The most common grooming tools for golden retrievers are a metal comb, a slicker brush, and a set of clippers. Combs are used to remove tangles and mats from the coat, while slicker brushes help to remove loose hair and debris.
Clippers are used to trim the hair around the feet and face, as well as to create a tidy look overall.
20 Best Grooming Tools For Golden Retrievers
1. Hartz Groomer’s Best Brush, Slicker, for Dogs
The most fundamental dog grooming tool for everyday de-shedding
Fine thin bristles for removing loose hair and undercoat
Helps remove tangles and matted hair
Made with stainless steel bristles and natural rubber
As a pet parent it’s common to be floored by fur. Hundreds of wispy strands cling to anything they can grab hold ofand hairy tumbleweeds dance throughout your home taking up residence in every nook and cranny.
These are the indications that hours of endless vacuuming and sweeping have begun. If you feel like your pet is losing their fur faster than you can keep up with it’s time to break the cycle and stop dreading shedding.
Now That Foster and Smith is gone, I had no way to get a replacement for the round-headed, ergonomic-handled soft slicker brushes they used to provide. I therefore ordered three different slickers from Chewy.
This was one. The others were the “ConairPRO Dog Slicker Soft Brush” and the “Master Grooming Tools Double Flexible Dog & Cat Slicker Brush, Extra Firm. ” This Hartz brush was the one I like best. The wires are tipped enough to be fairly gentle on the skin, but not so thoroughly tipped that they don’t grab the hair properly.
The Conair tool is okay, but plainly meant solely for fur that is clean, untangled, and medium length rather than long. It does not grab the fur or pull out dead hair. It is also tiny. It would be super-gentle, though, no question about that.
It’s really too gentle to do a good job on a Cavalier that’s been running around outside. The small-medium size of the Hartz brush is convenient for most areas of the dogs — Cavaliers are small — but it is more effective than the Conair brush at getting tangles and burrs out of a coat that is in decent shape, but where the dog has been running around outside.
For basic coat care, this brush is going to be the one I reach for the most. The big rectangular double-sided brush is also useful for ears and body of the dogs. It’s probably going to be better for quickly removing dead hair when a dog is blowing her coat.
The wires aren’t too rough and my dogs seem to tolerate it well. I’m reasonably pleased with all three brushes, but I’m going to get an extra — two extra — of this Hartz brush. I want one to keep in my show bag and one to keep in the car — and when one wears out, I’m going to want another.
Master Grooming Tools Double Flexible Dog & Cat Slicker Brush, Extra Firm.
Got this to replace another brush that was getting on in years. This looked to be similar, so I took a chance. It works really well on my medium hair cat, but her long haired sister not so much. I don’t know if it’s the rubber or what, but it pulls her fur as soon as I try to brush her.
She no longer likes to be brushed as a consequence. It gets 3 stars because I am still able to use it one of the cats.
I love the fact that the tips are not Sharp and I can comb my dogs without injuring their skin. Very easy to clean, also does a very nice job of removing tangles without ripping out hair. I have tree sap to deal with, so happy to have a good detangler.
Happy this brush keeps the loose hair cleaned out of their long coats. The dogs never complain when I brush them now, great style of brush, don’t need pressure to make it work. I have a short haired dog I can not use this on very often, so I bought a boar bristle brush for her.
Make grooming your pets easier than ever with the Professional Grooming Set from Pet Magasin. This 3-in-1 collection combines three top-selling brushes in one package: the double-sided brush, long-tooth undercoat rake and de-matting comb.
Now, you can ensure your furbaby is always looking his best, without breaking a sweat or purchasing multiple brushes. Remove stubborn knots with the de-matting comb, gently pull extra hair from his undercoat (before it sheds!) and brush your BFF into a style with the double-sided brush.
Not only can grooming be a fur-rrific bonding experience, but it can also help reduce shedding and keep those fur tumbleweeds to a minimum. Plus, because one size fits all, this set is ideal for pet parents with multiple critters—and can be used across multiple species.
Easily groom your entire furry brood without trading out your tools. It’s everything you need to get your supermodels photoshoot ready.
This thing is so tiny it is smaller than my hand and I have small hands! The pins are really flimsy and bent. And not just in the way they are supposed to be bent. It is NOT worth the money spent. This is something you might expect to find at a dollar store.
It’s like the brush you would give a toddler to use to “help” you brush your cat. I have a long haired car and haven’t even tried it yet but I am very disappointed. This isn’t going to last long at all.
The pins are thinner than the average needle. Please please don’t buy this thing!! Waste of money.
