A generator for an RV air conditioner is a device that produces electricity to power the air conditioner. The generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy, which is then used to run the air conditioner.
The Westinghouse WGen5300DFcv Portable Generator with CO Sensor is a convenient generator to keep you powered on the road or at your home during a power outage. With dual fuel ability, this generator offers versatility by running on either gas or propane (LPG).
With 6,500 peak watts and 5,300 running watts, this generator runs for up to 14. 5 hours at a time with a 4. 7 gallon (18 L) gasoline fuel tank. The WGen5300DFcv features a powerful 274cc 4-Stroke OHV Westinghouse Engine with a cast iron sleeve designed for durability, featuring a built-in fuel gauge and automatic low oil shutdown.
It’s equipped with an RV Ready TT-30R 30A outlet that conveniently hooks to your travel trailer, keeping the air conditioner and travel necessities up and running all day long. Easy to maneuver, it’s constructed with a hardened steel frame and never-flat wheels.
Combined with an L14-30R outlet, it’s Transfer Switch Ready for total household power and eliminates the hassle for annoying extension cords or power strips for your home. An intuitive control panel makes the WGen5300DFcv simple and easy to use with guided yellow touchpoints.
I was a little apprehensive about purchasing the WGen5300DFv generator from a warehouse club, but my concerns quickly faded after getting this unit home. The setup was extremely easy, as it was all together, except for the installing the wheels and rubber feet to the frame.
Westinghouse even provided the tools to do the job in a nice nylon case with a snap closure. Putting it together was all of a 10-minute job. Even the handy handle was already in place and folds down out of the way until you need it easily move the generator.
Since this is a dual-fuel model that runs gasoline or propane, Westinghouse also provided the LPG house to connect to a propane tank that you’ll need to provide. The generator, as all new generator, shipped with no oil added, but Westinghouse provided almost a quart of 4-Stroke oil and a plastic funnel.
I only wish Westinghouse would simply say how much to oil to add (ounces or liters) since it’s time consuming to add a little oil, check the level with the short dipstick, add a little more oil, check the level again.
Repeat. You’ll need to be careful not to overfill. Adding the fuel went much smoother and I really like the quality of the fuel cap, which heavy metal underneath the plastic cap and a metal chain secures the fuel filler cap to the tank housing so it doesn’t get misplaced, which is something I’m prone to do quite a bit.
And Westinghouse became my best friend by adding a fuel gauge right on top of the 14. 7 gallon fuel tank; now I don’t have to wait until the tank runs completely dry before knowing how much fuel is remaining, as on my old generator.
The startup went without a hitch; just follow the starting sequence clearly posted on top of the generator for the choke setting, fuel valve, fuel or propane, starting switch and other settings. The WGen5300 started on the first pull.
I also like the visibility of the bright yellow choke level with the On and Off setting clearly labeled. The fuel valve is also easy to find and clearly labeled. On my old generator I had to guess at those settings with a little trial and error until something worked.
All of the various electrical outlets are grouped together and covered by flip-up covers to keep out dirt and debris when not in use. You’ll find two 120 20A (5-20R) volt outlets, a 120 30A (TT-30R) outlet for travel trailers and a 120.
240 30A (L14-30R) for specific purposes. I plan to use the L14-30R outlet along with a special 30-Amp power cord “Through-The-Wall-Kit” that will provide six outlets in a Power Panel inside the house.
With this approach, I won’t have to leave a window or door cracked to get a power cord inside from the generator. I should also mention that the WGen5300 can be configured to work with a Transfer Switch connection to your electrical panel, but this task is best left to a qualified electrician.
I’m also looking forward to the extended runtime, which can range from 15 to 20 hours on a full tank, probably depending on the load. That should get me from bedtime to the first cup of coffee in the morning I need it to run the freezers and refrigerators all night in a power outage.
At this point, I’m pleased with the initial setup and all the features of the WGen5300. I’m sure it’ll meet my needs if the power grid goes down.
