A Janome sewing machine is a great machine for quilting. It has a lot of features that make quilting easier, such as a built-in needle threader, a wide variety of stitches, and a durable build. It’s also relatively affordable, which is important for quilters who often have to purchase a lot of fabric and other materials.
20 Best Janome Sewing Machine For Quilting
1. Janome Memory Craft 6650 Sewing and Quilting Machine
The Memory Craft 6650 has everything to help sewists complete projects even faster. The 10″ All-Metal Seamless Flatbed provides the perfect work space for projects large and small, and with the speed and precision the Mc6650 offers, Janome is brining professional power into the project makers home.
The Start/Stop button provides fingertip control of stitching. And the favorite stitch setting default means when you turn the machine on, your favorite settings are ready to go.
Recently purchased the Memory Craft 6650 and haven’t been disappointed yet. I’m just getting my feet wet with the free motion settings but it is very nice. I’ve watched many videos, put out by Janome and others who are giving their thoughts on the machine, and so far haven’t needed much help in figuring out how to use it.
I’ve made 4 quilt since I purchased because I love it so much haha. I constantly think about going and working on a project. Needle up down function is great for quilting, I also thoroughly enjoy the thread cutting option and the multiple ways to use (foot pedal, button, or lever option) makes me think this would be a good machine for many people in all walks of life.
THIS replaces my 30 year old Baby Lock. So much has changed!! We are still getting acquainted, but so far the instruction guide has been very helpful. My advice to others is to watch you tube videos and keep the guide handy.
My favourite changes so far inclde the automatic thread clipper and the variable position needle. I was pleasantly surprised that both the extension table and quilting accessories were included.
I truly love this machine. I originally ordered the Janome MC6550P. For whatever reason the company sent me a free upgraded model the MC6700. This is the best machine I have ever used. The accufeed system is amazing.
It’s construction is solid and the operation is flawless. The stitches are beautiful and constant. It’s so easy to use all of the decorative stitches. I will never own another sewing machine. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Elizabeth.
The stitch quality of the Skyline S3 is excellent and is able to speed up to 820 stitches per minute in a smooth and peaceful operation. Navigation through all of these choices is simple using the backlit LCD screen.
I Absolutely Love The Skyline S3! Smooth, accurate and quiet. I’m loving the auto tension. Can’t wait to do some free motion quilting! No need for scissors or thread snips! Lots of options for cutting your thread.
Haven’t done it yet but you can also run this machine without a foot pedal. So far so good! Being I’ve owned a Kenmore two times prior and have had no issues I’m not expecting any from this one either! A lot of people don’t realize Janome is the manufacturer of Kenmore sewing machines.
If I’m not mistaken they’re also the manufacturer of Necchi ???? (even though I started sewing at 4 I took sewing class all through Junior high and high school and these are the machines that were used in class.
Solid construction!). I’ve never had a problem with any of my sewing machines. I’m very happy with my purchase!.
Still getting used to computerized machine after 47 years of Sears mechanical. So far so good. Like the auto cut, auto stop in down position, auto tack at end of seam but not the auto tack at start of seam.
Perhaps I still need to learn how to use it because it bunches the fabric at the start. Variable foot pedal speed is nice. Larger table space is nice. Other reviews mentioned bobbin problems but once I got the threading path correct it was fine.
The needle threader is harder to use than just threading the needle yourself. Haven’t used the buttonholer or special stitches yet but they seem easy to use. Very happy I made the upgrade!.
This was my first Janome sewing machine. (My mom has had a Janome sewing/embroidery machine for years. ) This was replacing another sewing machine that was from a different company. This is an awesome sewing machine! I am working with a quality sewing machine.
I am still learning how to work the threader consistently (correctly). I got this machine on sale, and I jumped when I saw the great price. It is very easy to learn, and work with. I have only had it about two weeks, and I am trying out the different feet and stitches.
I consistently get quality stitches. I was not use to a sewing machine having that have the ability to go off like a race car (regarding its speed). I wish it had more decorative stitches, but that is minor compared to all the great features this sewing machine has.

The stitch quality is excellent at speeds of up to 820spm whilst the special built-in features will help you cope with almost any sewing challenge. Pivot on corners with the needle up/down feature, control the maximum sewing speed for precision work, trim off threads with the built-in automatic thread cutter, thread the needle automatically – everything you need to make your sewing easier.
I am absolutely thrilled with my new Janome machine. I am an enthusiastic beginning quilter and have already made several quilt tops and done stitch-in-the ditch and free motion quilting. I have only played with scraps to try out the different stitches, but am looking forward to adding a decorative touch to my upcoming placemat project.