Have a 9 month old Berner. Full brushing/combing every ever other day. The brushes metal bristle pad detached from brush. Reattached to the brush a couple times, but can’t apply pressure on brush strokes w/o it detaching.
Then handle broke. Game over. Converted to human hair brushes. More options and better construction. The other items work OK.
This is a happy surprise. I’ve a long hair ginger cat who has just been plagued with mats recently. So while I usually used a brush, it was relatively light weight and didn’t do the job. This set is surprisingly well made, comes in a nice bag which, when, the cat sees me retrieve it, cannot wait for me to get it out and brush him.
One tool, easily pulls out the particularly difficult mats without pain, apparently. When we’re finished and I have a handful of fur, he tries to hold the brush and rub his chin on it. So it was a good buy, and while I’m amazed he still has fur left on his body (we’ve brushed a lot out), he enjoys the activity (nearly every day) even with the cloud of excess fur we generate.

I wanted to get something I use to help with my dobermans shedding. My black doberman sheds like crazy and my red doberman sheds a little. I debated between this and the “Furminator” for a few days. I thought that the “Furminator” was just too expensive, in my opinion.
But what if this “Furblaster” doesnt work at all, and then I end up having to buy the Furminator anyway. But then what if the “Furblaster” works great?! I would save money! So I decided to just go with the “Furblaster” and see what happens.
Wanna know what happened? Of course you do! A WHOLE LOT OF DESHEDDED HAIR!! Like an INSANE amount! I kept asking my dogs “how are you not bald yet?!?!” and they were like “We don’t know, and we don’t care! Just don’t stop brushing us because we are LOVING this!” At least I’m 100% positive that’s what they would have said.
ya know. if they could talk. Anyhoo. I am super impressed with this brush. I notice WAY less hair laying around the house, collecting in the corners, decorating my outfit of the day, permanently stuck to the interior seats of my truck like their glued onto the upholstery, floating in my coffee and somehow ending up in my mouth at the most random of times.
(Looking at you black doberman). NOW, I will say, the very first time I used this brush, even though I was floored by the amount of hair coming off of my dogs, it did stir up a massive amount of dander.
HOWER- both of my dogs struggled with flakey/dandruff-y shampoo and I had just bathed them with a new (super, phenomenally awesome) shampoo (from 4-Legger, totes recommend, not sponsored). So the fact that they both looked like I had just sprinkled table salt on them, wasn’t their best look.
But the more I used the brush, the better and better there coats got! It may gave been a double play between the brush and shampoo, but who knows. Either way, my dobermans are looking MAJESTIC AF, and I have way less dog hair around my house and in my truck.
The brush itself is super sturdy, good quality, doesnt feel cheap or like it’s going to fall apart. I love that the comb part comes off for easy cleaning as well. And even though the main structure of the brush is plastic, I definitely expect it to last a VERY long time as long as one of the dogs stops thinking it’s the worlds greatest toy and trying to run away with it in his mouth.
This is a decent tool for brushing my American Bulldog. He has straight, short hair that is almost like quills. He sheds a decent amount and when he itches or shakes it is noticeable especially in the spring time when losing that winter coat.
i wasn’t sure it was working at first, it seemed so light but after a little while of my cat arching her back and shaking her tail (she’s picked up some doggy traits, tail wagging is joy for her) while I brushed her, there was a good amount of shedding collected.
it’s easy on my hand and so slick it doesn’t pull any hair. it went smoothly with the grain, no need to really work at it, an angle helps but it’s quick to figure out. i think we’re both happy with it and i noticed compared to similar tools on here it’s alot less expensive.
on top of that there’s a card with an easy warranty, a free training ebook talking about behaviours as well, and even a discount on your next purchase. i’m glad i picked this one and i feel like the company is great too.

And truly this awsome product delivers. Imagine heading out for a night on the town wearing your favorite party dress. Usually when your getting dressed up you try to avoid. The ever so loving, jump up by your dog, or the incirculing 360 from your faithfull cat.
Oh yes the warm affectionate goodbyes, they know your leaving. They offer A little want to show you there apprection. Well you can avoid the No get down go away. and say Yes, Love You To, Just a couple brush strokes from this amazing grooming tool and the loose hair stays in the grooming tool where it should, not on your favorite black slacks or little black dress.
Can you Imagine to never say no again. And a night out starts out great knowing they got the warm goodbye they deserve. One little grooming tool can add 1000’s of happy hellos and goodbye for now. Affection shared for the always loving you fur babbies.
