The Perfect Bedtime Story #DreamAnimals
November 22, 2013
I love a good bedtime story. There’s something very heartwarming about laying on your stomach on the floor or in bed with your toddler, reading aloud the words, and turning the pages to view beautiful artwork.
Books can transport you. Take this opening line, for instance:
You only have to close your eyes, and when you snuggle in, you’ll be carried to your dream tonight, on wing or paw or fin.
Thus begins DREAM ANIMALS: A Bedtime Journey, recently released by Random House Children’s Books. The book is an enchanting voyage to a world that begins when a child’s day comes to an end. When a boy falls asleep, a bear—perhaps his own teddy bear—carries him to a dream of a magical kitchen, where he plays chef to Humpty Dumpy, a robot, and a friendly ogre. A girl snuggles with a stuffed narwhal and soon she parties with mermaids. Emily Winfield Martin (well known for her store on Etsy, The Black Apple Shop) convinces children to close their eyes and discover who their dream animal might be—and what dream it might take them to. With a perfect nighttime rhyme and gorgeous illustrations, this book is irresistible.
“[Martin’s] pictures . . . will take firm grip of readers’ imaginations as they make their own ways to dreamland.”—Publishers Weekly
“A visually elegant and textually cadenced bedtime treat.”—Kirkus Reviews
