In the fervor of the PS5 and XSX showcasing the power of ultra-fast PCIe4. 0 M. 2 SSDs, I decided that my next build was going to completely abandon all classic mechanical HDDs and SATA SSDs in favor of the closest M.
2 SSDs to this new standard I could manage. I needed to find a high capacity, very fast storage medium for a reasonable price. Enter the Sabrent Rocket Q4. I designed my build-out from the ground up focused around having 6 GB of storage using 3 of the 2 TB versions of this exact drive.
I cannot adequately express the effect of the amazing 4800 Mbps read, 3600 Mbps write speed of the Sabrent Rocket Q4 on a PCIe4. 0 board! I have been astonished at the quality of life change nearly zero loading time gives! I found myself replaying Crysis 2 with less than 10 second load times and Doom Eternal and a lot of classic RPGs which are practically instant and maximizing my valuable and highly limited gaming time instead of staring at load screens! The last time I experienced a fundamental technology shift of this magnitude was in 1998 when Quake 2 came out and demonstrated with 3Dfx the first colored lighting, an act which finally allowed 3D to go on par with and far surpass 2D graphics.
The “wow” factor was immediately evident and I am feeling the same thing from these amazing drives! For the rest of the build I paired a 3 M. 2 2280 slot board (Gigabyte x570 AORUS Master w/ Ryzen 9 3900XT) with 32 GB RAM and currently a GTX 1070ti (RTX 3080 in my future) with 32 GB of DDR4-3600 to fit under my Noctua NH-D15 cooler.
Having storage so fast it is potentially bottlenecked by RAM is mindblowing and a clear testament to the progress of today! Overall, this is an absolutely fabulous investment and I am completely satisfied! I highly, highly recommend these drives to experience the same joy!.
I installed this drive as my c: drive in a new build on a ASUS Prime TRX40 board with an AMD 3960X, along with a WD 1TB PCIE 3. 0 stick as my d: drive. Windows installed fine but about 70% of the time, when I tried to boot, I would get a no boot drive error message.
I tried clearing the CMOS, updating the BIOS, reseated the devices in their m. 2 slot, but was still getting this weird inconsistent behavior. I thought maybe there was some weird hardware incompatibility issues or BIOS settings issue, so I did some internet searching and saw that many other people had the same issue with this Savrent nvme stick.
I tried all of the Internet guidance, as did other people, tweaking and changing various UEFI and OS settings in the BIOS without success. To be clear, the BIOS recognizes the drive and will boot from the drive if I boot it from the boot menu of the BIOS, it just would not boot from it upon normal power up.
The only solution was to replace the Sabrent drive per the Internet, so it seems that there is a significant percentage of subpar products that might pass Sabrent internal QC systems but exhibit this weird behavior, that is resolved with just getting a replacement.
As a last resort, I wiped out both drives and reinstalled windows from from scratch with only the Sabrent. That solved it, but it still doesnt explain the wonky drive detection in the bios.
Sabrent were not exaggerating about the speeds! Even working as the operating system drive, it was still clocking right at 7000mb/s for reads and 5300mb/s for writes. After POST, you’re at the Windows log-in screen in just a few seconds.
Shifting larges files from one drive to another is done in seconds, and something previously laggy like loading media file thumbnails in explorer as you’re scrolling is now completely seamless. With this being a Sabrent drive, you can register it on their website for a 5 year warranty, and can also download software to keep firmware updated, and keep tabs on the drive’s health.
Only drawbacks I see with the drive is the price, you’re paying for speed far more than you are capacity. So you should look more at generation 3 drives or SATA SSDs if you want better value for larger storage size.
Other drawback is little software can presently take advantage of such blistering speeds, so this is definitely kit more for the future in mind. Now that the new generation of gaming consoles support NVME drives, we’ll hopefully see more software sooner rather than later making use of the speeds on offer.
If you’re happy to spend the extra money, then you will definitely get what you pay for in quality of performance.

Storage technology has been going through a bit of a meteoric boom over the past ten years, and during that time Samsung has consistently led the pack when it comes to both quality and raw performance.
The 980 Pro continues this trend with their usual flare, offering an absurdly fast drive with a five-year warranty, excellent thermal characteristics, and their usual somewhat unassuming package. In the time since I received the drive I’ve run tests in three different use cases which I think covers most of the likely use cases for this kind of m.
2 NVMe drive: a high end gaming desktop, a slightly older laptop, and a separate enclosure. The initial installation for all three is unremarkable for anyone with experience in performing new builds or upgrades.
Despite its capacity they managed to cram everything onto a single sided PCB so it shouldn’t have any issues with clearance or thermal issues in whatever you might want to put it in. The usual copper-plated heat spreader/sticker offers good adhesion to thermal pads (and should NEVER be removed, by the way) and based on the temps in my three test cases is very compatible with aftermarket heatsinks should you want to go that route.
So long as your system has enough space to fit the 2280 form factor (and virtually all of them do at this point) I don’t think there’s any reason to be worried about not being able to install it. Performance in all three systems was excellent, and near the speeds quoted on the box in a system that supports PCI-E 4.
0. And that is an important consideration, because while it works fine in the older system which only supported PCI-E 3. 0 it did bottleneck at a read speed of 3500mb/s, which is as much as the older interface can manage.
In the newer system it generally does perform very near the 7gb/s it claims on the box and in some cases actually exceeded it, but in most cases it seemed to hover just below the quoted read/write speeds.
Sustained write operations do tend to slow down considerably once the cache has been filled, which is to be expected with this kind of drive, but even saturated it was able to stay well above 1500mb/s.
Most impressive however was the drive’s thermal performance. It seems like just about everything in this current generation of hardware has a tendency to run hotter than the one that preceded it, but this one consistently ran cooler than the other m.
2 drives I use under load, even with smaller heat sinks. Granted this isn’t as concerning with an SSD as it would be with something like a CPU, as SSDs are usually pretty tolerant of higher operating temps so long as they’re consistent across the various memory cells, but it’s nice to know that I don’t have to worry about it cooking itself in a laptop.
What was weirder was to note that the operating temps were very consistent across all three systems despite each one having very different cooling characteristics, with the laptop (which lacked a large heatsink or much ventilation) only coming out a couple degrees higher than the desktop or external enclosure.
Apparently Samsung’s new drive controller does have some of its own tools for thermal regulation and this was a system that couldn’t handle the drive at its full speed so it’s possible that I was just seeing some thermal throttling going on, but perhaps someone more knowledgeable about the particulars of SSD cooling will find this to be useful information.
Gaming performance is excellent for both of the internal installs, though if I’m being completely honest it seemed like a fairly marginal upgrade over the previous generation of Samsung’s SSD. There are some very big potential gains to be had with the latest generation of GPUs, as they offer a much more efficient loading scheme when paired with this kind of drive, but as I like everyone else am still unable to get my hands on one of those GPUs I can’t really comment on it.
Once it’s in the drive can be managed via the Samsung Magician software, which is quite capable and hasn’t really changed much in the past few years. Only thing I’d note here is that if you want to use all the features it offers it seems that you really do need to have a motherboard with full support for PCI-E 4.
0, as otherwise it’s not going to be able to fully recognize the drive for what it is. Of course since you’d be limited to running at half speed anyway due to the bottleneck, I can’t imagine that too many people will find themselves in this situation.
Ultimately while I’d say that anyone would likely be thrilled with the performance this unit offers, I’d only really recommend it to those who are building new systems or making additions to a system from the last year or so.
As good as it performed in all the various systems, it really only became exceptional when installed in the latest hardware that could make full use of it. There are plenty of good drives you can get that’ll make an older machine a bit more responsive or make a good Steam archive.
But this is the computer equivalent of a race car, and it needs to be treated as such if you’re going to get the most value out of it.
Excellent drive. Samsung is known in the industry with the best NAND compared to competitors and this drive exemplifies this nicely in the consumer space. While other drives post better benchmarks in synthetics and even real world transfers in some comparisons realize this: Samsung can do exactly the same if they choose to do so via Firmware.
I know since I test NAND, FW and Drive Controllers for a living from all vendors. Samsung’s 980 Pro 2TB not only delivers competitive performance the price premium some are concerned over gives you more reliable NAND after the standard warranty offering as well as a reliable in-house process from R&D to production.
You won’t go wrong on this product as it keeps up with the heavy hitters and you will have peace of mind as to NAND reliability (which is where your data is stored) long after the manufacturer warranty period.
Samsung ARR on this product is very appealing over say competitors including those who outsource their NAND sourcing. One final word: Samsung’s FW design means they spend a lot less time in Background FW processes that will eat your NAND endurance quickly.
Consider that compared to the competition.