The Westinghouse Generators are my preferred Generator for my home. This is my second Westinghouse Generator I purchased in the past three years. My first Westinghouse Generator I purchased was in 2020, and it was a WGen9500DF with Fab, Remote control and Dual Fuel.
This Generator convinced me to switch over from the Generac Generator to Westinghouse. When I moved from my last house I decided to leave the generator with the house because I outfitted the house with a complete Transfer Switch protocol, so it only made since to leave the WGen9500 with the home.
Now I’m renting a home and I decided to get another generator just to have on hand, so I decided to purchase the Westinghouse WGen5300v. I just got around to setting up the WGen5300v and it was easy as easy can be.
The WGen5300v started up with ease, and I put a load on the generator and it operated flawlessly. I’m elated with my purchase and I’m sure anyone else who purchases a Westinghouse Generator will be happy with the generator.
Lastly, I want to be perfectly honest with anyone who reads this review and that is the price of the Westinghouse Generator was my initial reason for purchasing the WGen95000DF as the price was RIGHT.
I’m so happy I did make the initial purchase because I’m a believer of the Westinghouse Generator, so it was not an issue when it came to me buying another Westinghouse Generator.
I purchased a home in June and living in Florida you never know when the power is going to go out during our summer storms and possible Tropical storms/Hurricanes you definitely need a portable generator.
After researching portable generators I found this little beauty by Westinghouse. It was exactly what I was looking for in terms of size, power, features, and price. And to top it off this can run on either gas or propane! How cool is that! I did sacrifice the electric start for a pull start but for the price and only using it as needed I can live with that.
The generator arrived just a few days after I ordered it on line from Home Depot. After unboxing it, the generator was in perfect condition. Easy set up, and even though kits a pull start it was easy to pull and started right up on the 2nd try and is actually pretty quiet.
It has a CO sensor built in which is a great feature. The real test may come this week, Florida is expecting a Tropical Storm, possibly a Hurricane making landfall this upcoming mid week, its cutting across the state from either southern Florida or the southern west coast.
So I’m sure I’ll be using my new generator for first time and I’m sure glad I have it! I highly recommend this generator.

Reviews From Real Customers
Unpacked assembled in less than 30 minutes. Hooked straight to propane and test started it. Turned over couple times and start and ran smoothly. Purchase for the dual fuel as my gas generator is used for emergency back up for house and the gas has to be replaced every year.
Durostar dual fuel has now replaced my gas one with the use of propane. Durostar generator’s are a great price Would recommend. I own Honda, Champion, blackmax and Durostar. Save your money and buy a Durostar.
We purchased the DS5500EH to support a few household appliances and to take out of town on trips. It is small enough to move around with ease. The electric start is a game changer for us. Our older small generator did not have an electric start and sometimes created issues if not cranked regularly.
We plan to only use propane with this generator due to its ability to be stored for long periods of time unlike gasoline and for safer transport. The folks at Factory Pure are great to work with during the purchasing and delivery process.
We ordered two extension cords that were delayed. They actually called us to let us know about the delay and kept us informed of the status until they arrived. The generator and Factory Pure get two thumbs up!.
This is an excellent product and the price was right. The generator works flawlessly and your company is second to none when it comes to making the customer feel confident and comfortable with making his/her purchase.
Delivery was prompt and in good time considering the weather issues faced. Thank you for your professionalism and courtesy in making this purchase easy. I’m Looking forward to making a second purchase and doing business with you.

This DuroStar workhorse can operate anything from air compressors, air conditioners to basic home power (lights and fridge). The DS4000S is a tried and true piece of equipment. It is well worth it’s weight in gold; as soon as the box is opened you will be amazed at the amount of thought and science that was put into designing this unit.
No corners have been cut in the manufacturing or assembly of these units.
Here in the Midwest we suffer from terrible Storms year-round, From Blizzards in the Winter Tornados and Thunderstorms in Spring and Summer leave us without power from days to weeks in Rural areas. We also love to go Camping in the Spring and Summer.