As the owner of two cockers, I am looking forward to avoiding mats this winter. Seeing how well this brush works with their shorter summer coats, I have no doubt that this will be even more helpful when I let their full coats come in thicker this winter.
Every spring, I battle mats when I go to clip off their thicker coats, and hopefully we will have far less to deal with given how well it works now.

And since it picks up loose hair from your pet’s coat, it will also reduce the amount of loose hair that covers your floors, furniture and clothes!.
Bought this with our shedding short haired dog in mind but he hated the feel of it and wouldn’t submit to brushing. It also didn’t seem to work too well on short hair. The cat, however, LOVED this deshedder! It gently pulled out all kinds of wooly undercoat that has never been removed by a conventional cat brush.
I’ve got a shepherd/lab mix and I’ve used this several times on her. It’s an ok product; I’d like it to get more of the underneath fur, but it doesn’t. I don’t feel it’s much different than using the hoop or a brush.
It still gets plenty of hair, just not enough for my liking.
I had my doubts at first about this brush since the teeth were so small and close together. My Sheppards have very long thick hair, but this does great. It’s taking some time to get all the loose hair but hoping it finally helps with all the tumbleweeds if hair all around the house.
As a pet parent, it’s common to be overwhelmed by fur. Hundreds of wispy strands cling to furniture, clothes, blinds, everything it can get a hold of, and hairy tumbleweeds dance throughout your home, taking up residence in every nook and cranny.
These are the indicators that the never-ending vacuuming and sweeping have arrived. If you feel like your dog or cat is losing their fur faster than you can clean, it’s time to break the cycle and stop dreading shedding.
Hartz Groomer’s Best Fur Fetcher is a revolutionary de-shedding tool that removes 3 times more fur than brushing alone. This cat de-shedding tool works for the most extreme year round shedders by removing loose fur from the undercoat without harming the skin and top coat.
The Fur Fetcher is without harsh blades and utilizes micro combs to make grooming enjoyable for you and your furry best friend. With the comfortable, ergonomic handle, you can spend more time pampering your pup and less time cleaning up after them.
100 out of 5 stars! This tool is amazing and makes the often frustrating job of removing shed fur from thick or long coats effortless! We have a Shubu Inu and a Bernese GSD mix. They have very dense coats that shed enough for 5 dogs! Our Bernese GSD’s coat is also course, long, and curly.
Our dogs loved this tool! Instead of running away at grooming time they beg to be groomed! This tool doesn’t pull like slicker brushes. TIP: Keep a shop vac nearby because you will be stunned by the amount of shed fur this tool gets out of you dog’s coat! Best of all, it is so easy to remove the hair from the tool to clean it.
Rescued an abandoned dog. Part Great Pyrenees. It’s July and over 100 degrees now for weeks, the poor thing. Can’t shave these type dogs. I swear she had all of her winter coat still. I used the brush with all the metal wires for a couple of weeks.
It was doing okay, or so I thought. I bought this yesterday. And I have removed more in one brushing than in past two weeks! Well worth the $20!! Clean bill of health. Shots and all that jazz. But want to ‘clean her up’ before I take her to the groomers.
They would have to shut down to get the hair blown out of the shop !!! This brush has no wires at all.
I saw how small it was and wondered how it would work on a big dog. It is totally amazing. His fur sheds so much. It took a whole lot off on the first use. He is ready for more sessions to get rid of all this fur.
That was the best $20 I have spent in a long while. I used it on the cat and small dog. All had no complaint. They are begging to be brushed more. The brush gets down deep into the hair but does not hurt their skin.
The small is for long haired dogs up to 20 pounds. The medium is for long haired dogs up to 21-50 pounds. The large is for long haired dogs up to 51-90 pounds. The giant is for long haired dogs over 90 pounds.
Reduces loose hair from shedding up to 90% on regularly groomed dogs! Stainless steel De-Shedding edge reaches deep beneath your dog’s long topcoat to gently remove undercoat and loose hair. Used and loved by professional groomers.
The “FURejector” button cleans and removes loose hair from the tool with ease. Designed by a groomer for professional results!.
This tool works great on my ~60lb Sheppard mix. Although he is an indoor dog, he loves being outside playing and laying in the dirt. He is also a shedder and brings all that dirt into the house deposit it along with the hair.
The FURminator Deshedding Tool works great to help get rid of his excess/loose hair (along with the dirt) as well as some of the dander he has. It must feel good on his skin because he sits still as I use it on him (no leash required) and he leans into the tool as it glides across his torso, neck and tail.
