A top loading washing machine without agitator is a washer that doesn’t have a pole in the middle of the tub that moves the clothes around during the wash cycle. Instead, these washers use a plate or discs at the bottom of the tub that rotate to clean your clothes.
20 Best Top Loading Washing Machines Without Agitator
1. LG WT7305CV 4.8 Cu ft Top Load Washer
This LG high efficiency washer uses far less water and energy than a conventional washer for savings that add up with each load.SlamProof Glass Lid.
Keeps even big loads in balance to reduce washer noise and vibration.SpeedWash Cycle.
SpeedWash Cycle gets small loads clean and refreshed in just 15 minutes.
LG took everything you love about the traditional top load agitator washer and kicked it up a notch, with fast, more thorough cleaning and smart conveniences that saves time and simplifies laundry day.
The agitator’s four-way wash action combines with exclusive LG TurboWash3D technology to give clothes a complete clean in 37 minutes. Plus, with the ThinQ app and ThinQ Care, you can start and stop the washer or check remaining cycle time from anywhere—and get preventative maintenance tips and alerts to keep your washer running at its best.
With Smart Pairing, the washer can even tell the dryer to select a compatible drying cycle, making it the ultimate laundry hack. Who says you can’t improve on a classic? *Based on independent testing in normal cycle with TurboWash Option, 8 lb.
After researching decided on this washer for its features and large capacity. Once it was delivered and level I had to test it out. Put a light load in and when it got to the spin cycle it shook and walked all over the laundry room.
I researched as to possible causes and thought it could be the flooring as our laundry is on the main level. Bought a 1 inch shock pad and put in a light load, all was fine, so I thought. Anything other than a small load the washer would shake and walk all over, not a happy camper.
While reviewing this washer I recall reading that this waher has done this in other reviews. Called Lowes and they said they would replace the washer. Had it swapped out and put it to the test right away.
Glad I had the washer swapped out instead of returning the set. I put this washer through the ringer. I knew it could handle a light load without shaking and walking so I put it through multiple large and extra large loads and it never shook or walked.
Love the fact that we can fill up the detergent and fabric softner and it dipences the correct amount depending on the load size. I bought this washer for its large capacity and it handled our comforter, no problem.
We’ve had this washer for a couple of months now and haven’t had any issues. I believe the first unit was defective due to the fact that when they swapped out the unit we found a spring lying under the unit.
I believe it was one of the tub springs, hence the unit shaking and walking.
I am very disappointed with this washer. The normal setting is completely useless it does not clean clothes at all and there are lots of dry spots after the full cycle is done. You pretty much have to put it to the deep wash setting to get any amount of water into the washing machine.
I am currently watching a load that I just put in for a soak, it is soaking for a long time and there are tons of dry spots on my laundry specifically a stain I wanted to be in the water to soak. I am so frustrated and really wish I could get my money back for this I’m not sure who designed it, but the agitator does not pull the clothes down.
It starts too then it reverses and pushes them right back up. The price of this machine is not justified. I had an old washing machine that I bought used that worked great for over 10 years this one brand new barely washes clothes.
I don’t write reviews very often but I felt it necessary as public awareness. I feel like I’ve been robbed this machine is not worth the money it’s so disappointing and I really wish I would have spent my money elsewhere.
With inflation prices going the way they are I could have got a used machine and had more money to pay my bills and provide for my family, instead LG got a big chunk of change and provided something that looks like a clothes washer but acts like a bucket of water.
We mainly bought this model because it matched the dryer we bought less than a year ago. I am glad we got the one with the agitator but it does not move the items in the washer as much as I would like unless I add extra water.
Having the option for “deep wash” is a huge selling point to me. There are some items I really want covered with water to feel like they are clean. I like using liquid fabric softener so I like the dispenser that water runs through so I don’t have blue blotches on my clothing when done with the wash.
I like it being diluted before it hits my clothing. The biggest shock when we got this washer was that the door locked when the machine started. I felt out of control like I could not check something in the wash or add another item or more detergent if I wanted.
My friend told me I needed to read all the directions and that I would find my answer to open the door mid wash. I must not have read well enough because I didn’t find that. I decided to just try what her instructions said and it worked.
I touched the “Hold to Start” button which you can also “Hold to Stop” and the door unlocked so I could open the lid. There is a down side to opening the door mid wash. I thought it would mean that I could open the door and soak my clothes an extra amount of time, but NOPE, when I tried that it showed me who was the boss and drained all the water and detergent out so I had to start over.
I will not try that again and will just be happy that I can unlock the door and add the items I want. I love the soft close on the lid. I also like the clear lid. It helps me understand what each different kind of load does.
I would be crazy with a locked lid if I didn’t understand what was going on inside. It would be particularly hard if I didn’t understand that it goes around during the sensing phase with no water. I think sensing means it is figuring out how many items are in the load so it can add water accordingly.
I love the large drum. I am able to wash more rugs at the same time, like rugs from two bathrooms instead of just one. The same with sheets, today I washed sheets from 1 king and one twin with plenty of room.
I did decide to dry the two sets separately however. I am happy with my purchase. My advice is to make sure you don’t complain until you understand what you are doing. I still have new things to learn but I have made a lot of progress so far.
Move mountains of laundry with extra-large 4. 2 cu. ft. capacity. For more water when you want it, choose the Deep Water Wash option to fill the wash basket with a maximum water level. Available on any cycle, the extra water works with the PowerWash agitator to effectively break up and rinse away crusted-on messes.
Fight everyday stubborn stains with the Auto Sensing option, which adjusts the water level for each load to provide efficient, concentrated cleaning.
We owned a Maytag Bravos XL for many years which I LOVED – it finally quit working after I let a neighbor use it because her machine quit mid cycle while washing a heavy blanket and she needed to finish a spin cycle.
Unfortunately for me, her heavy blanket subsequently ruined my Bravos XL. I purchase this Maytag as a replacement b/c it was cheaper but still Maytag. That was a bad idea. This unit is NOISY. It makes a loud clicking noise when analyzing the load size/weight when you first start it, it makes another loud click when it unlocks at the end of the cycle, and it’s even loud when the water is dispensing somehow.
It’s noisy. But that’s not really the main reason I gave this a 1 star review. The Machine DOES NOT CLEAN ANYTHING! Our clothes come out with random spots on certain shirts that have to be rewashed. Stains do NOT come out at all without pretreating them.
and in my previous Maytag this was not an issue. Even our white towels are NO LONGER WHITE. Literally, any little stain just stays on the towels. We have used white towels for 20 years without this issue and using 3 other machines, but this machine is truly crap.
Our clothes and towels do smell clean, but they don’t LOOK clean. Our sheets and towels are dingy. this is my final straw and the reason I am buying a new washing machine. It’s embarrassing how they just keep getting worse.
I read someone else’s review stating that the hot/cold function does not work well and I can concur with that also. I thought maybe it was just our connections because we bought this when we moved into a new house, but apparently it’s just another fault with this machine.
I do recommend the Maytag Bravos XL if you are a hardcore Maytag fan, but NOT this particular unit!.
We have named our washer The Sloth. Big, slow and unimpressive. Don’t let that great big tub fool you into thinking it can handle large loads. You can fill it up with clothes but they won’t get clean.
The water level won’t rise above about 40% of the tub no matter what setting you use. The clothes on top will go through the entire wash cycle never getting wet, or clean. The “agitator”, doesn’t. The water barely moves.
We have to put the machine on Power Wash with Deep cycle and load it light to get all the clothes clean. This machine uses half the water of old style machines and can only clean half a load. We have to run two loads to accomplish what our machine could do in a single load.
There’s efficiency for you. Unfortunately this appears to be the common mode of operation for all new washers. They call them high efficiency, but they aren’t. If I thought I could find another washer without these issues I would return The Sloth to Best Buy as an overmarketed, poorly engineered excuse of a washer.
It probably meets government regulations, but it fails to perform its intended function.
Powerful Cleaning Give your laundry the care and washing it needs and deserves with this GE washer. Deep Fill lets you control and customize of your water levels with the touch of a button for maximum cleaning performance.
The Deep Clean cycle offers 67% more cleaning power, so you can knock out tough stains. A fast 700 rpm spin speed efficiently removes water and minimizes drying time.