I searched the internet for about 2 weeks for the best deal/Best performance and customer ratings. I got this Generator for $229. 00 SHIPPING INCLUDED. The Wheel Kit is a must have unless you are going to mount it permanently.
The DuroStar has by far the best Customer ratings of any like priced Generator and even better to some costing much more! It will run our Campers Roof-top AC unit Fridge and lights with no problem if and when needed.
It will also run our Furnace, lights and Refrigerator at it’s top end of power. You need to pull and discard a metal shipping brace and Wooden Block from the underside. I kept the plastic cover to be used as a dust cover, (But only after the Generator has cooled down)! The Choke lever and the Breaker switch are made too flimsy on this model and I don’t understand skimping a few pennyies of material cost on heavier plastic?? also a 12V output would be a nice feature, but at this close-out price I won’t complain too much but I will be ordering an extra choke lever just in case.
I have alwaysbeen Mechanically inclined so I am not afraid of this unit, especially after reading One Star reviews from people over a bolt or two working loose after a few weeks of running, really? The first thing I did was epoxy a small powerful Alnico Magnet onto the inside end of the oil drain plug.
During the break-in period there are always metal shavings that are part of the process while parts that contact each other match up, The Alnico magnet catches those Ferrous Metal shavings so they don’t stay suspended in the oil, this was an old Mechanics trick I use for every Motor that does not already come with a magnetic drain plug.
I used regular 10-W-30 motor oil for the break-in period because Synthetic is too “slippery for good ring seating. When Breaking in any Gasoline motor it is advisable to vary the Engine speed so I went out during the 4 hr run time and manually pushed the throttle up for a few minutes every 20 minutes, I also plugged in several different objects which ran the Governor and lugged the Engine differently.
When I changed the oil there was kind of a paste of metal stuck on the drain plug showing the Magnet did it’s job properly, that metal acts like sand paper inside the Engine and is why it is required to do a first oil change after a few hours run time.
Speaking of operating speed it is set fairly high from the Factory, this is to take some of the shock of appliance startup like Air Conditioners, it also adds to runtime noise and fuel consumption when at a low usage period.
as more and more power is required the Governor takes control and gives the motor more fuel by opening the throttle. The Governor is a simple device run off of the cooling fins on the motor, as the motor lugs down the engine speed slows down which puts less air pressure on the governor control, this in turn opens the throttle more until the preset speed is met.
It is a simple but very effective device and why you CAN lower the Engine idle speed. My last Generator (which is the same model basically) has over double the running time the MFGR has rated the engine life! It still works but is beginning to use oil and with the motor just holding 20 oz it requires getting up in the middle of the night at times to add oil.
I wish that the Motor held a full quart, it would be more convenient AND increase run time between oil changes. Which at 20 hours is more often than about every other brand of Generator on the Market.
Running Synthetic not only extends Engine life and I change at 30-40 hours run time depending on how hard it has run. I advise keeping a Log Book including run time and oil changes, this takes all the guesswork out of oil changes.
putting the log book in a zip lock bag keeps it Weather proof and allows you to keep it at the generator at all times. A couple strips of Duct tape and heavy string allows you to tie the bag on the generator.
I hope my tips help some of you on the fence of buying this brand. This price will only be around for a short time until the stock off 4000’s runs out for the new model 4400 costing about $100. 00 more.
Good Luck and HAPPY CAMPING from: Larry, Tracy and Hannah Beach.
Bought because main generator in my RV needs major engine repair and parts might be slow in coming. The DuroMax DS4000S/3300w generator is very solid. Included tools are of marginal use as you need a lot more leverage than these small wrenches affords.
No biggie, have plenty of tools to handle the few bolts needing loosening or removal. Oil filling is a challenge but included funnel & clear tubing make it easier. Problem is the fill hole is at the very bottom area si if generator is on floor/ground it is challenging for sure.
