Learning how to infuse water will ensure that you have a refreshing summer drink that is both healthy and delicious. Many of the fruit flavored beverages that you find in the stores today are sweetened with artificial sweeteners and have added artificial flavors.  Those aren’t healthy choices for me but I missed the taste of fruit flavored waters when I gave them up. Once I learned how to infuse water myself, the problem was solved.

Drinking water is one of the most beneficial things that you can do for your body. Water helps regulate your body temperature, protect  your vital organs, and even improve your hair and skin. I’ll admit that I don’t really like the taste of plain water. It is much easier for me drink eight glasses of water a day when the water is fruit flavored.  You can easily infuse water with fresh fruits or vegetables for a delicious change from plain water.

What you choose to infuse your water with will depend on your tastes and how you’re feeling at the time.

  • * Feeling bloated? Try cucumber and lemon to get rid of bloating.
  • * Feeling stressed? Add a bit of sage to your water.  Sage is often used in aromatherapy to help with relaxation. I prefer sage with blueberries, raspberries or strawberries.
  • * Worried about aging? Try adding fruits that are high in antioxidant properties like pomegranates.
  • * Trying to burn fat? Try adding tangerines.

It’s very simple to infuse your water.  All you need to do is fill a large glass jar or glass pitcher with cold water, add cut up fruits, vegetables or herbs and allow it to sit in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours – or overnight for more flavor. Do not allow it to sit on the counter to infuse as it may promote the growth of bacteria.

You can create an entire jug or pitcher of infused water and store it in the refrigerator or you can create individual glasses of infused water so that everyone can enjoy their own favorite flavors.  I really enjoy the combination of fresh strawberries and slices of cucumber.  My daughter like mint and tangerines.  Make as many different glasses as you like at a time and enjoy different flavors.  Take them on the go in a reusable water bottle to avoid the temptation of buying soda or other unhealthy beverages while you are on the go.

Have you ever tried infused water? What’s your favorite flavor combination?
