Are you looking for a great family-friendly addition to your holiday film collection?  If so, you may be in luck!  On November 5, 2013, Rise of the Guardians – Holiday Edition was released on DVD and Blu-ray and it comes with an adorable marching elf!  During the holidays, it’s the little extras that count!

The animated film is perfect for a wintry afternoon for the entire family.  The magical plot surrounds Santa Claus, Jack Frost, the Tooth Fairy, Sandman and the Easter Bunny, who must join forces against the evil Pitch Black who has threatened to take over the world.  The unbeatable group of our beloved heroes set out to protect the hopes and dreams of children around the world in a film that will keep you both entertained and laughing.

Rise of the Guardians features the voices of Chris Pine (Star TrekThis Means War), Alec Baldwin (30 Rock, The Departed, The Hunt for Red October), Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, Sherlock Holmes),  Isla Fisher (The Great GatsbyNow You See Me), Hugh Jackman (Les MiserablesPrisonersWolverine), Dakota Goyo (Real Steel), Khamani Griffin (Daddy Daycare) and Kamil McFadden (House of PayneGrown Ups 2).

Described as a “sort of Avengers for the elementary school set” by Rotten Tomatoes, Rise of the Guardians was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film and won the Hollywood Animation Award at the 16th Annual Hollywood Film Festival.  It also earned the new Vanity Fair International Award for Cinematic Excellence.

The holiday edition would make a great gift or stocking stuffer since kids (and adults!) will love the adorable wind-up marching elf toy (although, supplies are limited!).  The DVD set, which retails for about $14.99, also features an hour of new bonus content, including a multi-chapter, behind-the-scenes look at the making of the epic and merry elf greetings.

If you purchase the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy pack with UltraViolet (retails for about $19.99), you will also receive exclusive bonus features such as interactive games, as well as a wealth of behind-the-scenes featurettes, commentary and more.

At just 97 minutes, it’s the perfect length of time to sit after your holiday meal and laugh with the family.  If you’re concerned about younger viewers, the film is rated PG for some mildly scary action but, for the most part, it’s really very tame.  Overall, it’s a film that most of the family can watch and enjoy together.
