Ground cover is a type of plant that is used to cover the ground in order to prevent weeds from growing and to add aesthetic value to the landscape. There are many different types of ground cover plants, but some of the most popular ones to use under Japanese maples are dwarf mondo grass, sedum, and ground ivy.

Fab deal on the definitive book on Acers. Delighted to find this at substantially less than shelf price. A glorious book for anyone who shares my passion for Japanese maples. So many very clear images, so much information.
Sources, and even a Japanese glossary so you can understand the names. I love it!.
This is the most informative source on Japanese Maples that there is. The author has spent over 40 years and been on 3 continents that I know about researching this subject. this is my go-to on anything JM related.
J. D. Vertrees is the Acer guru and I am very grateful to him for sharing his infinite wisdom.
This is a fantastic ‘bible’ of Japanese maples. I bought this because there are so many new varieties coming to market that my 1st Edition was out of date. I’m sure you will find *cheaper* books, but this is so comprehensive, I don’t think you will find *better*.
It is a reference book, so although there are plenty of ‘pretty pictures’, it’s a wordy tome.
Nearly Natural While far shorter than its western cousins, the Japanese Maple has the distinction of being a truly revered tree, and is often the centerpiece of any garden it finds itself in. And you can bring that elegance to any room you wish with this amazing silk recreation.
Several trunks shoot skyward, culminating in a burst of green (924 leaves in all). Looks so real you’ll be serving Sake and tea.
I am really liking how this tree turned out! I originally was not happy with the tree I received, because it was not the correct height. I ordered the 6’5 Golden Cane Artificial Palm Tree and received one that was only 53 inches.
HOWEVER, after completing an exchange I did receive the correct item. The second tree I received had the extra branch with leaves that you add in, (that my original order was missing). This additional piece was easy to stick in and gave the tree the added height and it also gave it some more volume! I love that the branches and leaves are easy to bend, move, and style, so you can play with them so they will fit in your space and to your liking! This is a great product that I will recommend and will likely purchase again! <3.
I was looking to replace my king palm that was dying on me. It was this exact height and look. Most plants online are really pricey and lots of them don’t look real. Once I took this out of the box I was amazed on how real it look and felt.
The only thing is that it doesn’t come with any sort of directions. I know you may wonder why would anyone need directions?! Well I didn’t realize you should be bending the leaves and not the entire stem, so I could have very well snapped it off if I didn’t test it and see that wasn’t the way to go.
But also maybe some basic care instructions on keeping the leaves clean would be good as well. I wouldn’t want to wipe it down with a cleaner that will ruin it. Other than that I don’t have a complaint about the item itself.
It’s as described and it goes perfect with my space.
First the Areca Palm looked FAKE no representation of a silk plant more like hard plastic. Upon receiving it I immediately requested a return label. I have requested more than a dozen times and it all goes non responsive.
I have sent so many emails for the return label that I feel like I am begging for it. My concern is also if and when I do receive a return label, what is the likelihood of me receiving my refund. No professionalism represented thus far so I am definitely skeptical.
I bought two plants, kept one thou had I seen it before my employee did, who determined that it was ok to keep, I would have return that one as well. I just visited my office this weekend and saw it looked just as fake.
I was buying the silk plants for the office because all the females who would care for the real plants, are now working at home; and the men in my office would not remember to care for live plants. It’s been extremely frustrating dealing with this company when all I get is sales emails and zero response to my request for a return label.
These plants are not cheap. I will absolutely not be working with this company ever again. I am about to outfit about 300 offices and was looking for a vendor to supply the silk plants, based on current non-service after the sale from this company, I won’t be using them.
Right now just hoping I can get a return label and my refund.

Finally a fertilizer that’s blended for the unique needs of Japanese Maples! Japanese Maple Fertilizer uses a lower-nitrogen formula that supports a natural tendency to grow in cool weather environments.
This means less leaf scorch in summer – even in sun – and a smooth transition to dazzling fall color. A lower pH helps the roots take up the nutients they need and phosphorous and potassium deliver color illumination like you’ve never seen before.