My favorite features of this machine are: the adjustable speed control, automatic thread cutter, alphabet, and wider throat.
Hello Shelley, Just writing to let you know that I’m very happy to have purchased my Janome Skyline S3 from you. It’s during Melbourne 6th lockdown. All retail stores were closed. I couldn’t test drive any machine in store.
So I researched extensively online. I read the superb detailed descriptions and other ins and outs about this machine and other models. I chose the Janome S3 over others as this will be my 1st and last machine.
It’s not cheap by any means but it covers all the requirements I need now and hopefully to more advance sewing in the future. Buying online was easy and considering the lockdown, delivery was as scheduled.
Thank you Shelley and looking forward to sewing some of your projects. Vivian Webb Melbourne 2021.

make them a reality with this feature-loaded machine! A variety of easy-to-use and professional features come together to help you meet your sewing needs. Whether you’re creating an intricate quilt or just hemming a pair of pants, this essential machine makes your work a breeze.
I purchased this for sewing lightweight cloth. The reason for this particular model was the multiple stitches. I didnt realize how wide this machine could sew until I sampled some of the stitches. The wide 7 mil stitch makes them stand out.
The machine is very quiet. I wound a bobbin first thing out. That was a complete success. However I forgot to remove the thread from the spring tension and threaded the machine and it sewed perfect except I notice it pulled tight when I went to removed it from the machine.
Upon investigation I noticed the misthreading and threaded it correctly. It sewed perfect again and no tight pull out from the machine. This machine doesnt have a pressure foot pressure adjustment. The light on the machine is very bright and clear.
The extension table is a very nice size. I didnt think I would use it but Im positive that will come in handy. The TS200Q has a small foot print for a full sized machine. All these machines look like they are made of the same materials but after receiving and using this machine, there is a big difference.
My other sewing machines were a riccar mechanical and a brother pacesetter ult2001. This machine is in between the two and will replace them nicely. The Riccar being mechanical was simple the brother is much morecomplicated – the Janome is simply easy to achieve the same results as both my old machines.
The Janome doesnt have the built in scissors but I wont miss it- the manual thread cutter on the Janome is super sharp and convenient for my type of sewing.
Initially need to admit that I haven’t been able to jump into sewing and use my new machine due to current commitments I have, HOWEVER I cannot wait to do so!!! AM SO excited about this machine and it’s capabilities to sew all kinds of fabrics from sheer to heavy duty, easy to difficult! Am trying to read all instructions first so that will not mess up.
My first project is not necessarily an easy one as I need to complete a bean bag type chair for stuffed animals but it is out of minky fabric. This killed my previous machine play another one so want to move cautiously.
However I believe that it will NOT be a problem with this new machine!.
This machine does NOT have a 1. 0A amp motor. It has half that- 0. 5A amps. To say that I am disappointed to have paid nearly $400 for a machine that does what the average <$200 does would be the understatement of the year.
Mine has HD-3000BE on the front of the machine, yet the label on the back of the machine says “753LE” and 0. 5A amps. I bought what I thought was a heavy duty machine. I am disappointed by this overpriced and underpowered model.
So if you’ve got money to burn and all you’re doing is masks- go for it. But if you want something that’s going to sew thin leather, vinyl, and multiple layers of denim- forget it. This is not going to do it.

The Janome 4120QDC-T – A Quilting Powerhouse in A Compact, Portable Design!.
This is my first Janome sewing machine, so some features I am still unfamiliar with. The machine runs smooth with even stitches especially over thick seams. Although I do not have a DVD player to view the accompanying disk, the instruction book is quite comprehensive.
I had difficulty removing the screws to lift off the plate to clean the bobbin casing–that has been my only frustration. I’m impressed with the thread cutter and needle threader and the overall operation of the machine.
The 1st and a major problem is the stitch card. Who would put the stitches on a card that just sticks up on top of the machine. It’s only held on by a little Holder thing. It constantly falls off but when it’s there it’s in the way.
It keeps falling off and getting lost. I hate using this machine. It also doesn’t have a full bed. It cuts off right behind the stitching so there’s no support for your project. I’d love to be embroidering some towels right now but my card has disappeared again.
I’m sure it’s in the UFOs on my table. Up until now I loved Janome. My last machine was a janome and I loved it. This is a design disaster.
