There isn’t a definitive answer to this question as everyone’s needs and budget will be different. However, some good places to start your search for a ring security system include home security stores like ADT or Brinks, online retailers like Amazon, or even big box stores like Target or Walmart.

Very happy with the camera. I bought two and a Ring spotlight camera to cover the front, side and rear of my home following a recent burglary. Easy to install. Just removed old flood lights and wired in Ring devices.
All necessary fixings included. Camera has a useful hook to hang it from the backplate whilst wiring it in. Ring App easy to use and intuitive. Cameras can be linked up to activate all if one is triggered.
I selected different sounds for alerts from each camera so I know immediately which has been triggered. Also like the fact that alerts go to my Apple Watch with a thumbnail image. Handy, if I’ve silenced alerts on iPhone or iPad.
Being able to block out detection of specific areas is useful. My neighbour kept triggering one camera whenever he went into part of his garden near my house. I have reduced the sensitivity of detection to person only but the cameras are still triggered by large birds, flocks of birds and larger animals.
Boiler flue gases also trigger the cameras when they drift past, even though they are some distance away. My milkman must wear a cloak of invisibility because it never seems to pick him up on his early morning delivery! Image quality is good but reading a number plate beyond 10-15m from camera in daylight is difficult and at night reflection from the number plate can make them unreadable.
Siren is not very loud but enough to frighten off unwanted visitors if detected. Also, I would be able to set off sirens on all three cameras together for extra effect. Ability to speak to a visitor also handy.
Was able to thank my neighbour for putting out the bins while we were away!.
Bought 3 of these items. The biggest obstacle was deciding how to make needed revisions from the old rectangular electrical box to the needed 4 inch round electrical box to install these cameras. I had removed existing exterior lights and installed them at the same locations.
2 of the 3 locations were lower 61/2 ft versus the 8 or 9 feet that I would have preferred. Two are now working and I continue to make adjustments in the settings to minimize unnecessary notifications.
Quality of pictures and videos (night and day) are better than I expected. Bright lights and sounds are very good. Parts included for installation are good and once you resolve the electrical box issue, installation is a breeze.
Given the price of these cameras, why not include a round electrical box, or make them available at the point of sale? My remaining issue that I need to call RING about is that for one camera, I have not been able to fully install due to error message in not being able to join the RING network.
I am not doing anything differently that I did for the first 2 cameras installed and I have tried about 5 times now. Price was good given these were on sale so overall, I am pleased; just a bit frustrated.
After a couple of recent break-ins in our neighborhood I bought two of these Ring wired cam lights to replace the basic motion detection lights previously installed. Installation was relatively easy with basic electrical knowledge, i.
e. ability to connect wires same as they powered the previous light fixture with power turned off. Optioning the sensitivity settings and defining the areas to be monitored were also easily done with the Ring app.
Wish I could have installed one of them lower above our side entry garage, but it needed to be up around 15’ where the old fixture was. As such it would be difficult to see someone’s face in the videos, but you still get a warning and video record of someone, or car, entering the surveillance zone.
Fortunately, I have two other battery operated Ring cameras at my front door and lower level back door that will show faces of anyone approaching. Ring app works well and I can see all four cameras on one screen and can click on any one of them for video history.
However, haven’t yet subscribed to the Ring Protect service since I’m still within the free 30 day trial period. My understanding is that $100 per year would cover all four of my cameras. I also have a whole house monitored security system.

