Fifty Shades Darker on Blu-ray & DVD

Ten years have passed since my husband and I met. I can’t say the relationship has gone stale — with three children, there’s not enough “alone time” to get to that point! However, with all the exhaustion that jobs and those kids bring, our struggle is finding the energy to, shall we say, “reconnect” as often as we’d like. Sometimes you need a little something to motivate a mood to then inspire action!
Last February, I documented how my husband and I were on board with finding out just what Fifty Shades Darker had to offer – was the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele heat transferable? The sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey promises “no rules, no punishments, no secrets”—and that means more mainstream nookie…right? Right. Ish.
Darker begins with Christian promising to give up all the pervy bondage and whipping stuff if Anastasia will take him back. She does, but that doesn’t mean the film becomes Fifty Shades of Missionary Style. Instead, Ana takes charge, exploring ways to be sexually experimental within the context of a monogamous relationship.
Steamy? You betcha. Not as sexy? Watching these two rabbits while sitting in a room full of people. For me, the theater experience felt awkward and uncomfortable. Now, problem solved: the worldwide phenomenon returns on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD so you can stay in and slip into something darker. Home viewing promises even more spice with an all new unrated edition featuring scenes not seen in theatres. Yowza.

The truth is that while Fifty Shades Darker is packaged up as a sexcapade, it’s actually a total chick flick. The storyline follows an empowered young career woman who tames the billionaire playboy and features lots of fantasy fulfillment only our girlfriends will appreciate, like:
- A masquerade ball
- A rack of designer dresses and expensive lingerie for her choosing (for free!)
- Two hot guys and a cute guy friend who are super into her
- Supportive female coworkers
- Older male bosses who instantly recognize her business acumen and potential
- Boyfriend who can fly a helicopter, buy her company, and lift his entire body up with his fingers.
The list goes on and on, down to the fact that now the sex is all for Ana, it’s all on her terms, and always in fabulous shoes.
But, it’s the sexy fun time and, actually , the hope that watching the film will lead to real-life sexy fun time that makes the men in our lives totally game to watch Fifty Shades Darker with us. My husband volunteered that he would watch the DVD with me. Tonight. His words. Now, if only the DVD was packaged with a babysitter!
