20 Best Grunt Calls For Deer Hunting (2023 Updated)

I just bought this call today and I am very happy with it. But I have to test it in colder temperatures yet. But for those of you who say oh certain deer calls freeze, they won’t freeze if stop putting so musch spit in it, and don’t call every 5 seconds trust me I know from experience.

and for those other people that are like oh my deer call broke it didn’t break it just came apart. Most deer calls are made to come apart.

Seems to work pretty good. The main reason I got this call is b/c I wanted to try using a snort wheeze call. Initially, you might think that the snort wheeze part doesn’t work very good because if you just blow into it like you would blow into a grunt call or a duck call, it just sounds like you’re just blowing into a plastic tube.

not much sound at all. But, the trick is to kind of cup your bottom lip up against the call. kind of like you would if you were blowing across the top of a glass bottle to make a whistling sound. Once you do that, you get a louder, pretty realistic sounding snort wheeze like you see on tv.

Can’t wait to try that out on a big buck!.

Have used this call on several young bucks, practicing what works and what doesn’t. They respond very good and had some fun seeing them get real aggressive. Have even watched them leave and come back to this call.

I bought this about 3 weeks ago. When it arrived reed valve was not installed. I’ve since installed but will not stay in place. Inconsistent tones and it isn’t me. The sound is great when it decides to work but you can’t be fiddling with it while you’re hunting.

For me not worth the money. Going to return.

Bought this call about 2weeks ago. Used it once and it just didn’t sound right to me. Got in the woods this morning and the Reed is completely gone. No Idea where it fell out at. Pretty sure it’s not supposed to fall out.

Really angry as now I’m in the woods without a grunt during the rut.

Took my brand new True talker Og deer call out on Saturday morning. Did a bleat call followed by a grunt. Had a young spike running up to check out what was going on. Had a Awesome 8 point that charged up ready to fight.

The only thing I wish it came with the rattle bag. My Cabela’s store only carries the call only.

I found this Duel Call in an appartment I was working on and thought it was a duck call at first. After I cleaned it I gave it a try. It sounded like I was calling in a 235 lb duck so I decided to step outside and when I opened the door to go out my way was impeded by a huge buck with a rack that would make a lesser deer blush.

I asked him to hold on a second, slid passed him and ran to my truck to grab my 7milMag. Then I remembered I was in Illinois and burst into tears because I didnt own a shotgun and you cant shoot a deer here with a rifle.

I am very pleased with this grunt call. It’s easy to use and it sounds very authentic.

I have used this grunt call during the rut in Wisconsin. I pulled 3 different bucks within shooting distance for my daughter this last fall. I have used every brand of grunt call out there and this is one I won’t give up.

I also purchased a total of three more for gifts to family members.

I went out to my stand and had some Doe’s appear and I grunted about 6 times and Within 2 minutes a 7pointer came out of field and headed straight towards the Doe’s. That was the end of him ! Glad I bought it , highly recommend.

My husband is please with it. It was a great Christmas stocking stuffer

i bought this a few days before open season for gun as my first deer call and I’ve already called a good size doe and a 6 point buck definitely easy to use and to change its call type. only issue is you have to remove the reed to change the call.

I bought this because I have been using These calls since they first came out. Bought one a couple months ago and was changing the sound and stem broke off right at first joint. Called Customer Service and 2 days later I received another Free of charge.

They didn’t even charge shipping. LOVE THIS COMPANY!!!.

I bought this product for 2020 hunting season and it is working great so far! This sound is very deep and there are a good amount of settings for different scenarios. The only problem is that if the inside gets too moist it sounds a little bit off, but this only happened when i was practicing a lot and you should not be calling a ton in field anyway! Great product, really do love this one.

Called in a few bucks with the Trophy Buck setting and placated a bunch of doe when they started to get spooked with the fawn and doe settings. Works instantly. Worked like a charming deer call.

