Bananas and onions, bacon and chocolate, avocado and coffee – what do these three combinations have in common? To some they may sound absurdly disgusting! But to others, these combos are surprisingly tasty and a real treat for the adventurous foodie. Surprisingly easy to make, and quite tasty, definitely give these unique recipes a try.

Banana and Onion Soup

Though the name sounds quite disturbing, this recipe is quite yummy. Once the onions are cooked down they are sweet and compliment the bananas very well. This recipe is more like a dessert soup and is great served both hot and cold.

Ingredients:

  • 6 ripe bananas
  • 3 sweet onions (chopped)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Boil all the ingredients together for 20-30 minutes. Strain and boil again for about 5 minutes, or alternatively, blend in blender and serve hot. Can also be chilled and served cold.

Chocolate Covered Bacon

Chocolate covered bacon has become quite the rage in most food circles. You will find it in many gourmet dessert offerings, as well as in restaurants. Here is an easy way to try chocolate covered bacon at home.

Ingredients:

  • Wax paper
  • 12 thick slices of premium bacon
  • 12 wooden skewers
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 6 ounces candy coating (white or chocolate)
  • tablespoon of shortening

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Skewer each strip of bacon individually. Bake bacon in oven for 25 minutes and let cool completely on rack. Meanwhile, melt candy coating, shortening, and chocolate in the microwave . Watch the mixture closely and stop when mixture is fully melted. Stir out until completely smooth. Brush the melted chocolate onto the bacon strips and place on wax paper. Place them in the refrigerator until the chocolate is completely cooled and firm. Serve.

Es Alpukat (Avocado and Coffee)

You are probably familiar with the latte and the mocha, but have you heard of the Indonesian delight Es Alpukat? Es Alpukat is an Indonesian coffee drink that blends coffee and avocado for a tasty pick-me-up.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 avocado (ripe)
  • 1/3 cup of espresso brewed (or 1 cup standard coffee)
  • 1/2 cup condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups ice

Directions:

Blend all ingredients together in blender until smooth. Serve immediately.