You’ll get all the brilliant reds purples and oranges that make Japanese Maples the crowning glory of the garden. Japanese Maple fertilizer contains premium organic ingredients like bat guano cottonseed meal feather meal and humic acid a naturally occuring organic material that is formed when organic matter decomposes.
Humic acid helps with seed germination and may increase the uptake of important micronutrients. Packed in a resealable plastic bag. GARDEN TIP: Use 1/2 cup for every two feet of plant height and feed monthly throughout the growing season.
Because Japanese maples have shallow root systems mulch regularly and keep soil damp.
I have used Happy Frog Japanese Maple Fertilizer for years with complete satisfaction. Best fertilizer for Japanese maples bar none. Many of may friends also use and recommend it. If you like Japanese Maples Happy Frog is the product for you!.
Beautiful Color adds Elegance and Beauty to your landscape Zone 5-8, this tree is considered “bushy style”. Plants from Daylily Nursery are guaranteed to arrive healthy and green. Plants require proper care and nourishment to adapt to their new surroundings.
Zone recommendations are provided in our listings. Successful gardening requires careful planning, often full seasons in advance. Do your research and plan ahead for the best planting time in your area.
Plants with delicate new roots need the best possible head start in getting established before winter, even hardy evergreen varieties. The optimal time for planting for most of our material is in mid to late spring, past the danger of hard frost.
This allows your plants the longest possible growing season. Summer and very early fall are also suitable, as long as your plant is placed in optimal conditions and receives adequate water during the hotter, dryer periods of the summer.
This can easily cause damage, stunting, or failure to thrive. If issues with your plants arise within the first 30 days of receipt, please email or call our office. Our knowledgeable staff will review your concerns and provide guidance and troubleshooting, or a one-time replacement if necessary.
However, plants are living things, vulnerable to unpredictable conditions and circumstances every day, just like people. Happy Planting!.
My 2 Japanese maples arrived on time and they were wrapped up perfectly well! They weren’t damaged in transit and they look absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much and I will definitely be buying from this seller again😊.
I don’t know what happened during shipping but it was almost bent 80 degrees. I’m trying my hardest to keep this alive. I’m not a happy camper but I took it to a bigger pot with just the right mix hoping I can revive it.

The tree itself is fine, well pruned to grow into a lovely shaped tree some day. It will just take a while longer than I had hoped. I would love to have known the pot size for what I was buying, but I didn’t ask.
It was only a 1 gallon. Most in stores are 3+. I actually found one for $69 at lowes a few weeks later that was much larger.
I paid the extra $100 for the bigger plant. I didn’t get the actual tree. I was expecting it to be fuller. It was just a little bit taller than the next size down. I could have bought something in town for less that looked better.
Growing Zones: 5-8 Cold hardy down to -10 degrees Grafted and grown for easy sizing and benefits Get the guarantee of amazing color with our Bloodgood Japanese Maple. This unique variety delivers vibrant red color in a manageable, perfectly-sized silhouette.
In fact, this tree is known for its ability to retain its vivid hue throughout multiple seasons with a deep burgundy color throughout spring and well into summer, transitioning to bright red in the winter.
And its bark is silver for an ideal contrast. But the best part is the Bloodgood’s versatility. From focal point accents to property borders, this Japanese Maple makes a statement. It can even be planted in containers, and it’s adaptable to various soil type, full to partial sun and more.
And our Bloodgoods are naturally disease and pest resistant, so harsh chemicals and sprays are unnecessary. As one of the first online nurseries in the world, Brighter Blooms offers a large, proven collection of high-quality plants.
I ordered the 4-5 ft Bloodgood Japanese Maple, the “largest” available. It arrived in excellent condition but I was disappointed at the actual size of it. While it was about 4-4 1/2 ft tall, it has only one main trunk the width of a pencil, with very limited “branching”.
