20 Best Shop Stool With Backrest And Wheels (2022 Updated)

It appears DeWalt and NTool has this stool made for them by the same manufacturer except DeWalt adds casters whereas NTool doesn’t, and hence, NTool is lower priced than DeWalt’s. Jg’s version is similar but geometry is different, and to my eyes, not as aesthetically balanced, although the significantly lower price point had me tempted.

Had always been leaning towards DeWalt’s version with the casters since before the pandemic (I’m not a DeWalt fan-boy; had the NTool version come with casters I would have gotten it instead if it still maintained it’s price advantage), but after the pandemic hit, like a lot of things, the price of this stool jumped up.

When Tractor Supply Co. placed the DeWalt’s version on Xmas sale with free shipping, it was comparable to price of the Jg’s version so I finally pulled the trigger. The direction for assembly in English was practically nonexistent but it comes with just 3 parts that took only seconds to assemble without tools.

Starting from the top, the cushions are covered with synthetic material that is tougher than I had expected and surprisingly comfortable; the seat back is quite diminutive but provides unexpected amount of support and stability to your seating.

The hydraulics work like it should with quick and smooth action. The steel frame looks and feels robust just like the storage rack (main reason why I liked this) and the yellow paint seems of good quality (remains to be seen).

The under-seat shelf won’t hold much because of the seat post but nevertheless a nice aesthetic touch keeping with the theme of the storage rack. The casters roll well and does not feel cheap. Nothing negative to report.

Quality: Great build quality on the metal frame and casters. Seat cushion does feel cheap for a stool at this price point. The plastic pieces holding the wire mesh foot rest together are very flimsy, 7 out of the 8 pieces are damaged upon unboxing.

Time would tell about the cylinder. Value: Cost cutting is evident on some parts (see above). It does not justify the price tag in my opinion. Ease of use: Easy to put together as majority of parts have been pre-assembled.

Rolls around freely. Effectiveness: Does what it’s supposed to do. Agree with previous reviewer that the cylinder height adjustment can be improved. Durability: Solidly built overall. 4 stars only because of the broken plastic parts.

I bought this for two reasons. One- all my tools are dewalt. I figured why not keep with them since they make an adjustable height stool. Two- I recently took up oil painting and convinced my mom to join me.

She is older and has had many back surgeries. She needed a stool has standing and painting for a few hours at a time was killing her back. She has used it a few times now and is thinking of getting one for herself.

I have used it a few times myself for projects around the house. It goes up and down with ease. If you are on the shorter side, this stool might not be for you. I am 5’6″ and at the lowest setting my feet just barely rest on the ground.

You could put your feet up on the edge but there is not a lot of room for that nor does it seem like that would be comfortable for long periods. The stool seems very solid and scoots around my concrete basement floor nicely.

The material on the seat isn’t terrible but could also be improved upon.

My bike shop is in my garage and is exposed to sunlight, the material that stool cushion is made from does not fair well in this environment. The stool last about 3 years.

Nice and comfortable and vertically/horizontally right sized to fit in tight areas and rolls well. Useful as well doing bottom bracket work and/or just simply cleaning, removing, installing components, cables, housing, etc.

Especially useful as being a relaxing chair in the garage away from motor mouthed little kids.

Wish I had bought one when they were made in the USA. This is made in China and is no where near the quality of the original ones. It’s a good stool, but not at this price.

I have been searching for the perfect sewing chair, and finally took a chance to get this one with no regrets. I have a very small sewing room and very limited to the space between my sewing machine and the wall.

This stool is perfect for me to move around and sit for a long time. The cushion is very thick and comfortable. Adjustable height is perfect for my sewing machine and serger. Very well made, and I think it will last for many years.

I’m glad I took the chance to buy this. I considered this a sewing chair, instead of a stool.

This is a perfectly fine functional stool for the price. It assembles in seconds, and does everything you’d expect it to do (which, let’s face it, isn’t much: It rolls around smoothly, the top spins, and it adjusts to different heights easily.

) My only caution would be that it’s not as cushy as some other stools of this type. It’s not hard or uncomfortable; just firm, with sort of modest padding compared to some others. So if a super cushy stool is what you want, you might want to keep shopping and probably spend a little more.

But I’m very happy with mine.

I bought this item about two weeks ago and it arrived today. The directions were clear and I was able to put it together in about 8 minutes. I was concerned that for the price, the quality of the material would not be very good but once I took it out of the box, all of my concerns went away.

Once I got it together, I tried out raising and lowering the chair without any problems. I would recommend this chair if you are in the market for one. You will not be disappointed.

