20 Best Hair Product For Slicked Back Hair
1. Olaplex Bonding Oil, No. 7 – 30 ml
Formulated to help reduce frizz for a smooth texture
This moisturizing oil offers nourishment to your hair
Heat protection property helps keep your hair safe and healthy
A highly-concentrated, weightless reparative styling oil. Dramatically increase shine, softness, and color vibrancy. Minimizes fly-aways and frizz. Provides heat protection of up to 450??. Directions of use 1.
Remove cap. 2. Turn the bottle upside down and gently tap the index finger on the bottom of the bottle to dispense a metered drop. 3. Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair, style as desired.
This is the lightest heat protector I’ve used. My hair is very thin, seems to get thinner every day. Breaking off, dry, damaged, highlights, curly and thin. Most heat protectants make my hair feel like there’s something in it, which makes me feel like I need to wash it again.
which kinda adds even more damage because I’ve been trying to just wash 2-3x/week because I use the blow dryer brush then straightening iron afterwards to reduce frizz. My hair is seriously in bad shape lately so I’m glad I found a lightweight heat protector.
It’s so light part of me wonders if I’m using enough. I hope it helps with the fried hair. To dispense it, I just turn the bottle over and tap the bottom A small drop comes out, and I use between 15-25 drops each time.
The instructions say to use “a metered drop” but I don’t feel like that’s enough even though my hair is super thin, and shoulder length. Maybe I’m wrong, I’d love some feedback on how many drops everyone uses and I would also love to know like.
how heat protectors work. Obviously it can’t reduce all the damage. but, maybe how much % less damage do you get when you use this? I like it because it’s lightweight and you’d have to spend a lot of time getting too much out, so I don’t run the risk of using too much product, because I have a bad habit of that since my hair is in such bad shape.
I’m always trying to add more products to make it “appear” healthier. I also use the #3 and I really like that. About to purchase my 2nd bottle of that along with the primer and hopefully it will help my hair out.
This is a small bottle but it will DEFINITELY last me probably close to a year. maybe a little less, but close, so it seems worth it to me. Adds a pretty shine, doesn’t help my flyaways much, I guess I just have too many at the current moment :(.
I’m so in love with this oil I’ve been buying it as gifts for friends and family! It’s almost a dry oil it’s so lightweight, but very very effective at smoothing hair and eliminating frizz, I have thick hair but don’t usually get on well with oils, often ending up greasy looking even when applying as little as possible, very frustrating when you’ve just done your hair! I suffer from poor health which has led to me spending several months in hospital over the last few years, and my hair certainly showed the damage to my overall wellbeing – in fact I had to have a huge chunk cut off because it was just a ball of tangled, broken strands.
Since I began using this I’ve noticed a massive difference, it’s almost like my hair has been laminated, it remains perfectly straight after blow drying and straightening, and is so silky that I could honestly go a few days without brushing it and it wouldn’t have any tangles at all, brilliant for me as my disability makes haircare difficult for me to do alone.
The texture of my hair is so soft even several days after washing, not greasy, just lovely satiny strands! My mum raves about this too now that I’ve introduced her to it, she has naturally very curly but fine hair, which equals major frizz as she lives in a hot and humid climate, she has also noticed how this oil keeps your hair behaving itself for days, even when it’s been abused through blow drying and straightening.
It lasts forever too since it’s so concentrated, I’m on the same bottle used for the last 8 months and there’s about 3/4 left! Definitely worth the price, given that it functions as heat protection, anti frizz, nourishing treatment, and shine perfecting, I don’t see the need to add any other products to my post wash regime!.
After constantly struggling with extremely dry, damaged hair I decided to try Olaplex and although the other products in this line weren’t magical, this oil is. I’ve tried several ways to help bring my hair back to life and was about to give up.
I cut my hair up to my shoulders from about armpit length ( my hair also barely grows due to breakage) and purchased the olaplex No 7, and the Kerastase resistance Shampoo and Conditioner designed for damaged weak hair.
I wash my hair every other day or sometimes skip 2 days before shampooing and just rinse and condition my hair on my between days. After my shower I put 2 shakes of this oil in my hair when it is still pretty damp but not soaking wet and finger comb my hair.
Then in the morning when my hair is completely dry I add one or two more shakes into my palms, rub my hands together, and run my fingers throughout my hair and then pretend I’m doing a pony tail to really coat the top layer of my hair.
This oil smells really good with a light scent and is very lightweight so I think it would be difficult to over do it but I’d still recommend starting small until you know your perfect amount for your own hair type and length.
My hair feels extremely soft and healthy ( I know the haircut helped a ton with that ) but even the top of my hair feels amazing and no longer dry from breakage due to blow drying and straightening. If you only wanna try 1 thing from Olaplex try this product first.
I think personally it’s the best of all their products and will last you a VERY long time so it is well worth the almost $30. Also try Kerastase if you are really struggling with your hair! Much love, Sam.
Kenra Volume Spray Finishing Hair Spray gives a super, all-day hold, and contains a fast-drying formula for finishing any style. Imparts maximum volume and control. Provides excellent humidity resistance.
It will ultimately provide the maximum amount of volume and hold possible. This hairspray will leave your hair hair looking natural and shiny while imparting the strength and volume necessary to make any style last all day long.
I first tried this hairspray as a travel size from target for a trip. When I got home, I purchased the biggest bottle I could find. While it’s definitely pricey for a hairspray, I love this product and keep repurchasing! I have thick, long, wavy/curly hair, and this gives the hold I need without ever being too crunchy or stiff.