The good: You are able to select water level (Low, Medium, High, Max) although some reviews say that each of these levels depends on how much clothes you have in the machine. I always fill it empty to see how much water is in there.
for normal loads, I use Medium with Deep Fill. (If I use High without Deep fill, there is too much water–not enough friction to clean clothes) There’s a comparable Maytag machine for sale now, and according to the reviews, you can’t open the lid to see how much water is being used.
The Bad: VERY STRANGE settings. For example, I want a warm temperature for colored clothes, for example, 80 degrees F. In order to get this temp. I fill it on HOT for 5 minutes, then switch to WARM. But I have to press Start/Pause twice, otherwise it doesn’t switch.
If I close the lid, after closing, every time it pours about 15 seconds of cold water. (This is stupid) Then it switches to the setting that I chose. Other Stupid Programming Things: 1. If you change water temperature during filling, sometimes it changes, and sometimes it doesn’t.
I think/hope it will be consistent if I press e Start/Pause twice when I change temperature. Why would I want to do this? Because “WARM ” is not really warm. It is 50 or 60 degrees F. The manual says that modern detergents are designed to wash in cold water.
Well, that’s a lie. I have tried it. It doesn’t work. 2. Sometimes when you open the lid, water continues to fill. Other times, the water stops. I haven’t yet figured out why it is not consistent. 3.
Drain and Spin sometimes fills the machine again. The manual doesn’t tell you this, but if you want to Drain and Spin again, yo must have OPTIONS set to OFF, or EXTRA SPIN” otherwise it will rinse again, defeating the purpose.
4. Fabric softener doesn’t dispense evenly when you put it in the middle hole, as instructed by the manual. So, when it switches to RINSE, I pour fabric softener into the water, over the clothes 5. Does not get enough water out of the clothes during spinning 6.
Not possible to select “EXTRA SPIN” when you are using fabric softener. So if you want to get extra water out of clothes, you have to do Drain and Spin. 7. If it’s set to HOT and you open the lid during filling, and you close the lid, it fills with cold water for about 15 seconds and then switches back to hot water.
this is a strange quirk 8. The owners manual says to put detergent on top of the clothes after you load them. However, the quick reference guide says to put detergent in the bottom of the tube before loading clothes.
(They should not tell you opposite information) 9. Precise fill is not acceptable for colored clothes because it pours very hot water on some colored clothes, and this is not good for bright colors. The lid is locked during filling, but after filling is done, you can open the lid and feel the water.
Every 6 inches the temperature is different. very hot on some clothes, very cold on other clothes. 10. I called GE twice and emailed once, trying to determine if my machine is defective. They all said I should get a GE technician to check my machine.
However, from past experience, I guess the technician will say there is nothing wrong. My point is: the GE people on the phone should know about the quirks that I described above, but they don’t. Specifically: Drain and Spin starts the RINSE cycle unless you have OPTIONS set to OFF or EXTRA RINSE; and: Water pours in cold in the first 15 seconds after opening/closing the lid.
The techs on the phone told me this means the machine is defective. I almost returned it, but I was concerned that the replacement machine would do the same thing. So I kept experimenting and figured out that these quirks are probably normal.
My recommendation is: Write down your settings, how much water is in the tub, and how hot the water is. there are many possible combinations of settings. This includes “Did I open the lid? Did I press Pause/Start?) These minor details make a big difference.
When you find a good setting for you, keep using that setting. Some people complained that the sounds were like a sick duck or a cow giving birth. Well, if you want a machine that plays Glory Hallelujah, you’re in for a disappointment.
This machine is not loud. And mine did not vibrate and walk across the floor as some other people said it did.
Purchased this GE washer with a matching GE dryer on (order date) 8/10/21. Initial washer delivered was dented, but the Best Buy installer told us they still had to take our old washer and couldn’t leave the dented one while we waited for the replacement.
The initial dryer delivered (same time as the washer) was installed incorrectly, causing a gas smell throughout our laundry room for approximately a week, the earliest they could bring the replacement washer & dryer.
My complaint (case # 267666481) went without a response, even though a Best Buy phone representative said someone would get back to me in 24 hours. Never happened! It wasn’t until I visited the store a 2nd week later, after returning from a business trip that a manager at the store listened to me.
When the 2nd washer and dryer delivery was made, the Best Buy set up representative acknowledged, after inspection, the initial dryer delivered was hooked up wrong and quote “could have caused problems”.
Now for the washer: Its complete junk!! The past month has been nothing but out of balance issues as has been CLEARLY STATED in many reviews prior to this one. I laugh at the manual that says “balance the load” and / or floor levels”.
This machine bounces around so much it runs into my laundry room walls, along with the noise and velocity of the inner tub banging against the outer walls of the washing machine itself, to the point family members won”t even stay in an adjacent room, because of the distraction, let alone the excess water issue.
WAKE UP GE AND INSTEAD OF ALL YOUR “Dear customer, we are sorry” responses, ACKNOWLEDGE YOU HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM AND FIX YOUR ISSUE. If this is happening to a machine just 4+ months old, what repair is next? If retailers like Best Buy, Home Depot, and Big Box stores would DISCONTINUE 3 / 4 of all the manufacturers skus they represent at store level, maybe these same manufacturers would wake up and inject some lasting quality into their products at the expense of profit.
The store manager was actually nice enough to discount my bill a bit, but what’s the point if a product does not work properly and is worth nothing to begin with because I now have to buy another washer? This IS BY FAR THE WORSE CONSUMER PRODUCT I HAVE EVER OWNED AND NEVER AGAIN.
If there were a zero star in the Overall Rating Section” that would be my choice!.
We’ve only had the new machine for about a month so far, but we are quite pleased with it. We hadn’t purchased a new machine in almost 42 years, dealing with the washers at rental homes or buying used ones all that time.
When the last one died, it was time to bite the bullet and buy a new one. One of the main reasons we chose this particular washer is because you can control the water level. I wasn’t thrilled about going back to a machine with an agitator, but I was so frustrated with the small amount of water our previous machine used–leaving soapy streaks on my dark pants, etc.
When it died, we decided to find one where we could control the water level, and where the wash times weren’t so darned long. We didn’t want a bunch of bells and whistles to go wrong on us, either. I read hundreds of reviews (both professional and personal) and finally settled on this GE model out of an overwhelming number of choices out there.
So far, so good. It does sometimes kind of churn my queen sized sheets into a twisted rope by the time it’s done, but it does wring out the water well in the process. Our clothes are coming out clean, and since we don’t wear fancy, delicate fabrics, we don’t mind if it’s a little harder on our clothes than a machine without an agitator would be.
It’s out in the sunroom, but I don’t notice it making a lot of noise, even when it’s spinning. Only once so far has it gotten out of balance and “walked” away from it’s designated spot during the spin cycle, and that was with an especially heavy load when wet that got to one side.
The drum isn’t as big as one without an agitator, but it’s plenty big enough for our needs.
Handle tough laundry chores efficiently with this top-loading GE washer. The 4. 2 cu. ft. capacity and heavy-duty agitator provide thorough cleaning for large loads, and the PreciseFill feature automatically selects the right water level for optimal performance.
This GE washer’s 11 cycle settings offer versatility for various fabrics and washing needs. Deep Clean Cycle Achieve the ultimate deep clean for your toughest laundry loads with 67% more cleaning power than the most commonly used cycle (Colors, Normal cycle).
Capacity Wash large items and do laundry less often with a large 4. 2 cubic feet of capacity. Water Level/Load Size Take the guesswork out of choosing the right water level with PreciseFill or manually select any water level for maximum cleaning performance.
Deep Rinse Ensure clothes are rinsed free of detergent, fabric softener and stubborn soils. Heavy-Duty Agitator Thoroughly clean every load thanks to a powerful washing motion. Stainless Steel Basket Long-lasting, durable stainless steel resists rust and won’t chip, peel or snag clothes.
Made in America This appliance is made in America and contains 70 to 90% U. S. content. 11 Wash Cycles Choose from 11 wash cycles that accommodate every load type. 6 Water Temperatures Pick the water temperature you prefer and wash your way.
