As everyone is aware, water is essential for so many reasons: weight loss, good skincare, mental clarity, and a well-functioning body to name a few!

Health professionals used to say that you should drink eight 8 ounce cups of water a day (for a total of 64 ounces). Studies since have produced varying recommendations over the years, with the most recent being that your water intake should be unique to the individual. It takes into account many factors, including your height, weight, health, your activity level, and where you live. The result falls somewhere in the range of ½ ounce to 1 ounce for each pound you weigh. This means a man weighing 150 pounds should drink 75-150 ounces of water a day. And if you exercise, you should add 12 ounces for every 30 minutes you work out.

How do we achieve this new goal of daily water intake? It can get pretty boring just drinking plain water. Here are five creative ways to help you reach your goal.

Add Flavor to Your Pitcher

Chugging down all that water can become very boring and make you lose all interest in getting your daily allotment. Make a water infusion by adding sliced citrus fruits or apples, berries, mint, cucumber, ginger, or even cinnamon. I like to mix a couple of varieties in mason jars each morning, and then top off with water as I drink throughout the day.

Drink a Full Glass of Water Before Each Meal

Doing this is beneficial in multiple ways. First, it helps you drink enough water to achieve your goal. Second, it helps to fill your stomach up so you do not feel as hungry as you would otherwise. This results in eating less, which results in your consumption of fewer calories, which can help you to lose weight.

Drink a Glass During Your Common Daily Activities

Start a habit of linking water with your most common daily activities. Drink a glass of water as you change your clothes. Every time you get up to go to the bathroom, drink a glass of water. Once you get into a habit, it will be the norm and help you to drink all those ounces of water!

Record Your Intake

There are several free apps that you can use to help record your water intake and also send you reminders to drink up. There are even high tech water bottles that record the data and send to an app on your phone.

Choose Sparkling Water over Sodas

Sparkling water is just as hydrating as water, it just has carbonation added to it with none of the sugar found in a soda. Sparkling water, also known as seltzer water, club soda, soda water, or fizzy water, is much better for you than a regular or diet soda. So, if you need a little bubbly during your day, reach for a glass.

It is hard drinking a large amount of water each day. Use some of these tips to make it easier. Ultimately, your body will thank you.