My hair needs something substantial to tame it and this keeps my style put for the whole day! Smells like typical hairspray, but nothing too strong or off putting, I don’t smell it on me longer than a few minuted.
I always try and buy the biggest bottle possible when it comes to my hairspray. I like to use it throughout my styling and I don’t have any issues with my hair becoming too hard or difficult to style with.
It smells great on top of it, are used to use big sexy but I have decided to stick with Kenra based on my experience over the last several years. If you’re not sure if you love it, just buy a smaller bottle or try out the tester at the store! It lasts a good while to on top of it.
I hardly ever have to restock even though I style weekly. .
I have been looking for 5 years now for a replacement for my HG hairspray Redken Pure Force 16 since they discontinued it. I had high hopes for this one because it was Non-Aerosol which I prefer and was suppose to hold well.
I will say the hold was ok. But I had 2 problems with it this hairspray. First, the smell. Super Strong and smell lasted all day. Not chemical smelled almost herbal. And second it went on very wet and took a long time to dry down.
So for a person like me with short, fine hair it just weighed my hair down. In addition, when I purchase it in the store I noticed that on one of the bottles the pump was broken. And on the other the pump would not go down.
So I’m thinking there may be a problem with the pump mechanism as well on this hairspray. But for me this was a no go so I have to Return it.
Hydrating Styling Cream conditions, hydrates and tames frizzy hair. This leave-in, moisture-rich styling cream creates a soft, natural feel. Perfect for blow-drying, smoothing flyaways and refreshing styles the next day, this nourishing, argan oil-infused hair styling cream adds shine and definition with a soft hold.
Pros: Seals cuticle before styling, acts as a styling barrier, smooths, softens, adds mega shine, smells wonderful, If you have long thick hair that doesn’t style well this basically forces it to relax and conform.
Cons: You must know your limits with the amount you use, it may take a few uses to find the correct amount to not make hair greasy. Also, it is very expensive. This stuff is top tier. I have very long, thick, wavy, course hair that has multiple levels of porosity from older damage.
This transforms my hair almost completely. If you are someone that has to straighten hair BEFORE you curl it because it so frizzy/wavy this will help drastically! I still have to straighten my baby curl/waves around face but it helps smoothen and almost re-texturize my hair.
Depending on how much hair you have you will want to put on less or more. With my hair being lower mid back length I use a glob a little bigger than a quarter and start from my ends up and then put in a clip bun to help air dry and seal product in so it doesn’t hit my back and shirt creating a product or wet spot.
i have thin, fine, curly hair (that i straighten) and have always been wary of any styling product that isn’t mousse or hairspray because EVERYTHING either weighs it down or makes it greasy (or both).
having been bleaching my hair for the last year though i really needed something more moisturizing to keep the frizz under control and give it more shine and this??? 10/10. i use one pump on my wet hair before blow drying, then usually another half pump after to smooth it down a bit before using a flat iron, then a little bit more to finish if i feel like i need it.
my hair is VERY short so believe me when i say even using that much product doesn’t weight my hair down or make it greasy, even if i put it right on the roots (which i do sometimes to control my frizzy baby hairs).
it makes my hair so soft and shiny and manageable, which is incredible given the list of things i put my hair through on a regular basis.
This stuff is the real deal. I have thick, coarse, damaged, and extremely dry long type 1C-2A hair that is literally impossible to tame and to hydrate. I’ve spent so much friggin money on leave ins and styling creams and serums.
I truly wish I would have just gotten this from the beginning of my hair care journey. Since I’ve been using this in combination with either the Moroccanoil hydrating leave in conditioner or the Bumble and Bumble hairdresser’s invisible oil primer my hair has been sooo soft and hydrated.
It totally seals my split ends and doesn’t make my hair feel greasy or oily. Also, it smells divine. It’s my holy grail and I’d recommend this to anyone with thick, coarse or textured hair.
Theres nothing worse than checking your reflection and seeing that your hair looks a littledeflated. That wont happen with this styling cream that makes fine, flat hair look and feel like naturally thick hair.
The formula contains Living proof. ‘s patented molecule, PBAE, which forms dots on each hair strand that add thickness and create volume. It leaves hair flexible and soft, so that the fullness looks completely naturaland lasts 5X longer.
On Baby Fine Hair and this product: I have real baby fine hair. Lots of people talk about having baby fine hair, but really don’t. It’s a mixed blessing. Straight baby fine hair is so smooth that clips, bands, etc.
can slide out of it unless there’s silicone on the inside of a clip to grip the hair. If your baby fine hair is light in color, it may be almost see-through when backlit. This is not great if you want to feel like you have a nice full head of hair.
If you take a strand of baby fine hair and hold it parallel to the floor, the strand itself is such a small diameter that it forms almost a sharp 90-degree angle hanging straight down from the edge of your fingers; no curve of any sort as it hangs down.
It’s hard for straight baby fine hair to hold a curl unless you do harsh stuff to make it hold. That, in turn, damages your hair. Almost any processing damages baby fine hair. It’s also very easy to break strands of baby fine hair so you have to comb or brush carefully.
Baby fine hair will blow everywhere if there’s the slightest breeze. In my case, that means I’ve always got messy hair. Light baby fine hair is a pain if it gets blown onto your face or into your eyelashes.
You can feel it’s there, but it’s hard to see the individual delicate strands and hard to detect them with your fingers. That’s the scoop on baby fines. You live with it and figure out how to deal with it.
BUT, straight baby fine hair can be so shiny and smooth that it can look and feel as luxurious as silk when it’s in good condition. Like babies’ hair! This can be lovely if your hair is thick enough.