It’s just 2 weeks later and they are already selling it $40. cheaper. To add insult to injury, I was stunned to learn that my local nursery had a few that were healthy & huge at the same price point that I paid online.
I will admit that when it arrived I was ecstatic with how healthy it was. We planted it same day with the recommended planting & rooting mediums and it is doing great so far – but for the price I paid I was expecting something fuller.
I will have to wait many, many years before this purchase will turn from a tall twig into a reasonably sized tree. Fingers crossed I live to see it!.
We actually thought we were going to loose this young tree. The leaves started turning brown at the tips and has brown spots all over the leaves after planting. Then one of the leaves fell off. But just the one that we can see.
It looks pretty bad. One thing I guess you could say that is good is last week a new stem came up from the bottom. But the storms we’ve had tore a couple of the leaves. For the money we paid I can’t say we are happy with this tree.
We have a beautiful Japanese Maple we planted in the back yard years ago and it’s beautiful.
This four-foot Japanese maple decorative plant features beautiful light green leaves on two natural hardwood trunks. Handcrafted in Wisconsin, each of these is finished by one designer to give it that natural feel.
Brilliant Red Maple Leaves All Season Long You won’t have to wait until autumn to enjoy red leaves on this tree. Emperor Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum ‘Wolff’ EMPEROR 1 ) makes your landscape sizzle all season long.
Beginning in spring, the emerging leaves are colored with regal shades of purplish-red, and they retain this color throughout summer. In autumn, Emperor Japanese Maple’s foliage finishes the growing season with a spectacular color change to scarlet-red! A Graceful Display with even Better Features You’ll want Emperor Japanese Maple for its spectacular foliage, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the other features this red-blushing beauty brings to the table: Grows into a compact size.
If you have a small landscape, you may not have room to grow a large tree. It will either overwhelm your other plantings, or it will throw your landscape design way out of proportion. Emperor Japanese Maple takes a shapely upright form, but it typically grows no taller than 15 feet, with heights of 10 to 12 feet more commonly seen.
Endures late-spring frosts. When deciduous trees produce leaf buds early in spring, the buds can be killed by late-spring frosts. Then you have to wait longer for the tree to produce its leaves, which can make your yard look sparse in the meantime.
Emperor Japanese Maple buds later in spring than other trees, so it is spared the damage caused by late-season cold snaps. Tolerates shade. Although you don’t want to plant Emperor Japanese Maple in full shade, you’ll find that its leaves retain their red hues even in partial shade or in areas where the tree receives dappled sunshine.
East Meets West Japanese maple trees are also native to areas in Southeast Asia other than Japan. These oriental beauties have found hospitable homes in many western climates and soils, too. Emperor Japanese Maple is a perennial in USDA plant hardiness Zones 5 through 8, which means it’s a durable tree in cold northern climates as well as hot southern regions.
As a quintessential tree for any Asian-themed garden, Emperor Japanese Maple provides a focal point that ties your landscape design with a stunning red bow. You can also grow this versatile plant in a large pot as a patio tree! A Super Container Plant If you’ve never thought about growing a tree in a large pot, Emperor Japanese Maple is an excellent choice! Growing in a container solves the problem of having to dig a hole in what may be less-than-desirable soil.
And if you grow your tree in a pretty pot, you can enjoy it on your patio as a single potted specimen or as a focal point that’s grouped with other container plants. Although its mature in-ground height typically is 10 feet, Emperor Japanese Maple’s size will be smaller in a large pot, so you’ll find it’s more easily manageable.
Will it live in a pot year-round? Without the surrounding landscape soil to help insulate its roots, Emperor Japanese Maple could suffer cold injury. A rule of thumb is that you can successfully grow it in a pot if it’s hardy in two zones colder than where you live.
For example, because it’s hardy to Zone 5, gardeners in Zone 7 and warmer can grow it in a container that stays outside year-round. And if you live in Zone 6, you can place your potted tree in a spot that is protected from winter winds and wrap the pot with frost blankets or heavy insulating material to protect its roots.
