Spring is on the horizon – what better time to cleanse and purify your home and your body.  Starting from the inside out, you can rev up sluggish winter digestion, flush your GI tract, prepare your body for lighter foods, detox and purify your blood. It doesn’t require that you drink special smoothies or take powders and supplements for days on end.
Simply eating certain foods with known properties of detoxing and rejuvenating is a great way to detox your system.

Start with these 10 foods (and of course limit or eliminate sugars, white flours, soda and junk foods)

Artichokes help stimulate bile production, which helps clear the system of inflammatory substances found in fatty founds and also helps us digest those fats.

Beets have powerful anti-inflammatory and anti fungal properties that help repair and regenerate the liver. Try adding beets to salads for a tasty and nutritional punch.

Blueberries have a wealth of benefits – whether you need to reduce chronic inflammation or prevent urinary tract infections or block toxins in the blood. Blueberries eaten on a daily basis are a huge health boost.

Broccoli is the powerhouse of the cruciferous vegetable family and is known to have antioxidant properties and possibly reduce the risks of cancers. On top of that, broccoli has fiber which helps us keep our digestive systems running smoother.

Grapefruit contains pectin fiber that binds to cholesterol and helps cleanse the blood. It also is another powerful intestinal and liver detoxifier.

Green tea is rich in antioxidants and helps keep you hydrated. Drinking tea can also boost metabolism, especially if it is caffeinated.

Lemon has antioxidant properties and is alkalizing for the body. Many people start the day with a glass of warm water with fresh lemon squeezed in it.

Milk thistle is a well-known supplement supposed to help the liver aid in detoxification of the body. Although some studies have shown questionable results, many people turn to milk thistle when cleansing.

Onions and garlic both have antibacterial and immune boosting properties. They help the liver produce glutathione, which is essential for liver detox.

Yogurt is chock full of probiotics helping our digestive tracts maintain the right intestinal flora, while it aids digestion and pumps up the immune system as a whole.

There are many foods that help our bodies cleanse and stay as healthy as possible. Choosing fresh, not processed foods, is one of the best decisions you can make this spring to detox your body on a daily basis.