Some areas of his coat is thicker and more coarse than others so I make sure to use the tool slowly and smoothly to ensure a good experience for both of us. The head of the tool is slightly curved so it covers a wide area with each stroke.
I have small hands but the handle of the tool fits comfortably in my hand without causing hand cramps and the base of the handle helps keep the tool in my hand. One area for improvement is the ‘hair ejector’.
This button pushes the captured hair & dander from the teeth of the tool. The ejector seems to push the hair from the center of the tool, but does not reach the edges. This loosens the captured hair, but it does not eject it from the tool.
I would like the hair to be ejected directly into the trash rather than my removing it. Otherwise, Buddy and I highly recommend this tool.
I have a 60 pound white boxer with short fur that sticks to and in everything. It really pours off of him like a waterfall anytime someone goes in for pets. I’m honestly surprised he’s not bald with the rate he loses fur.
I’ll admit that I rarely brush him to begin with, so I am convinced that any sort of regular brushing would have been effective in managing his fur waterfall. But, I do believe the Furminator does a great job in getting the undercoat, especially at this time of year (late spring/early summer).
The Furminator has changed by brushing habits for two reasons- 1. My dog seems to love it, and I can tell the daily brushings are effective. We collect less fur each day. 2. The guilt I have over spending $35 on a comb forces me to use it, thus establishing effective grooming habits.
It has been the only tool that has caused me to stick to a routine. Solid brush, very well built, effective for short haired dogs, the click-to-cleanout feature is great. Four stars ONLY because it does a fantastic job of loosening fur, but doesn’t always remove it from my dog.
I make him do zoomies around the yard to get the free floaters off.
I was skeptical about spending this kind of money on what felt like “just a brush” for my lab, but she was starting to shed small clumps of fur everywhere and was still bushy. This brush was used for a few minutes one day (she wouldn’t stand still), and closer to 20 minutes the second day.
What a difference! I liked that the Furminator had what I consider to be a “guard,” helpful for wrongly dogs and inquisitive toddlers who tried to help (the help was denied). I was afraid the edges were going to be too rough on her skin and fur but they definitely weren’t! The brush was used on the obvious itches of fur fluff, and it was so satisfying seeing the clumps of fur come out.
My dog definitely wriggled around a ton using this (totally normal for her to NOT sit still), but eventually quieted down and seemed to enjoy the brushing. Her coat is so much softer and silkier after this brushing, it’s like night and day! So glad I fought my skepticism and purchased this, it’s worth the money and will be used frequently to help keep poor dogs cost in line so she stays cool during the summer heat!.
The Well & Good Prostyle Pivoting Slicker Brush for Dogs offers a salon-grade grooming tool you can rely on to keep your pup’s coat fluffy and full from head to paw. This brush’s pivoting head makes it easy to comb in on those hard-to-reach areas.
I originally got this brush for my dog, who has super short (buzzcut length) fur. She enjoyed what must have felt like a soft back scratching. For that lengrh of hair, I’d recommend being very gentle with this brush, though.
What I did not anticipate was how much my cat (short/ medium length fur) would enjoy this brush. She purred like crazy, and we made some serious headway on the constant shedding. Both animals are shiny and happy at the end of each grooming session.
The brush feels sturdy and has a nice, comfortable grip. I find that it is easy to clean, too.
I really wanted to like this. I tried this out on my German Shepherd. The tilting head was nice because i felt like it was puncturing my fur baby when i was brushing his legs however the noise when it tilts ks annoying.
I did like the size of the brush and amount of bristles – the brush picked up his hair pretty well. I wish there was a button to help push the hair out of the brush, its so hard to remove the hair from the center of the brush.
Other brushes out there are more user friendly and you wont end up with hair everywhere trying to remove it from the brush.
At first I was quite skeptical about this brush due to the metal bristles. My dog always fights being brushed and constantly bites the brushes or combs. I started brushing him and after a few minutes he sat down and let me brush him.
First time ever without a fight. He loves being brushed now and gets excited when I bring out the brush. It is very well made and gets the loose hairs out nicely. I now call it my miracle brush. I highly recommend this product.

Absolutely loving this brush. I have bought so many trying to get rid of all the loose hair on my Rottie x Staffy and this is the only one that works. It loosens the hair and also pulls it together so I can easily pick it up and throw it in the bin.
My cat usually only let me brush him with my fingers but still not for long, and hides whenever he sees a brush. Not anymore, he enjoyed being brush by this brush and I can brush him longer than using my fingers, hair comes out easily & brush easy to clean, very happy!.