700 RPM Spin Speed Efficiently remove water and minimize drying time with a fast spin speed. Bleach and Fabric Softener Dispensers Improve results with dispensers that automatically release bleach and fabric softener at the optimal point during the wash cycle.
Cycle Status Lights Easily track your wash cycle with lights that indicate fill, soak, wash, rinse or spin status with just a glance.
We needed a clothes washer fast as our old unit had shook itself to death, I had past knowledge with LOWE’S Appliance as they always came thru with great service so I contacted a local store and went on Line to check out various units.
Due to the features and price I selected the GE model GTW335ASN2. Features were to be just the basic controls minimum bells and whistles with a stainless steel tub and price around $600. 00. After reading the reviews that were generally positive, the price and features I proceeded with purchase.
Lowes came thru with delivery on time and installation was straight forward. I am so happy with the unit and the common sense controls and layout, much much more than expected for the price. There are two important controls this unit has, 1.
) Is the pause button which shuts down the unit and unlocks the tub lid when in spin cycle and is handy say you need to add more clothes, the unit is vibrating more than sensor can correct and you have to adjust clothe distribution in tub (Only had to do this once when one heavy garment was among other light ones) after adding clothes or adjusting imbalance issues simply hit pause button again and unit starts where it left off not back at the start.
2. ) The other great control is the DEEP RINSE Button. I use this function a lot because we have extremely hard water and the extra rinse and wash cycle gives you a much cleaner load I have seen the difference in our whites and colors.
I wanted a reasonably priced unit I have it, I wamted quality I have it, I wanted it to be simple to use I have it. I wanted it to be designed with common sense and appropriate controls I have it.
If you buy this washer, get an extended warranty or a computer that is used to troubleshoot it. I really should have bought the Speed queen washing machine instead of this one. Doesn’t clean well, even for something as simple as bodywash rags.
Do not purchase this machine if you have older plumbing set up. The pressure is too much and will flood out of the drain pipe vs the older style washing machines that slowly released the water. The common issues I’ve had with it are as followed: *If anyone has any knowledge on these issues please let me know* -If you like to presoak your clothing, then do it in a separate container or tub because The water will drain out within about 7-10 minutes so.
-unlike my previous washing machine that (I wish I would have brought with me) was the old school type, theres no way to reset the washer until it’s finished whatever it’s doing. Unplugging it does not reset.
Old school washers can be reset just by unplugging it. If this washer is stuck in the issue cycle, you cannot fix it without a computer compatible with the brand. -randomly This washer will be in mid-cycle on the wash setting and will dump all of the water before it has finished.
It doesn’t happen all the time but it’s common. Leave the lid open otherwise it can start by itself. -before the one year manufacturers warranty was up, I had three service techs here fixing the issues.
I really regret getting this washing machine and I regret not having the money to get the extended warranty. The techs did not recommend this model based on the quantity of the service calls he got on it.
-Becomes unbalanced frequently. Even when one of the technicians was here, he ran it through about 10 cycles to make sure everything was okay and he brought his stuff to put into the drum to make it balanced, it kept throwing off balance codes and the washing machine moved about 4 ft away from my wall and almost caused a flood.
I SENT A REVIEW TO GE IN JUNE 23,2022: I got my washer installed on June 3, 2022. My 20+ year old washer was removed & recycled before the new old came. This washer had a very cheap short plastic hose for removing the water with a poorly designed terrible fastener.
Of the 4 washes I did the hose came off 3 times flooding my basement. I went back to Home Depot where I bought it an explained my problem. I told them my old washer had a good RUBBER hose with a spring type fastener that you tightened with a screw.
It also had a hooked top to set in the drain. I wished I had kept that old hose that never ever gave me any problem. The woman at Home Depot gave me a better hose at no charge. It is an 8 foot hose with the same type of fastener and had a hooked end like my old hose.
It is plastic but it is more flexible and a better grade than the one that came with the washer. It was only $14. 95. I have only done one wash since but I think this hose will be more dependable and I won’t have to stay and watch it.
This is what I hope solves this problem for another 20+ years. They sure don’t make thing like they used to. Another problem is trying to stop the washer it seems to restart at the beginning of the cycle when you hit the pause button.
The only thing I like so far is the quick cycle. The other ones seem to take an awful lot of time with pauses I don’t understand. BETTER HOSE: Everbilt 8 ft. Corrugated Washing Machine Discharge Hose HRBDIS08EB.
The dual-action agitator rolls clothes throughout the entire wash basket while the 680 rpm spin cycle removes water from clothing to dry them faster, and the deep water wash option adds more water during the rinsing cycle.
The Amana top-load washer has a porcelain tub to stop clothes from snagging. Dual-action agitator Experience a thorough clean. The agitator is made up of two parts that work separately to roll clothes completely through each cycle.
Easily operate your washing machine Electromechanical controls make it easy to adjust settings. This size is a good choice for growing families and for washing bulky items like comforters. 13 automatic cycles give you more control Let you select the best cycle and options for your load.
Include delicate, cold wash, normal, drain + spin, casual, and more. Top-load design Lets you load and unload from a standing position. Plus, you can easily add forgotten items to the load once it’s started.
We’ve had our Amana washing machine about a month and are still getting used to it. We were in the habit of adding the soap; filling the tub with water; and adding the bleach. Not unique but we were used to being able to adjust the water level so as not to have too many items for the amount of water and we did that visually.
With Amana’s water sensor feature we are always double checking that there is sufficient water in the tub. Also, the tub fills painfully slooooow turning off and on multiple times, I suppose to somehow check the water level.
Turning the flow of water on and off excessively rather than letting the tub fill and starting the agitator concerns me that that will eventually impact our piping system as well as shorten the life of the machine.
Also the agitator turns on and off during the wash cycle rather than just going solid for a period of time. Lastly, we’ve been disappointed with how clean our clothes get without having to pretreat them.
Something else that didn’t need to do previously. We probably don’t use our machine as often as some since there is only two of us. Bottomline we prefer a very basic machine with few options and features which we had thought we were getting.
Give clothes a deep and gentle clean with the Whirlpool high efficiency washer with agitator. The two-way wash action agitator and stainless steel washer drum turn in opposite directions, moving fabrics smoothly through the wash.
The Quick Wash cycle washes small loads with high spin speeds removing more water. This auto sensing washer also regulates water levels based on load size.
I cannot emphasize what a disaster this washing machine is. This is not a vague complaint about how only old washing machines clean the best, no, this washing machine is an absolute design nightmare and I completely regret purchasing it.
The very first time it ran (with nothing even in it), the agitator snapped off. We thought it must have just not been totally snapped together well during install, popped it back on and went about using the machine.
Well we got a couple loads of laundry, then it kept snapping off again and again. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that one of the very tiny plastic notches that was somehow expected to hold the agitator in place had broken.
After a couple months of waiting for repair appointments and parts to come in, it finally got “fixed”. The repair technician mentioned what an awful design the agitators on machines have – how they’re both more fragile and much more difficult to replace parts on than most.
Well I tried to wash a small load of towels after he left, and the gear shaft snapped. SNAPPED. Not even just a super tiny piece of plastic this time, the metal bar that is supposed to turn the whole thing.
The entire gear case now needs to be replaced, and the technician isn’t sure he can do it because our house is small and the entire machine needs to be laid on its side and taken apart. He definitely can’t do it in the small bathroom our laundry is currently in, so we have to figure out how to move the machine before he comes.
**So if you purchase this machine, start saving quarters for the laundromat and make sure that your laundry room is large enough for the washing machine to be laid down and completely disassembled because we’re 4 months into this nightmare and it’s not over.
My 25 year old GE washer died forcing me to exhaustively research for a replacement. Reviews for all brands & grades were very discouraging (and I really hate the current water saving mandates). I finally settled on the GE GTW725BSNWS after discussions with a friend who is a former GE repairman and who was also being forced to replace his washer.
I recommend that you study the accompanying instruction manual to the point of underlining key parts. Each point on the cycle selector knob represents a separate computer program designed for specific fabric types.
In general you can adjust the settings, but not for every cycle. I adjust the settings for every load & have started noting what works best in my manual. I have washed at least 8 different types of loads & in general a run takes around an hour, give or take 10 minutes.