Then when you remove tube oil WILL flow out until you get plug/dipstick back in place. I’ll confirm you should change the oil several times during the first 20-25hrs operation. The first in order to help clear out any metal bits in engine left over from manufacturing.
It also gets dirty fast. So pay attention to everything the owner’s manual mentions. Baby it and I’m betting you’ll get years of reliable use. Now, the oh so “special” act of changing the oil. PUT GENERATOR ON BENCH THEN IN BLOCKS or you will have no way to drain oil into a dish or whatever.
I’m going to find a bit of tubing to give additional working room. If you can’t put it up higher to access find a low dish to hold about 20oz of used oil. Those are not short comings just gottchas needing attention.
Starting can’t be easier. Started first pull then every pull. Just don’t work to hard or try to pull really forcefully as if it won’t start right away you missed closing the choke, opening fuel valve, turning on the actual engine button on the front.
But an easy start for sure, at least so far. It’s not really heavy at about 110lbs with fuel & oil. Easier to pick up thanks to it’s cage. Consider adding wheels & handle kit. I learned that at my age now 100lbs is MUCH heavier than it used to be.
Did gravity increase? Electrical connections on front are, not great. The standard 20A/120v receptacles are, well, crappy. The vibration of generator will slowly push any plug out. So consider using the L5-30 three prong twist locking receptacle instead.
Plus that is the full 30A connection if plugging your RV in directly. Sound is fair. Not super quiet but not high pitched obnoxious loud either. A bit of distance and a couple boards to strategically baffle & deflect the sound waves will make it effectively quieter.
Were i to buy again with another $100-$150 in my budget, i paid $229+tax, i would look at the E4400 model instead. Still this is a no regret purchase. It’s going to be a backup, gives me about 50% of electricity my 6.
6Kw generator produces. I can yse convection/microwave oven or one rooftop A/C unit plus keep house batteries charged. What more could I ask for?.
I’ve never owned a portable generator before. I was surprised at how well made it is and how well packaged it was. It came with two wrenches, a screwdriver, spark plug wrench and, thankfully, a funnel for filling it with oil.
I also purchased the wheel kit, which I highly recommend as this thing isn’t lightweight (I think it’s 94 pounds). If you’re getting the wheel kit, purchase it at the same time since you’ll want to install the wheels before adding oil and gasoline (it’s easier to install the wheel kit with the generator upside-down).
After I installed the wheels (the instructions are horrible), I filled it with oil, added some gas, and followed the instructions to start it. It started after a few pulls. I tried it again a couple of hours later and it started on the first pull.
To test it I ran the generator and plugged in a vacuum cleaner. Worked great. I have to assume that the next time I have a power outage that my wife and I will at least be able to make a pot of coffee, have some lamps, use a toaster oven and maybe watch television (assuming cable isn’t out too!).
One bit of advice. If you intend to use a generator for whole-house wiring, look for a generator that also has a 240-volt output. This one does not. With 240-volt output, you can have an electrician add a second circuit breaker box in your home and place a receptacle outside for the generator to plug into.
That way you don’t need to run extension cords and your heating system pump and any built-ins, such as refrigerator, will have power. Just don’t overburden the wattage output of your generator by using too many power-hungry appliances at once.
Power whenever and wherever you need it, the Generac GP3300i inverter featuring new, advanced PowerRush technology delivers over 50% more starting capacity for your RV essentials and other motor-driven equipment so you can do more with less.
Quiet inverter power, perfect for outdoor activities in a compact and lightweight solution. True Power technology provides clean, stable power ideal for sensitive electronics, tools and appliances. Easy to carry, compact and lightweight design with built-in handle makes transportation easy.

Parallel-Ready capability allows for connection of two inverter generators for twice the power (Parallel kit sold separately). Generator status lights visual alerts when unit is low on oil, overloaded or ready to use.
Its a great generator, Broke it in and switched oil to synthetic Amsoil specifically designed for small engines. I run exclusively ethanol free fuel in all my small engines and It runs flawlessly. Always starts on first pull no matter if its been a day or a week.
