20 Best Gloss Black Spray Paint For Rims (2023 Updated)

Instructions recommend spraying above 60 degrees F. Learned the hard way the paint does not cover properly if you don’t, and the final job will look terrible. Knocking two points off for the spray nozzle.

Several times while spraying the nozzle stuck when released and started spurting globs of paint which I had to sand out.

I ‘ve used a dozen cans of this paint restoring my 64 Riviera factory wheels with great results. After thorough prepping, I put on multiple coats according to the label directions. I let the wheel paint cure for about 1 month and it becomes really hardened.

My wheels look very close to brand new now. Highly recommend this wheel paint.

As with any paint, make sure you do proper preparation. Previous owner used exact paint and didn’t prep the wheels, yet held up for 3 years AI the minor flakes that are hard to notice at a distance. I stopped paint, sanded, primed and used this paint and it turned out very nice.

Decent spray nozzle for a rattle can as well.

I used this to refresh the 10 ceiling air registers in our Airbnb rather than pay $13 each for new ones. It took 2 thin coats to cover thoroughly as described in the instructions. This way it dries faster as well.

The paint came out consistently and didn’t jam up. Hopefully our wall paint looks as good as these registers do!.

I purchased the clear to cover an old deck bench that my daughter wanted refinished. The only “problem” I encountered was that I ran out of the clear enamel before I could apply a 3rd and 4th coat, which is necessary for wood that is exposed to occasional sun.

That lasted for a year, and I went back again this spring to sand it lightly and then coat again. The clear is non-yellowing, and I have tried it on my deck rails to replace spar varnish that becomes darker with every coat and cracks badly.

Any heavy exposure to sun is rough on any clear enamel or finish, but the UV protection of Rustoleum makes it a good clear coat for top coating a deck waterproofer-stain. No coating is perfect, but this is the best clear top coat I have found.

I am purchasing a case of clear today from ACE to cover an old deck table that I power-washed and coated with a deck waterproofer-stain. Yearly maintenance is a necessity with any deck work. I let mine get away from me.

Cheap clear color to seal does it’s job fine If you find your paint is bubbling up and peeling please check the cure time for the paints you use underneath. Some paints take much longer to cure than this spray and it will disrupt the paint if it’s not cured before spraying the top coat.

That goes with any top coat that has a quick cure time.

I first tried this product on some galvanized farm gates that I had to touch up for rust spots and general wear. My 1st worry was to match the old galvanized coloration. Well, I got lucky, the product was in a perfect match for the gates and now I’m going to do my entire windmill head with it.

I’s an outstanding product and a decent price. I would recommend it highly for galvanized touch ups!.

Paint is easy to use and is applied well. Paint is specified as Caterpillar Yellow but it is not clear which shade. It seems to be “OLD Caterpillar (Highway) yellow, NOT the current “Performance Yellow” color.

There is a noticeable difference between the two.

I was looking for a performance wheel paint that was not to expensive and in a flat color. This product did everything it said on the can as log as you can prep the surface correctly and read you to can achieve some great results.

Thin coats , easy to Ally and again very nice self leveling properties.

Rust-oleum black wheel paint looks great once it is dry and you did the prep work right, now I will have to see how long it will last.

This paint has a pro look to it for sure. It doesn’t look primer flat it has a real nice look like a factory did it. flows out nice ! Smooth finish looks like you spent big money on your wheels.

EZ touch fan spray nozzle with two directions for spraying worked great. Paint coverage was excellent. All 10 cans had great pressure and the finish was like glass.

I will have to say that Duplicolor is a great paint. The spray caps will give you good fanning which is what you need. There are better one but for the price. very good. I used the black on a motorcycle fram but just for a base color and didn’t need the gloss.

Scuffed it down for a top coat. The gloss was good but not awesome until you color / wet sand this. I used 600 on other parts. After a color wet sand. applied Spray Max 2K high gloss clear coat. beautiful rich color.

Take your time and you can have a very professional look.

I was so happy with this paint that I felt compelled to write a positive review for it. I am a “lazy” painter and my painting projects reflect that usually. 😛 but I used this for an aluminum motorcycle wheel on top of self etching primer and it turned out super.

Nice and glossy with no clear coat necessary. I don’t even think I’ll barely need to buff it. Very proud of my wheel and very happy with this paint.

Excellent coverage and quick drying. It did dribble on the nozzle but that’s likely user error.