This is FAR superior to the 1 1/2 hours generally required by the water saving machines that came out when they were first mandated. So I REALLY enjoy the “approximate time remaining display”. You can raise the lid to check if fabric is submerged & if the water is the correct temp, but only if the lid is unlocked.
It unlocks at different times during the wash & if you press the pause button. I have had the machine go out of balance twice. After the wash finished, I discovered 3 sheets had shifted, but it did not appear to have affected the machine’s operation.
The second event caused a great racket when I washed 4 bath mats & they all shifted while wet and heavy. So you will need to be close by while washing some types of loads and remember the pause button.
I whole heartedly recommend that you take advantage of Electronic Express’s delivery, install & haul away option that includes the required new hoses. When I wrote this review the company allowed a 7 day window for returns if there were problems with the machine.
You will want to confirm that. My experience with Electronic Express was superior. Due to the bad experiences so many have had with ALL brands of washing machines I am still anxious. The learning curve on the water saving machines is really steep, but it is clear that the designers of this GE washer have really put some thought into it.
Even if a part were to fail on this machine, I would have it repaired or buy the same machine again.
This is a below average washer. It has huge capacity for large families! With use, I’ve found that washer shakes quite a bit if there’s a small load and when draining water. The shaking can get really noisy and it shakes to a point that external cover of the washer ends up hitting the adjacent wall and/or the dryer sitting next to it! I’m afraid it’s going to break open the water hose/pipe with all the vibration/shaking!! The machine has auto-balance feature but it doesn’t kick in right away nor does it prevent the imbalance from happening in the first place! Another issue is that there’s no option to select small/medium/large load size as the system is designed to “sense” the laundry weight, and auto-select the correct load size based on weight; with no override feature.
This auto-sense technology does NOT work accurately. The load size is often mis-calculated by this auto-sense feature, leading to inaccurate water fill amount, and the excessive shaking! Unless you have large load size 99% of the time, I do not recommend this washer for small families.
Adaptive Wash technology with Active Bloom wash action senses the size of each load and then adapts water levels and wash actions, based on the type of load being washed, for optimal cleaning. Soak, scrub and wash all in one spot with a built-in faucet and pre-treat brush in this Whirlpool top load washing machine.
Give your clothes a deep yet gentle clean with two-way wash action in this 4. 7 cu. ft. top load washer with agitator, and wash small, lightly soiled loads fast with the Quick Wash cycle. Tackle stains without a trip to the sink with the Automatic Presoak option, set your washer to soak for 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes, then the washer will add water and detergent for soaking, the cycle will start automatically once soaking is complete.
Run the Clean Washer with affresh cycle every 30 washes to thoroughly clean the inside of your washer using an affresh Washer Cleaner tablet or liquid chlorine bleach.
We needed to replace our 20+ year old front loader and wanted to go back to a top loader. We were really impressed with the multitude of features to include the ability to easily switch between use an agitator or impeller.
As a top loader, very impressed with the large drum and the ability to load compared to a front loader of equal size! Thus far, it seems impossible to overload this washer as clothing fill the entire 360 of the drum compared to filling 180 minus of a front loader to include using the depth of the drum.
We truly enjoying the Load and Go Dispenser and how well it measures out the optimum use of detergent. We are most impressed on how well the machine cleans clothing. Perhaps the only two features that would put this washer over the top would have been a built-in heater option and a multiple speed motor for desire rinse speeds – currently only two speed options exist.
The only current complaint is how loud the machine is. Definitely not impressed and very surprised by how unexpecting loud the washer is compared to my previous machine and other washers I have used throughout my travels.
As the Parent Company of Maytag, one would think the warranty would be equal or not better for a Made in America product but certainly hoping the warranty would not be used and expecting it to outlast our previous machine!.

If you buy this, make sure you have a stellar iron and a good supply of ear plugs. It twists clothing into unimaginable wrinkles and groans and creaks like it is 40 years old. It is so loud, it sounds like someone is operating heavy equipment in the laundry room.
You can literally hear it across the house moaning and creaking. In 40 years of doing laundry, never been so disgusted. Washed king sized mattress cover and there was so much soapy residue after 3 washes (2 sans soap), it finally had to be taken to a laundromat (ewww) to get it out and off-and yes, the automatic soap dispenser was utilized the one time.
If you wash towels or sheets, it shimmies and sways, becoming so off balanced that it has to be stopped and reshuffled. There are literally only 3 spin speeds. None, medium, fast. And, if you put in water from the dispenser, it tells the machine you want to ‘soak’ for 3 hours.
When you click it off, it drains the water. So much for efficiency. The dryer is equally shoddy. The control board quit the first week and it would not shut off or turn off. I had to unplug, wait and then re-plug to get it to work.
At least that has yet to happen again. The interior light wants to come on at the beginning of every load so you have to push multiple buttons, multiple times to get the light to go off. And nearly all of the loads required 2-3 complete cycles to get things completely dry.
I bought this at Lowes on 8/19/2022. I have called and texted Lowes multiple time in order to return these horrendous pieces of apparatus. They only honor 48 hours to return. As if. Everyone I have spoken to has supplied divergent information regarding a return and have yet to have anyone respond to returning this.
Wait to hear from someone and when nobody responds and another call is placed, it starts the clock over. Just one of the worst experiences ever.
I bought this washer 3 weeks ago for our new home. I’ve washed just about everything a household washes in it during that time. I like the washer much better than my old front loader. I wanted a large capacity to wash large bedding with ease.
I wanted it to last. I wanted a good motor. I’m fairly pleased with my purchase, but here’s some negative things to consider. I’m disappointed that I can’t control the water level more simply. I’d like to choose the water level myself – Small, medium, large, x-large etc.
versus choosing “what” I’m washing and then wondering and waiting and letting the machine “decide” how much water to use. Most everything is getting nicely clean. The cycles are longer than I’d like in many instances, and there seems to be a lot of waiting (nothing happening) time in the cycles of the machine.
I am still confused as to how much detergent is being dispensed with the auto-load feature – another smart feature i may turn off. I haven’t been able to connect it to wifi for use with the app as we are still waiting for internet service to be installed.
I give Whirlpool a sloppy 1 star for the lack of a decent operating manual. It’s like a quick start booklet with minimal information. I am hoping the app will give me more info once I can get that set up.
For instance, there is ZERO info about using bleach, how much to use, what setting to use, etc. I have found it will only dispense the bleach i add to the dispenser when the setting is on “whites”. In the past, I have always used the bleach dispenser to add white vinegar to my colored towels to keep them fresh and further deter odors.
I can’t with this machine. It won’t dispense it. I’d love to give Whirlpool some ideas for how they could truly make a machine that would meet the needs of persons actually doing all the laundry!! I washed a white king size comforter without the agitator, with the highest water level, and it would not fully immerse it to get it clean, and it was only lightly soiled from our move.
I ended up pulling it out after the 2+ hour cycle had ended, flipping it over in the basket, putting the agitator back in, and rewashing it, giving both cycles additional rinse cycles. It took nearly five hours to wash it twice.
It appears clean, but smells very much like detergent, and I really wonder if it fully rinsed the detergent out. The machine is not necessarily loud when agitating, but it sounds like a loud laser jet printer, and it does “click” and “knock” thru the cycles.
Overall, I like it, but I feel like if it were designed to this female’s needs, the things listed (and more) would be addressed. How can you try out a washer before you buy it, though?? Lastly, it’s baffling to me that you can add lots of detergent to use the auto-load feature, but if you use fabric softener for nearly every load, you still have to add that manually to every load.
I need a louder signal bell/chime for the end of a cycle, or better yet, let the user choose the volume of the signal, or no signal at all. Homes have different needs. I’ll be happy if the app can notify me when I’m downstairs that the washer cycle has ended.
But until there’s a mechanism to transfer the wet laundry to the dryer automatically for me, that’s about the only use I’ll get from the wifi capabilities. Perhaps the app has a complete user manual and I can finally read more about the machines.
We shall see. I am not holding my breath. I wanted a machine with a good motor that would last. The salesperson was helpful and suggested all other less expensive machines, even the other Whirlpool or Maytag machines, had cheaper and less powerful motors, and that this direct drive motor should outlast any of the others.
