Book lists are always tricky since everyone has their unique preferences, especially when it comes to summer reading. Some people try to work on finishing up the classics while others reserve the whimsical time for romance novels. Still, sometimes it helps to have some direction. Here are a few books to consider while planning for warm-weather reading.

Go Set a Watchman (Harper Lee) – The bestselling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, has published another book. This newly discovered novel, which is considered the earliest known of Harper’s work, includes many of the beloved characters from Mockingbird but is set twenty years later. We are given a glimpse of their lives during the 1950s, a time of major transition in America. This is a must-read for fans of the first novel.

Finders Keepers (Stephen King) – The master of the horror genre is back with a new intensely suspenseful novel. In a plot that sounds somewhat reminiscent of King’s best-selling work, Misery, a reader gets a little too carried away obsessing over a reclusive writer. The main characters include the unlikely trio of heroes first introduced in Mr. Mercedes.

It’s a Long Story: My Life (Willie Nelson) – There are few people in the industry right now who can compete with the success and longevity of Willie Nelson. This autobiography, which has been heralded for being fearless in its honesty, tells the story of Nelson’s life from his number beginnings in Texas to the full and eccentric life he lives today.

The Rumor (Elin Hilderbrand) – With a deadline looming and mounting bills, Nantucket writer, Madeline King, really can’t afford to be having writer’s block. Things get even more complicated when Madeline’s best friend, Grace, enlists the help of a ruggedly handsome landscaper. What happens next ends up creating enough gossip to spread through the island.

I Take You (Eliza Kennedy) – As she prepares for her wedding to the perfect man, Lily is only sure of one thing – she’s not ready to be a model wife. Instead, the New Yorker is content to be a lawyer by day and party girl by night. When her future mother-in-law threatens to expose her cheating ways, she must decide if she can give up her promiscuous lifestyle in favor of monogamous love.

Beach Town (Mary Kay Andrews) – There’s a lot on the line for disgraced location scout, Greer Hennessy. If she has any chance of saving her career, she must find an amazing untouched beach for a big-budget movie. It seems like an idyllic spot in Florida will be perfect until she faces off against environmentalist mayor, Eben Thinadeaux. Will their chemistry help or hurt Greer’s chances of securing the location?

What are you planning to read this summer? Will you be reading serious books, romance novels of a mix of them both and everything in between?