I’ve tried this product as directed with bad results. The product is too oily or thick even when put on extremely sparingly, so it weighs my hair down, making it look unwashed and stringy. So, I decided to try to use it as a rinse after shampooing, and have had better luck.
I distribute it throughout the hair from roots to tips and then rinse it out. Baby fine hair people will feel a kind of stickiness or roughness once it is rinsed out, and will have to comb their hair carefully so as not to break it, but it adds product in just the right amount for real baby fine hair to have some bounce and look thicker without weighing it down or making it look greasy.
It’s not going to be a dramatic difference though. I have had far better luck with the Living Proof Thickening Mousse. After trying what feels like hundreds of conditioners, mousses and creams that did nothing, LP Mousse has been my go-to product.
It’s the only product I’ve found that makes my hair look thicker and that lasts all day looking great. It makes me feel almost like I have normal-people-hair! But I take breaks. I found that blow-drying damages my hair too easily, and the mousse, although super effective at making my hair look thicker and giving it more body, makes my hair sticky enough that I break hair easily, even when combing gently.
So, Baby Fine Sisters take note. You have to handle your hair really gently with these products. Personally, I’d opt for the LP mousse over the cream, and be gentle with my hair. Hope this info helps!.
Was on the fence between 4 and 5 stars for this one! Only went with four because I’ve only been using it a little over a week so I may have to do an update and give it a little upgrade after a month.
So my all of my stylist over the years have always recommended mousse as the type of product that would work best on my hair type. Problem was that everyone I tried (and trust me, I tried them all from the $5 drug store brands to the $50 salon brands) left my scalp a white flaky mess and my hair greasy.
Well I just took the plunge and got a pixie cut recently and really felt like I needed a good thickener that wouldn’t weigh down my fine thin hair so on the recommendation of one of Sephora’s advisors I tried this one.
So far I couldn’t be happier! It plums up my short strands and gives me amazing texture! I am not greasy the next day and so far not a single white flake in sight and my scalp feels just fine. So if you have fine, thin, and frizz prone hair I would definitely recommend giving this one a try!.
I received the Living Proof full thickening mousse free for review from PINCHme and I’ve honestly really enjoyed this product. This mousse is said to boost volume while holding your style and I would definitely agree with that claim.
Its lightweight and smells quite nice. It’s not a super airy mousse but it’s not super dense either. It doesn’t evaporate right away but it’s not heavy or sticky at all. I have pretty long hair so instead of the standard egg size I typically use maybe two egg size dallops.
It has been way too hot and humid here lately to do much with my hair, and while the directions say to blow-dry, I just can’t. I apply it to my damp hair right after my shower and then I tie it up in a bun.
When it’s fully dry and I let it down, it’s so full of volume and the texture is lovely. The waves are beautiful and they do hold all day. Many products of this type cause my hair to get frizzy and almost static like but this one doesn’t do that.
I get no flyaways or frizz with this mousse and my hair smells so great. It’s a nice, light clean smell, very subtle. I’ve really enjoyed using this product and I would definitely recommend it. Oh, and I like the packaging as well.
The button you press to dispense the mousse is a nice solid button. For those of us that have hands and fingers that might not work so well, I had no issues.
Wavy and curly hair can easily lose its definition-Curl Defining Cream brings it back. Advanced heat-activated technology provides intense conditioning and activates a curl memory factor to keep hair bouncy and control frizz for hours.
Argan oil and protein condition, detangle and tame curls, so hair remains smooth and frizz-free with great movement.
I love trying out new curly hair products and sometimes it takes some trial and error to get the right amount or application technique, but I was so happy with the results with this curl defining cream from the first use.
This is definitely one of the best curl defining cream products I have ever used and I have consistently had good results with it. For reference I have fine textured 2C/3A curl pattern hair and I like products that enhance the definition without weighing down my hair too much & sacrificing volume, which I feel this product did well.
I applied it (as I typically do with cream products) on soaking wet hair under gel and diffused it dry. A little goes a long way on my hair type and I used a pea sized amount on two sections with good results.
This product has a pleasant scent that isn’t overpowering. I appreciate that this product is formulated without sulfates, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, etc.
as many of these ingredients are ones that I try to avoid for my curls. I also appreciate that this product comes in recyclable packaging. The price point of this product is higher than I usually pay for similar products but because a little goes a long way and my results were good, I would consider spending this amount on it.
I will continue to use and would recommend to others.
I received this as a sample to try out, and let me say, as a natural curly haired girl I am always looking for a new holy grail curl product. I have tried some of the other Moroccanoil products in the past but this is my personal favorite I’ve tried so far.
My first time testing this product, I applied it by itself after my usual wash and go. After letting my hair air dry, I noticed my curls had great definition and I was immediately excited. I went about my usual schedule and was pleased to see my curls still stayed together throughout the course of my day.
It also made my hair superrr soft which is always a nice addition. Although this product is great for defining your curls, I had to give it 4 stars as I found it was lacking in the hold department and it did not do much to combat additional frizz.
I love when leave-in products put a slight cast over your curls, as I find that helps tremendously for day 2 and day 3 curls. If you prefer a little more hold like me, I would strongly recommend following this up with a styling gel-type of product.
I have gotten so many compliments on days I work this product into my routine. While this curl defining cream is not quite a holy grail leave-in that will replace all of your other products, it is a wonderful addition to your curly hair routine.
I kind of hate how much I ended up liking this product. I’ve been devoutly curly girl method for a few years now, and I actually can’t remember the last time I used heat on my hair. I’m pretty proud of myself, actually.