He’d been selling and servicing appliances his whole adult life, nearly 40 years. I sure hope he helped me make the right decision about the motor, at least. And, by the way, there’s zero information available about the motor for the consumer, either.
We’re all operating on blind faith as consumers of washing machines and dryers, aren’t we??.
Having used the washer a few months now, there are many features I really like, such as the pre-soak, multiple rinse, and the washer seems to do a great job. I really like the removable center for large bulky items like blankets and comforters.
The major Con that I see is anyone using non-liquid soap, or liquid soap and not wanting to use the dispenser, or adding additional powder items such as Oxi-Clean. There seems to be no way to add water in advance to add the detergent so it dissolves.
Which means I need to pre-mix the detergent before adding. Something I would never have to do with other top load washers. Pressing the “water” button would have been awesome to add some water, place the detergent, and then start the cycle, but it seems in some developer’s world that anytime the add water button is pressed, then next step is to drain the system, defeating the purpose of being able to add some water.
The locking lid is annoying as well which was not known until after we received the washer, I understand the potential reasons, but I feel this should be an option vs a requirement. I don’t quite know how the different options are handled, but I would hope some update could be available to change some of these minor annoyances, and make this an outstanding washer.

I purchased this over the black friday weekend at a steal. The quality and feature set for the price I paid is unmatched. The capacity of this washer is immense. I have yet to encounter a garment or laundry load situation where I wasn’t able to fit everything and have the machine actually clean the contents correctly.
Pros: Wireless connectivity via smartthings and google home. It’s nice to get a notification when your load is complete. Capacity – it’s huge and deep. Fits king size comforters fits easily. Quiet operation.
Slow close lid – no more slamming of the washer lid. Auto-dispense – I never thought this would be such a useful feature but I really do enjoy loading detergent and softener and being able to run many loads without having to fill detergent/softener each time.
I also like that you can manually adjust how much of each is used per-load. Cons: The lid and control panel are a fingerprint magnet. If you’re a neat freak, this will be really annoying. I’ve been extremely pleased with this washer (and dryer) and highly recommend it.
NOTE: Short people may find reaching down into the tub a hassle since it is very deep. Thankfully, I’m 6f2in and don’t have this issue but I can see it as an issue.
We wanted a big top loader to be able to handle washing doonas and bedding. The machine does this well as its BIG and powerful, but there are a couple of annoying factors in using this machine on daily basis.
Firstly I thought the machine was going to be like my old 8k Samsung, flexible washing with easy to use settings. This machine use requires a manual read, plus you cant just add a sock mid cycle as the lid locks shut and you have to shut it down and start again if your game enough.
The actual size of the machine didn’t fit in the laundry ( I know its not a Samsung fault, I should have measured) but the house in a new build with standard size doorways we had to remove the laundry door to fit the machine in.
Next problem, I defy anyone to be tall enough with long enough arms to get to the bottom of the tub to remove the socks & undies after the wash has been completed. I am using BBQ thongs and wearing high heels for the job as the machine was built for a giant.
Lastly I can’t turn off the super annoying jingle jangle sound alerts that ring though each cycle and go completely nuts with a full happy chinzy chorus at the end. gosh what I have bought into??? I loved my 8 kilo samsung and hate the big new 12 kilo monster that will probably swallow a family member and send us all deaf.

Choose your water level on any cycle with Water Level Selection and wash a load in as little as thirty minutes with the QuickWash Cycle.
I was in a pinch when my 12+ year old workhorse Whirlpool Cabrio washer’s transmission failed. I needed a new washer fast and had a physical size limitation in my laundry room. I preferred to stick with Whirlpool because of my positive history with the brand, and – due to limited inventory (supply chain issues) – this was the only model that fit the bill that had all (most?) of the features I was looking for (stainless steel tub, impeller).
I had to buy it sight-unseen because of the 5 local stores that carried it, only one had it in stock and no one had it in-store. The controls are simple and self-explanatory. It also has a greater interior capacity than my last unit yet is the same physical dimensions.
And the price was right (I paid the same amount that I paid for my Cabrio 12+ years earlier). so I kinda know I bought a “lesser” unit. That said, while it is not as quiet as my Cabrio, I would not say that it is “noisy”.
I do miss having an upper tray for laundry detergent that allows me to put the detergent in AFTER I load the washer, but remembering to put the detergent in first is just a habit I have to break. It doesn’t spin as fast as my Cabrio so clothes don’t come out as dry, but certainly dry enough (my old machine was a beast); I didn’t notice drying times being significantly longer.
I did experience the water-saver mode complaints that I read in some other reviews (not all clothes get “wet” initially), but I have also read that you have to use the washer a while in that mode for it to “learn”.
That said, I am on well water, so I don’t pay for water usage. I turned water-saver mode off and the tub fills nicely. Clothes come out clean which I suppose is the point after all! Its not “perfect” (I May have bought something else had the situation been different) , but – considering supply chain and size limitations – this washer meets my needs and gets the job done.
Not sure if my washer is faulty or what’s going on. We replaced a washer we’d had for about 20yrs with this in May 2022, immediately noticed the low water fill but figured the sensing was off. Nope. Even for deep water wash on Bulky/Sheets was the same fill rate, then we noticed sometimes it wouldn’t add enough water to cover clothes and wouldn’t agitate the clothes enough to allow them to tumble in the drum.
There were times the clothing the soap pod was on were the only clothes that smelled clean, and clothing was still soiled at times. I’m having to wash 12 pieces of clothing TWICE to get adequate washing.
I understand it’s water saving but, I’m having to wash my blankets and towels at the laundry mat because this washer is not useful for that. We’ve also noticed that the washer seems to run different times, and different washing cycles even if we have it set to bulky/sheets, heavy, and deep water wash/rinse.
This is the constant setting that we have to wash on or laundry will never get done. It takes me all day to wash one normal sized basket of clothes, and 8 towels. God forbid I wash blankets.

I chose this LG washer because of the high review rating. Internal sensors in this washer don’t allow hot water to enter the machine. I tried every wash setting (cold, warm and hot) and cold was the only water temperature that filled the washer.
The water temperature coming through the hot water hose was 120 degrees. There was full/hard water pressure coming through the hose. Had the Best Buy repairman come out to check it out. He said the machine is defective, so we sent the first washing machine back.
The second washer was exactly the same, only cold water no matter what wash water temperature setting I used. Sent the second washer back to get a refund. Very disappointed!!! I did like all the features on the machine, however, I do wish it had a warm rinse option.
Also wish it would add water to at least cover the clothes without having to set the “deep fill” option so the clothes would get clean. Using the “deep fill” option every time or having to rewash a load of clothing is NOT Energy Efficient.
Stop your clothes from getting tangled up and enjoy more peaceful washing with the Samsung WA44A3205AW 4. 4 CuFt Smart Top Load Washer With ActiveWave Agitator in White. The special wing shape and size of the ActiveWave Agitator reduce the tangling of clothes around the pillar of the agitator.

It also has a digital display that clearly shows the washing time. And the jog wheel makes it simpler and more intuitive to select a cycle. Easy troubleshooting from the convenience of your smartphone.
Smart Care interacts with your washer and dryer to perform an immediate diagnosis and offer quick solutions.
Do not buy this if you are petite. Cannot reach into bottom of washer to retrieve small items ie socks and underwear. Have NEVER had this problem with a top load. Also, I was reading in the q and a, that the use of vinegar can damage your machine.
I have always used vinegar as a fabric softener, what are you building your machine with that vinegar can damage them? That is need to know info that your sales reps should share before selling these units, it’s a deal breaker.
I like to soak my gentles before washing, just cannot figure out how to accomplish that with this machine? And, I just do not find that there is near enough water to provide proper cleaning of my loads.
Have not yet figured out how to add water as I see fit! And…. the cycles are sooo long, unless you use the quick wash which I haven’t tried so not sure if your load will be clean. Big mention here, there is no light in the matching dryer, also a deal breaker and sales reps should make sure to point that out before making the sale.
Put a light in your dryers Samsung, just an easy small step to make life a little brighter for you customers:) I so wish I could return these units and make a better choice!.