I received my grunt call today. The quality of the product is mediocre at best, the tube seems to be very fragile, like it won’t last if you adjust it frequently. The tones sound great, I just hope the product will last.

Shipping took 10 ten days to get, that was a little frustrating.

My go to call for years was the primos rubberneck. The biggest downfall of that call was that it split in half easily (to access the internals to modify the frequency [young buck, Astros bleat. ]). To my delight, the internals on the buck roar are identical.

How it separates is more robust. You can produce more volume through the extended tube and it’s very easy to dial it way down and almost completely mute it as well. And there’s the addition of a snort wheeze.

Excellent call. Does and bucks alike respond to this. Best you can get.

This call is light but pretty sturdy & easy to use. I like that you can adjust from higher pitch & frequency small/young sounds to deeper large buck sounds. The down side is that you have to pop it apart to expose the reed to adjust – it’s not difficult, but you can’t do it on the fly.

I also love being able to ‘snort-wheeze’ on the same call. I am really happy with the Rut Roar; the great sounds & ease of use make it ideal for me.

This product appears to be of good quality as far as manufacturing and probable durability in field usage. Factory packaging is very good. The call I received was not as loud as the two other original cans that I own.

The only reason I bought this call was to reach out farther so I am disappointed. The duration of the bleat may be longer but is not significantly longer than my original cans. I intended to use this call on bobcats and coyotes as much as deer.

I called up 2 bobcats in the last 3 years of hunting deer in the mountains of West Virginia by bleating 2 or 3 times at 15 minute intervals. I may return this call to Primos because it is not typical of the many other products from Primos that I use.

This can call is small, but that’s doesn’t diminish its effectiveness. The sound is great and plenty loud enough, in fact better to emulate a doe or fawn, since the sound is somewhat gentle. olume is less.

Too loud is a deterrent, I think. Smaller is better, for not taking up much room in your pack or pocket.

I couldn’t believe it when this can actually shipped to my house. At first, I believed it was a gimmick because of how low the price was! I bought the Great Big Can for the same price of the Original Can.

This is such a great value. It has a longer bleat than the original can, making it useful in the later parts of the rut. I would definitely recommend this product to an avid hunter!.

The extinguisher is the best deer call I have ever used. 2019 rut I shot my first wall hanger buck. I was walking a fence line between two fields and I saw antlers in the tall grass. I used the extinguisher and grunted at him and he walked right to me within 25 feet.

I took a knee holding my rifle up and grunting knowing that buck sound was not to be on his turf. I called in other bucks later in the year which give a 15 year old his first buck ever! I hunt a lot on a military base and hearing others using different brands, we tend to meet up after sitting in the stands.

Guys have asked me what deer call I use and how realistic it sounds compared to theirs. Great product the best I say. I do think having the videos on how to use the extinguisher are the best help on how to use it right.

Easy to use and very effective with its calling range. I Called in a couple of bucks! One came in so fast that I wasn’t even ready for him. Definitely durable too! The only suggestion I would make is to perhaps rubberize or ruggedize the outside of the body so it doesn’t make much noise when rubbing/tapping against your other gear.

Simple bits of tape work well, too. All in all, im very happy with the extinguisher and would highly recommend it to others.

I Really Like the usability of the slide to change the vocal tones of the call. Seems to be well built and put together. Only complaint is when I blow into the call it seems to want to continue to vibrate and doesn’t sound like a deer vocalization at the end.

Not sure if there is a fix for it or not. I haven’t had time to mess around with it to try to make it stop having that reverberation at the end of the sound. Hopefully, I can figure it out as for the money I spent wouldn’t think that I would have issues like that.

Otherwise, I am satisfied with the call overall.

I have never used calls for whitetail, so I don’t have one to Compare this to. BUT…the guys I know who do use calls recommended this one as THE one to get. After checking it out I decided to get one.

With our property I’ve never had a problem getting my tags filled with an edible animal. But never have I been able to encourage a buck (or doe)I’m targeting to come within range. It either happened, or it didn’t.