Even stopped dying my hair! So, in the interest of living that low bar lifestyle, I also don’t want or need to wash my hair often, and my styling routine is kept to a minimum. Nothing complicated, no plopping, no clipping roots.
Just a good gel and a good scrunch and a microfiber towel. Bam, done. So, enter this Moroccan Oil Curl Defining Cream. After I washed and conditioned, then upside-down detangled with a wide-toothed comb and denman brush, I first scrunched in a generous amount of cream.
I honestly probably used too much—I think a smaller amount goes kind of a long way. Which is good, because the price tag isn’t exactly low. After a good scrunching, I sealed it in with Deva Curl gel.
A lot of reviewers used the cream on its own, and I considered doing that, but I figured I would have the best results using both. And I believe I was correct. After scrunching out the excess water and product with my microfiber waffle towel, I could already tell that my hair was looking nicer than usual.
My curls clumped juuust a little bit nicer, the waves just slightly more defined, less frizzy, and somehow more body, even though I air dried. It was a noticeably better-than-usual hair day. And I kinda hate it for a few reasons: (1) it’s not cheap; (2) I’m not jumping at adding an additional step to my low bar routine; (3) I don’t think this is actually a CGM-approved product; and (4) my sample sent for testing was just that—a sample—and I would have loved to have received a full size because I liked it so much! 😭😭💸.

BENEFITS Smooths and holds Non-greasy, non-flaking formula developed to smooth hairline Great for holding down flyaways and slicking back the hair into buns, ponytails, top knots, afro puffs, and more! Age Group: adult.
Having low porosity hair, I Love to water down my products and a curl cream like this works so well for me. I use this product almost every day even if I’m just touching up a few sections or need a little bit of moisture.
Its thick enough to stand alone without a gel so its great to have a curl cream that defines my curls even before applying gel. I just did a big chop less than a month ago and discovered this line just in time.
My hair feels so healthy and moisturized! This product has really become a staple for me and I will definitely be keeping this in my wash day and styling routines.
This product is a must! It’s become a staple for my wash and gos and my twist/braid outs. I’m currently transitioning (due to heat damage) so finding the right products to help define and lift up my curls is so tricky.
This product has completely filled that void for me. My curls are more defined and moisturized when using this. I like using this along with the Fro Butter from this line for added moisture.
I use this with the afro sheen 4 in 1 leave in for wash and goes when the weather gets colder I switch from using a gel styler to a cream styler. Provides great moisture and weight to get my 4a hair to be less frizzy.
A matte finish no shine hair pomade that washes out with water and contains natural ingredients such as coconut oil, jojoba seed oil and lavender oil. Remains pliable for restyling all day without getting hard or brittle.
No shine – healthy matte finish. This is another premium product in the premium blends line. It took suavecito many years and many attempts before they created a product they are proud to put their name on.
IšverstiShow in original languageNot sure what changed but this is NOT the same product in the can as what I’ve used for years! Customer service says nothing has changed. Either customer service doesn’t know or customer service is lying.
Product use to be a white color clay that smelled great, it stayed white until you worked it in your hands and hair. What’s in the can now is grey, no aroma and when you rub it in your hands there’s no color and it immediately just turns to a clear “wetness” in your hand.
This was my absolute favorite product for years. Not anymore! And the fact that no one within the company knows why or even acknowledges this makes it even worse! Do not buy!.

Reviews From Real Customers
I know it’s hard to justify buying Olaplex or any product that cost more then the average. This product is %100 worth it. I have fine oily hair that gets damaged at the ends as I am a blonde so I use this as a leave in treatment.
I usually get two to three days between washes thanks to the holy grail of dry shampoos the one by redkin in the pink can. Anyway the night before I wash my hair I lather this through then comb it an hour before going to bed.
Let me tell you the absolute difference in my hair as I use the Olaplex shampoos and conditioner as well has been life changing. My hair is so much softer and easier to style it doesn’t have that brittle crunchy feel.
It took about a month for me to really see results and I was getting compliments. Also I have oily hair and the shampoo and conditioner from Olaplex doesn’t make it any more oily so I switched to it.
I also now add in the purple shampoo they have. My hairs under my ears in a bob I dry it with my daughters Dyson then just put a few loose curls on the top layer and around the face leaving the ends out just to give my hair texture (ps.
The new ghd is amazing I think it’s called ghd platnium I got the white, when they say you only have to go over your hair once they mean it. I tried using it as a straightener the other day for something different my hairs medium and I only had to go over each section once.
It’s amazing. I will say just in this side note it’s not as long in length as the older versions so if you have really long hair maybe look in store first. If you are skilled in using a straightner you will be ok it’s just I noticed straight away how much shorter it was, but for me it’s great as I have a bob.
) ok back to Olaplex it is a system and they do recommend using the system together, but as I have oily hair this is just not a product I’d put in then my mousse and style my hair as it’s oily. If you have thicker or course hair or very damaged hair that doesn’t get oily this is your product.
Hope this review helps someone and remember when buying hair care products for yourself think like me this is a form of self care. Hair means a lot to a lot of people and you feel good when it looks good.
I heard SO much hype about this company and was excited to try it out as my hair was damaged by chemical processing at a salon. However, I’m Very disappointed overall… I bought the full recommended products for my hair and some extras as my hair is really long… based on their quiz…however my hair is so now MORE dry and frizzy from it… Worse than it was before! The only product I felt was nice to use was the shampoo because it felt very moisturizing and didn’t feel like it stripped my hair…until I added the conditioner…then after rinsing it my hair felt so dry and crunchy! I also am not impressed with the smell of the products.