As indicated, I purchased this stool for use as a percussionist. After use at one rehearsal, I found this to be an excellent choice, though its utility is limited by our particular situation. I am on a 4′ X 4′ platform with a back lip to prevent fall-off.

The base of this stool is of such a size that it leaves too little “floor” space in front of it on the platform for the two drum stands I need for my current performance. I bought it so that I could quickly swivel between the two drums, which are played one at a time.

With the 4′ X 4′ platform, my knees touch the left-hand drum, so that quick swiveling is not possible. I am investigating using a 4′ X 6′ platform, but this may not be practical.

This is the 2nd stool I’ve purchased. The first one I bought from a school supply big store. I’ve been using that for over a year and there is no sign of wear at all! I was so happy to find it in Webstaurant at a much better price! This is a high quality product.

Very easy to put together, very comfortable and glides across the floor really well. The cushion is very thick and firm. The vinyl is good quality and easy to clean.

Purchased this stool from Northern Tool. The lift cylinder worked for the first 6 months. Then within the last week it started lowering from top to bottom within 3 minutes when sitting on it (I weigh 200 lbs.

). The lift cylinder is bad. The instructions show available parts but when I enter the part number on the Sunex website nothing happens. Can’t find any warranty info. As a parts manager I would not recommend this product due to lack of support.

Instructions fail to tell the Feet on the bottom of the legs are adjustable! to correct the wobble. The hardware is decent the directions are great. The foam cushioning is not plush, the angle of the back rest could be better.

But all in all this is a nice bar size stool / butt rest. Perhaps same as China freight that comes in black not chrome. Every thing is made in China now days. Is that bad quality stuff ?? China = inexpensive and perhaps we we pay the price in the long run.

Purchased this stool last week and after using it a handful of times the stitching on seat has blown out and legs have shifted, (I am 190lbs) no longer sits level. Have submitted warranty request, will see what happens.

I love this stool, great quality. I was able to sit down and organize my Kitchen cabinets and it will also come in handy working on my riding lawnmower, gauging my car tires and such. I gave it 1 less star because afterwards I found basically the same stool at Harbor Freight for $10 less.

Still happy though.

I use this while sewing. It lets me be more flexible in my motions while sewing large items. The tray at the base also makes for a nice storage for items not used on a regular basis, but still needs to be within reach.

The shipping was also super fast. I am pleased with my whole experience.

Replacing my old garage stool. This is sturdy and well-made. Price was good, too.

I do have to say all-in-all this stool is built to last. It has a great frame. But I want to get down to the nuts and bolts. The seat is garbage. The enter seat is wood with maybe a quarter inch of foam.

It’s not built for long seatings for a work project. It’s great for leaning on with a beer though. Only one leg is adjustable and because of that I have to show the DeWalt emblem on the side of my work bench.

The shelve seems an after thought. It doesn’t fit right and it has cheap plastic corners that break easily. I’ll keep it until my butt says otherwise. I’m all ready looking.

The stool is absolutely awesome!! Larger than I thought it would be, which is great for my tall husband. The material is sturdy and heavy metal, so I expect to get many years of use out of this piece.

It was simple to put together, no more than 10 minutes with the tools supplied. Everyone who has seen it likes it and has asked where we got it from. It is a great addition to my hubby’s tools and tool box.

Awesome stool, tall enough for my work bench. Now my back shouldn’t hurt as much. You could make one for a fraction of the cost however this well built stool is a perfect fit for my shop. The rest is up to you.

Great addition to my garage work bench. One star off for the incorrect height listed for the lowest setting. It’s actually 29. 5″ at it’s lowest which would not allow it to fit under my work bench. However, someone in the comments mentioned the same thing and that they cut off 5″ from the legs.

So, back to HF to buy a heavy duty pipe cutter. Everyone at HF is always so helpful. 4 – 5 turns with the pipe cutter and it was done. I popped on some rubber feet that I had on hand. Now I can sit at my work bench with enough room for legs to go under the desk.

Could not be more pleased with this product.

I have had the Adjustable Shop Stool for a bit over a week now. It lets me do some repetitive work on my radial arm saw without getting my legs and feet tired. I can also now use the radial arm saw table as a work site for smaller projects.

The stool is comfortable and the asustments make it very versatile in my shop! Being able to buy ot at a steep discount made it an even better value to me! The only ‘down’ for me was the assembly. I couldn’t access my ‘third arm and hand’ to make it easier, but was able to get it assembled fairly quickly with not too many foibles.

If you think you need a chair (stool) to do some of your work, I highly recommend this piece of equipment!.

I bought this stool because I liked how it looked, and the only feature it was missing for me was caster wheels, which can be added (as mentioned in other reviews). The way the backrest is secured makes me a bit nervous that it might pop off when I lean back, but that’s the only somewhat negative thing I have to say about it so far.

