a pumpkin parfait? Layers of homemade pumpkin pudding and whipped cream make a delicious Thanksgiving dessert that isn’t as filling as a slice of pie or a piece of cake. Check out this pumpkin parfait recipe from Confessions of an Overworked Mom. It uses Greek yogurt for a lower fat content.

If you want a dessert that any Cookie Monster would enjoy, try these Pumpkin Cheesecake Snickerdoodle Cookies from The Recipe Critic. They have all the delicious pumpkin taste of a pie in bite-size cookie form. Best of all, you can have seconds without feeling guilty.

For those that are looking for a dessert that’s a little less traditional, consider cobbler. This pumpkin pecan cobbler from Lauren’s Latest is on my list of recipes to try this year. It has a delicious pumpkin layer that is topped by a layer of cobbler with pecans. Then each serving is topped with vanilla ice cream right before it’s served.