Finn my cat can’t get enough of this brush, he goes into complete bliss mode purring and contented, will actually try and cut in on the dog being brushed. The amount of hair this gets out is unbelievable, and it’s great on carpets and clothes to remove hair using the back side.

Dogs up to 9 Kg Size M:Dogs 9 kg to 23 kg Size L: Dogs 23 kg to 41 kg.
Furminators are a must for me now. At least once every few months we have a proper groom (when my labs start to shed) and this is the tool for the job. I would warn though that due to the size, it’s not easy to get into small places and can be tricky to wield around wrinkles/bumps- so I have a little one I use for tricky bits (and our cat) and I leave the legs and face to a softer brush.
This thing is made for buisness! That means you have to be far more careful than with some tools. It grabs fur really well so it’s important to slowly go from the top to the undercoat, or you may end up pulling your dog’s skin.
Similarly too much pressure can scratch the dog, although our’s have never bled/visibly been hurt- so it may just be uncomfortable when it’s too close to the skin. Being light is very important- you get used to the motion to lift the hair off by raising the wrist at the end of the stroke too.
I have had three Furminator tools like this over the years and two of them have lost a tooth each- I haven’t a clue when but it’s something to be aware of. They’re great quality and the grips/button are similar to a really nice bike’s handles.
I can’t recommend them enough. Just go easy with how often they’re used- our black lab looked like the night’s sky for a while with the amount of dead skin I was brushing to the top of his coat every day.
This is your once a week/fortnight tool- not your daily maintenance.
I have a German Shepherd husky mix. Twice a year roughly she sheds a lot. And I mean A LOT! I bought this a few years ago off of Amazon and it was wonderful. I had to brush her a few times a week outside.
This furminator brush was a great purchase. It was a little more pricey than I would have liked to have paid for it but it was totally worth every penny. It really helps with getting the hair off of her and grabbing the undercoat.
I would have to spend maybe 10 to 15 minutes with her outside brushing her every other day maybe 3 days apart because she’s a large dog and there’s a lot of fur. Without this furminator brush my house was covered in fur EVERYWHERE.
I have a long haired husky-malamute! 😅🥲 when I say it’s tough…. ITS TOUGH! Lol this definitely helped me but I don’t believe it says something very important! I started to realize that it would kind of cut the hair idk how but I would notice my dogs hair shorter.
Idk if it’s the metal on it or that’s just a little grooming it does but I did notice this! I wouldn’t say it’s a con bc it helped but it may be for other owners. I wish it was just a bit wider but over its a good product.
Definitely up there in price. I personally find the Rake brush works better on my long haired husky-malamute this one doesn’t goes as deep.
Mark III Slicker brush by Chris Christensen, maker of quality products for dog shows, show dog grooming Beautifully handcrafted Beech wood slicker brush with high grade steel pins for less coat damage Mark III Slicker MD A5III Mark III Slicker brush by Chris Christensen, maker of quality products for dog shows, show dog grooming.
Beautifully handcrafted Beech wood slicker brush with high grade steel pins for less coat damage. Ultra-soft, extra flexible cushion with base of one fourth inch foam. Shape and contours of the handle do all the work for you instead of wrist being at a constant angle.
I bought the brush anticipating a long-haired puppy. Our actual pup turned out to be short-haired. I tried the brush on our two Maine Coon cats, both of whom have undercoats. What a revelation! The brush works incredibly well and the cats adore being brushed with it.
These are cats that have grudgingly tolerated being brushed. Finally, they like it! It works so well, I immediately sent one to my friend who has siblings to our two. Highly recommended.
Not only are they gentler on your dog’s skin but they last. I just tossed out my mark III from March 2018 as the rubber started to tear – I groom 4-6 dogs every weekend AND condition coats throughout the week.
This brush was used multiple times a week – I keep one in my home grooming area and one in my box for shows. I also send a mark III home with every puppy kit! I would rather spend the money on the right brush and be sure they are kept in proper condition from day one.
I have been grooming for 10 years and this is THE best brush I have ever used. it gets a fair amount of undercoat, separates the hair perfectly for brushing and scissors, holds up wonderfully (my coworker has had hers for 3 years) and it is just great quality overall.
I have been hesitant to buy this because its about 25 bucks more then an average slicker brush, but if your in the bussiness, or even have your own family pet, this will last, so it IS worth it! even works great on cats.
Les Poochs Hard Purple Mega Double Brush An amazing piece of equipment that de-matts and detangles with no major discomfort to the dog and in most cases without having to cut the matt. Suitable for: Collies Samoyeds Sheepdogs Golden Retrievers Newfoundlands Huskies.