I have bought about 10 of these over the past couple years. They always work great, and I have never had a failure with any of them. I have used them to replace hard drives in older PC and Mac laptops.
The performance of these drives is not anywhere near as fast as a PCI m. 2 SSD, but they are a great replacement for SATA drives in old PCs. They are several times faster than spinning drives, so they make older PCs/laptops actually usable.
I also keep a couple of these drives on hand for testing computers, frequently reformatting them with various versions of MacOS, Linux, and Windows. I think the oldest one of these drives I have is 3 years old, and I have never had a failure.
They are a great buy at about $20!.
Inland makes dependable SSD’s for great prices, Cloned my Adata 120GB SSD boot drive that was freezing up 100percent usage with just a few data files that saved to it by mistake. Got a couple of BSOD’s with the Adata drive, cloned to this Inland drive.
no problems whatsoever, Windows 10 booted. Adata is known for downgrading controllers and flash memory after they get good reviews. For Windows 10 on up, do not use any smaller than 240Gb for a boot drive, unless you make absolutely sure no apps or programs, or data save to boot drive.
Make sure you optimize SSD’s in windows by enabling trim. I still use spinning HDD for data.
The last 1 of these I got was a 120GB for like $25 for a system with a core 2 quad and 6GB DDR2. An SSD adds value to old hardware allowing it to boot swiftly and providing similarly swift access to storage.
The Inland Professional price matches superbly to the age of the hardware. Also, they are sufficiently robust. I use Linux and I Distro hop, routinely. Beyond the aforementioned, I may set an 8-12GB swap partition and adjust swappiness because software-ram is easier then DDR2.
My SSDs’ are Inland Pro and, knock on wood, I’ve yet to have a drive failure.

This will be my 3rd M. 2 Crucial SSD Drive and as ALL of my past Micron/Crucial components rangin from RAM to SSDs to M. 2s, the P3 does not disappoint. With games and programs and digital camera pictures/videos inflating almost as fast as our economy, the older 500gb HDDs are no longer cutting it.
Some newer FPS will eat up almost 200GBs alone. Downloading them even over a Gig fiber connection is a PAIN, but the 2TB P3 is giving me ample space as a storage/game drive as it is a companion drive to a 1TB WD Black M.
2 SSD (for the OS drive). The P3 is packaged like most other M. 2 SSDs and Crucial, like always, include that tiny philips head screw. The black PCB matches my motherboard and if there wasn’t any Crucial branding on it you wouldn’t even notice it nestled in place.
Playing games like Forza 5 or COD off this drive have no discernable impact on speed. It never ceases to amaze me that this much storage can be packed something about the size of stick of gum (especially when you consider that there are 4TB monsters out there) and with the speeds they offer at that.
Transferring about 500GBs from a external 1TB SSD drive took just under 40mins. Although it could’ve been a little faster as it was in the background while I was doing some other work on the computer and did not actually see when the transfer was complete.
I have mentioned that cell phone pictures and videos have become ridiculous in size?. especially when you have an active kid and both parents always snapping pictures of. I’m glad to have the space. I would PAIN me to see how long it would take to off load that drive onto a platter disk.
on an older windows machine. Somewhere in the not too distant future, 2TB will as inconsequential as 2GB drive is today and maybe then that will be the base storage size for Apple/Samsung phones. But for now my home media server which is 12TB in a RAID 1 across HDDs is where a large portion of that 500GB will eventually migrate to (thankfully in the background).
But 3TB of SSD on my primary machine gives me LOTS of breathing room for the time being. Seeing these small numbers like 1 and 2 TBs make me think of when 128MB HDDs were considered MASSIVE and “No one needs that much disk space”.
I’ll think the same when petabytes come along.

