Some days, I feel like I spend hours in the kitchen. Not only is there the cooking and clean up to deal with, I also have to deal with menu planning, shopping and organizing.  As much as I love my kitchen, I can think of a number of other ways that I would rather spend my weekends.  Thankfully, there are several different food apps to save you time in the kitchen.  These are just a few of my favorites.

Food Apps to Save You Time in the Kitchen

One of my all time favorite food apps is Epicurious.  Epicurious will help you plan out a full menu for your meal. You can plan everything from beverages and appetizers to entrees and desserts.  The app divides recipes into categories so you can search for healthy lunches or party snacks depending on what you need.  There are thousands of searchable recipes. You can save them to an organized recipe box and generate handy shopping lists for your next trip to the store. Epicurious is a free app by Conde Nast.

If you enjoy finding new recipes, I’m sure you’re familiar with a website called AllRecipes.com. Well they have an app too. The app is a little different from the website. You select three variables: type of dish, ingredients and how long it takes to prepare. It then shows you results based on those variables. An added plus is that there are over 1000 recipe videos you can watch as well with step by step instructions. There is a free version as well as a paid version that offers a few more benefits.

Fooducate is one of my favorite healthy apps.  You can use Fooducate to scan barcodes on food items in the grocery store. It will tell you how healthy the food is, information about the ingredients and alerts for any “food imposters” like high fructose corn syrup.  This app will also suggest healthy alternatives for the food you have scanned so you can make a better choice while finding something similar to what you’re looking for. There are both free and paid versions of this app.

Harvest is a handy app for anyone who has looked at a fruit or vegetable and wondered how to store it or when it was ripe.  I hope I’m not the only one that has gone shopping, brought home an avocado and then realized it wasn’t ripe enough to use. Who really knows how to tell if certain fruits or vegetables are ripe? Harvest offers information about how to pick out the best produce as well as storage tips and information on pesticide levels. Harvest costs $1.99.

What are your favorite food apps to save you time in the kitchen? Have I missed one that you really like?