I bought this 3 weeks ago to replace a Whirlpool washer that never got clothes properly clean, and we tolerated it for 8 years. I wish we’d dumped it sooner! This Samsung has the right balance of options, without being gimmicky (like who needs a wifi connection to your phone and do you really think it will still be relevant in 10 or 20 years’ time?) I like the simple, intuitive options to operate options to choose water levels, temperature etc.
The pause is very useful, so that I can leave some things to soak, or add stray socks. The lid unlocks quickly when its stopped rotating, so it achieves safety with practicality I was suspicious of other washers without a central agitator, and can’t comment on how they might perform in comparison, but this one works great.
Previously T shirts would come out smelling bad and now they are clean and don’t stink. Dirty jeans etc. are also washed the first time. Its quieter than our old model. The estimated time to completion and the end of cycle tune it plays are helpful as they alert me to get things in the dryer straightaway.
It was installed by the (free) delivery guys in about 10 minutes, and fitted the vacated space precisely.
I bought this in Dec based on the overall positive reviews here. By Feb, I started getting this 8C error code. Also, I noticed in the Normal Operation, the machine did not agitate during the Rinse cycle, it filled part way with fresh water, drained, then went directly to Spin – for 30 minutes! I ended up having to pause after Wash, then switch to Rinse and Spin.
Funny, it seemed to work correctly for the other operations of Quick Wash, Bulk and Delicate. Another weird thing I noticed, the water temperature is different when I change operation, for eg. Cool water under Normal is “cool”; however Cool water under the Delicate is “warm” as the glass top fogs up.
I would have expected the water temperature to be independent of the Wash cycle. A repair technician came out and replaced the board, 8C error gone, but the rinse and water temp. issues were not fixed.
Not sure if I got a lemon – on the phone 4 weeks now with their 1 800 customer support, they promise to call, but never do. Every time I call, I get someone new and have to explain the same thing over again.
I paid close to $900 for this with taxes and expect it to work. Come on Samsung, you’re a huge conglomerate, why can’t you assign one person to a case number and solve my problem promptly?.
Deepwater wash option Get more water to help break down loose soils. This option automatically adds more water to your load, so heavily soiled clothes get an optimal clean. Built-in water faucet Easily prewash clothes and other items right in the washer with a conveniently located faucet that gives you easy access to an instant water stream to remove loose soils.
Presoak Option Save a step by soaking and washing in one cycle. The Presoak Option starts washing your laundry after a 30-minute presoak. 360 wash agitator Multiple wash motions gently move clothes up, down, and side to side throughout the cycle, helping to loosen soils and provide a thorough clean in different water levels.
I read and watched so many reviews on this washer and every washer in its class. So glad I went with this one – cleans wonderfully and it’s so nice to have the agitator for large or soiled loads and the impeller for gentle cycles.
No matter the laid side I use 1 persil or tide pods and the laundry comes out clean and fresh. High efficiency machines need 1 pod max! Any more and you will have too much soap and get less than desirable results.
Soap works with the water to lift the dirt up and out but if you have more soap than the water can handle you upset the balance and the soap will basically form a barrier on top of the water and hold the dirt down so it settles back on your clothes.
So if your clothes aren’t getting clean – use less soap not more! Even your biggest loads don’t need more than 2 Tablespoons (1/8 cup) or about 1 pod. I promise-google ‘how many tablespoons of soap should I use’ and you’ll see this written about over and over.
The recommendations on the laundry packaging brands are pure marketing to get to you use more and spend more money! They are based on old washers that use a lot of hot soapy water. When pods first came out Tide advertised it as ‘1 is all you need’ because it is extremely concentrated and it’s still true to this day! The same with liquid detergent labeled HE – don’t use more than 1/8 cup for your largest loads.
Yes I know what Tide and Gain and Persil put on the package but that is based on increasing their sells! Trust me 1 pod (or 1/8 liquid cup equivalent) is all you need -cut your detergent bill in 1/2 and get cleaner clothes.
Also put the pod in first on the bottom and when using this machine in impeller load – pretend there is still an agitator in the center and add clothes around it – leave center of impeller disk open.
Follow this (all of which is in the manual if you read it) and you will be so happy with this washer!.
I bought a washer at Home Depot in August and had it shipped to my house on Martha’s Vineyard. I paid to have the old washer removed. The delivery company dropped it off and said they wouldn’t bring the washer into the basement, so I had to lug it downstairs myself and they wouldn’t take the old washer away saying “that’s not our responsibility”.
After they left and I opened the cardboard box, I found out the front of the washer had a dent in it (but it worked fine). I contacted Home Depot and they said they’d ship another. A few weeks later the new washer arrived and the delivery company tried to charge me $120 for delivery and said they wouldn’t take away the first (dented and new) washer away even though it was a replacement.
I had to contact Home Depot at least 10 times (and that’s not including the number of times I was transferred from one person to another) to finally get them to waive the delivery fee and take away the first washer.
I had to bring the new washer downstairs also – and it’s very heavy and the stairs are steely. When I unboxed it and set it up, it didn’t work. It appears the lid locking mechanism is defective and therefore won’t go into spin cycle.
I contacted Home Depot several days later and they told me I didn’t report that it didn’t work within 48 hours, so I had to deal with Whirlpool. I called Whirlpool. Whirlpool told me they wouldn’t ship me a new one (even though it’s under warranty) and my brand new, right out of the box washer needed to be repaired instead.
But, when they tried to find a repair person, they struggled to find one on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. I finally found one for them, but the repair person can’t come until mid-November. So I still don’t have a washer, all my clothes are dirty, I’ve lugged several washing machines up and down my basement stairs repeatedly, I can’t get Whirlpool to replace the defective washer and I’m generally not happy at all.
Whirlpool is a well know and respected brand and there’s a simple solution to this problem – ship me a new washer that isn’t damaged and actually works!!!!.
Extremely noisy machine. The water fill valve sounds like a jet airplane. Surely there are water fill valves that will operate silently. The beginning spin cycle has a metallic grinding noise. The machine lacks adequate userr selectable water level options.
The standard water level is inadequate to even cover the clothes and the deep water selection adds nearly a full tub, considerably more water than is needed. There is no owner’s manual provided with the machine nor anything on-line.
Even a new ceiling fan comes with an owner’s manual. This is the 4th Whirlpool washer I have owned since 1976 and the performance and quality of the previous machines was a prime factor in my selection of Whirlpool.
With the noises coming from this machine I seriously doubt that it will last the average 15 years of the previous machines. And I doubt I would ever purchase another Whirlpool washer. The sloped top on these machines is a STUPID idea.
I poured the fabric softener into the measuring cup and sat the bottle down on the dryer to lift the lid on the washer to pour the softener and the softener bottle slid off the dryer and spilled on the floor.
Whoever approved this sloped top design obviously never actually washed clothes. Form over Function, akin to putting the brake pedal on a car on the passenger side because it looks better with one pedal on each side.
Sadly, after using the machine for nearly a month I cannot find one thing I like better than my previous top-load Whirlpool machine.
Clean your whole closet with confidence thanks to this Maytag top-load washer. This commercial-grade washer uses a dual-action agitator, moving clothes around during the cycle to blast through stubborn stains.
Need even more cleaning power? The PowerWash cycle is your secret weapon in the fight against dirty, dingy clothes. For a load of heavily soiled fabrics, smelly sports equipment, or large comforters, you can even increase the water level in the stainless steel drum with the Deep Water cycles and relax while your washer does all the work.
I have had this washer for 2 years now. I have searched high and low for a old fashion washer without all the fancy bells and whistles that I do not need and wanted a washer that fills with water to clean the clothes.
So far I have been very happy with this washer. My clothes come out very clean and fresh smelling. I only use the deep fill features because the normal cycle only fills the machine half way with water and only gives a spray rinse instead of a full tub of water rinse.
At first it was a quiet machine but over time it does get noisy. I had a Maytag washer for over 26 years and than you couldn’t get parts so I did my research and watched you tube videos on this machine.
Yes washing machines are not made like they made them many years ago, but this washer does the job really well. I just hope it lasts as long as my old Maytag washer that was 26 yrs old. At least either once a month or 2 months I do a power wash cycle to clean the machine.