Power output is very consistent, I recently put it through its paces with a 16 amp circular saw, it was definitely noticeable that it bogged down but it did not get any louder then it is without eco throttle.
I don’t believe its one of the quietest generators but keep in mind this has a 149cc engine putting out a max of 3300 watts, so its going to be a bit louder then the smaller generators however it is still not unbearably loud.
I can have a conversation next to it just fine or have it running near by for extended periods without being fatigued by the noise so I think its fair for its output. A couple things I would like it to have a fuel gauge plus a load and hour meter other then that I consider it to be a perfect generator.
To anyone on the fence about one I would say go for it! As long as its well maintained I do recommend spending the extra money on the ethanol free fuel and small engine oil I expect it to be equally reliable as a honda.
I am very pleased with this generator. It was an easy set-up and after changing the oil several times to break it in properly, it runs like a champ! It is quiet and powers my home’s sump pumps, refrigerators and more.
Great piece of mind to have for those days with power loss. Factorypure is a first-class operation. They matched a competitors price and shipped the generator to me in record time. I will return to this store in the future.

I use my Honda generator to run my camper, I bought 2 eu2200i one of them is the companion to service the 30 amp plug. Best purchase ever, I did this purchase for 2 reason, so much easier to carry my generators verses 1 big over weighted generator, and I already new Honda was a good product, working in construction I already see the Hondas get beat up on the job sights and hold up to the most strenuous loads.
I have a 26 foot camper and it held up to all electrical loads like a champ including running my A/C. I also set up my gas tank to pull gas from an external tank since these generator tends to have small tanks in them.
I cut my gas consumption by half with EU load option. Very happy with this product and love the Bluetooth capabilities to keep me on track with the maintenance program. Highly recommend cost saving will be in the gas and don’t forget very quite if you camp at camping sites.

I was surprised to find residue gas and oil in this “never used” unit. Closer examination showed a crack in the plastic face plate. The generator runs fine and the hour meter was on zero when I received it.
I’m guessing the unit was previously sold and the original owner returned it after noticing the damaged face plate. I called Generac thinking I could have a new faceplate shipped. They first tried to tell me the damage occurred with the shipper and I should file a claim with them.
I explained the box was in good shape and I doubted the shipper was at fault. The Generac rep then stated the face plate was integrated into the unit itself and could not simply be replaced, and proceeded to provide some local Generac repair locations where I could take it for warranty evaluation.
Since the crack appears mainly cosmetic, I’m undecided on pursuing the repair further. I guess the lessen learned is that there is a reason it’s being sold as “Open Box”.
The Champion 3500-Watt Dual Fuel Portable Inverter Generator is a quiet and lightweight addition to your RV, your next camping trip, a weekend of tailgating, or as a source of backup power during an emergency.
This super-convenient inverter generator operates off gas or propane straight out of the box. On gasoline, the inverter will produce 3500 starting watts and 3200 running watts; on propane, it produces 3150 starting watts and 2880 running watts.
The Safety Fuel Selector Switch ensures safe and easy operation on either fuel. The inverter comes with a battery for easy, push-button electric Touch Start. The unit comes travel-ready with a standard 30A RV outlet with enough power to start and run a 15, 000 BTU RV air conditioner.
It will also power essential items during an emergency or power outage – lights, sump pump, refrigerator, modem/router, furnace blower, fan, TV/DVD, or computer.
My experience with this inverter is a Very bad one. I bought this from Camping World about 3 years ago because it claimed to start and run a 15k A/C. My Travel Trailer only has a 13. 5k A/C so it should certainly work when we go down to land in southern Ohio and use this generator to keep the A/C running for the kids during the occasional summer weekend.