I like my hair to smell really good and last… but this doesn’t do it for me. Each product smells different and you can barely smell them. and I don’t like mint smell in my hair products unless it’s a clarifying product.
The other thing about this company I was not impressed with was their lack of customer service! If you buy from the company directly and need to return your products for a full refund, you have to mail it all the way to California and you have to pay for shipping and also don’t get your initial shipping cost returned! And then you have to WAIT till they get it in the mail before they refund you anything… There needs to be a better system where you can initiate a return and get a shipping label.
To return it, like all other companies do now in this age…very backwards. Won’t purchase this again and especially not from them!.
Look, I like this product. it smooths/protects hair during any heat styling (yet I don’t heat style much-once a month tops), and it’s pretty good at handling frizz when air drying, and I’d use this product more BUT it causes excess hair shedding/loss.
Unfortunately this keeps happening with Olaplex products and my hair. I started using this after my hair dresser recommended it to me to smooth frizz, even after I told him my concerns about using Olaplex products before because they’d causes excessive hair shed and had thinned my hair out in 2020 after using their system for months (I had to use minoxidil to get my hair back to normal and it’s still thinner than ever a year and a half later).
He said he’d never heard of Olaplex products doing this. Needless to say, I liked the results and was like “maybe it’s all in my head” so I bought it. Maybe a week later my hair starts falling out in large quantities, I’m talking full handfuls with the only difference in my hair routine being this Olaplex product.
Trust your gut: I stopped using this and my hair only sheds the normal amount. I’ll never be using Olaplex products again as Olaplex ruined my hair in 2020 (Shampoo, Conditioner & Bonding Oil), and this would have continued to ruin it if I didn’t toss it where it belongs: the trash.
Breakthrough ultra-light spray (for all hair types) doesn’t build up or leave hair greasy. It feels like nothing is on the hair. Inspired by textile technology heat-activated polymer compresses tightens and seals each strand with a “waterproof cloak”.
Instantly silkens and transforms texture adds supernatural shine. Powerful humidity proofing lasts up to 3 shampoos. Speeds up blow-drying time. Directions of use Shampoo condition and divide towel-dried hair into sections.
Spray liberally and evenly on damp (not wet) hair. Dream Coat should be the last product applied to wet hair. If layering in other styling products before Dream Coat limit to Cocktails and Raise the Root.
Using other products can interfere with Dream Coat’s technology and prevent a humidity sealant from forming. Additional styling products can be used once hair is dry. Blow dry each section using tension.
If desired after blow-drying straight use a curling iron to create glossy glassy humidity-proof waves.
I have been using this product for 1. 5 months now with 2 hair wash days a week. For reference, I have thin (hair density), medium-fine (hair thickness), medium porosity (hair moisture absorption/retention).
It is considered long, layered, and recently dyed dark black; however, natural hair is already closer to brown black (just had bad balayage from 2 years ago that fades bottom). I use the revlon brush once a week and sometimes followed by hot tools.
Prior to Dreamcoat, I was trying out multi-tasking leave ins for years like Pureology Colour Fanatic, Redken One United (top 2), It’s a 10, Ouai, Olapex 6&7, Eva NYC mane magic, and Shea moisture’s styler (top 2).
My usual routine before my revlon brush would be shampoo 2x (sometimes Olapex 3 in between washes), apple cider vinegar rinse, hair mask in shower (alternating between hydration, protein, combos-based), leave-in conditioner, then Paul Mitchell’s skinny serum.
I had pretty silky hair, mostly free from split ends too. I tried dreamcoat on its own after the shower then blow dried and my hair looked shiny and bouncy. Nothing different than my usual results though, other than one-less product used.
But dreamcoat couldn’t compete with San Francisco’s humidity. After one shift at work (indoors, but public-transportation commute) my hair was frizzy at the roots! I was able to brush it smooth again that night and apply argan oil to my ends which made my hair look nice the next morning.
However, it kept getting frizzy on the days leading to my next wash so I was applying more products closer to my roots. The buildup was getting me oily faster. I think my hair needed more moisture which I would get with the multitasking leave-in then sealed and shined with skinny serum.
I also learned after 2 weeks, my hair needed more heat protectant because ends were dry and splitting. So basically, I ended up using dreamcoat 2x a week w/ heat protectant. 2 products again post-shower, but the other combos last longer w/out dryness.
For reference, my hair is 2a, almost waist length, low porosity, thick with average/slightly coarse density. It’s also darkest brown/natural black. Bc of its color & porosity, it is already very shiny.
However, I do struggle with frizz, especially after blow drying. I was recommended this product by my stylist and was very excited to try it out based on the claims. Now, because of how my hair is, I know that no matter what it says on the bottle, I will need at least twice that amount of product.
I read the reviews before buying this and knew it wouldn’t last me long. One use is about 1/4 of the full size bottle for me, at minimum. I would’ve been okay with that if it worked well, but that hasn’t been my experience.
I’ve tried it twice: the first time, it did nothing, but I think it was user error — I don’t think I used enough product and I also don’t think I blow dried w/ enough tension. The second time, I used a TON of product and took a lot of time to make sure I blow dried well.
It did. a little? Right after blow drying, it was as frizzy as ever. After brushing and letting my hair cool, there was some improvement. I ended up straightening it with a bit of argan oil on the ends of my hair.
The results I got: – less frizzy (still gets frizzy easily, but I can tame it with finger combing even when out and about) – silky/ gets less tangled – my straightening lasted much longer than usual Results I didn’t get: – glass hair (my hair is no shinier than usual, though it’s always pretty shiny) – lasting through shampoos – no frizz (definitely still get it, just maybe 50% less and easier to tame) I believe the hype, I honestly think it just doesn’t work as well on my hair (and with my skill level — I wouldn’t be surprised if a professional could get it to work).