I’m disappointed so far. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to use it since we’ve been sort of busy with the hurricane and all but I expected more from Janome. My last one was the 5100 and it was a great machine until I wore it out.
This time I wanted to upgrade a little. The decorative stitches are a real let down. That’s something I wanted. I didn’t have to have a lot they just had to look good. For things like towels. The stitches are made from the bottom on this one.
I can’t see them until I finish sewing. And some of them come out looking nothing like they’re supposed to. My old 5100 makes them better. And why did they put the stitches card hanging off the back like an after thought.
I really feel for the lady who has children that think it’s something to play with. I wish I knew how to show you a picture of what some of the stitches come out looking like. The I also hate that hate that half the machine bed is missing.
Why would they remove the back half of the bed? I know it came with an extension, but you don’t always need all that room for everything.
Offering 12 built-in stitches, the Janome 2212 lets you unleash your creativity in your free time. Offering dial pattern selection and stitch length and breadth adjustment, this Janome sewing machine makes stitching a simple task.
The free arm and drop feed features of this sewing machine offer versatility for various sewing types. Offering 860spm speed, this Janome sewing machine offers faster and neat stitching. The push-pull bobbin winder of this sewing machine makes thread winding convenient and easy.
The snap-on presser feet and built-in thread cutter of the Janome 2212 offer easy operation.
I used a relative’s Janome sewing machine and really liked it. I ordered mine on Walmart online because they had the most variety to compare. This machine is very easy to use just pay attention to how to thread it correctly.
The instruction booklet is very helpful for all the different functions. I use it for mending and simple alterations.
I am very pleased with my purchase. Runs very quietly and smoothly. So far I have only hooked it up to make sure it worked and check the stitching but unless something unforeseen should appear(which I do not think will happen) I am very pleased.
I am looking forward to spending a great deal of time enjoying the use of the machine. It is not a high dollar machine but it is a good machine. A lot of people think that the more expensive the machine is; the better they will be able to sew but that is a fool’s dream.
I learned to sew on an old treadle machine (and wish I still had it) and while the new machines can make a lot of pretty designs, they cannot make a seamstress out of someone. Either you can sew or you can’t.
The designs the machines make cannot teach you to cut and follow a pattern or know how to join the pieces of fabric. You need a knowledgeable seamstress to teach someone how to truly sew. So, while the top line machines are fun; if you really want to sew find someone to teach you before investing in an expensive machine.
Despite having this sent to an old address this sewing machine is a dream! Solid that you can feel with every touch and every function. This is a real work horse for performing straight forward non-fancy stitching jobs.
Easy to use. Glad I finally chose a smaller non-digital machine so I can focus on actual sewing instead of on how to use and repair a smart sewing machine!.
This is a wonderful machine. Im using this on my quilt frame since all I needed was a straight stitcher. Works great! I purchased a stitch controller to use it in the frame but if need be I can use it normally.
Very heavy duty. Highly recommend if youre just looking for a good sturdy machine with no fancy stitches.
I received the Janome 1600P in great shape. I am pleased with the machine and found it works great for normal stitching, however I think I may have bit off more than I can chew when using this machine for free arm.
I need much more practice and patience to master my quilting projects. mostly patience. If you have suggestions, I am open to them.
I have used an old Singer from 1930 (inherited) that I hand crank. And finally I upgraded to something electric. I make a quilt every couple of years so all of my stitching is in little short straight bursts.
But, I am getting older and I wanted something to make everything easier. I love that it is almost identical to a Singer in the bobbin, the feet, and the controls. I tried a Bullet Bobbin machine and just couldn’t get use to it.
I somehow like the spooling bobbin method. Well. I do love my Singer for nostalgic reasons, but to get things going fast, this 1600 is great. And it easily mounts to a Grace quilting table to make the final product easier.
The only negative is that the thing comes coated in oil. I have to wash up after every use because everything is coated in oil. I am sure that will clear up in time.
The Janome Sewist 721 is a powerful and easy-to-use mechanical sewing machine. The threading is carried out without difficulty thanks to the automatic needle threader. The width and length of the stitch are just as easy to adjust as any other machine, and with the adjustable pressure of the presser foot, you can sew different materials easily! This mechanical sewing machine also has horizontal rotary hook system, or ‘top loading’ bobbin holder, the standard for all modern sewing machines.
Snap-on presser feet are easy to change, easily available, and easily stow in the accessories storage arm. The built-in stitch selection offers everyday stitches including stretch stitches and a 4-step buttonhole.
