Somehow, two of the biggest stars in the world managed to hide that they got married last weekend! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are finally, officially, husband and wife after embarking on quite the journey together.
Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston when he was cast opposite Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith but he chose to end his marriage and begin a relationship with his co-star. There was no shortage of drama or scandal, of course, but, after nine years, the pair are still going strong.
According to reports, they were married in France last Saturday at Chateau Miraval in the village of Correns. The sprawling estate is where they first settled in 2008 and, after extensive renovations, the wine-growing property boasts 35 rooms in the main house and an ancient chapel. Jolie’s late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, was French so it’s no surprise that they chose this location.
Of course, their six children – Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and 6-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne – were included in the celebrations. After being engaged for two years, Jolie explained in May: “we’re just waiting for it to be the right time with the kids, with work, when it feels right. We talk about it occasionally, and the kids talk about it with us which is verging on hysterical, how kids envision a wedding. They will in a way be the wedding planners. It’s going to be Disney or paintball – one or the other! We’ve got a lot of different personalities in the house. They’ve got some strong opinions. It will be fun. That’s the important thing. When we do it, it will feel like a great day for our family.”
It’s been a rough year for the Jolie-Pitt clan so, undoubtedly, it was nice to have a reason to celebrate. Last year, Jolie underwent a preventative double mastectomy. They’ve both publicly spoken about how the experience has brought their family closer.
Despite their busy schedules (he’s been working on WWII film, Fury, while she’s been directing another WWII flick, Unbroken), the couple have managed to keep the romance alive by writing each other handwritten love letters. They will next appear together in By the Sea, their first on-screen pairing since Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The filming is set to take place in Malta so, hopefully, they can make it a working honeymoon! Fame has its advantages!
Congratulations to the happy couple and the entire Jolie-Pitt family!