I recently resurrected a 2011-2012 era Toshiba laptop for my niece so that her daughter could use the machine. In the past two years I’ve done this on a number of laptops for family members. All of the machines were from around this time period, which many people would say they should have bought newer, faster machines.
Sure, if your intentions were to do a lot of heavy gaming or video work, they would be right to say so. But honestly this isn’t what these machines are being used for. Rather, they’re being used on social media, email, web browsing and viewing photos of family functions and recreational get-togethers.
Like the Toshiba, I replaced the meager 2 Gbs of ram with 16 Gbs, the old 5,400 rpm HDD with this Team Group SSD and upgraded the Windows 7 OS with Windows 10. On all of these machines, including the Toshiba, the result was a much smoother running, faster laptop, with plenty of room for programs and a reasonable amount of on-board storage.
Each machine got a new SSD of one brand or another, but the Toshiba got the first Team Group SSD (512 Gb) that I’ve purchased, and in my experience it does everything that the WD, HP and the rest of the name brand drives I’ve used are doing.
I’m sure there may be a specification in the drive that doesn’t match up to some of the other drives, but I haven’t “experienced” any difference. Well, that is except for the price. This drive was available for under $50 on Newegg when I bought it.
It’s been working great since installation, and its performance is excellent. It really is just like so many other SSDs, a great upgrade, for a great price! (By the way, for those who think upgrading these older laptops aren’t worth the $125 to $150 spent on them to bring up their performance and to run a modern OS, let me just say: Every one of them has made their owners very happy, they’re back in daily use rather than being tossed into the growing piles of electronic debris in this country and in each case it saved the owners $600 to $1500 to get a new comparable machine.
Come to think of it, new machines wouldn’t be comparable, as these machines included DVD burners, SD card slots and multiple USB ports. Despite the trend to do everything “in the cloud,” many of us still like to throw in a disk, plug in an external drive, memory stick or external peripheral!).
My recent build has a new PCIE 4. 0 for a system drive (256 GB), a PCIE 3. 0 drive for gaming brought forward from my previous machine (512 GB), and a mechanical for general storage (1. 5 TB). My gaming drive is filled with the half-dozen games I like to keep available, so I wanted more room.
This Team Group 1 TB SATA III SSD filled the niche perfectly. I didn’t need to spend the money for a larger PCIE drive (and toss the perfectly fine ones I had), and really, look at the online benchmarks.
a SATA III drive has no noticeable difference in game performance compared to a PCIE drive. It IS much, much faster than a mechanical drive. It installed in two minutes, I went into Disk Management to initialize and format, and done; working perfectly.
Moved a few secondary games to it and do not see any difference from when they were on the PCIE 3. 0 drive. I gave four eggs just to point out they keep the price low by not including any screws or data cable.
If you don’t have them lying around you’ll need to buy them separately.
I have several of these, and have used them to restore useful lifetimes for older notebook and desktop systems. Some have been in daily use for two years and have given no problems. In actual use — especially on older systems where the speed bottleneck is not the drive I/O — these are indistinguishable from the ‘elite’ brands, which *may* be faster to some infinitesimal degree, but also cost a lot more.

Briefly, if you still have your factory drive in a Mac laptop, don’t even hesitate – just buy this. I’ll make this pretty short – since I could go on and on. I have a mid 2010 15″ MacBook Pro, 500gb, which over the years had become slow as an old dog – with everything.
I keep it in mint shape, and it’s made very well, as all Apples are. I dreaded having to buy another new Mac, and shelling out over $2500; I decided it wasn’t going to happen this time – I did this scenario many times before.
Very quick research on the PRO vs the EVO revealed a very highly rated product with extreme life expectancy due to its technology, backed up with a great warranty. I shopped and found a deal of basically $100 off the going price of $500 – got mine for $400.
I’ll skip the basics; I installed Carbon Copy Cloner, $40, bought a good (cheap) Sabrent SATA cable $10, cloned my 500gb hard drive. The SSD started right up, is unbelievably fast in everything it does – from startup speed to Photoshop to everything – this old 2010 MacBook is like a brand-new computer.
I saved over $2000!! I should also mention I upgraded the factory RAM with another $80 investment, so this also played a role. I also bought a $10 app that monitors fan speed and computer temperature the computer runs nice and cool, even under a heavy load.
If you have an older Mac like me, skip the move to Sierra. I did it, and it complicated things immensely; it’s another chapter and suffice it to say, it caused over-heating all by itself. Sick with the latest edition of El Capitan and enjoy the immense speed and storage space.
You’ll probably need a newer Mac for Sierra, but they won’t tell you that, BTW, lots of people have reported over-heating out-of-control with Sierra, and unfortunately Apple is useless with tech help.

SUPER SOLID SSD EVER. What you want to know is this: is this SSD faster than the 850 EVO? When dealing with SSD’s, does any appreciable difference in speed occur, since they are all so fast, anyway? The fact is this: I’ve been using Samsung SSD’s of varying varieties for years, and when I recently replaced my Samsung 850EVO with this one (on my boot drive), the speed notice WAS undeniably different.
Yes, I still has those couple of seconds of booting time after the POST routine finished, but instead of programs loading, they almost felt like they were POPPING, this thing is so fast. Is it worth the price? Hard to say.
First, is what type of computer user are you? What types of programs do you typically run? And what type of system do you have? For example, if the bottleneck is in another part of the system, you may not get the most bang for your buck by spending the extra on this PRO version.
But if you have a modern, well-specified computer, you will notice a speed difference. I certainly did. And now comes the wait until the 850 PRO prices come down, because what you really want is something like this, but in 4Tb or larger.
It will be a few years before we see such storage, and at reasonable prices, but this drive clearly shows it is coming. For now, if you are dealing with a desktop, consider my strategy of using it as the boot disk with all your programs installed, and other, less expensive drives for storage.
If this is for a laptop, you have to ask yourself if your laptop is new enough and powerful enough (RAM, processor, video system, etc. ) to warrant the extra expense. All SSD drives are fast, and generally, scream past the traditional spin platter drives we all grew up with.
But there IS a difference in how the memory in an SSD is constructed and then, of course, there is the often-overlooked factor of the controller attached to the disk, which also has an impact on speed.
Of all the Samsung drives I’ve purchased, this is the best, and fastest. Its a superb drive that is a window into the future of SSD drives.
If one cannot afford nor wants to play in the new & growing world of NVMe SSD’s, this is top of the line. Only one or two other brands offers a 10 year warranty on the same drive, or 150 TBW written.
Except for demanding drive tasks, where the RAPID app can help with, really who is going to write 150TB of data to this drive inside of 10 years? BTW, this SSD can be used for datacenter or server use, so it really has to have thick skin.
Chances are that this drive will become obsolete before ii dies & will still have value. 😉 Overall, this is my 2nd fastest SSD. Was #1 until I purchased a 512GB Samsung 950 PRO M. 2 NVMe SSD 3-4 months back, and still boots faster, because the NVMe one has to go through an extra controller.
If one can grab one of these for anything under $225, go for it, I was lucky with a promo & got it for just under $200. checked less than an hour later, was sold out. At the same time, some may decide to wait & see if there’ll be a 860 Pro, while that’s true with the 9 series, haven’t heard anyone say anything about the 850 series going anywhere (except for the M.
2 model of the EVO line). This model should still be still be in distribution come this time next year, as SATA-3 has hit it’s peak. Prior to install, or right afterwards, download the latest Samsung Magician from their website, the one on the CD may be older & therefore, no reason to install, only to be rewritten over again.
Then open & select a power plan. Note that the Maximum Performance is not the best one, unless one hibernates (not recommended for SSD users). I chose the ‘Maximum Capacity’ option, and this baby screams, yet at the same time, hums right along.
Never once have had any SSD related issues with this one, not the first. This SSD was an early birthday present to myself in November 2015. ;-).