Reviews From Real Customers
I’ve had Ring home security for about 6 months. I’ve had traditional alarm systems for 40 years and Ring has more features, and communicates with your phone. No need for monthly fee monitoring. I love the flood monitoring.
Didn’t want cameras in my house so I didn’t opt for those. I wish it had a glass break sensors to help sense intruders when you are home. It is very easy to set up. Each device can be programmed individually.
One little thing I would like to see is zero second delay when you open the door and the alarm goes off. It is set to 3ish seconds and can’t be changed. I also wish the volume of the keypad when the door is opened could be louder so if we are sleeping and someone comes in, we would hear them.
I quite like the system and looking forward to these programmable updates in the future!.
Product is ok, very basic vs many I have had before but the app is where you will us it most which works well. Ring advised us on what to buy and confirmed what our month cost would be, as we have a detached workshop, our needs were unique.
We ended up needing more equipment than recommended as the advise left holes in the security but there was nothing we could do, the disadvantage of not having a professional come to the house for the recommendations.
The biggest issue was when we went to set up monitoring we were told we would have to pay twice the price because of the detached workshop, Ring acknowledged the rep on the initial consult told us we wouldn’t but said they were wrong.
Offered to extend the free trial on half of the cost but nothing else. I elected to go with Ring based on the monthly being lower that the competition as the equipment was going to be more. Now the equipment was substantially more and the monthly amount will be more, and now that I have already installed the system Ring will not own the problem.
Every conversation is just looking for new way to say I know we messed up, but no.
Sounded all great but had alot of issues with the equipment. And support was very frustrating Beal with. I would have to call them half dozen times and be told mistruths. Nobody could come up with a real description and they won’t let you talk to a manager.
We armed the system and it falsed alarmed and they couldn’t figure it out. It took ten phone calls and having to threaten legal action to speak with manager. Just ridiculous.
nbspThe perfect starter kit for condos apartments or small homes up to 1000 square feet. Protect 1 window or door add motion detection to 1 hallway or room and control it all from the Ring app. Product HighlightsRealTime Notifications Receive notifications.
Simple to set up using the app which is generally very user-friendly. Adhesive tape pre-applied to the motion sensor wasn’t strong enough for corner mounting but easily solved with some better double sided tape I had already.
All worked as it should apart from an intermittent issue with the countdown delay on re-entry. Thought it may be a faulty base-station or keypad but looking on the internet seems to be a common issue.
JL were excellent around arranging an exchange so we’ll see if I get the same problem (the system is still perfectly useable, you just don’t get an audible reminder to switch the alarm off when you open the front (or primary) door.
) Integrates very well with external Ring cameras (and doorbells I believe although I don’t have one). Now I just need to decide whether to pay for a Ring subscription for additional usability (30 day free trial included).
Pros: Fantastic piece of kit for the price point of purchase during Black Friday. Highly recommend if you can get a transformer and hardwire the doorbell. Believe it or not you probably already have a transformer lying around the house by way of a blue with a two wire cable (the sort that plugs into your AA battery recharger).
Many people have these lying around that go into the recycling bin. I’m using a 12V one that I’ve connected to a 2 wire doorbell long cable that you can pick up for cheap from most hardware stores that slow into the back of my Ring 2 doorbell.
Such fun learning how to hardwire this device and I was astounded at how only an output of 12V is enough for the Ring 2 to remain hardwired for life. Reeeesult!!The doorbell 2 gave a much better signal and output than the doorbell 3 and 3plus when viewed on my Amazon Echo Show.
Had a lot of fun setting this up! Cons: If only this version of the ring doorbell had a removable battery. Much more stable in terms of signal than the 3 or 3plus and feels like a more stable construct unlike the plastic feel of the 3 and 3plus.
Pros: Build quality looks good and relatively easy to set up. Can change the sound of the chime. Cons: Pretty useless as an actual doorbell as it only chimes once when the Ring Doorbell is pressed and will not chime again until the Ring Doorbell resets.
Visitors should be able to press the Ring Doorbell multiple times in succession and the Chime should sound each time. Guests think our doorbell is broken and you have to explain that they have to wait at least a minute before they can press it again.
Major design flaw that pretty much defeats the main purpose of the devise.

