January 8, 2021

It’s the first celebrity mom post of 2021! How’s everyone feeling? Ready to turn things around in the new year? It felt like a bomb was dropped on us every day of 2020, but we’re wiser and stronger now, aren’t we? We’ve learned to expect the unexpected, and we will ride this wave together! In the meantime, indulge in a little self-care and spare a few moments to catch up on the latest!

Meghan McCain Returns from Maternity Leave

After taking time away, Meghan McCain has returned as a co-host on The View. The first-time mother and husband, Ben Domenech, welcomed their daughter Liberty Sage on September 28, 2020 and she couldn’t wait to share some adorable photos with viewers.

“Motherhood’s insane,” McCain said on Monday’s episode. “After I gave birth, I was like, ‘Women do this. This is what we do, we give birth like this.’ Being with a newborn baby has been surprising to me because motherhood, I think as everyone knows, was not a simple journey for me. Being with her is like the way I’ve heard described taking ecstasy. It’s just amazing.”

“I’ve been in this bubble of love,” she continued. “She’s just perfect, and it feels like having a little piece of my dad back.” On social media back in October, McCain also wrote: “Motherhood is euphoria. All of the cliches have come true and exceeded well beyond my wildest expectations ~ it is hands down the best thing I have ever done in my entire life and I am completely in awe of our daughter.”

Juggling motherhood and a career can be really hard, but can be truly fulfilling. We wish nothing but the best for Meghan McCain and her family!

Emily Maynard’s Pregnancy Scare

While pregnancy can definitely be an exciting time, it’s also stressful. Many expectant mothers worry about complications, and when something happens (especially during a pandemic), it can be scary. The Bachelorette alum, Emily Maynard, recently took to social media to reflect on some of the challenges she faced during her most recent pregnancy.

In an Instagram Story, Maynard shared an image from September 2020 of her lying down and wearing an eye patch. The caption read: “Got Bells Palsy and had to wear a patch.” The condition occurs when a nerve in the face becomes inflamed or swollen and can cause drooping of the eyelid or corner of the mouth, paralysis, twitching, and muscle weakness.

This isn’t the first time Maynard has battled the condition, either! In her 2016 memoir, I Said Yes: My Story of Heartbreak, Redemption and True Love, she revealed that she was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy during her junior year of high school.

Fortunately, she shared “that with corticosteroid medication, the use of an eye patch at night so I could sleep, and good old-fashioned time, I would make a full recovery.” Her fifth child (the fourth with husband, Tyler Johnson), Magnolia Belle, was born in October.

Anne Hathaway Talks “Locked Down”

In the upcoming film, Locked Down, Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor play Linda and Paxton, “a couple on the brink of separation who are forced to continue to live together due to a COVID-19 mandatory lockdown. With a lot of wine and their shared love of poetry, Linda and Paxton do their best to cope with the difficult situation.”

“Linda has been carrying around so much tension for so long,” Hathaway explains. “This film is partially about how the chaos of lockdown allows her to release that tension, let go of whatever BS was getting her through the day and how she gets all the way honest about what authenticity and freedom mean to her. She is messy and a little nuts and I liked that.”

So, what was it like filming this movie during the actual pandemic?

“The sheer act of making it, of doing something so collaborative and audacious made us all very focused and open — and strangely free,” she says. “Like the odds were so against us anyway that it made me want to lean into the exhilaration and take risks with my performance. It was scary taking my mask off every day, and so I really appreciated how committed the crew was to keeping their masks on — even when we were shooting in hot rooms and they were carrying heavy camera and lighting equipment they were always, always masked. Their professionalism helped keep me safe, and I was and am incredibly grateful to them.”

Locked Down is available to stream on HBO Max starting January 14.