I built a new gaming rig a few months back. I thought my SATA SSDs would be fine, and did not look into using NVME SSD for my OS Drive. After a few months I was noticing the system was not as fast as system guilds I had researched.
The eventual fact was my build was not running any NVME SSDs. So I did upgrade my OS Drive to NVME SSD, and I am still shocked how much better my system runs. So this got me thinking about adding a large capacity NVME for my newer game titles.
I have a 3. 5TB SATA SSD that has 500GB free, and the optimization utility is warning about slower performance due to low capacity. So my hope was to move my newer games to the NVME for faster load times, and hopefully gain back some performance/endurance for the SATA.
I started looking, but was only finding 2TB capacity with decent Read/Write/IOPs. Then I found the Sabrent 4TB ROCKET NVMe M. 2 PCIe 3. 0 x4 SSD. I had not heard of Sabrent, so I tried to find reviews.
Not many had reviewed the 4TB SSD, but many had reviewed the other Sabrent SSDs. I was impressed by the positive reviews, and most feedback was consistent about the quality/value of the SSDs. The price was a bit high, but the capacity per price is lower then average.
With the 5 year warranty the value is even better. So I decided to purchase it via the Newegg Market Place. I have recently installed the drive, and started moving files over. I decided to use the heatsink that came with my motherboard.
Idle temps were about 33C, and while in use tend to be 45C. Crystal Disk Mark reported Read/Write of 3250MBps/3025MBps. Copying of my Steam Library (2. 6TB) took a bit over 2 hours from my SATA SSD with an average transfer rate of 450MBps.
I let the NVME cool down before run some game tests. Games do seem to load up faster in some respects. Texture pop in was far lower, and loading screen progress bars do fill faster in some areas. Games that have large maps (FallOut 4, GTA5) populate distant cells quickly with little resource pop in.
So I would say this drive does well for games that benefit from higher read speeds. I would highly suggest the Sabrent 4TB ROCKET NVMe M. 2 PCIe 3. 0 x4 SSD. Large capacity, good Read/Write/IOPs, and a 5 year warranty backing up the endurance of the drive.
I am glad that I was able to buy this product, and not have to settle for a lower capacity. One other feature that I like is the Sabrent SSD utility. It only detects M. 2 drives, but it is far better then any SSD utility I have used.
Well designed UI that tells you all the useful information. Temp, current firmware, serial number, and much more that other utility software makes you dig around in walls of text. It also work with non Sabrent drives! Another value add if you ask me.

My 6 year old OCZ Vertex 4 with only 128GB capacity has served me absolutely flawlessly, but I just needed more space. My previous SSD was plenty fast enough, so I mainly bought this for the higher capacity.
I installed it to the motherboard with an old, but well made and previously unused, SATA1 cable. I did a bit of research beforehand, and basically you dont need a special SATA3 cable to get full SATA3 speeds but if you do run in to a problem using an old cable, a new cable is probably the first thing you should try.
From there, I entered Disk Management in Windows and Initialised the new drive with GPT use MBR if you want better backwards compatibility with older systems. You need to do that, otherwise the drive will not be recognised in Explorer.
I then downloaded Samsung Magician by mistake. I wanted Samsung Data Migration instead. While I was in Samsung Magician though, I read the warning that my firmware was out of date, so I updated it at the click of a button and a restart.
While browsing in Samsung Magician I noticed you can also set aside some room on the SSD to prolong its life, and I decided to sacrifice 5 for this purpose. After switching to the Samsung Data Migration tool, it automatically identified my old SSD and my new SSD and cloning the drive was done quickly and easily no configuration needed.
The only thing you need to do, as the software says, is close any running programs like antivirus, nVidia control panel, game updaters, browsers, documents etc. Im actually surprised and was quite nervous that it could clone a live system.
I was expecting to have to boot via USB and clone from the cloning programs user interface. Thats the way I have cloned drives before, and its far less user friendly. Im glad this Samsung tool worked so well, and that it was so easy to use.
After the clone was complete, I went in to my UEFI Bios and changed the boot order to the new Samsung SSD, and it booted perfectly from the Samsung. Its great looking at all that extra space After that, I simply formatted my old SSD, so now its completely blank, and Ill use it for additional storage.
I did some benchmarks to make sure things were OK. Im getting much better Sequential Read and Write speeds 562 MBs read and 531MBs write which is like a full 100MBs faster than my old SSD which I still consider really quick.
Random Read and Writes are about 100MBs slower though, and Im not sure if thats because the drive is bigger and has more space or what. I might do some more investigation in to that, with some googling and maybe a SATA cable swap.
Its not urgent, the system feels just as quick as before, no noticeable slowdown or speed up I just have loads more space now.
Absolutely brilliant HDD. Turned a dying mid 2010 MacBook Pro into a sprightly new feeling MacBook Pro. Highly recommend this drive. Once I got passed the GUID partition issue see below, found it really easy to clone my old drive and copy over all files and apps, take out and replaced the drives and presto, job done.
One thing to note, for MacBook, you will need to format it with GUID partition map, but if you are running High Sierra or higher this is not easy to find out how to do, but you can use the simple instructions below from MacObserver.
com to do it easily. Formatting a drive so you can install and boot macOS requires the GUID partition map. Unfortunately, Disk Utility in macOS High Sierra doesnt make that option easy to find. Start by connecting the drive to your Mac.
Once its mounted, launch Disk Utility. The app is hiding in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. Click the View widget in the upper left corner of the Disk Utility window and choose Show All Devices.
Now you should see your drive device descriptions with the drive name nested underneath. Select the drive description just above the drive name for the device you want to format. Now click the Erase tab.
Set the format to Mac OS Extended Journaled and the Scheme to GUID Partition Map. If you selected the drive name instead of its description you wont see the Scheme option.
I had a 500Gb mechanical Hard drive in my 2012 laptop it was so so slow. Swapping with this Samsung SSD made a huge difference. See the beforeafter pics for yourself. My laptop used to take 6 mins to boot up, until the hdd light would stop flashing now its ready in 85 secondsI used Acronis to do the complete drive transfer as I am more familiar with it.
I didnt use the free downloadable Samsung drive cloning software. One thing to note if you have an AMD system you may encounter an issue. Samsung and AMD dont appear to get on and dont support each others hardware with the software they write.
If you get the occasional screen freeze system hanging for a period of time on access to SSD drive, simply do the following fix1 StartgtComputergtHardware and soundgtDevice managergtIDEATAPI controllers.
2 Select the AMD SATA device. 3 When the next menu comes up, click the Driver tab and then press the update driver button. 4 Choose option Select driver from those installed. 5 Very important this bit Choose the GENERIC Microsoft AHCI SATA controller.
Once you do that, the drive will work just fine, though you do get an exclamation mark if you run the Samsung magician software a VID 1002 caution. In reading the forums, this is nothing to worry about and makes little to no difference with performance.
Annoyed I didnt upgrade to an SSD drive earlier, they truly make mechanical Hard disk drives completely obsolete.