I rate this system good, but not great. I had purchased, installed, and used a Simplisafe system at my previous residence for a couple years, so I have a good reference for comparison, as this system is a pretty close competitor in style and price point.
1. Affordability: Ring wins this one. I would say this and the Simplisafe system, when purchased during promotions or sales, seem to be close enough in price for the initial purchase that I didn’t see a big difference there.
The simplisafe system does provide the ability to create a more custom set of sensors in the initial purchase and get better pricing with the initial purchase, whereas Ring pretty much as set bundles, and then you have to pay normal pricing for any other items a la carte.
However, post-purchase, if you have the subscription with Ring, you get a nice discount on additional accessories, which is much better than Simplisafe, which gives pretty much zero price breaks outside of when purchasing a new system with base station.
Ring wins for sure when paying for monitoring; their monthly rate is just notably less expensive. Hopefully it’s as good! 2. Completeness: Simplisafe by a small margin. The Simplisafe system has sensors that do not exist with ring, such as the glass break sensor, which was a bit disappointing.
However, the Ring system has a very nice retrofit kit that allows tying in existing wired sensors; that was a big part of why I decided to give Ring a try. It’s overpriced for what it is, but I did get the discount for having a paid Ring subscription set up before buying it, which helped a bit.
It was very easy to install and get working, and was a much better solution than adding a bunch of wireless sensors to doors and windows that already had wired sensors integrated in the frames. The reason I still say Simplisafe wins is due to the missing specialized security sensors that almost any other security system includes.
4. Interoperability: Ring wins this one, hands-down. Their app is better and they have better compatibility with 3rd party vendors. Simplisafe is too closed. 5. Usability: Tie. Simplisafe has a better keypad.
It’s antiquated in some ways with its throwback style display, but at least it has a display. The ring 2nd gen keypad has no indicators on it whatsoever. Additionally, the functionality, requiring the input of a PIN to change from any mode to any mode, is a bit silly.
The Simplisafe system only requires a PIN to switch from an armed mode to a disarmed mode. I shouldn’t need a PIN to switch from disarmed to an armed state. I also should be able to glance at the keypad, or at worst, press a button on it, to get feedback as to what mode the system is on.
The base station is the only thing with an indicator, and I don’t keep the base station in a visible location; I don’t consider it a fashion statement in my home. Additionally, the base station is the only place where there is a speaker for letting me know the system is counting down.
This is also frustrating, as I have had a couple of false alarms due to not realizing the system was counting down because I simply couldn’t hear it. All that said, Simplisafe’s app is not as feature-rich as the Ring app, so Ring maintains a tie in this category for that reason alone.
I really wish Ring would make the keypad a little more usable, though. So, while Ring won in a head-to-head with Simplisafe from my perspective, it still has room to improve. It needs a more complete set of sensors akin to that offered by Simplisafe, and they still have a good bit of work to do on the camera software motion detection, as well as giving me the ability to set more specific customizations for recording behavior.
Looking at the packaging and what needs to be installed seemed intimidating at first, but really the only time consuming aspect of this entire install was tweaking the settings afterwards to your liking.
Setting up the base was a breeze, plug in, connect to the network, then the rest of the setup will guide you on each component that came included with your kit. For each component it was, pull the battery tab, place the sensor (with directions), and test.
rinse, repeat. Shared users will need to be added with their own unique code. If you have a Z-wave lock, specifically a schlage, you can even add that to your Ring Alarm and have the same codes sync up (unlock door with code, disarm system).
You can even assign guess access to your door and alarm without guests having access to your settings. If you had other z-wave devices you want Ring to monitor, you will need to unenroll them from their previous hub to the Ring Alarm.
We did that for our Fire Alarms and Water Sensors. It’s nice to hear and get notifications if doors open, and if you have Alexa, s/he can even show you the doorbell and arm your system without having to open the app.
If there is a downside, there are two, but not deal breakers: – Set Schedule for arming/disarming the system – Ability to silence the “Arm/Disarm” voice during quiet hours Overall, this was an excellent investment, and for 100 bucks a year (or 10 per month), having all the components covered is worth the added security.
Speaking of, when you enroll in the plus program, you have the option to have professional monitoring or self monitoring. You can switch back and forth when needed. Professional will get a hold of you if an alarm goes off and act as a proxy.
I’ve always wanted an alarm system and this was a free installation with the tech support program. It’s awesome! You can pay extra to have it monitored or pay a small amount to preserve video. I highly recommend the video (at a minimum) as you won’t be able to see who was around unless you see the video live.
The 24/7 monitoring is optional. If you don’t get it you still have all the features of the system without someone automatically calling the police/fire if it goes off. The alarm will still go off and the intruder will have no idea if it’s monitored or not.
It’s an added security feature that isn’t very expensive. This is a great system. I live in a very safe neighborhood, but nonetheless, I sleep much better at night with this installed.
A smarter way to keep an eye on your home, this Ring Alarm Security Kit comes with everything you need to get started — a base station, keypad, six contact sensors, motion detector, and range extender.
Just download the companion app on your smartphone and you’ll receive mobile alerts when doors or windows are opened. From Ring.
I am very happy with this product. It works awesome and was very easy to install. I now go to sleep at night knowing every sensor, doors and windows are working unlike my old ADT system. With ADT we had know way of knowing if system was working.
Also Rings alarm is very loud when we tested it! Love this product and also love Ring monitoring price!.
I was skeptical about buying this system especially since the monthly monitoring is so cheap. However I am very pleased with this security system. It was easy to install and connects to my Alexa. It has features that detect the sound of glass breaking or someone knocking on my door.
It also communicates with my outdoor cameras. I definitely recommend!.
Build quality is good. Sensor range (z-wave) is poor, less than 10meters in my situation, even using the range extender. No diagnostic tools in Ring app to debug. Ring shills the monthly subscription shamelessly in the app.