Based on the results I got, I’m more likely to try another product for this issue instead of repurchasing. I just don’t think it’s worth the price for the results I got & how much I had to use !.
I’m going to break this review up in to three sections: 1. My hair type/hair products I typically use 2. The climate that I live in 3. My experience with the product Hair type: I have hair slightly past my shoulders that is professionally color treated monthly (root touch ups) to cover grays.
I style it on a nearly daily basis with at least a blow dryer, and several times a week, a curling wand. My hair has a slight wave to it naturally, and it is thick. My hair dresser says I have “good hair” I think mainly because there is plenty of it and it does what I want it to most days.
It holds curl well, but if I blow it straight, it’s straight. My experience with styling is that if I blow dry it immediately after getting out of the shower, it frizzes. The best compromise I’ve found is to towel dry out of the shower, let it air dry while I do my makeup, eat breakfast, make my bed, etc.
and then blow it dry the rest of the way and style it. If I let it completely air dry, it’s fluffy and frizzy. I use a mixture of drug store and salon quality products and on a normal day just use shampoo, conditioner, and hair spray if I curl it.
Climate: I live in California and I’m not near the beach, so I live in a very dry climate. The only time humidity is high here is on the occasional rainy or stormy day. My experience: I used the product today for the first time.
It’s worth mentioning that I’m about a week away from my next hair appointment, and at this point in the month, my hair isn’t usually looking or feeling it’s best. (Not as smooth and shiny, just doesn’t look or feel as healthy as it does the first week and a half or so after an appointment.
) I followed the instructions on the bottle, so after a shampoo and conditioning in the shower, I towel dryed it. I then split my hair into about 6 large sections (2 on each side and 2 in the back) and sprayed each section 3 times (root, middle, ends.
) I didn’t brush my hair out at all until I’d applied the product. I then immediately blew it dry (this was different from my normal routine since as I mentioned above I typically would have let it air dry a bit,) and then used a paddle brush to blow it dry.
I then let it rest a bit while I applied my makeup before going on to style it with my curling wand. WOW. Silky, shiny, soooo healthy feeling! No residue to the touch. my hair felt lightweight and as if I’d just left the salon! It styled normally and held the style normally, but with less frizz and restored shine.
The bottle says one “coat” should last 3-4 washes, so I’m excited to see how it affects my hair over the course of the next week and to see if it holds up. Even if it doesn’t last as long as the bottle says, I think it’s worth it to at least use it for special occasions or when I really want my hair to look extra nice.
Provides medium hold & flexibility to sculpt hair. Conditions & moisturizes hair shaft for a healthy look. Easy to wash out without leaving residue on hair. Makes your hair look thicker & fuller with a natural shine.
Perfect for all hair types. To use: Apply the foam to hand palms & distribute evenly throughout damp or dry hair.
I have used the American Crew Fiber and Pomade. This product, the “Forming Cream” I would describe as the middle, the perfect balance. My hair is thick, somewhat coarse, yet soft. I wear my hair short, almost like a buzz and usually let it grow longer so that I can comb it over (by longer I’m talking 4-5 inches on the top, sometimes more).
What I didn’t like about Fiber is that it can be too clay like and usually made my hair too stiff. I found fiber to work best the shorter my hair was, but even then it was a super strong and stiff hold.
It was actually working as intended, but not to my liking. What I didn’t like about Pomade was the high shine and depending on how much used, greasy feel to my hair. And once again, you buy Pomade for the shine, so working as intended but not to my liking.
It is different, changed, now terrible quality. Have used for about 10 years and prior last purchase was the Elvis edition and was the proper scent and consistency. Now smells like an old lady’s, 1970s, hand lotion; smells of alcohol and bandaids.
Also has the watery consistency of cheap Jergens hand lotion, used to be a thicker, just short of paste, cream, and had a very pleasant musky vanilla scent. Spoke directly with a company rep and they denied a change, even though, it is obvious and there are multiple strings online stating the quality is diminished.
WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN! Would select “0” stars if possible.
So I’ve tried AC in the past it was Fiber, didn’t like so I moved on to another brand. Jack Black Clay Pomade, and loved it, been using for 7+ years, well it became out of stock so I decided to try AC Matte Clay & so glad I did, easy to work with, great hold, long lasting, no shine in my short choppy blonde hair, washes out easily, and w/ a nice scent, plus it doesn’t leave white flakes.
Can’t beat the price compared to JB, I’ll be a AC customer for the foreseeable future. Ulta also was great with super fast shipping and in stock items, the wife told me to check them out that they carried men’s item too.
Morgan’s Almond Oil/ Shea Butter Classic Pomade 100g The Morgan’s Classic Pomade conditions and controls the hair while also giving a light hold and medium shine. The coconut and sadalwood fragrance with Almod oil and Shea Butter makes the perfect texture for natural and slick back hair styles, the added shine gives it a gel look while being a pomade.
Rub desired amount gently into palms of hands. Apply to hair and style as desired.
Morgan’s is quickly becoming my go-to pomade of choice. I’ve got thick, heavy hair with a bit of a curl to it and having tried a number of pomades over the years for various old school classic cuts, the Morgan’s is definitely the best for hold and shine.
If you’ve got hair that likes to fight being styled, Morgan’s should be your weapon of choice for battle. Easy to apply, great hold and washes out easily.
I bought three Morgan’s pomade varieties. My original purchase was the yellow labelled hair darkening one which I bought by mistake. I didn’t want to tint my hair but I love how it feels. smells. and holds my hair in place all day.
