Halloween is just a couple of weeks away, which means it’s time to round up some scary movies for the big night. Once the trick-or-treaters stop ringing the doorbell, you can pop some popcorn, grab a handful of leftover candy and settle in on the couch for an evening of hiding your face under the covers from suspense!

Here are some recent and upcoming DVD/Blu-ray releases to help you get into the Halloween spirit!

World War Z

Brad Pitt stars in this intelligent and unique film about life in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Fans of zombie flicks and shows such as The Walking Dead will appreciate the fresh take on this familiar foe. Despite the potentially gory subject matter, the director showed immense restraint which resulted in a decidedly more thought-provoking plot – September 17, 2013.

This is the End

This crazy movie features an all-star cast (all playing themselves!) that brings true comedy to even the most serious of topics. While at a housewarming party at James Franco’s new house, celebrities, including Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Anderson, find themselves in a situation so perilous that they begin to believe that the world is ending – October 1, 2013.

The Purge

How terrifying would it be if, for one night a year, everyone was allowed to go out and commit whatever crimes they wanted to without fear of punishment? That’s the exact question The Purge seeks to answer. In this film, James Sandin (Ethan Hawke) is a father who has done all that he can to protect his family during the 12-hour period when no hospitals or police will intervene to help citizens. When an intruder breaks into his gated community, Sandin and his family must decide to stick with their principles or participate in the violent annual ritual – October 8, 2013.

The Conjuring

Ready to be truly creeped out? The Conjuring is based on the true-life events of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga). The world-renowned paranormal investigators, who thought they’d seen just about everything, end up facing the most horrifying case of their lives when they go to help a family at a secluded farmhouse – October 22, 2013.

Monster’s University

Want to see some monsters without giving yourself (or your kids) nightmares?  Check out Monster’s University. The plot unfolds at university back when Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan first met. Believe it or not, they hated each other and this great animated film shows us exactly how Mike and Sully became the best of friends – October 29, 2013.