Great paint! From a good company. We were pleased with the end results.

I used this after working on some rusted spots on the rocker panel and under carriage of my old minivan to try to seal up some rusty spots. I did a modest amount of prep work–and in one case, could not get down to bare metal and just knocked off the loose rust.

The paint I applied doesn’t match the car paint, but that wasn’t the goal. It seems to be holding up very well including after a trip from Utah to South Dakota and back–to be fair we only drove over a few places where there were loose rock from freshly oiled roads.

But I’m very pleased with the result.

This is the worst product I have ever used. If I could give it negative review would give it a -10. I previously did touch-up paint on my 1999 Ford Ranger truck five years ago with Rustoleum Auto Spray Paint, which I can no longer find.

It worked great, no runs, no pitting, no problems blending newly painted areas, and it has lasted five years. Krylon Rust Tough was recommended by the Advanced Auto store salesperson. It is absolutely Horrible! I have re-done my tailgate three times already and will have to re-do it again.

The surface was prepped to directions. [stripped down to bare metal, primed per directions and wet-sanded according to directions to prep surface for final paint, making sure surface was clean of all dirt, dust, grease, etc.

spraying in a closed in garage, temps btwn 70-80 degrees outside] This paint runs very bad. When you try to wet sand with 2000 grit the paint dissolves down to the primer. [two coats with adequate time between coats to allow paint to cure].

It is impossible to blend new paint areas. This last time the paint went on smooth, then pitted and bubbled in various areas as the paint dried. A huge waste of time and money to use this product. Would never recommend it to anyone.

This enamel worked on surfaces that were fresh and primered. If sprayed over another brand of enamel, it would craze and crack the underlying paint. Not always compatible with underlying finishes.

I use this product mostly for final finishes on ceramics, but have also used it on metal, wood, gold leaf, and some plastics. It dries quickly, gives an even glossy coat, brings out color, and is very durable.

I have used it on lacquered, painted, and glazed surfaces. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Most surfaces I use it on do not get a lot of handling, so I do not recommend it for anything that will get heavy use.

Also, this product is not compatible with some acrylic-based sprays and may change surface of some plastics. I also have found that it will not adhere to some plastics used in modernist furniture. Best to test before use.

Use a light spray to avoid drips. Repeat thin coats give better results than thick ones.

I signed up with a home depot account just so I can write how awful this product is. There is no way to lay down a decent finish. No matter what, you will end up with stripes. Possibly because it dries so quickly that it cant actually sink the next pass onto the overlap from the previous.

I’ve wasted money on 3 cans, I’ll probably have to sand it all off and buy another product so money and much time wasted. I should have checked the US home depot site for reviews. many there have said the same thing.

We purchased this as a final cut on a wood fish tank stand after using the 2x gloss black spray paint, which we loved. This spray is like throwing powder at whatever you are painting. If you spray from the recommended distance, it looks like it’s old dusty furniture and you can’t fix it because it drys instantly.

If you get closer, the paint drips automatically and does not go on evenly, so you have some shiny spots and matte spots. Because it dries immediately there is no hope to fix it. We now have to try and get the lacquer off and paint again with the 2x gloss black product again.

We are very upset and wish we knew about this before because we would not have used it and will never use it again for anything.

This is a great paint for application and appearance. Super self-leveling and unlimited spray directions. Smooth, hard and deep black color with the protection I have come to trust with Rust-Oleum products.

It was applied over Rust-Oleum self-etching primer for added security. I used it on all my engine accessories and now my engine bay POPS with the look of baked, gloss enamel!.

I ordered this product online because I couldn’t find it in any local stores. I bought it expressly for the resistance to gasoline and oil and it has performed extremely well. I have no information to offer about the heat resistance.

I used it over a Rustoleum Day-Glo Fluorescent Orange spray and found that it did darken the color of the orange and reduced the day-glo quality of it. However, I highly recommend it for the purpose of protecting your color coat from gasoline and oil.

I would buy it again.

The chemistry of single-part spraypaints has its limitations. as does the tiny nozzle of a spray can. Those things considered, this is an excellent metallic silver spraypaint for wheels. It has a fantastic nozzle which sprays way better and finer than those cheesy plastic buttons they put on most spray cans.

But bear in mind, big metallic flakes are not getting through that tiny nozzle so there are none – it won’t blend well with a factory wheel that was applied paint by a robot with an HVLP gun shooting metallic flake.