As a PS4 Pro junkie I am always looking for improvements or upgrades. I was a little leary of this drive but decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It definitely helps load time. But beware.
On your first load or two it will not be any faster. It takes two to three loads for everything to cache properly. After that you will see your increase. It is really nice. If you only play one game it will super charge it.
With multiple games it just makes a nice, quicker loading experience.

I installed this Samsung 970 Pro m. 2 SSD drive into an HP ZBook G3 17. Seems to work very well after several days. My system used to take over 9 minutes to boot from a cold start. It now is totally ready in about a minute and 45 seconds.
I’m not sure if this HP takes full advantage of the drive, but it is a great improvement. I used [email protected] Disk Image software rather than the Samsung supplied software to transfer my files. I saw others used similar products for the transfer.
The problem I saw was that the Samsung transfer software ran on top of my regular Windows installation and it fairly cautioned me that any running programs (locked files) would not be copied. Since there are a lot of background operations running, I didn’t know how I could be sure to get everything.
I did not proceed. The [email protected] image software (and others) I used boots from a USB stick outside of Windows and does not have that restriction. After the transfer, I did have to boot from a recovery instance to make the UEFI GPT, (the new style partition table, system bootable, but that is not an issue with the Samsung drive at all, it’s a Windows thing.
Okay, so if you are looking at this drive it probably means one of 2 things: 1- You are looking for the best performance, reliability and longevity. 2- You are wondering why the heck this drive is so expensive.
So why buy this drive? MLC: this performs better than most 3D TLC memory while providing better write endurance. There are other less expensive products by even the same manufacturer that have MLC and amazing performance but without the write endurance.
The write endurance listed on Samsung’s website is 600 TBW which means that you should be able to write about 600 TB to this drive before it is exhausted. The performance of this drive when running benchmarks, performs similarly to the specs that Samsung provides- this drive is fast even when compared to other MLC offerings.
The product looks very good installed on a motherboard though many manufacturers cover up this m. 2 with a heat spreader and this is subjective anyway.
i have an amd ace x570 based motherboard with a ryzen 3900x cpu. latest amd drivers and bios loaded, with samsung magician installed. in crystaldiskmark v8. 0, my 980 pro shows seq1 r:6404/w:1262, rnd4k r:1177/w:1064.
my 970 evo shows seq1 r:3275/w:2497, rnd4k r:1186/w:1163. while i see 2x the read speed of my 970, i am also seeing 1/2x the write speed of my 970. no real solution yet, from my searches. do your research before purchasing.
i would recommend getting a 970 evo for now.

This was my first NVMe drive. I have always been a SATA SSD guy. I was upgrading my rig with a new board and modern processor. My board had a PCIe 4 NVMe port and I decided to get this drive to maximize the system speed.
Oh my. I have never seen a machine boot so fast. Everything just flies. Apps install in a blink (obviously it depends on what is being installed). You will not regret it. But, to get the faster speeds you have to have a CPU and board that will support the Gen 4 NVMe.
I have always been happy with Samsung SSDs. The software they give you is great for managing the drives. You get the quality extras with Samsung that you will not see with the really cheap drives. I use the software to provision the drive with less space and increase the life of the drive allowing it to replace aged memory cells if needed.
I have been on some of my SSDs for over five years. I also have moved certain OS features off of the SSD to spinning drive (file replication for one) to significantly reduce the write actions on the drive.
Never had a Samsung device fail on me at home. At work we had one that was dead out of the box. Samsung replaced it under the warranty.
Motherboard manual was a bit misleading on the installation, but basically installed easily. Cloned original windows drive and boot seem faster now. Aomei Partition Assistant flags ALL statistics as bad.
Disk Checkup shows all okay. Note that some older software may not be able to see the NVMe hardware, but MAY be okay with an update to the latest version. For instance an older version of Acronis True Image didn’t even know it was attached to my system, but the latest is fine although I don’t like its interface.
Windows 10 was no problem. Samsung Magician software is a handy utility to view SSD. HDD information. It will inform you when a software of firmware update is available and provide an install button, rather that searching the Samsung site.
I would recommend running it manually rather that at Windows startup.

Great SSD and speed up my tabletlaptop convertible. In my case i got gt5 fold HD performance increase when compared to WD HDD 5400rpm. Now all the startup processes come up with in 15 seconds. after login all the process are up and you are ready to go rather than wait like before.