All you need is a cup of bleach and put it on hot water and the machine washes itself. I have read reviews with people who have tried to wash the My Pillow in the machine. You have to put 2 pillows in the machine or some towels to balance out the load, those instructions are on the My Pillow Label.
All in all I finally have another no frills washing machine that fills the tub with water and cleans the clothes really clean and rinses the clothes really well. I hope Maytag never changes this machine.
If I could give a NEGATIVE 5 STARS I would for the Maytag Commercial Washing Machine MVWP57GW and Maytag Customer Service. I paid nearly $1000. 00 for this machine and received a LEMON. From the very first load of laundry the green cycle lights went from FILL, RINSE, DONE with all three lights staying on at the same time.
The agitator never worked, the clothes washing cycle never worked. Maytag said I can not receive a WORKING brand new washing machine. This LEMON has to be repaired. So for a $1000. 00 I DID NOT receive a brand new WORKING washing machine but have now fallen into Maytag’s warranty LEMON repair nightmare.
I would give anything if I had purchased Speed Queen. Maytag does not stand behind their products, sends out Lemons, making it the customer’s time and fault to deal with it. DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER buy the Maytag Commercial Washing Machine MVWP575GW.
If you do, be prepared to play Russian Roulette keeping your fingers crossed you will actually receive a brand new WORKING washing machine. Shame on Maytag!!.
This washer is unbelievable. The clothes come out snow-white and the colours are bright. My Mother and sister have used it and they are blown away at how the clothes turn out. I can’t believe it. It doesn’t have auto sensing for water.
That would have been nice to have. That’s ok. I’d rather have a washer that can clean the clothes rather than sense the water. Maytag has always been the best.
The Maytag top-loader has a 5. 4 cu. ft. allows you to tackle your largest loads with confidence. It’s PowerWash Agitator tackles any load size with both efficient and concentrated cleaning to fight stubborn stains and robust wash action to help break up messes.
The Extra Power button boosts stain-fighting performance on any wash cycle with a dual-temperature. Equipped with a robust stainless steel basket that is built to last for the long haul. This Wifi-enabled washer lets you stay in control and efficiently manage laundry from anywhere.
Bought this washer to replace an old Whirlpool, which had its agitator go out. Really wanted an agitator washer, but had read lots of reviews that said modern washers never fill with enough water, and that modern agitators don’t really do what you expect them to, sometimes shredding clothes that never get fully wet, or don’t have enough water to move around in freely.
I saw a few favorable reviews on this one, as well as from third-party sites that reviewed appliances, and this one seemed to rank high. The thing that eventually sold me on it was the deep fill settings.
It can be a little confusing, as certain wash cycles don’t allow max water fill, but the deep fill definitely allows enough water for the clothes to move freely. It’s not completely to the top of the tub, but it’s plenty for clothes to float around in (provided you don’t overstuff the tub).
I feel the extra movement and water volume allows for a better clean, and helps prevent damage to clothes if they can’t really swish around. The agitator also seems to work fairly well. While clothes don’t get turned over rapidly, it does eventually turn them over after a few minutes.
The clothes on the bottom will get drawn to the top, and the clothes on top will be drawn under. Perhaps not the most efficient agitator, but it does what it’s intended to do over the course of the wash cycle.
(Certainly better than not having an agitator at all!) There’s an impeller at the bottom, too, so combined with the agitator, there’s a lot of movement. The downside to the impeller is it can sometimes twist clothes, but it hasn’t caused any real issues in the month I’ve been using this washer.
One downside is there is no built-in faucet, so to pre-dissolve oxy powders and the like, or pretreat stains, you need to go to a separate sink. The glass lid is a bit of a moot feature as, even on cool temperature setting, the glass tends to get a bit foggy, so you can’t quite see the contents of the tub anyway.
It still gives it a modern and sleek appearance, though. On the positive side, the lid also has two “up” positions, one fully open, and one about 3/4 open. This allows free access to overhead cabinets, room to open the doors, while keeping the lid up.
As far as the “Extra Power” button goes, I’m not entirely certain what it actually does. When I push it, I do notice that it adds a few minutes to the wash duration. Maybe it makes the agitator spin faster, or more rotations per minute? I’m not a scientist.
Regardless of the exact technology, I’m sure the few extra minutes of agitating does help to some degree. One thing I’ve noticed, which is slightly concerning, is when the washer is sensing the load, and doing its pre-wash, pre-rinse “test” spins, the inner tub can sometimes hit the walls/shell of the washer, which is fully visible and audible as the metal gets pushed out.
So far it’s not a severe problem, no dents or damage or anything of that nature. The sensor seems to do a good job at making adjustments to balance it before it gets out of control. If the auto-balance sensor and mechanism ever do go out, though, I imagine it could be quite a big problem.
I really like that it has a dedicated detergent and softener tray. As part of the tub filling, the water is pushed through those tray compartments at the appropriate point in the wash cycle. I like that the wash liquids get mixed and diluted with water a bit before being added to the load.
One drawback to the tray, however, is that there will still be a bit of water in it after the wash has completed. If left this way, it can take on a mildew smell, as the tray does not have enough air circulation to allow for adequate evaporation of the water inside.
It’s simple enough to slide the tray out and dump the water, or to use a freshly washed sock to absorb the excess water before tossing it in the dryer, but is certainly an extra step to keep in mind.
This washer was a bit on the pricy side, but I think it was worth it. Hopefully it will serve me well for another decade, as my last washer did.
First one delivered broke with a transmission oil leak the first day. Best Buy backed their sale and replaced the washer which has been working for the last 3 weeks. This machine replaced a GE top loader that was 16 years old.
My rating is compared to that. PROS: 1) Larger tub, 2) The ability to wash in hot water (GE only blended to very warm water), 3) Spin gets more water out of the load, CONS: 1) First unit broke the first day, 2) Load sensor to determine how much water to put in seems to start to agitate without enough water which in my mind will cause excessive wear on the clothes (This can be overridden on some cycles).
3) Wash cycle/agitator begins to move while some clothes are dry and the tub is not filled. 4) Lid locks (vs shutting off when lifted) More clothes or soap or softener cannot be added and the washing cannot be observed or checked on.
(Glass top is not very good as it is too dark inside the deep tub to see inside, and steam clouds the glass lid. 5) the wash cycle cannot be paused. To open the lid is to drain and spin the load at whatever point of the cycle it is at.
6) The blended agitator grabs strings and knots sleeves much more than the old GE. Only time will tell about whether I get 16 years out of this machine and whether I decide on if this machine is hard on my clothes.
Lastly I got the bigger tub to wash bedding blankets quilts and comforters. That I have not yet done. As for recommending this Yes or No, at this early point in my ownership I would go with no – given all the other machines out there, do your research.
I tried to get a machine with some history – the reviews were average and I am comparing to a 16 year old washer.
Our older washer suddenly developed a problem with the bearings, and it was time to buy a new one. I read some reviews and finally decided that this Maytag had what I needed, and with a sale at the time, the price was reasonable, relatively speaking.
I liked the agitator because our older one did not have one, and it became unbalanced fairly regularly. I also thought the app-based notification would be nice since our washer is in the basement. Delivery and installation were great, and the machine immediately went to work.
Using it was fairly intuitive, and the results were very impressive when compared with our old machine, though we thought the old one did just fine! The new is a definite improvement. Noise is decent, though it’s not “quiet,” and we’ve washed some larger items with good success.
I still haven’t used the app notifications though! Once thing that was nice is that it’s smaller than our previous Whirlpool Platinum machine, both in height and width. The glass lid is nice to see what’s actually happening rather than just guessing at the mysterious process inside.
Only downside is that water seems to sit in the detergent dispenser tray after each cycle. I’m not sure if adjusting the feet on the bottom would fix it (ie. , tilting the machine toward the back). It’s not a huge problem because the tray pops right out and back in for draining, but it seems like a small design flaw.
Other than that, we’re very happy. Hopefully the old dryer holds out!.

Overall, it’s a decent enough washer with some tacked on “smart” app features that are pretty worthless. Pros • Top Load is easy to reach into for shorter folks than most top loads • Overall cleans clothes well enough, but we usually don’t have grass stains, etc.
