20 Best Hand Crank Ice Cream Maker (2023 Updated)

Ever since I was a kid homemade ice cream has been a big thing in my family. I finally got my own ice cream maker and get to share that experience my children. Unfortunately the lid of the metal canister came broken.

I was so anxious I just taped it up and it still works GREAT! This ice cream maker is really quiet. I love that this can be used indoors. It is pretty quick also if you think ahead that you want to make the ice cream and you freeze the metal canister for about 4 hours prior to making.

This was a great experience for the whole family. We made the ice cream mixture together and then it was so fun for the kids to watch the ice cream church! I definitely recommend this ice cream maker to anyone and everyone! It works GREAT!.

My friend got me this thing for my birthday and it’s the best thing ever! A very cute icecream maker. Comes in 3 pieces that are easy to assemble and clean. The plastic spoon doesn’t seem to work as well as an actual spoon when stirring. Stirring and scraping will definitely take time, patience and muscles.

The container holds 5 oz, but 3 oz is more manageable in making icecream to allow the user to be able to scrape in enough time before hardening. I would suggest this for someone doing keto – a simple dessert of heavy cream and strawberries.

I bought this because I wanted to make sugar-free frozen treats. Until it was in my house, I never saw one word about it being unsuitable for use with sugar substitutes. As I am diabetic, it’s not really an option to use sugar in anything I make.

I will try it with reduced sugar, but probably gift it to someone who can really use it. Disappointing.

We bought this to be able to make homemade ice cream for our grandchildren who are allergic to eggs. It has been a great purchase! We bring it out on the pool deck and make ice cream while the babies are in the pool.

It is easy to use, clean and store. We have made 2 of the included recipes and they were delicious.

Our family loves ice cream especially homemade ice cream, the 6 quart is such a large amount, this is such a great option. The kids loved making ice cream in a small container and it is super easy to use! I can’t wait to try all the recipes that come with this as well.

The only issue I have is the small area to pour salt into, seems you can get salt into the ice cream if you aren’t careful.

I’ve used this new appliance multiple times and it’s easy to use! I now keep extra ice on hand all the time. stopped buying the store bought ice cream as there is no comparison. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this.

i have 2 of the Nostilgia freezers a 4 quart and a 6 quart. They are beautifully made excellent quality of workmanship but they won’t freeze ice cream. The problem is the paddle inside the cannister that holds your mix is to small.

As the ice cream freezes on the inside of the cannister the paddle is supposed to scrape it off but its to small and the ice cream builds up on the wall and just stays there so the mix in the center of the cannister never gets to freeze and the best you can get is milk shake consistancy.

They should pay me for this information that there engineers should have known when they designed this thing. i would be happy to demonstrate this to them against an old freezer i have that will freeze ice cream 10 times better than these things will.

My mother bought this ice cream maker for me. It’s awesome. It comes with a recipe book and simple instructions. It’s easy to use and clean. I like having different options of flavors from the same brand as well.

I love making memories with my kids who enjoy helping me make them ice cream during the summer. Oh and the color of course is my favorite color, extra points there.

Super fun to do with the family. My kids absolutely loved it. It’s easy when you buy the packets that go with it to make the ice cream because it brings it down to three simple ingredients. It can get a little messy with the rocksalt and the ice so be prepared for some clean up afterwards.

The ice cream tastes amazing and is the perfect homemade texture when done. I don’t like that the canister has to be cold to start it takes up a huge amount of room in the freezer but I guess if you only put it in there before you know you’re going to use that all is well.

Solid icecream maker. A few things to consider when using it. You need quite a bit of ice to make the icecream so buy a bag. It recommends to store the icecream in the metal cylinder but the thing is a bit large to store in the freezer and is so cold when you take it out to get some icecream you will get frost bite trying to handle it so transfer the icecream to another freezer safe container for storing.

Otherwise a decent product that I hope to experiment with various recipes.

I’ve tried out a few out of the many ice cream recipes which I found included in the instructions handbook. The first time I used this ice cream maker I was able to make some of the best tasting home-made vanilla ice cream I’ve had to date.

I brought this with me to a family get together at my in-laws and it was a huge party favorite. It’s easy to use, just prepare the ingredients for the ice cream, add the ice and rock salt, plug in and let the machine do the rest.

Every once in awhile I would need to add a little more ice and rock salt. I also was really impressed by how easy clean up was. This is the first ice cream maker I have used and I’d recommend it. I plan on using this for family barbecues this summer and my kids are always asking for more!.

I purchased this for my daughter. SHE LOVES IT. It came with bowls and lids. I got her an electric one but she hated it because the ice went all over the place but this one is easy to use and comes with the bowel to catch the ice.

Definitely would purchase again.

I had a similar device when I was younger and remembered shaving frozen juices and puddings. This one is good except it is kinda flimsy. Also, I don’t like that after shaving half the block, it just starts spinning in the case when you crank.

I do like that it comes with 3 cups (my old one only came with 2). I think this is a great value for the cost. And I love the concept of freezing any liquid and turning it into a slushy/shaved ice. It’s really great for healthy options too!.