I adore the Les Poochs range of brushes. There’s different brushes for different coats, breeds and does different jobs. They are all color coated which helps quite a bit with telling the different between them while running a busy doggroomers.
The thing I most like is they last longer and are flexible.
This efficient double row undercoat rake is designed to be more comfortable when you groom your dog. It reduces the risk of repetitive motion injury when you use it. The rake has hardened steel teeth that glide through the pets coat to remove undercoat and dead hair.
Works with speed and efficiency. Ergonomic handle keeps hand and wrist in a natural position to reduce fatigue Non-slip handle Ribbed rubber handle provides gentle cushioning Balance and handle give greater control Double row of teeth on rake make raking even easier Professional groomers and pet owners will love this double row undercoat rake.
My current pet rake was at least 25 years old & the handle had been chewed on by a puppy so I thought this product would be a great replacement & that it was treated for hair to clean off easily sounded good.
The handle is nice, but the easy clean treatment apparently keeps this from doing what it should. I can use this new rake for a long period of time, getting very little fur off, then use my old rake & get lots of fur off on the first pass.
These are great for thicker coated dogs to even labs. It takes all the fur that can start to mat whenever they start shedding. Very simple to use and the price point is great. It’s a very quality line to buy from.
They fit in your hand to keep from aching. This is about the only brand I care for and look for it at my local pet stores. You end up getting gobs of hair off in no time with this!.
Evolution Grooming Tools provide a gentle way to quickly untangle a pet’s coat. The rotating teeth pull through the coat without damaging it. Pins and handles are made from the highest quality material and offer long lasting durability.
I wasn’t sure what to expect. Surprisingly all 3 of my pets (2 dogs, 1 cat) really like this comb. I honestly didn’t think rotating teeth could make a difference but they do! And the smooth tips on the teeth are greatly appreciated by my pets.
I’m glad I bought an extra comb for my friend. You won’t be disappointed with this comb.
This comb works better than any that I’ve ever used and believe me that’s a lot. Every now or then it will pull the hair on Lacy but the rolling combs clear any tangles and remove them with less glances and grows from Lacy.
I would recommend these to anyone who wants to untangle their fur babies without hurting them.
FURminator Grooming Rake helps remove loose hair from thick fur. Prevents matted hair Suitable for daily use Helps prevent tangles and matts Nonslip handle FURminator Grooming Rake for pets with thick fur removes loose hair, tangles and prevents matted hair.
Use daily for 5-10 minutes per session on dry hair. Rotating metal teeth remove loose hair from undercoat. Help prevent tangles and matted hair in dense fur. For pets with thick fur or dense double coats.
Ergonomic nonslip handle for maximum control. From the makers of the Original FURminator deShedding Tool.
I currently own two rough collies. Several times a year they blow their undercoat. I had previously used the original type FURminator with my huskies, and it was a god-send. But it did not work for the long, thick fur my collies have.
I was ecstatic to find this FURminator rake. I have other rakes, but this one works like nothing else I have. It really clears out the loose undercoat quickly and easily without pulling and hurting. I highly recommend this grooming tool.
My dog HATES being brushed. His hair is INSANELY long, and at 9 months old he wriggles around the entire time I try to brush him, making it impossible to be thorough. He just stays tangly and fur can’t properly shed.
Every brush I’ve tried he doesn’t like. Enter this brush, wow. It still took a bit of convincing, and crazy wriggly dances around my living room, but I saw tons of fur was shedding off even while he was resisting.
So I let him relax the rest of the day, patiently waiting til the evening when he curled up with me at the end of my pregnancy pillow for bedtime. I figured his sleepiness was my gain, and I was correct.
I was able to show him the brush is his friend, and he let me groom him from nose to tail for the first time, ever. He would even look upset at me if I stopped brushing and started petting him. Got it on sale too, so I am insanely happy with this purchase.
My cat even liked it too, and she’s also weird with brushes. she’ll only let me use my own personal brush, go figure.
Chelsea is a long haired GSD, and grooming her has been challenging. She’s a rescue, so one challenge is that she didn’t learn to enjoy being groomed when she was young. Another is that she sheds continually, not just seasonally, so deep grooming in an ongoing process.
The rake will be a good addition to the brush box for her, but to get the most use from the rake her coat needs to be free of tangles, mats, and foreign matter. So grooming is still a big job, but I am very hopeful that the Furminator rake will be very useful in keeping her coat beautiful.
