We’ve already seen the Golden Globes and SAG Awards – but now it’s time to turn our attention to the biggest music and movie award shows of the year. It really has been a stellar year for entertainment and the competition is fierce among the celebs.

The Grammy Awards will air on February 10, 2013 on CBS and an incredible lineup of performers has already been announced. Huge stars are set to take the stage including Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Ed Sheeran & Elton John, Frank Ocean, fun., Jack White, Justin Timberlake, the Lumineers, the Black Keys, Maroon 5 & Alicia Keys, Miranda Lambert, Mumford & Sons, Rihanna and Taylor Swift.

With Swift blowing up the charts with “We Are Never Getting Back Together” and “Trouble” from her recent Red album, it’s going to be interesting to see how she fares against Gotye (“Somebody I Used to Know”) and fun. (“We Are Young”) in the Record of the Year category.

It would be a pretty big shock if Carly Rae Jepsen didn’t walk away with the Song of the Year prize for “Call Me Maybe” but, again, there has been some really great music released this year.

One person who is noticeably absent is Justin Bieber who, many felt, had released a more mature album with Believe. His track “Boyfriend” definitely showcased a more grown-up side of the Canadian sensation but it just wasn’t enough to stack up against the likes of Frank Ocean and Jack White.

Meanwhile, the Academy Awards (Oscars) will air on February 24, 2013 on ABC and, while there are many films and actors worthy of praise, two motion pictures seem to be vying for the top spot.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards often predict Oscar winners and many were left stunned when Ben Affleck’s Argo won the top prize, the Producers Guild of America Award over Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. Other notable films include Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, Amour, Life of Pi, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Silver Linings Playbook and Django Unchained.

The Best Actress race is being led by Jennifer Lawrence, who was previously known as “that girl in the Hunger Games.” The rising star quickly establishing herself as Hollywood’s “it” girl after being recognized for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

Daniel Day-Lewis still seems to be the forerunner for the Best Actor award despite the fact that the certainty of a win for Lincoln as Best Picture is now in question.

While the performance lineup isn’t quite as impressive as the Grammy Awards, you will be seeing Norah Jones, Adele and the legendary Barbra Streisand hit the stage.