I bought this from BB&B because it was in stock. I was surprised to find it here as it did not seem to be the demographic of the store. When the package arrived, it appears to be the case. The package was covered in dirty silt as if sitting in a warehouse forever.
Upon inclusion into the ZWave network, the firmware reports as ancient; v1. 18. Which isn’t a huge deal if you are in the Ring ecosystem and can update it. But I’m not. So that’s unfortunate it sat for so long.
I am a huge fan of the ring security system. The monthly cost is low and the customer service is outstanding! You set how many alarms you have in your home. No getting charged a arm and a leg for adding more equipment.
Continue to add more and the monthly charge remains the same. This unit allows to have multiple key pads in the house.
Great motion sensor. Does what it’s suppose to and you can customize the settings in the app like sensitivity level and notifications. I was surprised on how far it detects motion. I tested it out when I installed it and it gets about 15 feet almost 20 feet away.
I saw a few people complained about its motion distance detection i wonder if there’s was faulty. I really liked that the sensor has a bracket that mounts to the wall with screws or sticky adhesive and the adhesive has 2 strips on the back for mounting on a wall flat and 2 strips one on each corner for easy mounting on the corner of a wall.
Also, since the bracket is what is mounted you can slide the motion detector on or off to easily change batteries or ect.
So far I am very happy, it perform well. It looks and feel much better than 1st generation and it works with base station 1st generation. I have put this on the corner of the room and the only issue I have is that is not very responsive i haven’t checked to compare with ring motion 1st generation, or maybe since base station is on 1st floor and this on second and is kind of far but if you get near it trigger and i have set it to high sensitivity, and my internet is good so not sure who to blame.
Loved the compact of this add-on motion detector for my Ring system. Would be better if it could turn off when Ring system is set to DISARM. Somehow it is still active, just the notification is turned off.
Will wait to see how the battery live. hope it will last at least a year.

Great Ring customer support. Cons: Design of the keypad looks cheapish. Door motion sensors a bit tricky to put up.

This is a good product and easy to set up but it might not work for all windows. I have very little space on the side of my window for the contact and I have tilt in windows for cleaning. I installed these and then found out that as soon as we tilt the windows in to clean them, it will rip out the contact.
The sensor is on the window itself but there is no way for me to avoid this. So what I’ll have to do is have extra two side tape so that when it’s ripped off the side, we can clean the windows, put them back in, and then reinstall the contacts.
It’s a pain but we only do that sort of cleaning in the fall and spring so twice a year.
I already have the doorbell 2 and two Floodlight Cameras which works perfectly. I have been reviewing the capabilities of this system carefully to ensure it meets all my expectations. If you already bought it why compare the Ring system with other companies.
You get what you pay for now. If not happy go back to other companies and pay their high costs plus monthly monitoring. I know those costs very well.

