Baby on Surf Board: Summer Pregnancy Style
June 4, 2012
No group is probably more aware that summer is almost here than pregnant women. Carrying around an extra life and having uncontrollable hormonal fluctuations in the summer heat is less than appealing. No matter how high the air conditioner is on—and it is on, I swear—cooling off is a constant struggle.
While avoiding movement at speeds over a snails pace, the most important key to surviving summer is dressing appropriately. Wearing light-colored and light fabrics is crucial. Run from skin tight clothing and opt for flowy designs in breathable fabrics.
Read on for a few summer styling tips so you can not only beat the heat, but look good doing it momma!
At the Beach
Tunic | Striped Bag | Tote Bag | Maxi Dress | Sandals
One positive of being pregnant in the summer is that you’ll be outdoors more than you normally would, and staying active is good for both you and the baby. Keep cool when you’re at the beach or pool in a light tunic or jersey-knit dress—the looser the better if you don’t plan on stripping down to your bathing suit. Add a pair of sandals that are easy to take off when you need to walk on the sand or a slippery pool deck, and finish the outfit with a cute straw bag for your sunscreen, beach reads, and water bottle.
Running Errands
Shorts | Linen Shoes | Top | Leggings | Sandals
As much as you’d like to just curl up in bed and hibernate for nine months, things need to get done. So when you’re out and about at the grocery store or dropping the kids off at school, keep it comfortable. Pair loose-fitting, “boyfriend” shorts with a thin sweater or top. Slip-on shoes and your purse will finish off the outfit. Another go-to comfy look, is leggings and a flowy sleeveless top. Add a scarf—in case you need to take a trip down the frozen food aisle—and sturdy sandals for walking. You’re ready for a day on the go!
Lunch with the Girls
Clutch | Dress | Brown Wedges | Jeans | Blouse | Coral Wedges
Remember to treat yourself during your pregnancy and get together with the girls. Take a break from errands or the office and meet at a local restaurant to trade pregnancy horror stories. Dress up a nautical inspired knit dress with a colorful scarf and wedges. A colorblock clutch is a great way to mix two hot trends—stripes and colorblocking. Or, pair your favorite maternity jeans with a loose button-down, colorful heels, and fun sunglasses. Complete the ensemble with a crossbody bag and your girlfriends will be tossing compliments your way all afternoon.
An Evening Out
Black Heels | Dress | Top | Maternity Jeans
So you and the hubby have a dinner date scheduled, well done momma! Keep it simple in a statement-making ruched red dress. In the warm months, a clutch and heels is all you need to finish the look. Another option is to pair dark wash, jeans and a loose-fitting metallic top. Use your accessories to add punches of color. Give the popular colors, coral and mint, a try with a pair of shoes and adorable clutch. Now enjoy yourself!
Don’t let your baby bump keep you from trying new colors and styles this summer. Feel free to show some skin and have a little fun—between naps of course.
