Spring break is almost here, which means summer vacation planning is on the horizon. Kids will be home and there are so many places to visit and trips to take! Unfortunately, costs are almost always a concern. Making small changes today can add up and help you save extra cash in time for summer (and beyond).

Cut the Cable Cord

Many people have switched from cable to streaming live TV. If you are tired of paying high cable bills, this can be a great way to save money monthly. There are several choices, most of which offer one to two weeks free to try their service. Think about the channels you really watch and check if they are on streaming services like Hulu with Live TV, DirecTV Now, Sling or others. Take a few hours and research options. Even if you aren’t considering changing for any reason, a call to your cable company can sometimes cut your bill if you let them know you are considering leaving.

Use Coupons

Couponing doesn’t have to take hours. Many people get a free weekly local newspaper with coupons. Do you toss it aside or spend a little time cutting them out? With stores sometimes offering double coupons, you have the potential to save more than a few bucks a week and this can add up! Many stores offer discounts via their online apps, so if you don’t want to break out the scissors, consider downloading the virtual coupons.

Download Cash Back Apps

Combine this method with coupons and you can save double! While cash back apps often require that you buy certain products, if you are going to buy them anyway, it’s worth it. The few minutes scanning or taking a picture of a receipt can add up too. You have the potential to earn hundreds of dollars that can be used as Paypal cash or Amazon gift cards.

Clean Out Your Storage

With many ways to sell online (Facebook, Craigslist, OfferUp) you can pocket a few hundred dollars toward a vacation by getting rid of things you don’t need or use anymore. Don’t want to be bothered selling online? A yard sale at your house is just as good, if not better.

Lower Your Cell Phone Plan

With a competitors ad in hand, a call to your cell phone provider could get you a better plan. Or if the change in plans is significant enough, consider making the switch, especially if they will pay off your remaining plan. Check your current account for hidden fees and make sure you only pay for the data you use. Upgrade only when there are specials. There are many ways to save so make sure you know what you are paying for and it’s the right plan for you and your family.

Combining all of these can save you quite a bunch each month. Start that savings envelope now and have some extra money for summer fun!