So to the point. This call arrived quickly, later in the evening as our deliveries usually are from ups. I took maybe an hour and a half that night to watch the videos and practice using it. The next morning I walked out the house and expected to be back by noon, hopefully with a deer.

Well within an hour I saw a nice little buck walking a ridge across from me, something like a 3 by 3. My first thought was as usual to quickly get ahead to set myself up for him if I could, then I remembered my brand new call so quickly I pulled it out from around my neck and gave it a doe blat.

My damned glasses were fogging up so bad I had to stop and wipe them in order to try getting an eye on him through my scope. By the time I got my glasses back on I didn’t see him, so I gave one more doe blat.

I had not cleared my glasses well enough so again they came off, quickly wiped and back on. The moment I looked up the buck came to the top of the ridge I was on maybe 30’ in front of me. He could tell something was not right with what he was looking at and started turning and slowly walking away.

Each time he looked away I raised my rifle, then he’d stop look and I’d stop. He’d continue and I’d raise it as far as I could again. By the time I had it nearly level a much larger buck popped up right where the first one had crested which happened to now be pretty much exactly where I had my rifle pointing.

I quickly dropped my eye to the scope placing my reticle on his neck below his chin and fired. Nice 5 by 5 (or 10 point however you want to count it) dropped in his tracks. Not the largest I’ve harvested from our woods but definitely in the top 3-4.

So, long story to exclaim these bucks were headed in an entirely different direction and I’m absolutely convinced that if I had not had this call they would have continued their course heading further away and it is quite likely (given the distance and the issue I was having with glass) that I would not have had a shot on them.

Instead they came right to me!! What’s phenomenal experience! It is a fact that the extinguisher will be a permanent piece of my hunting equipment from now on! Thank you guys for creating such an amazing device!.

Watched a few YouTube videos on the extinguisher and decided to give it a try. I specifically watched one video of a buck called in with a doe bleat and then a buck grunt to re-enforce the buck to come take a look.

I hunt in an area where the deer are notoriously call shy. I had zero problems calling does in with the fawn bleat. I sat during the rut, watched a doe come through and a 7 pointer follow her trail 10 minutes later, I gave a doe bleat, he looked up but then continued following her trail, I have a buck grunt and he looked again but headed south following the doe’s trail.

I gave one more doe bleat, he stopped in his tracks, turned around and came 20 yards broadside and I tagged him right behind the shoulder only for him to drop 50 yards away. This thing is legit!!!.

To whom is on the fence of buying this product. Get off and buy it! I have purchased the Extinguisher deer call and have personally used it out in the woods over the last weekends. I watched the tutorial videos on how to make the different calls & sounds from the Deer Society app (huge help!!) and practiced.

Took it to the woods and WOW!! I would do a “blind call” and after that it would be 15-20 minutes and bucks would come in (button, spike & 8 pointer). This call works great with the Black Rack system.

Grunt, rattle and grunt again. amazingly useful!! I’m looking to purchase Phase Out face foam.

I love this item. It’s crafted very well and the customer service at Primos is EXCELLENT

I like this bleat. It has a realistic sound and I added it to my arsenal. But here’s the thing we hunters all need to understand. You can rattle like Levi Morgan, grunt like Michael Waddell and bleat like Wilbur Primos.

But if there aren’t deer in the area to hear it, they’re not coming in. After years of great success in these same areas I’ve hunted, this year, nothing seemed to work and I’m just chalking it up to a bad year.

The can is mis-leading. I raised deer for 12 yrs. This is not a Doe in Estrus Bleat. It is a Fawn Bleat. I know from Experience raising Whitetails. None the less, I have been using my old Can from about 9-10 yrs ago & it actually works well on calming Doe’s & yrling down during Deer Season.

I have successfully used it at Kisatchie National Forest in Central Louisiana where I hunt deer extensively. This year, I kept a doe & a yrling within 30 yds of me after being busted by the yrling using the Old Can.