Detangle and Shine at the Same Time!!! 3 patents and multiple industry awards. The single most functional pet brush you can buy! Premium natural bristles distribute natural oils, creating a beautiful shine while the alloy pins detangle and style the coat.
Eco-friendly natural bamboo handle with a luxury grade finish. Used and recommended by professional groomers all over the world. Best for medium to long coats.
I have three dogs who all have different sensitivity levels, [dog is begging to be brushed] energy levels and hair types. I have a black lab with very thick long fur (12), [dog is begging to be brushed] a beagle pit mix with short hair (3), and a border Collie with thick hair (2).
I’ve had other metal bristled brushes [dog is begging to be brushed] but they act as if it’s painful or not a pleasant sensation. [dog is begging to be brushed] Even my lab who has thick fur gets enough of the other brushes, fairly quickly.
I bought this brush at my Natural Grocers in Jefferson City, MO just [dog is begging to be brushed] yesterday and I’ve had to stop writing this review 5 times, already, because my dogs keep coming back to the table to get brushed.
I’ve never experienced such a phenomenon. It’s wonderful. I can’t say for sure if the brush adds shine because their coats are already shiney but the middle of the brush collects the hair fabulously.
It does take some pinching to get the hair back out but it doesn’t take long. [Dog is begging to be brushed] I seriously can’t get a break, now! It’s nice for them to come to me and stand her instead of them just rolling over or looking sad about stuff.
I’m not telling you that you should buy this brush, but buy this brush. P. s. to Bass, if you need a groom tester, Shadow, Groot, and Yoda would love to give you their feedback! Seriously, [dog begging to be brushed] I can’t stress this brush, enough!!!! Too funny.
First time long haired cat owner here. I have the comb with pins that spin as suggested, but I wanted more. Saw this brush. Figured I’d give it a try. My scared rescue loves it. She wants this one over the comb.
I’m getting the small oval too. This is a really nice quality brush and both cats love it. I’m also noticing more shine in her long coat. She arrived in not the best shape and grooming with this brush has absolutely made a difference.
My cat hates to be brushed, but with this one, he loves it! I have purchased other brushes to use on Ziggy but he fights them. He will tolerate 1 or 2 strokes before trying to bite. With Bass Brush, the problem has been solved.
Now he purrs, rubs his cheeks on it, I can brush him with ease and for a longer period of time. Spend the money, it’s worth it!.
The JW GripSoft Dog Deshedding Tool removes large amounts of loose fur and debris to reduce overall shedding and promote a healthy skin and coat. Gripsoft technology features non-slip grips and ergonomic handle which are made to optimize comfort and control while grooming your pet.
Long lasting and durable stainless steel blades provide years of use. Regular use will decrease the amount of shedding around the house by removing large patches of unwanted hair at once.
I previously made a negative review about this comb because it didn’t work well for my Smooth Fox Terrier. She has a thick coat and has a decent amount of shedding year round. Since then we got a husky and boy does he shed! I think huskies might be my new definition of real shed.
But we’ve been struggling with constant flyaway hairs even after using a great top coat comb in showers and she he’s dry. So I remembered I had this and decided to give it another try. I kid you not, it got rid of maybe 90% of his flyaway hairs.
This was what we took off of him after his shower from yesterday. I don’t recommend for Terriers or dogs similar to Costa like terriers because it’s not effective. But on huskies it’s a game changer!.
This tool is amazing! I bought it specifically to de-tangle my cat who had lots of mats on his lower back. I didn’t even know short haired cats could get matted up and when I noticed it he probably had 20 knots.
So gross and I know uncomfortable for him. I got online and read reviews and found this. I’m not gonna lie it was hard to figure out how to use it first without hurting him. It took a couple of sessions so he could tolerate it.
After a while I learned how to work them out. He was pretty angry at me but I was so amazed! I got all of these deeply knitted mats out And his fur is now clean and smooth. I plan to use it going forward at least once a week to keep him in shape.
I didn’t really understand how mats worked until now (Undercoat tangling up). I highly recommend this tool.
Ali is a 6 year old DSH that doesn’t enjoy brushing but heavily sheds year round. Ali sheds twice as much as my American bobtail Jezebel & I’m convinced it’s because unlike the longer coat cat who demands nightly brushing, Ali doesn’t allow us to brush her at all.
I purchased this brush with that in mind. Ali continues to shed but thanks to this inexpensive brush the shedding has become manageable. I suspect If Ali would allow more frequent brushing this little brush would minimize the shedding significantly.
