Yes, ladies the rumors are all true.  The 80’s are officially back and big time.  Not content to just swath ourselves in neon bright colors for summer, fashion has gone full tilt with this fall’s 80’s Glam styling.  Think lots of leather, gold-capped and plated everything and a whole lot of black to get into this oldie-but-goodie trend.

I Wanna Rock

From the pages of Elle to Marie Claire magazine, and every celebrity in-between, the amount of leather being worn cannot be ignored.  Leather leggings, leather capped shoulders on shirts and piping down pants it all over the place. There is a saturation of black and studs. Gold chains mixed with deep jewel tones and pearls are draped everywhere.  It might look intimidating at first but this is a style that everyone can rock.

Using black as a backdrop is the easiest way to incorporate this look into your daily style. Think black leather leggings with a tailored white shirt.  Add a simple black jacket or sweater over top and play it up with rockin’ accessories like strands of pearls mixed with gold chains and a set of studded bracelets and you are set.  You can work it the same way with a little black dress or even a white one.  Throw on a pair of black booties and a metal studded envelope clutch for enhancement. Starting with black gives you a canvas to add colors like cobalt blue, emerald green and oxblood red to add slashes of today.

Since denim is big again this year (acid wash too!), work it into your weekend wear or casual day look by throwing on a denim jacket with spiked shoulders.  Mix it with a set of today’s oxford flats or booties and rolled boyfriend jeans with a V-neck t-shirt and you are ready to go.

Accessories Rule

Whether you are a rock god or queen of the glam, accessories are the most important part to achieving the 80s look.  True to its soul the 80s had a lot going on in the accessories department.  Dust off those Risky Business shades or invest in a new pair in classic black to give your aviators a break.  Roll up the sleeves on your denim jacket and pile on the leather bracelets because those are back too.  Remember that while it might “feel” old, everything has been updated for a fresh take.  Don’t pair Day-Glo earrings with your black and white outfit.  That really is from yesteryear; at least for this season. Keep it simple with gold or black enamel studs.  Use red plaids to punch up the stark backdrop of your outfit and add a slightly punk feel to it.  Remember that shoes and purses or a statement necklace are a great way to work in the color.
