With the changing economy due to COVID-19, many people are reimagining how they are earning their paycheck. So, whether you have been forced to look for other ideas or you are just trying to earn a little bit more money, here are a few simple ideas.

Direct Sales

You probably remember your mom going to Tupperware parties or flipping through an Avon catalog. These are examples of direct sales companies. These reps or representatives sell products and earn a commission based on what they sell. There are many more options available today than there were years ago. Companies range from nail polish strips and makeup to health supplements and clothes.

Call Center

Many large businesses have employees that work at home answering phone calls for them. These call center workers generally need a special headset that allows them to be queued into the phone system to receive phone calls. While you generally need to commit to a specific block of time to be available, it can work for those that don’t have a lot of outside obligations. Here is a good place to start.

Delivery Services

If you have reliable transportation, you might want to consider being a delivery driver. These jobs range from InstaCart shoppers that will do grocery shopping for others to Uber drivers that act as self-employed taxi drivers. It is important that you have a car that’s in good driving condition. And, you will want to make sure that you have car insurance and actually enjoy driving.

Pet Sitting

If you love animals pet sitting is a wonderful way to earn a little bit of extra money. The services you offer are entirely up to you. But, in most cases, pet sitters will stop by to feed, walk, and spend time with pets while their owners are on vacation. Some sitters will stay in the home while the owner is gone. And in other cases, people offer only dog walking services for those that can’t get home during the day to walk their dogs. If this sounds like fun for you, hang up signs around your community or post on a service like NextDoor.

Teach English

If you have experience teaching or simply think that this sounds like an interesting job, you might want to try teaching English online. There are many virtual teaching jobs in other countries that want to have a native English speaker teach this language to students and adults. You will need to have good computer equipment with camera and microphone capabilities so you can talk to people while teaching virtually. Here are a few resources you can start with to see if this works for you.