At present brushing is allowed 1 a week for no longer than 10 minutes & never her belly.
Keep your pet clean and well-groomed at home with the FURminator firm slicker brush. Ideal for medium, long and curly coats, the brush grooms your pet’s coat without damaging it. It is designed with straight bristles on one side and bent bristles on the other side.
The dual-flex design follows the contours of your pet’s body, and the bristles work to remove surface mats and tangles without damaging your pet’s coat. The ergonomic handle offers comfortable use, and the brush is made from antimicrobial plastic to help prevent the growth of bacteria.
I really really love this brush! I have a fine, long haired border collie sheltie mix and a coarse, medium-haired border collie sheltie mix and this thing actually works for both of them. When they have fursplosions I do daily rounds of brushing for about 30 minutes until the fursplosion ends, can we go back to our shorter daily brushing.
It also works very well on my fine, dense furred cat who is very impossible to brush otherwise. I highly recommend this!.
My ACD has a really thick undercoat which he blows out once a year. His hair comes out in clumps. This has got to be the best brush so far that we have tried. I thought the metal bristles would maybe hurt him, but he LOVES being brushed and this pulls out those clumps of hair like no other.
Probably what helps is the brush has two flexible sides which move with the shape of the dog when you brush so there are no hard edges and probably why he doesn’t mind being brushed since this prevents poking.
This is much more effective than the flat, hard brushes. Love, love, LOVE this brush!.
The dual purpose Safari Pin and Bristle Combo Dog Brush features the benefits of both wire pins to lift out loose hair and debris and bristles to distribute the dog’s natural oils throughout the coat.
For coats with mats or tangles, use a comb or rake to detangle the hair prior to brushing. Starting at the head, move toward the tail, then down the legs using long strokes that follow the direction of hair growth.
The pin brush can also be used to fluff the coat by brushing against the direction of hair growth. Provides two grooming tools in one with dual design. Easily removes loose hair and debris with wire pins.
Bristles distribute natural oils evenly throughout coat for healthy, shiny hair. Great for all breeds and coat types. Ideal for households with multiple pets. ApplicationsIdeal for everyday use. Distributes natural oils for a shiny, healthy coat and lifts out loose hair and debris.
I purchased one of these brushes last summer from a local shop. I have Pomeranians and keep them in full coat. It worked very well to get through their thick undercoats. I liked the smooth pins (no knobs on the ends that pull their coats)and the comfortable handle.
I actually purchased a second brush to have on hand. Unfortunately when I was using the first brush before Christmas I felt the handle crack. I decided to try to use superglue to fix it, but when I looked closer it had cracked several places around the rubber brush base.
Thankfully I had the second one, or so I thought, until I used it on one dog and it cracked the same way. Evidently there is a weak spot in the handle where it widens into the brush. I am very disappointed in the quality of the handle.
I see there used to be a wooden handled version. I would love to try one of those as it shouldn’t crack. I am going to give this brush one more try. hopefully the handle will last on this one.
I have used a Furminator brush on my Australian Shepherd for years, due to her heavy, double coat. Unfortunately , her coat has gotten very thin due to chemotherapy & the Furminator is just too harsh on her skin.
The Safari Bristle Brush is exactly what we need right now. It smooths her coat and the bristles are gentle enough to not irritate her skin. This is not a heavy duty brush meant to remove undercoat, but if you need a gentle brush to smooth your dog’s coat, it’s perfect for that!.
I wanted to try a bunch of different products for my dog to see which one works. We received the brush with the green handle. I’ve tried grooming my corgi with this brush before, but I just don’t think this brush was the best brush for grooming a corgi’s coat.
Corgis are double coated. The metal bristles on this brush are very thin and don’t permeate his top coat well enough for me to reuse this brush- especially if I’m trying to brush/comb out his undercoat.
I just use the Andis Steel Comb for pets now for grooming my corgi which I highly recommend for anyone else who has/is looking to get a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Chewy also sells steel combs for anyone who is looking to groom their corgis.
This brush feel solid for the appropriate dog, but it wasn’t the right comb/brush for my dog.
There are a variety of different grooming tools that can be used on golden retrievers, depending on the specific needs of the dog. For example, if a golden retriever has a lot of fur, then a brush or comb can be used to help remove any tangles or mats.
If the golden retriever has dry skin, then a moisturizing shampoo or conditioner may be recommended. Additionally, if the golden retriever has any allergies, then a hypoallergenic shampoo may be recommended.
Ultimately, the best grooming tools for golden retrievers will be determined by the specific needs of the individual dog.