I had always used traditional generators and never had any issues but with this unit promising the low noise and efficient fuel consumption I decided to get it. I ordered online and CW shipped to my home, the first weekend I took this with us down to the river lot we had nothing but issues, everytime the A/C would try to kick on the inverter just tripped overload and everything had to be shut down and restarted just to have the exact same thing happen.
After 3-4 attempts (20 minutes or more of frustration in heat) of shutting it down, restarting it would turn the A/C on and run for a short time before kicking the inverter back to overload as soon as the A/C would start again.
This became such an issue, (no A/C overnight as generator stayed running all night but in overload so no power to camper and onboard battery dead in morning) I drove 35 minutes into town and bought another “normal” generator at the local hardware store, since my other generators were at home 3 hours away, to get us through the rest of that trip.
The following week after arriving home I called Champion, after several phone calls they finally sent me a part that looked like a big silver heat sink with instructions on how to change out. I followed the instruction and even had an electrician friend come over to help me do it.
It was straight forward enough to swap out. On the next trip to southern Ohio I took a “normal” generator along with this one just in case. Thank Goodness I did because in the end the inverter did the same exact thing after replacing this part as it did before.
I called Champion again and they said I needed to take it to a repair center 2. 5 hours from my house, that’s not happening. This door stop has been now sitting in my garage for the last 3 years collecting dust because I cannot bring myself to sell such a worthless item to anyone and I cannot just bring myself to throwing it away.
I learned a valuable (and costly) lesson with this, DO NOT BUY CHAMPION. I bought another well known brand’s inverter and have been using it with ZERO issues for the last three years. I only am even here writing this review as I am researching current inverters to buy another one and came across and it hit a nerve with me so I had to warn others.
Champion 100110 9200 Watt Generator The Champion 9200 Watt Generator with electric start is an excellent option for power during outages, at remote work sites, or anywhere you need electric power. The Champion rates the 100110 for 11,500 starting watts (max watts) and 9200 running watts.
Runs large appliances including up to a 2-ton central air conditioner, multiple small and large appliances, well pumps, and most essential and convenience circuits. Handles multiple power tools including a compressor and saws.
Up to 10 hours run time on a tank of gas and just 74 dBA of noise—compare to the average vacuum cleaner. Powered by a Champion 459cc OHV Engine. An Intelligauge digital monitor displays voltage, frequency, and operating hours.
Great for Backup Power during an outage or multiple tools on a jobsite. Weekend power at a remote cabin, outdoor events and large gatherings.
A real generator in a market of hobby generators! Enough power and the right features to really get the job done. This one is right at the cusp of portable generators vs home backup generators. By that I mean it’s as big and powerful as they get generally before they’re too big to move around feasibly.
Definitely will need a vehicle as strong as a 1500 v8 truck to haul it around comfortably, though I’m sure tons of people would do it with a small car and trailer anyways and get away with it. Power supply is good and thing is built solid, good size gas tank.
The generator runs quite r than expected for its size – a typical noise level I’d expect for generators half as powerful. Standing right next to it you have to raise your voice to be heard by someone next to you – from about fifteen yards or so away, talking at regular volume is good and the noise from that distance sounds like your neighbor mowing.
Bonded neutral is a plus for mobile use applications. Electric start works really well. Engine runs smooth and even. It’s quite heavy – takes two grown men in great shape to lift into the bed of a truck with an empty gas tank.
I can’t speak to its runtime on a full tank just yet, since I’ve only given it a couple spins so far. Same goes for its durability. This far my only complaint is that the shipping took about half a week longer than expected.
Part of that was the shipping company blaming the local weather for delays when we had only sunny days for a week… Anyways. Great generator, seems worth the money. Definitely not a toy for camping or RV nonsense – it’s made for real power.
The most powerful portable generator on the market is an exceptional value. Powerful enough to start many 5-ton air conditioning units and can provide power for up to 16 circuits. Electric start for easy start up.
Electronic Governor for fast response to changing electrical loads. Generac’s OHVI engine was designed specifically for generators. It outruns competitive generator engines with an engine life that is three to four times longer and has a significantly longer period between scheduled maintenance checkups.