I washed my hair each night which will prevent the darkening from setting in. When that jar was done I purchased the other two. The red labelled medium hold and the off tan labelled original pomade. The yellow is still my favourite so I’ll just keep washing it out.
The red one is unlike the other two. It’s clear. Not a coconut and shea butter look like the others. It’s sticky and holds harder. I’ll mix it with the original to get more of the consistency I’m looking for.
Smells fresh. Clean. Kind of citrus like. Good product but might be suited for hair needing more control.
This is the 2nd jar of Morgan’s Styling Pomade that I have bought and I love it. Bought the black label ‘firm hold’ one few months ago and recently bought the red label ‘medium hold’. They are both brilliant products and wash out of your hair so easily with no residue.
I love the smell too. P. S. I’m a lady with really short hair and I know these products are designed for men. but I don’t care, I just love them.
American Crew Pomade provides excellent hold, while remaining pliable. Excellent for the slickest look or rough texture. Apply to towel dried hair. Rub between hands and comb or brush into place. Product Features: Water based to shampoo out easily without residue.
Lanolin provides tremendous shine and pliable hold. Extremely versatile low pH (4. 8) directs strong hair lines, curly or straight hair, stays pliable. Great for slicked back or rough textured, high gloss styles.
Complex strong hold is the ultimate hold in pliable product.
The Forte Series Medium Hold Pomade is the best styling product for guys looking for the classic slick back look without the greasy shine. The firm but pliable hold will help you achieve high volume hairstyles that can be restyled throughout the day.
This unique, water-soluble formula makes it perfect for casual everyday use. It’s formulated with biotin and provitamin B-5 to nourish your hair throughout the day. Experience stronger, healthier hair after each use.
I thought it will take like 3 or 4 weeks because I live too far away from the US but this time it came within 2 weeks. They were nearly finished and if I had no Forte Series product then I had to grab the ugly cheap products from the stores.
Thanks you very much and I will be forever a Forte Series customer! The only annoying thing which is also understandable is that I can’t order the hair sprays. I really wish that I can do but anyway I love you Alex Costa and also your Team.
This pomade is hands down the BEST pomade I’ve ever used. The shine it gives is nice and subtle and exactly what I was looking for. It doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it feel greasy like a lot of other pomades out there do.
Plus I wake up with an amazing hairstyle the next day still! What more could I ask for? Honestly, nothing. Alex, you’re the man.
I love that the Pomade has a medium hold since it works perfectly for having baby hair under control. But my favorite part’s gotta be the scent. My girlfriend keeps telling me about how good my hair smells.

I bought this because a hair oil I used for years stopped being sold, and I used to love Moroccan oil in high school. I have very long hair (it’s at the small of my back and I’m 5’7″). It’s kind of a light-brown/dark-blonde with a hint of red, moderately dense, but the individual hairs are mostly fine and prone to both dry ends and oily mid-lengths.
I always use a curl cream and a hair oil to bring out my waves and keep it soft. My last oil treatment had water as the first ingredient and my hair absolutely loved it. What I liked: A little goes a very long way.
Tipping the bottle quickly to coat my fingertip was enough for my wet hair (plus a bit less on the ends when dry). It smells amazing, definitely lived up to my memory of that dreamy Moroccan oil smell.
As soon as I applied it, my hair felt wonderfully silky and easy to run my fingers through. After I let it air dry as usual, my mid-lengths were very soft, and even the dead ends felt a little nicer to touch (I really needed a haircut when I tried it).
The shine is absolutely incredible! It was glossy all the way to the ends, and didn’t make my mid-lengths stringy/oily looking (I use Sebastian dark oil now, and need to be a lot more careful with how much I apply or it gets stringy).
I got so many compliments on how shiny my hair was the next day. What I didn’t like: The first use was amazing, but after i used it for a couple weeks my hair started to feel heavy and hung straighter.
It was still shiny, but looked less full and the ends were getting more dry over time. Ultimately, I think having silicone as a first ingredient makes hair oils too heavy for me (though I’ve yet to find another with water first).
I consider this to be more like “hair makeup”. If I was going to an event I would 100% use again for the amazing glossy look and intoxicating smell. It doesn’t really make hair healthier or moisturized though, so be cautious if you plan to use it after every wash.
I received this product free in exchange for my honest review after using it. I am pleasantly surprised at the efficacy of this product overall. I personally am one who has always been a lover of any and all hair care products.
But if i am being honest, I would have to admit that I definitely discriminated against any type of oil type hair care product. I just automatically assumed without any prior knowledge that my hair would end up looking like i poured vegetable oil in it lol! And so it went that I steered clear of oil products for my hair.
So when I received this product, i was totally scared to use it. But I knew I had to use it and give my true and honest review as well after using it. Upon reading about this Moroccan Oil treatment thru various customer reviews and other sources of information, I was a bit less afraid of trying it.
But still not 100% on board with it either. Well, i gotta tell y’all how incredibly silly I feel now after using this AMAZING oil treatment!! I mean my hair though! The feel and the overall appearance of my rather unhealthy overworked hair after using this treatment, omg.
speechless! But speechless in the most positive way!! My hair felt like it had been cared for since birth by the best of the best hair care brands and it looked so incredibly lovely. I was looking at someone elses hair because there was no possible way that this could be MY hair.
But indeed it was. Wowwww! Boy was i ever wrong in my misjudgement of oil hair products. But after using Moroccan Oil hair treatment, ill likely never use any other type of hair oil treatment because this was such a positive experience for my hair.