If you are cloning OS, better optimize your existing disk first, use disk clean up and remove all the junk files etc. Remove all the unwanted SWs as well. In my case I cloned 200GB of my boot disk WIN10 Home and no issues regarding booting or performance were faced.
It was just like plug and play. 2. Download and use Samsung Data transfer software to clone, its very simple and easy. 3. Download Samsung Magician software and upgrade the firmware if it tells you to upgrade and optimize the SSD using Magician, you will see even further improvements in disk performance.
I don’t know what Samsung’s appeal is or how they continue to do business. The consensus of review fora, Better Business Bureau and class action lawsuit websites is furious customers lawyering up over known defects which Samsung refuses to address.
I had such a case with this SSD, which didn’t let me disable over-provisioning or resize any partitions. Accordingly, 20% of my hard drive was inaccessible. It may have been a software problem with Samsung Magician (which is also poorly reviewed), but after having to copy-and-paste my support request and previous support IDs, they just said “Go to Newegg for support, we won’t help you.
” Fortunately, Newegg processed an RMA without argument. I’m going to try my luck with a Crucial drive, which has somewhat better online reviews and fewer outstanding class action lawsuits against them.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Corsair, currently using one of their cases, mouse, mechanical keyboard, 12 x LL120 fans, H115i Pro cooler, 4 dimms of RAM, sleeved cables, icue rgb setup etc etc so I was reasonably confident in buying this SSD to run as my OS/Main game drive.
This was a mistake! The drive started behaving badly this morning, a few BSOD into BIOS loops and upon finally booting would BSOD until it finally crashed and won’t boot now. The drive is completely unresponsive, won’t show up in BIOS in either motherboard slot (even though another Sabrent drive will) and won’t show up in windows installer either.
After a google I found that these drives have a TERRIBLE reputation for dying randomly with some users reporting failures after less than a months use. It’s a widespread issue seemingly and i’ve seen responses from Corsair themselves who seem to be replacing/refunding.
I shall be calling Scan in the morning for help with this. I fear it may be down to covid quality control issues, as i’ve also had an MSI AIO give up the ghost on the same system after 10 months of use, who knows.
I shall be going with a Samsung instead going forward.
This review is for the Force MP600 2TB PCI-E 4 3D TLC. TL;DR: Overall I highly recommend this m. 2 drive for any gaming PC builds as the boot drive and the PS5. I would buy this again. I primarily bought this m.
2 SSD to extend the storage on my PS5. This drive works flawlessly. I was able to format and use the 2TB as advertised. My PS5 has a read speed of 3857. 7 MB/s. Im missing around ~1 GB/s. of the 4950 MB/s advertised.
This SSD is super fast as it is. So no biggie, since you won’t be able to see that difference in real world gameplay. Maybe on a gaming PC that will truly utilize the Gen 4 PCI-E bus. Only Physical problem is that the heat spreader for this SSD is too tall.
And will prohibit reclosing the OEM metal plate that covers the m. 2 slot. But I consider this an actual pro as opposed to being a con. Reason being that the design of the PS5s cooling doesn’t seem to allow any airflow into that compartment anyway.
And having the m. 2 drive exposed to more air will reduce heat buildup and thus prolong the drives life span. The PS5 already runs hot since Sony decided to skimp out on more cooling of vital components on the motherboard.
Now only the test of time will show how this SSD performs. I am not even considering that this drive will ever come close to its estimated write endurance rated for up to 3,600TB written. Looking forward to the day when 20TB+ SSD hits the mainstream market for an affordable price.
Bought this to replace a gaming hdd that was on it’s last legs. The install wasn’t really all that tough, though I did have to spend $50 on software because the Corsair SSD toolkit isn’t all that good.
Once you get everything set up, the first thing that will knock your socks off is how fast your OS (Windows or Linux) boots up. One minute, you’re looking at your bios screen, and another few seconds, you’re at the Windows login screen.
That is fast. Another thing that will get your eye is how much less time the computer is spending fetching stuff from the SSD vs your old hard disk. The disk stats in task manager literally dropped to zero.
That’s not zero in as it’s not using any hdd space, that’s zero as in almost no time is spent reading and writing to the hard disk anymore. That also means your OS is operating a LOT smoother. There is also a lot more you’ll notice, but you already get the idea.
If you have only one wish for Christmas, make it to upgrade to a Corsair SSD. You’ll be glad you did.

I purchased the SSD with upgrade kit. My laptop is Windows 10. Down load AcronisTrueImageOEM_5128. exe No Problem. When attempted to install the software, I immediately get the message “Acronis True Image OEM Installation Failed”.
A phone call to support revealed this is a well known problem that has been going on for weeks. The immediate fix or work around was an E-mail with a link to Macirum software product that was a trial version that permitted cloning.
Their instruction for cloning were not easy to use especially going from a 256GB drive to a 512GB drive. I must have pushed the wrong button because clone failed and I cannot boot the drive or erase the 512GB Kinston disk.
It seems I must purchase the full Acronis product to make my new Kingston disk useable.
I recently installed this KC600 512GB SSD drive with a clean copy of Windows 10 OS, as a replacement to the stock WD platter HDD, along with a larger RAM unit to maximise memory capacity, in my ageing net-book and after capturing all of the available Windows 10 updates and hardware drivers, it’s looking like a worthwhile set of upgrades.
The machine used to be slow to the point of being generally unusable for anything productive but now, it runs quite smoothly; fast boot up and quicker command processing have turned it back into a useful tool! The Kingston KC600 drive is the usual high quality you’d expect from them and its read/write speeds are up to 550/520 MB/s, which is comparatively at the top end of what’s available in a 2.
5 Inch SATA 3 SSD format and in my case, I managed to purchase a unit at a very competitive price, making the upgrade extremely good value for the noticeable performance benefits.

Don’t think I will ever settle for less again. This component was key to me never finding the limits to this rig. I installed all the old stuff on a storage drive, games with over 300Gb after install and whatever updates (making them classified as huge) were put on this drive with the operating system.
Games that ever previously showed issues, or loaded massive worlds or universes were also installed on this drive. You will be very surprised just how many limits are extended or non-existant from having this drive change even your OS from the ground up.
Everything set to ultra settings in display, changing some settings performance wise, build like crazy, save and export as a mod, and watch the whine bags who can’t even open your mod roll in. Drives like this make limits a thing of the past, making others mad is optional of course, and sorry, offence not intended, it happens reguardless, so whatever.

I have a 3800x, Asus x570-E Gaming, and G. Skill RAM. My primary M. 2 boot drive is a Samsung 970 EVO. I also have a mass storage HDD. The plan was to have this Gammix as a second M. 2 drive. I removed the heat spreader to install the Gammix onto board in the second M.
2 slot as my board comes with one built in. (Side note: installing and uninstalling the Gammix in my board was a pain because every install required the removal and reinstallation of the GPU as the cover for the chipset has to be removed in order to remove the heat spreader for any M.
2 drive. ) After installing the Gammix I was able to boot to Windows and tried to allocate it. However, when I went to storage management it gave me a cyclic error. Figuring that this meant some minor error, I rebooted to try and see if it was recognized a second time.
But instead of Windows it went straight to the BIOS! Now the problems with the Gammix had manifested in a more serious manner and prevented the BIOS from recognizing my boot M. 2 drive in the first M.
2 slot! At that point I shut down, re-seated the Gammix, and again booted to Windows. However, again the storage manager indicated there was a cyclic error and again trying to reboot sent me to the BIOS with no recognition of my main drive.
I removed it and started the RMA process with ADATA.
Super easy to install, Heatsink is mounted in an orientation that it looks great instead of upside down. Super fast, and well. it’s an SSD. Always try to go for the biggest you can afford. Mechanical HDDs are becoming less useful when SSD prices are getting better and better.