To reiterate how to both shorten the legs and install the “MySit 4pcs Stem Casters M8x25 with Brake Lock”: You have to first remove the threaded insert from each leg; I tapped on the screwed-in feet with a hammer until I could pull each insert out.

I then used a hacksaw with a 24-tooth blade to cut about 6″ off each leg because I wanted to lower the stool by 3″, and the wheels themselves add about 3″. After that, I just tapped the inserts back in, and screwed in the casters.

Was hoping to get a sturdy stool that would last more than a couple of months. Assembled the stool and discovered the seat is far too small to be stable. The casters are also too small and won’t work for my purposes.

I plan to return it to the local store to get a refund. When trying to use the stool, it was difficult to stay on the small, hard seat and the stool tipped easily. I am an amputee and cannot afford to be falling.

First, this is the cheapest I could find this chair. I really like this company now and will shop again. The chair is strong. No major assembly required. It literally just pushes together and doesn’t come out.

It is tall. I noticed another dewalt chair for a heavier price, don’t do it. This one extends to beat height. Also it has get if you don’t want the wheels. Great product. Great price. The onlyyyy thing I can say bad is the company doesn’t repackage.

You get a big dewalt box. Make sure you are home to get it or something. They give you a very accurate tracking number. Mine was fedex. If your debating it, just get this one. You will not be disappointed.

The instructions were unclear on where the 8 bolts with philips heads vs. the four with hex heads went. Without the instructions stating what was included with the kit, I started with the 12 bolts and soon found out there were two kinds.

I called Rockler HQ and the person could not tell me which went where. He suggested calling the Seattle store (280 miles from here) and someone there came back with the answer. If I would have looked carefully at the large picture on the shipping carton, I would have seen that the philips hold the legs on horizontally and the four hex heads go vertically.

Since I come from a background of technical writing and proofreading others in a company, instructions are never released unless some non-technician (secretary, shipping clerk, etc. ) builds one of the products from only the preliminary instructions to prove them out; and if changes are needed, the instructions go back to the writers.

Also, to get the four legs to all touch the concrete floor I built it on, I had to sit on the small center cap and use my weight as I tightened all the bolts and lock nuts. Once finished, nice chair.

I ordered this shop stool and it was not well packaged at all for shipping, so sometime during the trip, the box had fallen apart, and the delivery carrier had repackaged it into a new box, minus some of the critical parts (like the pneumatic lift!).

Rockler’s customer service was fabulous though and they shipped me a new stool. It was pretty easy to put together, but once assembled, its wobbly! (Not the feet, they are level, but the seat itself).

I am not very big (under 130#) and even for me, it does not feel like a secure seat; it feels like it is going to topple over with me on it. I had read all the other great reviews, which is why I decided to buy this one, but I am disappointed in it.

The thumbs up, it is sturdy and well made. Thumbs down is the back rest only adjusts in and out from the seat but not up or down. Thumbs down is pneumatic seat does not lower enough to accommodate comfortable use with the rockler tables I have purchased.

The picture showed the back rest much higher than it actually goes. If there is another back rest brace with multiple settings please send me two pair as I purchased two stools. that would make me very happy.

Overall, this product was very good value for the money. Postage included, it arrived quickly and proved surprisingly simple to put together. I only really thought about putting the seat, ram and base together, tried the parts out for fit and found it assembled.

The castors required more effort, but nothing to hard. Feels balanced and the cushion is reasonably comfortable. The tray base is very useful for tools, fixings and stuff. My only criticism is the pivot point for the height adjustment arm.

It appears a little basic, with just a thin bolt to keep it in its mounting position. Wouldn’t be hard to replace this part. If you need an adjustable stool on castors to use for the home, garage or workshop, or you want an industrial look item to adapt as a table base or change the cushion covering to fit with your decor, then this seems like a good buy with potential.

You could probably put a wooden seat on it, if you had a old broken stool or just an interesting old piece of wood. Be cautious of the moving part of the ram though, as this will probably remain “lubricated”.

An easy stool to assemble from the kit as delivered, appears robust and has a useful tray in the steel base. On my example one of the crimped-on, domed castor nut-covers came off and needed to be stuck back on (annoying – but purely cosmetic).

Some care needed on sitting down for elderly folk, as the stool can slip from under you due to the 5 very efficient omni-directional castors. Overall: comfortable and useful for work on motorcycle, mower and garden – & other fiddly tasks.

The Roller Seat Stool Is for my husband in the garage. He thinks its great, ease to move around when standing or seating. Handy tray for his tools when working. A great all round tool.