Automatic idle control reduces fuel usage. 50-amp high power outlet, twistlock plug and GFCI protected duplex outlets give more usage options. Wheel Kit and Heavy Duty Lifting Eye 13” all-terrain tires for easy portability on rough ground.
(07-28-2022) Please understand that Factory Pure provided a great price and equally great service experience in my purchase of a 17. 5KW portable Generac generator. However, I have not so far had such an experience with the product I purchased.
Purchased on 07-21-2022. Delivered on 07-27-2022. Assembly instructions provided extremely small images and quite honestly weak technical writing. Nonetheless assembly was not an issue. After completing assembly, filling with the synthetic oil suggested to proper level, fueling generator, and connecting battery, following start up instructions to a tee, it would not start.
When pressing starter button, all I get is a short “buzzing” noise. Checked and re-checked oil, fuel, start-up instructions attempting to start machine with same negative result. I thought perhaps the battery may have not been fully charged so this was checked with a multi-meter which showed a full charge (12.
73 volts DC). After checking and re-checking, I contacted Generac’s customer service number where I spoke to a very nice young lady (Rita) who went through the standard trouble shooting procedures without success.
She then suggested I contact one of their local distributor/service centers and provided me the names, addresses, and phone numbers on several. This morning I spoke to 2 different service centers in my local area who were unable to offer any ideas as to what is causing my issue, but suggested I bring the unit into their respective shops.
Upon advising them that this unit weights 400 lbs. , they offered to come to my home. Neither can do this until at least next week. I shouldn’t need the generator (purchased as a home emergency backup), but it should actually work right out of the box without warranty work.
Not impressed with the Generac product at this point thus the extremely low rating. If experience improves, I will submit a follow up review. Again, my experience with Factory Pure from purchase has been excellent.
They contact me and kept me informed regarding shipping and delivery from the moment of purchase.
I needed to upgrade my 8500kw portable with something to run at least a portion of my geothermal HVAC system, well pumps, pool equipment and essential home circuits. I looked into the whole house systems with automatic transfer box at an installation cost around $18k.
I did not want the generator mounted on the my 2nd floor to meet coastal code requirements. I also wanted the ability to manually choose what circuits I wanted to activate. The Generac 5735 checked all the boxes and exceeded all of my requirements.
I can power up to two of my three geothermal AC units, pool pump, 2 refrigerators, wifi, TV and basic lighting. More than what I need during an emergency. Its portable and designed very well. I installed a 240v 50 amp receptacle and a manual transfer box.
My total cost was $5500. Great quality generator and peace of mind.
This unit comes double stacked on two pallets which are joined, then the generator is bolted to the top pallet. I found that if one pulls it about halfway off the pallet and places a doubled blanket under the end of the generator as it comes off pallet it will easily roll on the frame right up on its end.
[make sure you roll up on the end away from the electrical plugs] That done one can put the wheel kit and the front foot assembly on with out interference. When finished, it will then roll right over onto its wheels and the foot.
(I am age 77, and did this by myself with ease!) Since it is shipped with no fluids in it, there is no reason to use braun rather than brains! A minor cause for pause is the nut and bolt bag that comes with the hardware which is loose, and unmarked in the bag.
That said it really works out OK, since the excellent assembly instructions are pretty clear as to what goes where. It is a heavy unit, but it is absolutely perfectly balanced to roll around. I was shocked at the ease it can be wheeled around.
Mine came together in about an hour, and that includes adding oil which is supplied. Be advised it comes with 2 quarts of SAE 30, which is in contravention to the stickers on the generator. The owners manual, however, does call for SAE 30, so no the shipping department didn’t send it with the wrong oil.
Running this thing at 60 percent load is 10,500 watts, any kind of intelligent circuit management is going to allow for all the power one could want shy of a permanent stand-by unit. The beauty of the 17500 is that it can be used for many things on and off-site, and as a real bonus when it’s not being engaged, it can be secured in a safe place and out of the weather.