Hardware Used: ASUS Prime B560-Plus motherboard i5-11500 CPU paired with Enermax ETS-T40fit (200W TDP) CPU Cooler WD SN 850 500GB gen 4 x4 M. 2 NVMe SSD Patriot Memory Viper Steel (2×8 GB) DDR4-3600MHz XMP memory 500 GB capacity drive is more than enough for me, only Samsung and Western Digital have something less than 1 TB.
Knowing that Samsungs 500GB and smaller capacity 980 Pro drives may have uncleared cache problems causing very slow speed after one month or so, I chose this WD SN 850 model with the hope of avoiding similar problem.
This is my first build of 11th generation Intel CPU and PCIe 4. 0 motherboard. Buying this SSD is just something that I WANT but not something that I NEED. When installing WIN 10 to the new PC, the first step is to copy files to the drive after product key verification.
I just could not believe my eyes that the Copying Files process was completed at the blink of my eyes. It was so fast, completed in one second (installed from 128 GB Samsung Fit flash drive, up to 300MB/s).
The same copying process for my previous builds took two minutes or so for PCIe 3. 0 motherboard with 2. 5 SATA3 SSD (installed from DVD drive) or fifteen minutes or so for PCIe 2. 0 motherboard with 7200 RPM mechanical HDD (from DVD drive).
Win 10 probably had the files to be copied read ahead into memory, otherwise even the flash drive with 300 MB/s still could not get it done in one second. That is how I can appreciate the speed of this drive, otherwise I just do not have daily tasks that demand such a high speed to make it noticeably faster than my other PCIe 3.

I will not complain here that the speed is not close to 7,000 MB/s spec, probably because 500 GB models use smaller cache than 1 TB or 2 TB models. There is always a discount in speed for smaller capacity models.
With this drive and the hardware configurations, I can compile a video of about ten and a half minutes in one and half minute, that is, in about 14. 8% of the video duration. My other PC with PCIe 3.
0 motherboard and gen 3 x4 M. 2 NVMe SSD compiling the same video took about 26% of the duration time to complete. Will buy more in the future for Linux and Win11 if the price can drop significantly.
I’ve had this drive for a while. It is amazing, only gets hot a bit and needs a bit cooling. Now i purchaed the second drive but i’ve realized that the model code on the new one was different “WDBAPY0010BNC” the first drive was “WDS100T1X0E” So i decided to make some search on internet, the products that was tested by some autohrities and reviewers on the internet had tested the “WDS100T1X0E” Also on WD product page for SN850 1TB w/out heatsink is said as the model: WDS100T1X0E.
SO now I have big doubts on this new drive? I don’t think that it is fake cuz this model is also sold by well known sellers, but what is it then? Is it a revised model which includes cheaper components that is produced special for Asia market?? Did WD do smt.
like the other companies infamous on such tricks? First produce the high performing model to be tested by everyone, then after 6 months sell the second version with the same brand name for a cheaper price? I saw some comments on the forums but i couldn’t find any concrete proof that is the exactly same drive.

The WD SN850 and the Seagate FireCuda 530 are the best NVMe’s for upgrading your PS5, as after all the upgrades and installations have completed, you are only left with just over 600gb. After installing Horizon Zero dawn (PS4) and Control (PS5), I was left with only 460gb.
So, yes you need to get a storage upgrade. I have x16 PS5 games and lots of PS4 games which run at a better frame rate with a 4K graphics upgrade. So this was a no brainer, make sure you upgrade your PS5 firmware to the latest version or it won’t recognise the NVMe storage.
Also, one it formats the NVMe for use, I found that it gave me inaccurate read speeds of 5156 gbps when it should be up to 7000 gbps. I checked a few YouTube channels regarding this and it appears to be a normal thing until the firmware is finely tuned.
The FireCuda got read speeds of 6170 gbps when it should be 7300 gbps. But that aside, it performs as advertised, switching between games is a breeze and loads times are next gen as are update installations.
A Far Cry from my PS4 with a 2TB Seagate SSD upgrade (pun intended).

