20 Best Gel For Curly Girl Method (2022 Updated)

I have tried many hair gels in the past and they always made my hair feel like it did in the 80’s when I was in middle school and my hair would be so crunchy, and gels tend to really dry out my hair.

When I saw this Zotos All About Curls High Definition Gel, I was extremely skeptical and was ready to immediately wash this out of my hair if I needed to. Omg, this gel is AWESOME!! Not only does it give my curly hair definition, it added shine, and I didn’t get that hard, crunchy feel! My curls literally POP with this, it’s my miracle in a bottle.

I clean my hair with the All About Curls No-Lather cleanser which gives my hair the moisture it craves without stripping out the oils my hair needs to stay moisturized, then I use their daily conditioner.

With my hair dripping wet, I use the It’s A 10 Coily leave-in conditioner, wrap my hair in a towel for 5 minutes to let it absorb, and then I put in the High Definition Gel. First, I flip my head down, apply a quarter-sized amount to the undersides of my hair, raking it through and scrunch.

Then, I flip my hair back and add another quarter-sized amount to the outside of my hair, rake it through and scrunch. I let it air dry and then I shake my hair out to get rid of the cast. This leaves me with gorgeous, defined, shiny, healthy-looking curls! The patients at the clinic where I work noticed the difference and have given me compliments since I started using this.

They ask me what I use and I recommend to them the entire line of the All About Curls products to try if their hair is curly and they need to get it healthy again without breaking the bank. I buy all my products at Sally’s Beauty.

My only complaint is that they are often out of stock with these products, so I have to go and get them two to three weeks before I run out to be sure my hair stays healthy and looks great. Please, Zotos, don’t EVER stop making these products! You have literally saved my hair!.

I have 3a curls. I used this product in combination with the low lather shampoo, cream conditioner, taming cream, and soft definition gel. I shampooed, combed the conditioner through my hair, then rinsed.

The shampoo/conditioner scents were a little strong and I didn’t love them, but my hair felt soft and clean afterwards, so that’s the most important. Coated my wet curls with the cream then the gel. Scrunched and air dried.

At first I felt like my hair was going to be “crunchy” but after about 3 hours of air drying it softed up well. Stayed pretty frizz-free throughout the day. I feel like these are priced well and I would use them again.

I’ve been looking for something ever since Pantene changed years ago and have finally found it! I used this last and it does dry a bit stiff but that’s ok because once you scrunch when it’s dried to break the cast it leaves beautiful soft touchable curls! I bought this product at a beauty supply store and never used it. I decided to use it on my natural 3c hair because I wanted to use something that won’t discolor my gray/white hair. This product is absolutely amazing! I pair it with a leave in conditioner, and my curls moisturized with definition.

I refresh with water and I’m ready. I love that my hair is soft to the touch without flaking or leaving a sticky residue.

I mistakenly picked this one up. I went specifically for the Curly Creme (the thick one). When I got home and opened the jar, I was like “Aww man, I didn’t want this one!!!) Well I decided to use it anyway and MY GOD, when I put it in my damp hair and the immediate detangle and slick and CURLS.

I fell in love. The dried results were amazing. It eliminated my two step Curly Creme and Eco gel routine which gave me amazing results. But this GELLO, though!!! It gives me the same identical results but in one step.

NEVER stop making this product. NEVER.

I received my order so quickly, the Rep who took my order was so pleasant. I love this product, and so does my hair. I have tried to switch off and use otherproducts, but thet do not url my hair as nice.

I was really hoping to like this product as it seemed explicitly aimed at curly hair. However, after using it for a week I was really underwhelmmed. Sure, it’s better than most products out there but not by much.

The product is very sticky and doesn’t seem to have much of a hold. Instead, the gooeyness just dries on your hair leaving it dry and frizzy. I get they are trying a more natural product but that doesn’t change that its ineffective.

I’ve used other natural products that use beeswax, clay, and moisturizing oils and butters that both leave my hair feeling tamed AND moisturized. I will not be buying this again.

I’ve been using the Curl Activating Cream for over 5 years. The first formula, the one in the tube, was incredibly smooth and moisturizing. Now the jar formula separates terribly and feels much more watery, limiting its moisturizing qualities.