I had a Rival Ice cream maker very similar to this one. I was excited to get a new one after many years of use. So I tried this brand as it looks identical to the Rival. First of all the biggest issue is that the lid doesn’t lock into place.

The more it churns and the thicker the ice cream gets, the lid pops off. I have to stand there and hold it. The next major issue is that the paddle is so cheaply made that it falls out of the hole in the lid multiple times.

It has a difficult time churning because it’s so flimsy. Basically, you get very soft serve ice cream because the important parts of the machine won’t hold together to churn it more. This was a waste of money and I’m going to start looking for a different brand.

Don’t waste your money!.

Just recently purchased this little ice cream maker for my husband and myself. Ive made three different versions of vanilla ice cream. The maker preformed excellent on all three. The recipes how ever two left were left wanting, the third was exactly what we were looking for in a homemade ice cream recipe plus it was simple.

Love this little ice cream maker. Would I recommend defiantly. Here is the good recipe. 2 cups heavy cream 2 1/4 cups milk 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 teasp. salt 1 tabsp. vanilla (Madagascar) Directions; Put milk and sugar in a container and whisk until sugar is dissolved add remaining ingredients stir.

Pour into ice cream maker, and turn on for 30 min.

Takes 45-60 mins to get somewhat creamy, never actually reaches true ice cream consistency though (remains too soft). Occasionally (for unknown reason) it freezes to the sides of bowl and builds up too much causing the paddle to catch and push the lid off, ice cream splatters and you have to scrape the sides down and sometimes start over.

It’s an okay product to learn on that’s not super expensive. Since we are enjoying homemade ice cream tastes we will be investing in a higher quality maker.

I bought this to help teach my grandkids and my great grandkids how great it was growing up on a farm, to have ice cream that you make with your own two hands and how snow is also used to help in making the ice cream.

When I got this churn the first thing I made was strawberry ice cream and it turned out perfect. If I had to say yah or nay get it , the recipes are everywhere. I ask the kids for their favorites and that is what I make.

Making the ice cream in the summer buy 2 -10lb bags of ice cubes and ice cream salt. Buy this you can crank it or use the electric churn. The 6 quarts are great or use 1 1/2 quarts what ever you need.

Buy it for Christmas and surprise them. THE BEST IS ENJOY.

Ok, I purchased this ICM6C in Aug of 2014 and have made 4 attempts at getting this ice cream maker to produce a quality bucket of cream. The first time it leaked as quickly as the ice melted and never produced a frozen cream after 2 hrs of run time.

The next two attempts made a slushy cream but it wasn’t frozen. Today I had a group of men over for dinner. The highlight of the dinner was to celebrate 3 birthdays. With that in mind, I started the ICM early and got it to the point where the cream just needed to set a little longer and freeze up.

I covered it up and left in the icy salt water for that purpose. When we got ready for the celebration part of the meal, the cream had melted back to a slushing drink instead of an expected frozen bowl of quality cream.

I have never had this happen on any other ice cream maker I’ve owned or operated in my 55 yrs of experience. Don’t get sucked in on this attractive bucket cause that’s all it is.

this freezer was a hit , i gave as a gift i was so proud of it. it is beautiful to look at a good size a 6 quart and can be used for family gatherings or church socials. expecially for when the youth minister, ask for volunteers to bring freezers of ice cream.

I received this for Mother’s day and am so delighted with it. I had some trial and error with it but here is what I found to be successful! Everything must be cold-the metal container should be in freezer at least 24 hrs- the ice cream mixture/recipe should be in refrigerator at least 12 hours- must put mixture in ice cream maker as quickly as possible to keep maker frozen- cover the hole in top with pot holder or something to keep the cold in while making-all recipes should be made cold before freezing, as above, whether it states that or not! I just made chocolate according to the recipe book that came with it and it was finished in 25 minutes and tastes awesome! It now takes me only 25 minutes max to make ice cream.

Put in container- and cover with saran to seal and then put lid on and put in freezer for a couple of hrs. The chocolate I just made was ready to eat out of the maker but most you need to freeze a couple hours! Love, Love, Love this!!!.

I got to relive a piece of my childhood. It has been many years since I have enjoyed the taste of homemade ice cream and this ice cream maker does the job well. It appears to be well made albeit a bit noisy.

However it’s an ice cream maker and they are motorized. If you want quiet ice cream buy a hand crank model or buy a carton from the store. I used a recipe from the instruction model for easy ice cream mix.

Two cups of Half and Half, one cup of whipping cream, one half cup of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. It came out perfect after forty minutes of mixing. I had the freezer container in my freezer for over 24 hours.

Make sure to make your mix then take the container out, put the beater and the cover on, pour in the mix and turn on the button. DO NOT take out the freezing container until you are ready to use it! The leftover ice cream froze up nicely in a Tupperware container too.

This is a great little machine. I highly recommend it!.

I only used this once. It’s a little noisy but it does the thing! For the price, I think it was well worth it. Once the ice cream is made, it still needs to be put in the freezer (based on the frozen level preferred).