It’s a more homogenous, teeny-tiny-sparkles kind of silver, but very close to OEM-looking and a good fit for most cars. It is NOT “Hyper Silver”. Just good old shiny neutral silver paint with some very fine sparkle to it.

Rather than use it for touch ups, do an entire coat. It will be worth it. Clear coat is a must, this finish does not stand on its own. It’s a thin paint, so do good prep work and make sure the primer is smooth.

If you take your time, do it right, use good spraying techniques and don’t rush, you can get professional looking results.

These wheel paints deliver excellent results during application. I’m doing my wheels in silver with black accents followed by clear coats. Silver and black have been done and look great. Clear coat will go on this weekend.

Easy to work with. Important to start with very light coats and build up with subsequent coats to avoid drips and runs.

I went out on a whim and decided to use this duplicolor wheel paint for a project of mine. I choose this paint over what I normally use for wheels (regular rustoleum pro enamel) because of the fast dry time and I figured that something formulated specifically for wheels might hold up better.

I was wrong, this paint was extremely difficult to able ( it finely mists paint out so it is impossible to get even coverage). Not only was the end result blotchy and uneven, I ended up with a textured finish on certain areas of the wheel I believe from the paint drying and powdering then landing on the wheel as I was painting.

I prepped the wheels correctly, degreased, primed, followed the directions on the can, etc. My paint conditions were are 75F and under 60% humidity. I ended up wasting hours of time in prep and the money I spent on this paint just to have to strip it all off and redo it.

Live and learn I guess.

I actually had a can left over that I used on my fire pit cover and it’s the 1st time what I painted it with actually held up through the elements (winter included) and is still fine. This time I bought a 6 pack to paint the bottom supports of my deck (wood) which I’m re-doing (I used the left over can to start the job and wanted it uniform).

Looks great, shipped fast and ZORO had the best price. Would definitely recommend.

Extremely dissatisfied. Color is rather grayish. Creates a lot of drips. Very liquid, Not glossy enough. The worst paint

Sprayed over 15 thin coats on my rims and they haven’t chipped yet. Need at least two cans for a set of 4. A third would’ve gave the rims a glossier finish

I I bought four cans of krylon textured paint desert sand when a Walmart site tmto order. I’ve always had excellent service from Walmart never had a problem before but I have found out that Walmart contracts out to other companies a lot well this spray paint come from a Ron’s Auto.

The paint from Walmart as I ordered it was $9. 97 a can when this paint came it came one can of time and only one can came thank goodness, because Ron’s Auto was charging $26. 97 for one can of spray paint but I did call Walmart in Norton yeah man’s name Eric and he was very very well trained and seemed to be very knowledgeable about the paint I was trying to explain to him about but he got a refund for me, and I’ll turned out well but if you order from Walmart online please check and see where your products are coming from and who you’re buying them from just because it says Walmart don’t mean that what’s going on or they haven’t contracted that particular product that you want out with some other company.

The day I talked to Mr Eric in Norton Virginia after Walmart I also bought four cans of the krylon textured paint and it was 9. 97 a can just please be careful.

Good paint but only used about 1/4 since the tip clogged and totally quit working. Tried new tip and still wouldn’t work.

I have been ‘rattle canning’ paint jobs for quite some time now, but this was my first time using a water based spray paint. My expectations were very low. Generally, when something is replaced by a more eco friendly product you end up losing all of the quality advantages you had with the original item.

This paint may have changed my mind on that theory however. I needed to paint an old shop fan I had so I decided this gloss black paint would get the nod to apply the color. I lightly dusted a few coats on and the coverage was acceptable.

I noticed the smell was very mild too. After applying 3 light coats I sprayed a heavier coat to try to get the shine to come out. I ended up with a cross between satin and gloss which was fine with me since I took no great pains in the preparation.

I only removed the old paint, scuffed, and wiped the fan down with alcohol prior to paint. The impressive part of this product was it’s ability to keep from sagging even when I moved the can a little slower and inadvertently piled on the paint a little too much.

I was also very happy with the fast drying time. The paint was ‘touchable’ in about 10 minutes. I am very happy with this paint but am a little tentative in giving it a 100% approval since only time will test the real durability.

If the paint does indeed last, then this paint will have met all of my spray painting requirements.