Every time they snorted & stomped the ground, I would use the can. It would calm them down & they would go back to feeding on acorns. They bedded down by me, 25 yds away, til I swatted a mosquito. Then they got up & bounced off about 50 yds.

I used the can again to calm them & they came back. But eventually left to bed just outside of my eyesight. Later that morning, I harvested a 6 pt buck. I feel that the longer I keep deer by me, that there is a lot of Natural deer smell, rather than all that Liquid stuff that is on the shelf at the store, which 100 % of the time that I used artificial deer lure, scared them off as soon as they smelled it.

Real Deer will leave scent that is calming to other deer. An, that’s why I use The Can. To Calm Deer down & hold them as long as I can. Not to Cold-Call them in. I have used a Buck grunt call many of times to No Luck at all.

The reason that I bought this one was b/c I lost my Old Can in the woods. Hope this helps!!! Deer Man Out.

This is the perfect starter combo! The All-Star 2. 0 is super quick to learn & the Temptress is even easier! use the Bully Bull Extreme to amplify the sound! It will take some practice to master, but its a quick learn! Happy Hunting!.

Got this tube as a Christmas present last year and finally got to use it this fall. Closed the deal opening day and called in another for a friend the next day. This tube has great volume and sound. It really gets out there without being over the top.

I used a smaller tube before this one and will never go back. The sound difference is not only very noticeable to me, but the elk as well.

I am new to elk calling and hunting and picked up this kit to practice using a diaphragm call. I like the options and different latex tensions each call has. Once I got the hang of these calls I found them very easy to use, the tones seem to sound nice for cow calls and for bugles.

Would highly recommend this kit for those starting out or seasoned callers.

I received it on time and was super excited to get it. It is super easy to use and doesn’t take too much work to make it do what you want. It is by far the best sounding call I’ve ever used so far but I haven’t used it in the field yet.

Easiest duck call I’ve used yet. My buddy even says it sounds really good for an amateur like me calling. The quality is great also. Very durable feeling. Waited to catch this call when it was on sale but now that I have it I believe the price point is right on target.

This call is amazing. My son ordered one and I had to try it. This call is easy to blow and has an amazing tone. It was quite difficult to overblow and distort the sound. The quality of the material is second to none.

Loud and soft, feed call to high ball, this call does it all.

This is a great call. A couple of grunts and a few minutes later I had a buck walk out right in front of me. Easy to use and durable

I grunted in a doe with it, with absolutely no idea on how to use it save for what was written on the package. Would be nice if it had a lanyard on it so it’d be easier to carry

I have shot a lot of this ammunition along with family members and in competition. This is a great range/competition (USPSA minor) ammunition that shoots and does not jam. I have had upside down primers on another brand of competing ammo, but never with the Winchester White box.

Just can’t say enough good about this ammo.

Although we have used Winchester white box for decades as our paper-punching rounds, suddenly we’re having trouble with fail to feed, on both a brand new Springfield 10mm (180 gr FMJ) and a venerable Glock 22, which has never malfunctioned, but now won’t accept the 165 gr FMJ.

Both rounds are flat nosed, and both get partway into the chamber and wedge themselves, halfway up the ramp. I can’t say for certain it’s the ammo, but one brand new and one well-worn in handgun suddenly won’t feed a single magazine without multiple FTF.

We’re looking for alternate manufacturers.

This ammo works great in my Beretta Cougar. I don’t understand most of the 5 Star reviews as they all refer to this as 9MM NATO which it is NOT! 9MM NATO is physically a 9mm, (NOT a. 380) with an overpressure load (by SAMMI standards) and should only be used in modern, robust weapons.

This. 380 ammo is standard loading, reliable, feeds well in my Beretta, and consistently shoots good groups. If you are having issues with your. 380 feeding these rounds I recommend you clean the feed ramp and possibly use a Dremel and some rouge to polish the ramp.