I am not sure if that’s normal for ice cream makers. This is my 1st ice cream maker, I am by no means an expert. It’s likely an ice cream maker for a beginner.

This machine makes a very smooth ice cream with a great recipe in record time. I used JoyOfBaking’s philadelhpia ice cream recipe and added 1/4 cup more sugar to reduce the ice formation and finally got a really smooth ice cream.

Once done, it will have a consistency similar to Dairy Queen’s soft serve but freezing the batch will harden it up nicely too. It will hold about 4-5 cups of liquid leaving just enough room to churn the liquid into ice cream.

Makes the ice cream in 20 mins. The freezing bowl is small enough to fit into my Igloo mini fridge freezer only using about 1/3 of the space. This is a perfect size machine to make ice cream for about 1-4 people in one setting.

I LOVE my new ice cream maker!! Four years ago, we moved from a mid-Atlantic state where mom and pop homemade ice cream shops were plentiful, to coastal Georgia, where at least six months of the year the weather is brutally hot and surprisingly, there are very few places to get a cone or dish of ice cream.

We miss going out for ice cream terribly. Our kids came to the rescue and surprised me with a Cuisinart Pure Indulgence Ice Cream Maker for Mothers Day! I have made fresh strawberry ice cream, chocolate ice cream, and, (of course!)Georgia Peach Ice Cream.

They are all wonderful!! The ice cream maker is easy to use, also. My next batches will be of a lower fat sorbet variety. There’s so many interesting recipes to try. This truly was the best gift EVER!! I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing a Cuisinart Pure Indulgence Ice Cream Maker.

This item was listed as missing lid. What wasnt said was that its impossible to make ice cream with the parts that arent missing. Apparently, the lid is necessary to rendering this item functional. Had I known that, I wouldnt have bought it; now, Im stuck with it, hoping I can jury rig something that will render it capable of producing home made ice cream.

I purchased this ice cream maker about a year ago. I could not be happier with it. Not only does this particular model have the electric motor, it also comes with the hand crank just in case you ever want to make ice cream the old fashioned way.

The only thing I can think of that was a negative is that the one I purchased was black and you could clearly see where they painted over the wood as some of the wood shows through. But that in no way affects the maker and it doesn’t bother me at all.

It is loud when the motor is turning but again, that does affect how the ice cream is made. It can be difficult to align the beater with the part that snaps on to spin it but once you get the hang of it, you will be good to go.

This model makes 2 quarts which lasts our family of 5 about a week. I am very pleased with my ice cream maker. This is excellent for beginners because I had never made ice cream before but I was able to get right through it with no problems.

My husband and I really wanted an ice cream maker when we got married and registered for three different kinds. We received this one as a gift and were so excited. It looks really nice with the wood on the outside.

However, we found that it did not perform well. There is a plastic crank you use as part of the process when you are making the ice cream. We had a really difficult time getting the crank to turn properly.

We found it to be too loose with no way to tighten it. After multiple attempts, we decided this was not the best ice cream maker. I would not recommend this product. We did not have a good experience with this product.

Performance We could not get good ice cream because we could not get the crank to work properly. Durability It was not durable from the start for us. Ease of Use Most aspects are easy to use except for the crank.

That is not easy to use at all. Ease of Cleaning It is really not bad to clean. Capacity I thought the capacity on this brand was good. It will make a lot of ice cream at one time. Design The crank is too loose and does not give you good ice cream.

Upon washing and drying thoroughly, place the maker flat in the coldest part of the freezer. This will enable a balanced freezing with the internal solution being as cold as possible. For each batch, work quickly and with patience to make the flavors of your choice.

We began with our cream and add-in ingredients chilled from the refrigerator prior to creating our individual batches. The completed texture is more like soft serve and can be firmed up by being placed in the freezer for more time in another container while continuing to make more ice cream.

I liked that this gadget did not take too much room in the freezer however it took too much time for very little yield. We are a family of 3 and it takes about 5 minutes to make 1/2 cup of ice cream.

That’s all you can really make at one time and I would probably be content with that but the ice cream turns out quite runny even after putting ice cream in the freezer for 30 mins before using sweet spot.

It was fun to do for the first time but I can see that the novelty will wear off soon. I will return this item and just have to make more room in the freezer for our other ice cream maker.

I have used this several times. It doesn’t work as well if I freeze the sweet spot in my side by side refrigerator. It is much better when frozen in my deep freezer. It is easy to use and makes decent ice cream.

If you like soft ice cream, you will love this. I love that you don’t have all those “extra ingredients” in home made ice cream made with a sweet spot.

I was so looking forward to make ice cream with my grandkids ! Nowhere does it say you have to put the bowl in your freezer over night , BEFORE you can even use it , plus another time in the freezer after the ice cream has been made.

Didn’t even look at the instructions after all this hidden information , I put the box away ☹️.

The ice cream maker did the job as they say it would do , my only initial problem was trying to open it up after closing it. Otherwise it worked well thanks.