Very well made machine. Price is worth it. This machine is not only for beginners but advance sewist. My mother who has sewn for more that 50 yrs just bought this one and loves the quality and strength.
What I love about his machine is that is prefect for beginners and as you advance you can still grow with it! Walmart was awesome shipping and delivering it! Thanks Walmart!.
This is the perfect machine for me. I am not a beginner, but haven’t sewn for a while, so wanted a machine that would behave similarly to my previous one (now 40 years old. ), but also give me more options eg stretch stitches.
And that is what I have got! Useful handbook too; easy to use and logical. Nothing too complicated but will see me through the next 40 years of sewing I hope!.
Smooth, quiet machine. Easy to use, good lighting, easy to thread. A solid, mechanical machine that is up there with the one I bought in 1979 (and am still using. ) Testament to the quality and longevity of mechanical sewing machines.
Very happy with the product, basic, simple, has what you need for basic sewing without all the bells and whistles at a great price. Great workhorse. It is a good companion with my Janome Computerised Sewing Machine.

This machine is so great! It sews through anything. I love free motion quilting with it and it’s so quick. I have a much more expensive machine with all sorts of fancy features and I use this one more.
I do wish you could drop the feed dogs but I just throw a silicone slider on it to cover them while I do free motion. This machine is great! I’m so happy I bought it.
If you love to make quilts this is your machine. It is easy to thread. I have been using all purpose thread by Coats and Clark to piece with and have no problems at all. I have been sewing for years but never before have I had a machine handle like this one! The pressure foot does all the work for you.
There is no clunking of fabric into the needle hole everything just glides along. I highly recommend this machine!.

This is the first computerised sewing machine I’ve had. It’s a great sewing machine, easy to use and understand. The instruction book is also easy to follow. I received a cd with the machine which gave basic instructions but I’ve only just watched this 2 weeks on from purchase.
It was still helpful as there were a couple of tips I picked up. I’ve already made 6 cushion covers and a sweatshirt with it and plan a lot more.
Great sewing machine, very happy with this purchase. Purchased online and was able to use my gift cards which helped. I am so glad that Myer have a third party supplier for sewing machines. I purchased my first ever sewing machine from Myer back in 2009 when they had a sewing department and now I have purchased my second.
The supplier personally delivered my sewing machine on a Sunday which saved the hassle of couriers and I was so impressed when they called as said they could deliver within 30 minutes which they did.
Took me quite a while to decide which machine to get as was upgrading from my older Janome. Am delighted with my new machine, it has so many features and as I had a Janome before was easy to get used too.
Fabulous service and it arrived less than 24 hours after purchase.
Be the best at the next quilting bee with the Janome MOD-100Q computerized sewing machine. This taskmaster takes on more than just quilting–clothing creations, craft projects, and more are made easy with cutting-edge technology and convenient features.
A backlit display with easy navigation buttons makes choosing from the 100 built-in stitches a breeze! From Janome.
I bought this machine based on the recomendation “machine person” in store over the Juki I was looking at. She said it would be great for piecing/quilting, making bags ect. If you want to use a high loft batting in your quilts this machine struggles to get through it.
I diligently clean my machine per manufacturer recommendations. This machine is already making “off” noises, getting fussy about tension, and overall not doing well at my sewing pace. This machine would be great for basic sewing, but not for someone that is sewing all the time.
I will also mention in the manufacturer warranty that the warranty is not valid if the machine is used for making items to sell.
I stressed searching for the perfect quilter in my price range. I researched reviews and features. About 80% of what I do on my machine is quilting and this checked off my must-haves. I thought. The extension table is useless and that was one of the selling points for me and something I had to have.
So this extension table. You flip the legs down and slide it up to the machine. The legs don’t stay up. The table doesn’t stay in place. There is nothing keeping it in place. It moves around and the legs fall down out from under it.
I can’t tell you how disappointed I am. If the extension table is one of the things you really need then I absolutely wouldn’t purhcase this machine.
Style follows substance in this well equipped & intuitively designed Janome 4120QDC-B, with sturdy construction and stable feeding. Loaded with useful features to take your sewing & quilting to the next level, you get 120 stitches, twin-needle functionality, superior editing and mirror stitching – as just a few of the cutting-edge features of this special machine.
Your new Janome 4120QDC-B has the power, precision & convenience that you need to realize your creative potential.
Love this machine. I’ve had it about a month and everything is so easy to do now. Doesnt even feel like the motor is working hard when I sew through several layers of vinyl, denim, or webbing. Serious upgrade from all the hand-me-down Singers that I’ve been using.
