The blanket scarf is no longer just the “it” item populating the blog pages of many fashion bloggers.  It has gone total mainstream and for one very good reason.  It is one of the most versatile trends for winter and it actually keeps you warm.  If you received a blanket scarf for holidays or have been eyeing one and haven’t pulled the trigger then get ready to rock it.  We’ve got just the tips and tricks to style this season’s beautiful and often plaid fashion statement.

Top Ties

  1. Triangle Wrap: The most common use of the blanket scarf is also one of the most simple to create. First, fold the scarf in half diagonally which creates the triangle. Make sure the triangle is in front. Wrap the sides back around your neck. Tuck the sides under the triangle. You can adjust it for my volume. Gorgeous!
  2. Simple Drape: A reverse of the triangle wrap this look keeps you toasty warm. Fold the scarf in half diagonally with the triangle part in the back. Place the sides around your shoulders. You are done and safe from the office freeze zone.

The following styles all start with this big scarf being in triangle form. To do this grab the scarf by one corner and let the rest of the scarf hang down.  Done!  Hold one end of the scarf in one and using the other hand slide it down the scarf. This lengthens it and primes it for the next look.

  1. Half-Tied: Hold the scarf with both hands in front of you. Wrap the scarf around your neck once. Both ends should be hanging in front. Tighten ends to tie. You can tighten or untighten, leave ends even or uneven. Whichever look you prefer.
  2. Turtleneck: Starting out with the ends wrapped around your neck once, pull on the ends to make them longer. Tie a knot into the ends and tuck the knot up underneath the triangle part of the scarf. You can now loosen the scarf at your neck to fit as you want. Fluff the scarf or separate the two corners to overlap and be visible.

Added Style

  1. Poncho Style: With the scarf folded into a long rectangle, drape it around your shoulders. Bunch it up at the top edge. Take one side around and tuck it in. Bring the second side around and tuck it firmly. Shape as necessary. The triangle should be in front.
  2. Belted: In rectangle form place the scarf over your shoulder letting the sides hanging down the front. Using a skinny or wide belt wrap it around your waist and over the scarf. Loosen the sides for comfort.