If you live in a zone colder than 6, you can move the pot to an unheated garage during winter to protect your plant. What kind of container should I use? Terracotta clay and porcelain pots are susceptible to breaking as they repeatedly freeze and thaw outside.
Better choices include plastic, metal, or wooden containers. Whatever pot you choose, just make sure it has a hole at the bottom so water can drain freely. Does it need special care in its container? You’ll only need to keep it watered and fertilized ‘– you won’t have to weed around it as you’d have to do if it were planted in the ground! And you won’t even have to prune it ‘– Emperor Japanese Maple naturally grows into what horticulturists call a “vase shape.
” Soil in containers dries out more quickly than in-ground soil (even in the winter), so you’ll want to check on your potted tree periodically and add water when the top few inches of the soil feels dry.
Emperor Japanese Maple likes soil that is a bit on the moist side to perform its best. 3 Irresistible Landscape Design Suggestions You’ll want to find a prominent place to feature your Emperor Japanese Maple instead of planting it where it’s out of sight.
This is definitely a showy tree that is worthy of its regal name. With the simple addition of an Emperor Japanese Maple to your landscape, you can transform your yard into a curb-appeal sensation! 1.
Design an island bed by removing the grass inside the bed and mulching the entire island with finely shredded pine bark ‘– to a depth of 3 inches. Using Emperor Japanese Maple as the anchor plant, you can place it in the center of the.
I purchased a Emperor Japanese Maple Tree and was shocked what delivered. I noticed that there was quite few dried and dead leaves. I called and and spoke with the customer service agent and told them I have bought prior trees from them and they were breath taking and so beautiful what happen with this shipment.
The customer service mentioned they would replace with a better looking and much healthy tree. When I received the second tree I was shocked , this tree was also dry and dead leaves. Is it shipping process for this style tree? Coral Bark tree that I bought was beautiful and is doing very nicely.
The trees that my sister bought were also very nice and healthy. She purchased plum, pear and apple. They are all doing very good. Please let me know if it was a shipping issue with the Emperor Japanese Maple or the trees that were sent.
It’s way to early to provide a review since the tree is dormant and was dormant on arrival, as expected (Mid November). Thus, this review is based upon previous experiences with the company, and what I can tell so far.
The tree arrived as promptly as can be expected with today’s shipping issues. It was well packaged and came with detailed instructions. The roots, as far as I can tell, seem healthy. I planted it the day after delivery, and I’m hoping for great results once Spring arrives.
I have ordered from BrighterBlooms on numerous occasions and I can attest to their professionalism and to the quality of their plants. If allowed, I’ll update in April or May to show the progress. However, I’m not too worried.
I bought this young maple as the replacement for 30yrs old Japanese Shidare maple in our back garden which died right after my wife died because of cancer at the end of January this year. She loved the Shidare every day.
I had bought a Shidare just before I ordered this one. That Shidare from Amazon is 3ft high and looks too fragile. Therefore I am trying your Imperial maple( As the New Japanese Emperor just crowned Oct.
22). Now it took about one week I received the package , therefore I really worried about the health of the plant. Fortunately it came out fine and I put a lot of water right away. However it was the middle of heatwave(Indian Summer in Calif.
) The maple lost many leaves in a few days. I re-potted it to much bigger pot and watered the plant again. Now it regained spirit with the tiny sprouts after fallen leaves. I am carefully watching what would happen to him next.
Thank you for asking how your beloved Maple is going. Shunji Shinoda I was born in 1930, Tokyo, Japan. In our backyard there was a Japanese garden with a beautiful scarlet maple, I remember. I hope I can see this new maple to grow like the one in my memory.
Have an empty corner? Fill bare spaces with this Japanese Maple Artificial Tree. Inspired by nature and crafted from high-quality materials, transform your rooms into a jungle with green foliage. The dense, thick leaves stem from thin brown trunks.