Its said that when trying to increase the speed of your pc, the first and easiest thing to replace is the hard drive. And I agree. The 870 QVO SATA SSD is Samsungs budget level SSD with storage capacities up to 8 terabytes.
It is a SATA interface drive which is limited to 600 MBsecond transfer rates, unlike NVMe drives which can reach speeds of 3500 MBsecond. While these numbers look good on paper, there are lots of variables and reallife scenarios to take into consideration.
A quick google search will show many review sites with all the big test results and comparisons. In my opinion, from a consumer standpoint, the only thing that matters is how much faster the drive makes your computing experience.
As with most SSDs, the drive arrived with a multilanguage manual that says to go to Samsungs website for their drive magician and cloning software and some general installation pictures. You have to browse their site to find the software.
Since I already had the drive and didnt need to shop for one, I would have preferred a link that took me directly to the software page and download links. If you are replacing an existing drive you will need either a 2nd drive bay, data transfer cable such as httpswww.
bestbuy. comsiteapricorndatatransfercablegray3459621. pskuId3459621 or external drive dock. Samsungs cloning software worked well. Like most companies, it requires their brand drive to be present. Cloning my laptop hybrid drive to the new SSD took just over 20 minutes.
Swapping the new SSD into my older Dell laptop was simple and only took about 10 minutes and the difference is amazing. If you are not planning on cloning your existing drive and want to install a fresh version of your OS, know that this drive comes completely blank and will need to be partitioned and formatted prior to using.
Trying this, a clean install of Windows 10 home from a USB 3. 0 thumb drive took less than 10 minutes in my I7 laptop with 16 GB of ram. My laptop now boots to Windows 10 home in about a minute compared to several minutes or more with the old hybrid drive.
Programs launch almost immediately. I also have a similarly specd desktop PC that has an NVMe PCIe drive and in my use, the speeds and load times are too close to notice any significant difference. The Samsung Magician software shows drive information, details and benchmarks.
It is also used to diagnose any issues your new SSD may have as well as secure erase and drive encryption if thats something you need. My only negatives for this SSD are the warranty which is only three years vs the usual five years that most other manufactures offer and not having a direct link to the Samsung Magician and cloning software.
I highly recommend the new Samsung QVO SATA SSD to anyone who is looking to speed up their computer and is limited by a SATA interface.
This is the first time that Ive owned a 1TB SSD. I was a little skeptical about the performance and reliability so I decided to try different things to see how adaptive and reliable the drive is. Samsung states that the drive speed can go up to 560530 MBps of sequential readwrite through and up to 98,00088,000 random readwrite IOPS which is quiet good for the amount of data it can store.
So first I use it as a startup C drive and installing Windows 10 from scratch. I used my old Acer Desktop as well as a new HP Laptop. Both Units were able to see the drive with no issues, even if the acer HDD controller of the acer was really old.
I installed windows 10, and the installation was fast. Once it finished the installation I installed several programs like office, games, etc. No problem. I booted the drive several times to see if there were any problems but there were none.
Then I put the original c drive on both units Acer Laptop and HP Desktop both of them has a HP 256 SSD with a SATA 3 interface 6GBs c drive to boot with Windows 10, and the Acer has also a D drive Toshiba 2 TB HHD.
I copied data from the 256 SSD boot drive to the Samsung 1TD SSD, and the data transfer speed reached the 490MBs, which is really good, then I tried the copy from the Toshiba 2TB HDD drive to the SSD Samsung and the speed was 200MBs, something that I was expecting because the Toshiba is not SSD.
The other thing that I did was to see if I can use it as an external drive. I have a USB3 to SATA adapter, and it was immediately recognized in both machines. I was able to backup data and the data transfer went up to 150MBs, considering it is using USB port is really good.
Something that I found really cool was the Samsung Magician software that can be downloaded from the Samsung website. It is a really useful and powerful tool, I can see not only the samsung SSD drive, but my other 2 drives, the Toshiba HDD and the HP SSD, and if both have the SMART technology integrated, the SW will tell you any PFA of the drives.
However, for the Samsung SSD it has a lot of tools like, Low Level Format, Temperature, Serial Number, Firmware update, diagnostic scan, performance Optimization. Another test I did was to fill the disk until 85 of capacity and I didnt see any performance decrease on data transfer.
So, no matter what I did, this drive has accomplished very well, for Windows 10 it behaves wonderfully, as a boot drive, it make seen the Windows 10 very fast and responsive but that is because the drive is really fast.
Very pleased with the performance, this Samsung 870 QVO 1 Tb is a good deal. I highly recommended.
I bought this to replace a smaller-capacity 850EVO drive in one of my systems because I ran out of space on it. Samsung offers free downloadable Drive Migration software for Windows (produced by Clonix according to their documentation) to automatically copy an old drive to a new drive, expand the partition sizes and make it bootable, so upgrading from an existing drive to the new drive is pretty easy if you use Windows: connect the drive to the PC (via SATA or USB or any other way), download and run the software, shut the machine down, swap drives and start the machine up again.
The time that it takes depends mostly on the speed of your hardware; I copied my old SSD to the new one at about 50MB/s through a USB3-to-SATA dongle. SATA to SATA would have been faster I’m sure. The Drive Magician software, also available online (for Windows, Linux and MacOS) from Samsung, lets you see some useful data such as the total amount of data written (so you can see when your drive is wearing out), temperature, free space etc.
It also lets you run a benchmark, and it lets you over-provision the drive (i. e. reserve some space to be used as spare storage for when sectors start to wear out and fail — it should take many years before that happens).
Now the cons: I use this system for Windows software development and I’ve noticed that since I got this QVO drive, whenever I do a full rebuild of a large project, my Visual Studio sometimes completely stops responding.
I’ve read some information about how these drives work and I think the problem is that the large compile job with many small files that are read and written at pretty much the same time, fills up the cache memory on the drive, and slows the system down.
Visual Studio will complete the job, but it’s pretty much impossible to do anything else at the same time. I bought this SSD somewhat on a whim because I noticed it was one of the cheapest for its capacity.
But I think I’ll move this to another system that has less of a need for fast storage, and I’ll get another faster SSD (based on different technology and probably unfortunately more expensive) for this system.
Write it off as a learning experience.

Added this to my PS5 and it provides some needed storage. I do notice that the system runs hotter and louder when using a game installed on the Firecuda SSD. I have noticed some lags on the system. I have also received some crashes i didnt have before the install.
When playing a game from the Firecuda and pressing start, i can hear the fan and system get softer but, as soon as i resume the game, it gets louder again. It also does this when holding the PS button.
Not sure what that’s about. Also, For some reason, putting this in was trickier than adding an ssd to my ps4. It was hard to tell when sliding the SSD in the slot if it was placed completely in correctly as there was no click noise or feedback.
The PS5 or the Firecuda did not come with the NVME screw so i had to pay $15 for a pack of them as I couldn’t just find one at the hardware store. It was extremely hard to remove the bay screw from the PS5 and i had to use a lot of force.
Some online searches show others had similar experiences. So far this thing has held up and my ps5 is still alive so for the most part everything seems fine. I prefer to run things on the PS5 ssd because of less fan noise and cooler run.
Time will tell if this thing holds up. Sony should have released proprietary SSD’s like Xbox.
I admit that this drive is EXPENSIVE but completely worth it. I play a lot of games, so many that I have always expanded my consoles in some way, either I got a console with a lot of memory or I did it myself.
This thing is blazing fast and extremely easy to install once you figure out how to take off the ps5 cover without breaking it. I honestly struggled more with that stupid plastic cover than slotting the ssd in and securing it with the screw.
It’s a perfect fit and it’s plug and play. Once you get your system back on, the PlayStation will pick it up immediately and ask you to format it and that’s honestly it. Congratulations you’re good to go! Also you can still use an external drive if that is your prerogative, just plug it back in after you format the ssd, it won’t pick it up otherwise.
Moving the games took seconds, like it’s literally insane how fast it is. My advice if you’re looking for a good amount of memory but don’t want to drop the money for a 4TB, get a 2TB and no lower, the write and read speeds are not simply there.
The drives can go up to the speeds that are advertised on the box but it’s a different story once you plug that drive in, with everything the more memory you have the better performance you’re going to get out of it.
Keep that in mind when you’re trying to make your purchase. Hope this helps!.
I purchased this drive to use as the main OS drive in my desktop PC and the performance is amazing and consistent. It looks great too however the chonky heatsink doesn’t really affect performance as read and write tests over an extended period consistently resulted in the same speeds.
Drive temps with and without the heatsink were negligible as there was only a 2c difference on average. However it does look pretty slick! Unless a heatsink has fins, grooves, or something to increase surface area they generally dont offer much cooling.
However I did notice that the drive heated up to operating temps quicker without the heatsink which makes sense given the heatsink absorbed the heat causing the drive to heat up a lot slower but once max temps were reached they were the same as no heat sink.
Ultimately either way the performance was the same! Which goes to show the quality of the drive is pretty good! I certainly will buy again!.

The conclusion of our internal SSD for PS4 Pro investigation is that this drive is indeed a suitable upgrade for your console. If you’re looking to improve load times and overall performance, then this is a great option.
Although it is more expensive than a standard hard drive, the benefits are definitely worth the cost.