I would consider it an intermediate level machine for sewing of all sorts.
Computerized free arm sewing machine with patented AcuFeed Flex technology. Features 170 stitches including 10 buttonholes and 1 font. 11inch to the right of the needle, LCD screen with easy navigation buttons, 1,000 stitches per minute, 5 LED lamps in three locations, automatic thread cutter, built-in one hand needle threader, easy to change stitch plate, straight stitch needle plate with right needle position for 1⁄4inch seam foot, easy set bobbin, easy bobbin winder, knee lifter, die cast aluminum body.
Love my new machine. Stitch quality is excellent. Free motion quilting is a dream with the large bed. Visibility and lighting are perfect. Mr. Vac & Mrs. Sew are always so helpful and ensure you are happy with your purchase.
I purchased this sewing machine because of the dual feed foot and the large throat space. I’m disappointed with the dual feed foot, my Elna with a walking foot does a much better job of quilting. My Elna does not have a large throat space.
The feet on this machine are large and chunky and do not do fine piece work. I’m returning this machine. The large throat space is great. Be sure you want what you order because it is very expensive to return this item.

It is a great machine at a great price. The features and accessories are perfect for a quilter. The stitch is the most perfectly straight one I have seen. The machine is QUIET. The thread cutter is a obvious time saver.
I have owned and used 7 brands of sewing machines in 48 years and I love this one. I’m very pleased with it and the sellers!.
This is a versatile machine. Especially like the variety of stitches and the scissor feature. Seems like a little thing, but this saves a lot of time and trouble. I think the optional table will be very handy when Im assembling large quilts and the free arm makes hemming pants so much easier.
Im a retired Family and Consumer Sciences teacher who has purchased many sewing machines for my department over the years, but I chose this one for my personal use and highly recommend it.
Awesome. Its neat and streamlined and I also love the features especially the ability to cut the thread in the needle down position and start up again fishing out the threads and without the thread knotting.
The best thing ever! I looked for a long time for a machine I could afford which was able to do this.

The sewing machine is great, but in my original order, I had ordered bobbins. The salesperson I spoke with helped me select the correct bobbins. She told me they would be back ordered because they were out of stock.
I said that would be fine. However, when the machine arrived I looked on the order form and it appeared that they had been canceled? I still need the bobbins and would like them. Are they coming?.

I have sewn my whole life. Thought I’d had pretty nice machines along the way. They would all end up just giving me headaches. I have had this Janome JW8100 for 5 years now. Still search all the time for reasons to sew something! Fantastic machine! So many features, I can’t mention them all but it’s a fun machine to operate.
I don’t have trouble with the tension, bobbin tangling, it’s super easy to select different stitches, widths and lengths of the stitch. Button holes are. wow! Easy! It measures the button and automatically makes a button hole the correct size! You can use the foot peddle (I’m old fashioned that way) or run it with the controls on the machine.
I love absolutely everything about it! Keep the manual handy when you first get it and before long you’ll be loving to sew! If you are looking for a new machine, this one is my recommendation! Have fun!.
I love my Janome JW8100! My trusty mechanical machine that I had had for 40 years died 2 years ago. After grieving for awhile, I decided to treat myself to an expensive well known brand machine (also mechanical because I didn’t think I was ready for a computerized machine).
Well after a little over a year that machine is not holding up to regular sewing, quilting and crafts. Since I can’t afford another expensive machine/mistake I researched some less expensive machines.
The JW8100 had all of the features I wanted plus it was computerized which I have decided is pretty cool. The features I especially like are the needle stopping in the down position, the 7 different automatic buttonhole options, in the straight stitch mode the needle can be set anywhere from the far left to the far right, the pressure foot can be raised quite high for thick fabrics, it is light weight so taking it to class is a breeze and it is quiet! It came with a walking foot, extension table and cover all of which I had to pay extra for on my other machine.
The manual is quite thorough and easy to understand. I haven’t had enough time to try all the features but what I have used I really like. So far there are only two things that I don’t like on this machine.
One is that the light is not very bright but I have a lamp next to the machine so no big deal. And the other is that the attachment storage bin is useless. I bought a little storage box for a couple of dollars that works just fine.
Overall I think this machine is a great value. It is easy enough for a beginner to use but has a lot of nice features for an experienced seamstress to enjoy too.
The Janome sewing machine is a great machine for quilting. It is easy to use and has a lot of features that make quilting easier. The machine is also very affordable and is a great value for the money.
I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone who is looking for a good machine for quilting.