Standing 6ft. from a cotton planter (included in height), curate in any space in need of green. Perfect for a lonely corner, living room or bedroom. Artificial trees are manufactured using synthetic materials, such as polyester material or plastic, and are well designed and constructed to be life-like in appearance.
This item will need to be re-shaped when removed from the secure box to allow it to reach its fullest size. Your artificial tree will look beautiful for years to come; simply wipe clean with a soft dry cloth when needed.
While the rest of the plant is very full the lillies look aweful. The silk on many of them were already fraying right out of the box drastically. Most of them had no shape and were flat. There was no way to fix that.
Made it look like a dollar store flower. I expected better for a 80 pricetag. Not impressed at all. I have gotten better quality at smaller chain box stores. And the fact that you have no close ups to see flower quality made me leary but i thought for the price it must be better than i think.
You pulled the wool over my eyes. Will not purchase from company again. Sorry. Pictures look like you have some nice things. Deceiving.
So disappointed! First of all, it isn’t a ficus tree. Ficus trees have rather elongated leaves, in pale shades of green and of different sizes. These dark green leaves are of one size and look very artificial.
And the pot is tiny! It can’t hold up the tree at all. I must buy another pot and fill it with something to keep the tree standing. Also must buy pale green spray paint to see if I can make the leaves more realistic.
The final insult was picking up tiny loose pebbles thrown in the box without a bag to hold them. I would take it back except I have no way to put a 6 ft. box in my car and drive all the way to Walmart.
This is awful! The pot that came attached to the tree is so small it won’t stand up on its own. I had to buy another pot to put it in then because the pot is so small, I had to pack it with moss so it would stand in the new pot I bought on its own.
Also, the leaves have a horrible small. I have bought other faux plants and I have never had a problem with the leaves having a horrible smell or a pot to small to hold up the plant/tree! I would take a picture but it won’t stand up long enough for me to take one.
It’s a beautiful plant BUT I thought when it said EXTRA FULL that it would be exactly as the picture and the description, with lots of leaves. Well it’s NOT extra Full, it’s just full. So I’m a little disappointed in that, but it’s still a beautiful addition to my household.
It arrived in excellent condition and thanks for the great customer service. Great doing business with you. I would order again but with some hesitation in the product picture and description.
One of the first books published by Timber Press, this has remained a bestseller for over 20 years. It presents the history, taxonomy, nomenclature, culture, and propagation of Acer palmatum and Acer japonicum and illustrates hundreds of wonderful varieties of these versatile trees and shrubs.
This book is a great resource for those who enjoy Japaneses Maples. It gives thorough descriptions of several well known varieties and usefull advice on growing and placement in the landscape. Overall, a very informative book.
I have started a Japanese Maple collection and wanted a source for detailed information on the origin, cultural requirements, and correct spelling of the names. This book is the authority on Japanese maples.
After seeing the quality of this book, I will purchase the 4th edition as well. The 3rd edition contains many great photos of Japanese Maples and would make a good coffee table book even if you were not particularly interested in the Maples.
The price for this edition is very reasonable at $10-15.
Used this weed barrier landscape fabric in a vegetable and flower garden and it is the first time ever that I have had success keeping weeds from growing right through. This was easy to work with and rolled out smoothly.
The coverage is fantastic and the lines help to keep things symmetrical. I used heavy duty landscape staples and this fabric is going no where. Will definitely order more when the time comes. Glad I just spent the money and did this.
Very sturdy fabric. Used to line my raised beds, my sister and I made from recycled deck wood. Used roofing nails to secure to top of boxes. Easy to cut, very pleased!! Let the composting begin. I measured wrong, I will be ordering more to finish the project, short about 10 feet.
Decorate your home with the four-foot Japanese Maple Extra Full Bush features real Dragonwood trunks and comes fixed in our dark brown Rattan container. This artificial plant is maintenance-free and suitable for any decor.