This product can not be mounted upside down. however quality and design are very good. the way this device hardware is gets it a bonus star but the other drawbacks make it so that i cant give this more than a 2/5.
Ring in its essence is a company that requires you to pay for a service that you can use for free with so many competitors. the door bell camera was great, however as i expanded into the other ring items, i realized their way of doing things is awful and expensive in the long run.
I will NOT be renewing my subscription with them going forward and will be looking to liquidate all the hardware i have. the first major issue is the cost of the membership to simply use the service.
they have bundled a million little things together which in theory work great if you have their base station, alarm, door sensors, motion sensors, cameras, etc. but if you want to just have a camera system then this is NOT the item you want to be looking at.
there is a lot of settings in the ring app that are very frustrating to use and the customer service is terrible. they also use cheap predatory tactics to keep you spending money. for example, i have multiple ring cameras and the others allow you to flip the video.
this camera does NOT allow you to flip the video. if its not sitting up right, then you need to purchase a bracket that lets you mount it upside down. why not just be able to flip the video like with all the other ring products? the camera video quality is pretty good, and captures a good chunk with the lens it has.
the construction is a sleek design and looks very nice and aesthetically pleasing. However i want an option to record for longer durations or also to be able to view the camera at all times. this is not a feature, the camera will only record when you go to view it or when there is motion.
i understand the reason why this is but i still want the option for that, i am paying for a premium service afterall.
The fitting and setting of the camera appears difficult at first but a little perseverance will get you started. Consider siting very carefully as so that the field of views is what you require and access to the rechargeable battery is easy enough: think of the winter months when you have to stand outside maybe on ladder! Investment in a spare battery is definitely worthwhile.
You must also consider the strength of the Wi-Fi signal available at the site. Download speed is relatively unimportant but upload speed must be well above 3-4 mbps. Telephone support from their Help Desk is very efficient and staffed by experienced Technicians.
I found this easy to set up and link with the home wireless broadband. It is in the corner of the kitchen providing a wide angle view of the room. Obviously, before fixing into place you need to know the wireless signal is sufficient and the camera covers the required area.
I used a wireless strength app freely available from Google Play Store to check this. Our router is the standard one provided by our broadband company and is several rooms away from the camera. Battery power seems good and we seem to be using about 2% a week.
Picture quality is excellent both day and night. The Ring App is not quite as intuitive as I would like but that’s probably just me. There is maybe half a second delay between the camera detecting movement and receiving an alert.
You can watch in ‘live view’ and again there seems to be perhaps half to one second delay. I am currently benefiting from the free month of Ring Protect. I am not quite sure at this stage whether I will take up a subscription.
Price and delivery from John Lewis was very good. I really like the standard 2 year guarantee provided by them.
Watch over what’s important at home with Ring’s first indoor/outdoor camera with nonstop power. Stick Up Cam wired sends alerts to your phone, tablet and PC whenever motion is detected, and it lets you see, hear and speak to people on camera from anywhere.
You can place Stick Up Cam wired almost anywhere. Put it on a flat surface and move it when you need to, or mount it on a wall for a more permanent solution.
Nice viewing angle, easy to set up and so far reliable. The only issue seems to be that you will need a good internet speed as the 1080 requires more bandwidth. As a result when I am out and about in a low internet speed area it takes forever to connect if it connects at.
Since installing the Ring doorbell and stick up camera my husband and I feel more secure and in control of the comings and goings of our home. The install was fairly easy for both devices. It’s helped in also being able to be more in touch with what’s happening in our community.

10 Degree or colder and Ring Doorbell will not work. I called Ring Doorbell and they said their batteries do not work in the cold and they refuse to do anything to address the problem. They tell you your just out of luck wait until the temperature warms up and the Ring Doorbell should work again.
Also, the battery should charge when wired to your old doorbell, but it doesn’t. Ring doorbell says you must bring the battery inside and charge the battery because it won’t charge if hard wired to your existing doorbell.
What a poorly designed product. Ring Doorbell should be held accountable for selling a known defective and poor product that they know will not work if it gets cold. They should not be allowed to sell the product in any of the states listed above since they know the product will not work when it gets cold.
Ring Doorbell are criminals and need to be held accountable for selling products that they know will not work.

So far it has satisfied my expectations. Best buy service was nice.

These contact sensors are amazingly easy to install. I installed all of mine using the supplied double-stick tape. The two halves merely have to be installed within 1/2 inch of each other. All 13 of the contact sensors I installed are working perfectly.

I needed these to add on to my Ring system. Am-xx-n didn’t have them in stock. I ordered them from Best Buy and they arrived in 4 days. The sensors were easy to install after watching the Ring app’s videos and reading helpful reviews on the online store site.
The Ring app recognized the sensors and the sensors have been working. Only issue is not being able to reposition the sensor once to place them. The sticky tape is permanent. Be sure to try to place them right to allow room for sliding off the base when you need to replace the batteries for the sensor.
These Contact sensors are very flaky, and keep intermittently going off on Tamper Fault. Some times waking me up, and goingoff in the middle of the night! This is the fourth one arleady that is defective out of fourteen devices.
It makes the whole alarm system very unreliable. Yes, I did go through the “Resolving a Tampered Contact Sensor 2nd Generation” tutorial.
Have had this and entire system for 1 year, it works flawlessly. The battery on these sensors is amazing. I have yet to charge or change any batteries. For $10 bucks a month you get professional monitoring and cloud storage for your ring cameras.
Make sure you set it up according to the app and should have no issues.
There are many different types of ring security systems on the market, and the best place to buy one depends on your specific needs and budget. If you need a basic system to deter burglars and protect your home, then a home security store or online retailer may be the best place to buy a ring security system.
However, if you need a more sophisticated system with features like motion detectors and remote monitoring, then a professional security company may be the better option. Ultimately, the best place to buy a ring security system is the one that can provide you with the products and services that you need at a price you can afford.