The 2020 season is where I really started to get serious about my hunting; I wasn’t going to just go out on random days that I had off and meander into a stand. I had multiple cameras running from June, 2020; each time I checked the cameras I Phazed out my gear, clothes, body, and cameras.

All the scouting paid off when I started to see a really nice mature 9-point Wisconsin buck on camera. I tracked his movements on map from June until October; he was definitely the most dominant buck on the property but was pretty nocturnal.

He vanished from cameras in mid-October which was disheartening. I knew none of my neighbors shot him. I got one picture of him on 11/7/2020 in the early morning walking back into a thick marsh. I went in that afternoon and setup 150 yards from where I thought he was bedding along a creek system on our property.

Just as the sun was setting I picked up my Extinguisher and did a few immature buck grunts (trailing grunts) then one doe in estrus bleat. Then I tickled the Black Rack together for about 15 seconds.

I stopped then slid the mono-slide to mature buck and did a few grunts and three doe estrus bleats; I cracked the Black Racks together hard and twisted and grinded for a quick 5 seconds. I stopped and put my tools down and barely had my hands off the rack before Hank the Tank came crashing out of the thicket I saw him enter that morning.

He stood about 40 yards away off to my left; he let out a guttural bellow before circling 30 yards out in front of me. I grabbed my bow and stopped him at 30 yards and double-lunged/heart shot him. He ran 75 yards and crashed.

My first archery buck was on the ground and I owe it all to the Phaze scent elimination products and Extinguisher/Black Rack game call systems. Thank you to the Dukarts and the rest of the Deer Society team for giving me the tools and knowledge to lay my hands on a 5 1/2 year old 130″ Wisconsin buck!.

These products have alot to say for themselves! I have introduced these products to my catalog of adventure/ hunting, as of last night hunting the front that pushed through Missouri. Conditions were windy, air was damp, used the Black Rack and Extinguisher 4 mature does moved down wind of me at 8 yards to investigate.

They never caught my scent while prior to using the Phase01 products bodywash, hair wash and conditioner, and laundry soap. I use the field foam on warm days when i have been sweating, though not on this occasion.

This has to be the best in the idustry, hands down. There has been alot of products come and go through my hunting career and I think this is were it will stay for me. Thank You Deer Society!.

I recieved my Extinguisher call and after watching several videos I set up in my side yard to practice a few calls for about a half hour. shone the light in the field about 10:00 p. m. and saw nothing.

I figured i needed to watch more videos and practice some more. I Started my truck, turned around back towards the house and standing about 80 yds away was the biggest 10 point buck I’ve ever seen in my area (upstate NY).

Made me excited and sad. Sad that i didnt purchase the extinguisher call sooner Being that it is already past the main rut. Excited that with the black rack an extinguisher call my 2021 hunt season is going to be a lot of fun.

Been looking for something different to try on coyotes, Ive read previous reviews on how good/bad this call is, or how its not loud enough. Apparently them bad reviews dont quite understand the sounds of a field mouse makes, or think outside the box.

It sounds just like a field mouse, AND if you cup your hand over the call, it makes it louder and travels furtherTHANK YOU so much for a QUICK shipment, it arrived a day early and just in time for a coyote hunt in Indiana with some old school friends! I will come back and post an update post on how it works for us.

It sounds great. But is So Slippery. Also Impossible to put in Pocket without it making noise. Those are my drawbacks. If those things dont bother you. Yes Sound is good. I bought 1 a the Little Black kind.

Easy to carry noise free and is good. Not as loud tho. The Mouse shaped kind is good but it gets real stiff when cold.

Primos always seems to make high quality products that work. this product is no exception. This product Works Great and it is a Great Design, and is well made. What you don’t see in the photo is one of the best things about this call.

the back side of this call is flat so you can set it on a flat surface like on your thigh and use it hands free with out it rolling off on to the ground where it is hard to reach.