My unit was delivered in perfect condition. Is it expensive? Who knows – its well beyond the top of its class – to what would one compare it? Finally one of it’s greatest attributes; made/assembled in the USA!.

I have been looking for a small, lightweight, and quiet generator to use for car (truck) and motorcycle camping. I have no idea how many different generators I have looked at, and even considered a solar/battery set-up.
We quickly eliminated the solar as we camp quite a bit in the NC mountains, and it’s often very shady, so I figured the solar would have a tough time recharging a battery, rendering it less than dependable.
Then the generator search began. Don’t know how many I listened to (2 stroke, 4 stroke, you name it). There were a couple that were “almost” as quiet as the Honda, but not quite. Then it occurred to me, all the others compared themselves to the Honda.
So I said why not spend the $ once and get the one that all the others judge themselves by! What better advertisement for the Honda. Unless you have lived under a rock for 20 years, everyone knows Honda reliability.
Why risk having to buy 3 of the “cheaper generators” over an 8-10 year period when you can buy one Honda and simply take care of it. It is lighter, quieter, and more dependable, so that’s where my money was spent.
And to top it off, I was able to get a brand new, zero hours, 2019 from a reputable dealer, and paid $330 less than the cost of a 2021 model ($669 vs $899). Would have paid the $899 price anyway had they not had this one.
We look forward to years of use from our little generator.
To begin, do your research before you buy get one big enough the first time. I bought this to take car/motorcycle camping. In that capacity it will do all I could ever ask of it. No big snarling beast of a generator needed.
Looked for weeks and compared every genset in this size range. Most say they are “nearly as quiet as”, of “comparable to” the Honda. Well, it seems to me that the Honda is the one that all others judge themselves by.
So why take a chance and have to buy 1-2 others to get the same life as the Honda? So skip the rest, and just spend a bit more the first time and get the best. The unit is lighter than all in the size range that I saw, +/- 1db of sound either way (and most times quieter), sips fuel, and then there is the legendary Honda dependability.
But you have to do your part too and maintain it properly. Hands down the best generator in this size range PERIOD!.
I just took a look at the original invoice for my Honda. I got it in February of 2014. I have used it as a battery-maintenance generator since then, two or three times a week for a minimum of 6 (and usually 8) hours a day usually twice a week, all year round.
I made a “weather enclosure” for it using a furniture roller and a large plastic storage box, upside down with ventilating holes and a trapdoor for exhaust. I had four different small generators before that and each had a major fail point.
The Honda DOES NOT. It’ll run for 8 hours on the power-saver setting on one gas filling. And twice during/after storms it ran lights, my TV and internet AND my refrigerator. One note, capitalized: MAKE SURE YOU FILL THE OIL PROPERLY AND DO NOT LET IT RUN LOW.
The low-oil shutoff works really well but is usually forgotten in trouble shooting. Also, change the oil depending on hours of use OR annually. But it’s the one. Don’t bother with anything else.

worked all of about 8 hours now won’t run. I have a duromax sidekick 2000 watt generator which is almost identical, but a better generator for sure. This generator is not as quiet and is much weaker, than the claimed voltage This generator appears to be a cheap copy and is a massive failure, it will not run even 1000 watt appliances.
It worked on my 350 well pump a few times, then stopped. I tried it on a dehumidifier and it ran for an hour then died. It is not as good as my 4 year old duromax side kick!.
Unit was delivered in the original box with no obvious damage to the box or the unit. When removing the unit from the box , I noted rattle coming from a loose part inside the unit. I also observed the DC breaker was depressed past the normal “engaged” position and was inoperable (see pic).
When I opened the unit to add the oil, I was able to retrieve 2 small parts (see pic). After I finished prep, I attempted to start with no success. The good news, is the eBay return policy and process worked well albeit I have to empty all the fluids (oil & gas) and lug this 50+ lb unit to the Post Office to send it back.