WHEN I FIRST UN PACKAGED THIS, I WAS A BIT DISSAPOINTED. IT COULD BE MORE FULL, IT WAS PRETTY LITE WEIGHT. I LIKED THE BASKET AND THE MOSS. THE TRUNK LOOKS PRETTY REAL, THE LEAVES, AH. I THINK FOR THE PRICE IT IS GOOD VALUE.
I WOULD BUY ANOTHER ONE, I HAVE IT IN THE CORNER BEHIND A LAMP TABLE. IT DOES LOOK NICE. I PREFER REAL PLANTS, BUT MY CAT EATS THEM. IT IS A NICE HEIGHT, IM GETTING USED TO IT AND OVERALL PLEASED WITH MY PURCHASE.

Looks beautiful and serves it’s purpose. My Furbaby is very well behaved and does not damage a single thing. I’ve had it for about a year and still looks brand new. Only reason I bought is because we have carpeted bedrooms and my husband does not want her going in there nor little kids that come and visit.

Perfect for Tight Spaces The ‘Viridis’ Weeping Japanese Maple is a compact ornamental tree that looks great in tight spaces. It matures to a height of just 6-8 feet, so it can grow almost anywhere. Looks great around patios, entryways, walkways, and corners of your landscape.
The Weeping Japanese Maple is one of the most desirable trees on the market. It’s a perfect accent for small yards and an excellent specimen plant for larger landscapes. This charming tree will set your landscape apart from the neighbors’ with its unique features.
In addition to its beauty, this tree is well-behaved. It is a petite tree that grows slowly, so it doesn’t outgrow its placement. The Weeping Japanese Maple doesn’t have an invasive root system, so it can even be planted near foundation walls without causing damage.
The size is right for many homes, large or small. The Weeping Japanese Maple will eventually reach a mature height of about 8 feet with a slightly wider spread. The shape of the tree is reflected in the name; its branches gracefully droop for a weeping form.
Indirect sunlight is best for these trees. They need just enough sun to create the amazing color but not so much as to dry the roots or scorch the delicate leaves. This elegant tree will add flair and grace to your landscape plans.

I received my 4ft. weeping Japanese Maple yesterday and it’s more beautiful than I could imagine! It was a replacement tree for the first tree that was damaged/ship shocked during transportation. After I sent photos of the first damaged tree they sent me the replacement tree the next day without me having to ask.
Outstanding customer service with wanting to make it right and the service rep was understanding and very helpful. Cost was less expensive than local nurseries.
The Weeping Japanese Maple ‘Viridis’ arrrved in excellent packaging in early spring. The plant was barely leafed out, as expected. I quickly moved it to a larger container and placed it in our heated green house where it avoided late frosts.
It was growing soon after. It is abolutely beautiful, and promises to occupy a central place in our garden. A five star experience.
I ordered 4 trees at the same time, all the other trees are doing very well. I have having no issues with them. It has been quite hot during the time period since planting them and we have watered them every 2-3 days, if no rain.
There are a few brown leaf’s on the Japanese maple, more at the bottom of the tree. Cannot tell if this is a drying out or over watering issue. The Japanese maple was in a smaller pot and root base, than the bigger other trees, so we thought to water more, like every other day, once we seen the start of some brown leafs.
The health of the tree seems the same, even after a couple of weeks, still not sure what I should do.
Find artificial fall leaves, like this gorgeous dark red burgundy fake Japanese maple leaf branch. This faux fall foliage has a rich, warm autumn hue that’s sure to enhance your floral arrangements and door wreaths this season.

I get more compliments on these beautiful colorful real looking leaves. I did not want to take them down for the holidays. I put them in a blue chinoiserie vase. The colors looked amazing together. I would give more stars if I could!.
I used these in a basket at the front door and in several fall arrangements. They look beautiful. The color is excellent and the quality of the leaves is very good. Not at all disappointed in this purchase.
There are several options for ground cover under Japanese maples. Some common choices include ferns, hostas, and daylilies. All of these plants are low-growing and will not compete with the Japanese maple for sunlight.
They also have shallow root systems, so they will not damage the roots of the tree.
