It’s beginning to look a lot like … whatever this is! It may not feel much like the holidays, but we’re making the best of it—right? Are you all caught up on the latest news? Here are some stories about our favorite celebrity moms!

Dr. Jill Biden Responds

Last week, the Wall Street Journal published a column by Joseph Epstein, where the author referred to Dr. Jill Biden as “Madame First Lady—Mrs. Biden— Jill—kiddo” as he questioned her choice to refer to herself as “doctor” because she has a doctorate in education and not medicine.

“Any chance you might drop the ‘Dr.’ before your name?” Epstein wrote. “‘Dr. Jill Biden’ sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic. Your degree is, I believe, an Ed.D., a doctor of education, earned at the University of Delaware through a dissertation with the unpromising title ‘Student Retention at the Community College Level: Meeting Students’ Needs.’ A wise man once said that no one should call himself ‘Dr.’ unless he has delivered a child. Think about it, Dr. Jill, and forthwith drop the doc.”

Of course, the piece was met with major backlash with many deeming it “sexist” before throwing support behind Dr. Biden. The Journal has defended the piece, calling it a “fair comment,” and added, “… these pages aren’t going to stop publishing provocative essays merely because they offend the new administration or the political censors in the media and academe. And since it’s a time to heal, we’ll give the Biden crowd a mulligan for their attacks on us.”

On Sunday night, Dr. Biden addressed the op-ed by tweeting, “Together, we will build a world where the accomplishments of our daughters will be celebrated, rather than diminished.” Prior to her husband, president-elect Joe Biden, winning, she made it clear that she planned to continue teaching after they moved into the White House.

At the time, Dr. Biden said, “It’s important, and I want people to value teachers and know their contributions and lift up their profession.” Very true, especially after the year we’ve all had.

Cher Talks Aging

Some people age gracefully, but Cher admitted that she’d “turn back time” if she could. “I hate it. What, I’m going to say I like it? No, I don’t. Any woman who is honest will say it’s not as much fun,” Cher said. “When I was working on the road we used to work two shows a night and then go out dancing all night long.”

These days, though, the 74-year-old mother of two says “It’s like we’ve got to rest because you’ve got another night…Also, I don’t like going out now because everybody’s got a camera and it’s not safe. People rush you, and you don’t know if they’re going to kill you or take your picture. Either way, I don’t like it.”

While she’s open about having had cosmetic surgery to retain her youthful appearance, she says she also puts in the effort to stay on top of her game. “You don’t pay bucks to stand and look at someone. They’ve got to deliver something…And I’ve worked my whole life to keep my strength in my body. There are 20-year-old girls who can’t do what I do.” She also says her voice has never sounded better!

With her Las Vegas residency called off due to the pandemic, Cher has been busy recording new music, leading elephant rescues, and participating in social and political activism. Most of us can only hope to have that much energy in our 70s!

“Mom Squad” Brings Cheer

This has been an incredibly difficult year, which is why it’s so important for us to give back during the holiday season. A “mom squad” of Jennifer Garner, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jessica Alba teamed up to do just that. The trio was on-site to help distribute supplies and gifts to families in need at a drive-thru event hosted by Baby2Baby.

Later that day, Alba took to Instagram to share her thoughts. “The turnout was beyond overwhelming,” Alba wrote. “We distributed @honest diapers, wipes + shampoo/body wash, warm jackets, blankets, food, special holiday gifts, toys and so much more to help make the holidays a little brighter for deserving families.”

She may not have been pictured, but another celebrity mom supported a Baby2Baby charity event—Meghan Markle. About a month after suffering a miscarriage, Meghan, who was joined by husband, Prince Harry, distributed school supplies, books, backpacks, clothing, food, hygiene items, and more.
