With everything that needs to be done in a day, I am always on the hunt for ways to save time. If I can cut a few minutes out of my daily routine, that means that I have a few extra minutes for me time. That may mean an extra few minutes to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or a few minutes in the evening to sneak away for a bubble bath. Either way, time-saving routines are high on my list.

One of the easiest ways to save time is by automating daily tasks. That may mean putting dinner in the slow cooker so you can forget about it all day. It may mean purchasing an all in one washer and dryer to save time taking your clothes out of the washer and putting them into the dryer. It might mean using your smart home technology to save time.

I’m a huge fan of the Amazon Echo that allows me to use Alexa to save time. My family uses it to control our lighting, tell us the weather outside, and answer questions like how many feet are in a meter. But, did you know that you can also use it to save time?

With Alexa, you can create routines that run automatically. One of my favorite routines is to turn off the lights at sunrise and turn on the lights at sunset. I cannot tell you how helpful it is to not have to worry about turning lights off and on. You can also create the same type of routine to turn the furnace down at night before bed and up again before you wake up.

One of my favorite things to do with Alexa is to create lists. I’m a huge list maker. If I do not write things down, I forget them! I can use Alexa to create a variety of shopping lists and then add items to them. Then, I can access that list on my app when I’m out. You can also use Alexa to create a to-do list like chores you need to do around the house.

Depending on the technology you have around your home, you can use Alexa to do any number of things for you—from turning on your Keurig to reading your emails or preheating your oven. Many of these commands require other types of smart home technology. It’s best to start small and then add things as you find they save you time.