I highly recommend this product. If you are on the fence about purchasing, Id say go for it. I am certain you will be so happy that you did! Thanks to Moroccan Oil for making me a believer!!.
The density of my hair has changed throughout the years, from the hair fibres being quite strong to becoming weak and fragile, breaking easily, becoming frizzy and fine in texture. I believe that the changes are due to Hormonal Imbalances, specifically Thyroid and Menopause.
My hair has always been ‘very’ long (I could nearly sit on it), and I’ve always taken extremely good care of it using quality products, doing regular oil treatments and having regular haircuts to keep it looking it’s best.
However, for about the last three years I’ve noticed that it has become finer and does not hold a style anymore. I struggle to get the balance right with any of my hair products, as none of them help with giving me back my shiny, healthy looking head of hair! I’ve been using Argan oil amongst other oils for a number of years now, but they are all now far too heavy for my hair making it look either too oily, dull or just making it drier.
I have been very close (. actually extremely, especially during lockdown) to having all of my hair cut off to start again. The only reason I didn’t go for the big chop, is that on reflection if my hair is also fine at the roots, then the length of it wouldn’t really make any difference as it’s the health of the hair that will give it it’s shape and shine.
So my quest continued to find a product that would make it look and feel healthy and shiny again. I also believe that it’s not because a product is expensive it will make a difference, it’s all about the ingredients and getting that balance right for your particular hair type or concern that can present a challenge, whether you buy a budget or premium product or not.
I’m also a believer in using ‘natural products’, and look for products which contain as less ingredients as possible, as well as any harmful substances. This is where I would now like to tell you how the Moroccanoil LIGHT oil treatment for fine and light coloured hair has made such a difference to my hair, that I now know when I wash my hair and leave it to Air Dry after applying approximately six drops of oil ( which is what I have been doing for a while now as ‘heat’ willl damage it further) that my hair will be softer, less frizzy and shinier! I can honestly say that this product is a ‘godsend’ and I could not live without it.
If used correctly, I promise you that if you have hair like mine, frizzy, fine, lack lustre, it could make such a difference to your hair that you will not believe. and it comes at an affordable price.
This is really good for boys hair. I work at a kid’s hair salon and we use this a lot for boys. It’s good to spike it up with a nice hold, or if you use a little bit and warm it in your hands, it’s good to hold down hair for the combover/gentleman’s haircut look.
It’s a good waxy type pomade that’ll give you a wet look, with good hold!.
My all time favorite gel. It might be for boys, but if I’ve got some fly ways I’ll take a little bit of this and apply it to them and bomb I’m set! This gel smells so good!! I always reach for this gel if I’m spiking a kids hair up and parents love how lightweight it is!.
Mixed Chicks Slick Styling Tamer provides edge taming and sleek styling for sophisticated buns, ponytails, fabulous up-dos and faux hawks. Ingredients such as castor and coconut oil help keep edges smooth looking.
This water-based formula gives a firm, manageable hold with very little stickiness or greasy feel. Works great on many natural textures, relaxed, fine or thick hair. Vegan & Cruelty-free.
Why didn’t I know about this product sooner? It met my expectations and went above it. My edges did not move at all during the day. I would change the jar covering, it broke very easily. The scent is pleasant not over powering at all.
I would buy again, the price is definitely worth it. Love, love, love.
So far this is one of my favorite age controls because it don’t really turn white like some of them do and it don’t make your hair feel really stiff and greasy like Mary’s beeswax. It has a really smooth silky texture to it and it makes your hair shiny it could hold down more or have more fresh lemonade and qualities but other than that it’s a really good edge control.

Keep it together and get some flexible style for your hair with this firm hold Fudge Matte Hed. Pump up the volume and get individual style with texture and a super matte finish that will last you through the day and night.
nnFudge Matte Hed will give your hair definition and movement with extreme matte texture. It smoothes the cuticle whilst delivering control. This firm hold texturising paste is also great for grungy, effortless hairstyles.
I think product could be better or on par with the cult American Crew Fiber. This stuff is good for short hair and longish hair 24 inches because it holds better and is easier to style. You can get any style with Fudge Hair Shaper and it seems relatively easy and quick to get the style you want whether it be choppy, up at the front or spiked up all over.
My hair is starting to get that extra bit longer 3 inches and its getting harder to control. But this stuff really is magic. Its quite expensive for a hair styling product but it will last a long time.
Id recommend most highly. Stick with American Crew Fiber for short choppy hair of 12 inches. I made the mistake of straying to LSBs Raw Earth and I deeply regret it. Stick with Fudge Hair Shaper.
Its quite powerful and is able to tame my thick hair. Moreover, it seems to last for quite some time which is a plus. It does have a strong smell, but I found that to be more pleasant than annoying. However, those who mind having greasy hands every time they touch their hair, should avoid using this product It will make hands sticky when you touch your hair, even if a small amount is used.
This is a factor that might prevent me from buying the product again in the future.
Great smelling product which doesnt deliver when it comes to hold. I have used this product both with very short, and longer hair. It works relatively well for the former, but not for the latter. It gives a decent texture, but can also make your hair look a bit clumpy.
Moreover, the hold is nowhere near high, but on the lower end. As far as being a matte product, Id say its more of a medium shine cream. Its not an awful product, but definitely not one of the better ones I own.
Instead go for HairBounds Shaper Toffee. Its similar but with a much higher hold.
To conclude, the best hair product for slicked back hair is one that will provide a strong hold without being too stiff or sticky. A good option is a pomade or gel that can be applied to damp or dry hair.
For a wet look, use a product with a high shine finish. And be sure to comb or brush through evenly for a sleek and polished result.