• FlexDispense is nice Cons • Annoyingly loud during “agitation”. coming from a front load I guess that’s the price to pay these days? I don’t know if it’s due to not having an agitator but the motor changing direction every 2 seconds causes a “silence” then “loud sound” very similar to the GTW460 washer they have.
You can find videos on GE’s site with the sounds. If you have this in a laundry room close to a living room or kitchen be prepared to hear it during the first 15-20 minutes of the cycle. If it were a constant sound it would eventually just be “background noise” but the alternating quiet and loud is what’s annoying.
• No chime sound when cycle is done out of the box. This seems to be fixed by running the app though to update the firmware on the washer. The chime is there when it ends but it isn’t as loud as the startup sound which is disappointing.
• Smart features are pretty worthless so far. The app isn’t intuitive for this model yet for setup. You’ll likely get confused when adding it because none of the current pictures in the app show this model.
You just have to pick the top load model and the follow the instructions in the app to get an idea of holding down the button to get the wifi to be solid and then after adding the washer it gets better in the app.
It will update the firmware on the washer itself too, but it doesn’t really say why or what’s been improved or added. It does give you access to a “water dispenser” feature in the app to allow the washer to dispense water onto clothing for stain sticks or spray, but the directions on how to turn it off after dispensing water don’t work on this washer (says to just turn the cycle dial to turn off but that does nothing).
I guess the washer assumes you’ll be running a load immediately. The app won’t let you actually control much on the washer or start a cycle in it’s current app version. You can stop a cycle though. It DOES give you notifications on when a cycle is ending or finished…but again…why do I need an app for this versus an audible chime on the washer itself? Overall I give it a 3/5.
It’s good at washing clothes, but the cons are pretty annoying. Calling this a “smart” washer and charging for such is going to make tech savvy people attracted to it only to be let down. The agitation sound though is what really lowers the rating…if it were quieter during agitation it would be 4 to 4.
So far the washer seems to be a nice replacement for our previous washer that broke after only 6 years. This is basically the same washer, so hoping it will last longer than 6 years. First issue occurred before the delivery guys had even left my driveway.
Went to bend the drain hose to go into the drain pipe and it snapped in the accordion section of the hose. I don’t know if it was just defective or too cold or what, but showed it to the delivery guys that made note of it.
Had to go to big box store where I bought the washer to get a universal one, which the didn’t charge me for, so that was helpful. Overall seems to wash well, a bit noisier than our previous washer, but not any louder, just different mechanical noises.
Has a lot of options for washing modes. More modes on the app, if you connect the washer to your WiFi. This was a rushed purchased do to our old washer failing, I did not purchase this for it’s connected features, nor did I realize it was a connected device until I started reading the manual.
That said, I like the app, even though it didn’t function properly initially. Every time I tried to go to the Download Cycle option, the app would shut down. Tried it again a couple of days or a week later and now it has options available.
Within the app you can turn on a water stream for pre-wash/spot wash stains (I guess?) which is interesting, but you have to carry your phone around all the time to use the feature, it is not selected from the washer itself.
It has a third/forth dispenser cup call Flex Dispense, for detergent, pre-wash, extra wash stuff, but again can only be utilized through the app, so kind of useless. Also, it only has two options in the app for what’s in the Flex Dispense cup, detergent and vinegar.
There’s a search feature, but nothing I searched for ever returned a result and was therefore unselectable. I’d like to use it for either Clorox 2 or Oxi powder, but those options are not available. So more of a gimmick it seems.
I suppose you could just put either of those in there an select when you want it added, but whatever. Clothes come out a lot less tangled in this washer than our previous one, which is a big plus.

Have had this about a month and it seems to be working well. The tub is nice and deep and the interface seems less fussy and complex than other units. As someone who is used to washers from the 80s and 90s it is still hard to see so little water in the tub and not a ton of suds.
I know that is the way they all are now, but I’m still not convinced that everything is getting wet and clean. If you use scent beads, note that you may find some don’t dissolve in this model. Seems to be when the washer is spinning at the beginning during its ‘analysis’ cycle the beads will rise up and stick to the sides of the drum.
You do have deep water wash options, but even then it doesn’t fill up all the way. Overall I think it is working fine, but it is an adjustment to modern, water conserving models. I thought the Wi-Fi and App on the phone feature was silly at first, but it is kind of nice to get a notification on your phone when the cycle is done.
It will also notify you if the cycle stops due to an unbalanced load. Also keeps track of when to run the Tub Clean cycle for you. These turned out to be nicer features than I initially thought.
I was replacing an old washer that was in the house I bought. The old washer would go off balance constantly and sounded like an earthquake. My previous house also had an old model that shook and banged when you used it.
When I decided to upgrade to this one with a much larger capacity, impeller instead of agitator, and all the bells and whistles with wifi and whatnot, I was not familiar with more modern washers. I was so used to old crappy washers that I kept going to check that this new one was actually working because it was SO quiet! I love the ability to download wash cycles that aren’t prebuilt into the washer.
I love the app that tells you when your wash is done. I LOVE the capacity since I wash a lot of large blankets covered in pet hair. I hope this washer is sturdy and lasts a long time, because it’s pretty much perfect.
This is a no frills washer. But who needs 10-12 different settings/cycles anyway? I’m coming from a front load and swore a few years ago I would never have another, primarily due to the mold/smelly issue.
Althoug I loved every thing else about it. This washer, with agitator, is a completely different animal. It does not clean as well as the front load. And the clothes come out way more wrinkled. And it goes off balance super easy.
I’m careful how I load items in the washer so it’s not me causing the problem. It should be able to handle a king size blanket. Not comforter but a cotton blanket. This washer is big! But it was having issues trying to spin.
Instead of shutting down with an error code it just kept refilling again and again. I hate to think of the wasted water. Finally I realized something wasn’t right and redistributed the blanket and then it spinned.
Same thing happened with a small rug. I even put in a large beach towel with it knowing it would not be happy. And sure enough it could not spin and kept refilling. No error code. I did everything I could but ended up having to take both items out, dripping wet, and hung them outside to dry.
Another very irritating thing is there is no hot water option for speed wash. Why? This makes no sense and is something I seriously miss. And as most people are saying, this washer, and most other top loads these days, does not give you enough water to cover the clothes! This washer does have a deep fill option however it will only work on certain cycles.
Forget using the normal cycle, which would probably be the most used setting by most people, as the deep fill option is not available. And without it the items are not in enough water to be covered. I still have time to return.
Large Capacity Smart Top Load Washer is equipped with our ActiveWave Agitator that is designed to reduce noise, vibration, and tangling while delivering powerful cleaning. Also, with Super Speed Wash you can wash a full load of laundry in just 28-minutes, without sacrificing cleaning performance.
Fewer loads, less time in the laundry room. Based on using Super Speed on a Normal cycle with an 8 lbs. load.
After some time in storage, and a cross country move our old cheap samsung washing machine would have taken more money than it was worth to repair it, so I quickly did some research on getting a new washer and dryer set.
I really wanted to invest in a better duo this time, and so I went with this machine and the matching dryer. We had some water pressure/pump issues in this new house so at first it was hard to gage whether it was an issue with the washing machine or just the water issues! I am happy to report that it was not the fault of the washer, and after fixing our water issues we have had no issues with the washer! I worried at first that it wouldn’t clean things well enough, since it doesn’t use as much water as I would like (at least on the normal setting) but haven’t had any issue with things not being clean and fresh so it must work! We didn’t love the quick wash setting, since it didn’t make our clothes smell fresh, but I might need to try it again after the water pressure issues are fixed, maybe it would work better this time.
The only thing I don’t like is that you can’t control the water level yourself, you just have to choose deep wash if you want it to be covered with extra water. And it took me a long time to figure out you CAN put it on just a spin cycle, without a rinse, you just have to turn the rinse button down to zero.
So, it took a while to figure it all out, but I have really loved this washer since then!.
Top loading washing machines without agitators are becoming more popular because they are more energy efficient and use less water. They are also gentler on clothes and don’t require as much laundry detergent.
However, they can take longer to wash a load of laundry and may not be as effective at cleaning very dirty clothes.