I sent 2 other brands back but love this one. Affordable, built very well, glides easily. I use it in my small kitchen since I cannot stand long due to ankle injuries. Fits nicely in the corner. Adjusts hgher than others also.

Good range for a shortie like me. Someone really thought this one out. Glides easily over my grouted tile floor. Other ones I’ve had stopped dead on the grout causing me to be ejected. Plan to buy another for my laundry room.

It is difficult for “us heavyweights” to find adjustable seats that can support them. This stool is THE BEST ! It rolls easily on the carpet but does not roll away when you are trying to sit. And it supports my weight easily and comfortably and adjusts heights smoothly.

It feels solid at top height. The cushion is well made and comfortable. I highly recommend this stool. It was simple to assemble, delivered in excellent condition in less time than anticipated.

After unboxing it is set it on our level dining room floor and rocked back and forth. After further inspection one leg was almost a1/2” shorter. I almost boxed it to return it and then decided to see what could e done.

I loosened the leg screws and nuts and pulled and pushed, stood on the foot ring and bounced my weight up and down and it seemed to level out and stop rocking, I tightened all the screws and it seems to be fine now.

Well built stool, I would recommend it, hopefully you get one that whoever assembled it took a little care and made sure it doesn’t rock n roll. ??.

The chair cushion was not comfortable and I could not get in a good position where my back did not hurt. I knew it had no wheels, but I did not realize how much I would want it to move around. If you want it solid and stationary, it does a good job at that.

Just a note, these are very tall stools. When doing microscope work, we’ve had to set scopes on books to adjust for the height of the stool. Concerning comfort, this is an excellent stool even after long hours of sitting.

The Sandusky Choral Society uses this chair as an aide for members having disabilities that prevent standing and sitting during performances. The adjustable chair allows them to either sit at an elevated height throughput the concert, or use it as support between numbers.

I bought this chair for a show in Community Theatre that we are rehearsing for. The director put out a call for a chair that look something like this one. The picture he use was from another web-site and was well over $100.

00 dollars and the shipping brought it to over $150. 00. (Which was well over our small budget. ) I purchased this chair for under $90,00 and there was 0 shipping. The Director was delighted with the chair and the Actor who sits in it for a long time, says that it’s really comfortable.

I was looking for kitchen bar stools that I could paint turquoise to match my accent color, and these were the perfect fit. I now have 5 beautiful turquoise stools, and everyone who comes into my kitchen always comments on how cute they are.

I ordered this stools for a High School Anatomy and Physiology class. I hoped the seat would be comfortable for all students regardless of size. My larger young men find he back too close to the seat making the stool uncomfortable.

Got the chair intact and assembled it and good construction sturdy and no complaints on it would like to see one change that the back support piece be larger and have a more defined curve for your back for support.

Just what I was looking for. It came with a set of adjustable legs but I didn’t have to use them because I’m not that tall. Sturdy!!!

The stool is very handy and appears to be very sturdy. Its height range allows it to be used in a number of applications. The lowest setting allows you to work close to the floor. While the upper height is helpful for use at a counter or table.

I like the fact that it is strong and glides so well. I have limited mobility and this helps me get my mopping done around the house.

Perfect for intended purpose, however the cushion is VERY VERY FIRM !!! so long periods of time spend sitting on it may prove difficult. Still a good value for the price and perfect size for intended purpose, easy assembly no issues there.

I”m very satisfied with my purchase. Got it on sale. It will be used in my shop at my bench. I think it will do just fine as I do not need it every day. It seems to roll nicely. If you’re looking for a heavy use daily stool it may not be what you are looking for.

I needed a stool to sit on when taking pictures on my table. I sell on line and have to take a lot of pictures and my back always gives out before I am finished. Now I can sit and take the pictures and I love it.

Bought the Rockler stool for its versatility and stable stance. I can use it at the workbench or making music thanks to the pneumatic adjustable seat and supportive back rest, but the main reason for the purchase was to use as a comfortable stool to play my guitars.

I looked at all the guitar stools on the internet and feature for feature, the Rockler was the best “bang for the buck”. The price was very competitive compared to stools with a name on their seat. It’s not too tall, so easy on and easy off.

The Rockler shop stool with backrest is easily assembled and very comfortable while at the bench. The pneumatic height adjustment is very useful too. Sturdy construction and feel secure sitting on it; light and can move it to different workshop areas.

This is great stool, can be adjusted in height, has a good cushion and its very stable with my 275 lb. weight. I do a lot of intricate woodwork so I need the stability of a fixed base, I don’t want to wander around on wheels.

These stools would probably work fine at a low bar sitting area for a great low price.