It used to be my go-to styling product, but the watery-ness also affects how much product sticks to my hair. It’s been moved to a backup product. I’ve contacted them about the change, but I’ve unfortunately received no response to my concerns.

I wish they would look at the reviews to reflect about the changes perception of their product, but alas, it may be a change where they are unwilling to accept criticism.

The Curl Activating Cream was my go to styling product for so many years on my 2a/2b curls. It was perfect! Apply to clean hair, scrunch, and air dry for perfect curls. No need for anything else to get great hold and soft curls, with an easy second day refresh.

Not anymore! Like many have said, the new formula has little white chunks that do not melt or disappear. My husband, who never notices anything about my hair, said something. But worst of all, the hold disappears by the end of the day and no amount of refresh helps.

I’m still struggling to find something as good. Please change it back!.

I have tried a million products for my curls trying to find one that does as much as possible for as low a price point as possible – I need look no further! For context, I have a variety of curl types on my head (2C at the back, 3B at the front, and everything in between), medium thickness, low-porosity/virgin hair which is cut very short and this stuff works beautifully for me.

It has enough hold to define my curls and eliminate frizz but it’s lightweight enough to not pull my ringlets into waves, and enough moisture to look after them for a long time – I used to wash my hair every other day because it would get frizzy, now I can go over a week sometimes and it still looks good! It does need to be applied to almost-dripping-wet hair, and it does form a cast which I know some people don’t like because of the crunchy feeling but I promise you that all you gotta do is scrunch it out when it’s dry and then it’ll look great.

I usually use my fingers to apply it evenly all over my head when my hair is still wet, then scrunch and squish the hair from the tip towards the root to further distribute the product and bring back the curls.

I then dry my hair with a diffuser until it is mostly dry, then I let it air dry the rest of the way. Only when it is COMPLETELY DRY do I scrunch out the cast – I’m then left with soft, bouncy and defined curls! It took a bit of trial and error to get the amount of product required right – if you don’t use enough you’ll get frizz but if you use too much it can leave you looking a bit greasy – but it’s so affordable it’s worth the trial! Oh also, the scent is amazing and does linger for a little while which is so nice – if you don’t like coconut though, this may not be for you.

I’d highly recommend giving this a go though if you’re styling curls on a budget.

A multi-tasking spray with all natural ingredients, that can be used on both wet and dry hair “game changer” It has a fine mist that dries quickly without feeling greasy or oily. The sweet coconut and almond scent is heavenly.

My hair looks shiny, frizz-free, and feels soft and silky. When my hair is really long, it weighs down my curls, making them less defined. This spray revitalized and defined my curls. Ingredients: Coconut, Almond Oil, Vitamin E, Avocado, Vitamins A, B, C E and Fatty Acids.

Cruelty free, sulfate, paraben, and phthalate free.

I love this spray. It’s a spray for your hair. It wakes up tired sagging curls. I have used this on both dry and damp hair. Both work. I honestly don’t know the retail cost of this product because I have a subscription from Ipsy and that’s how I got it.

If there was anything that I would do to improve this, I would change the pump. It comes out more like a stream rather than a spray I would have also loved a larger bottle. I have used this in the past and went through it rather quickly.

The other nice thing about this is the lovely tropical scent. I would definitely recommend this!.

Really good quality gel hair product. I have very curly and frizzy hair, and I get quarterly+ keratin treatments to keep the curls and frizz in check. This keeps my curls defined, but not crunchy. The SMELL IS AMAZING, like all Oribe’s products.

The container is slighting difficult to use just because it is a bigger tub, so you have to use 2 hands (as opposed to one hand with the pop-top—which is what the bottle was a few years ago), however, since you dip your ha FD int the tub, it is easier to control how much you need to use and you can get every last bit of product (no more upside down contraptions squeeze all the product out!).

Great for curly- or frizzy-haired people. Smell is divine, albeit very feminine. Will be using for life!.

I really wanted to love this. I have the ORIBE detangling/primer spray and love it. Smells great, and works wonders. I was hoping the same for this curl gelee. The smell is delicious and on point! Also, even though it is pricey, you get a huge amount for the price.

The jar is great. And I am sure it works for some curlies. So I give it 3-stars for that. However, it did not work for my hair. The first time I thought I didn’t use enough. my curls were not defined, very frizzy, and the second day was even worse.

So, the second time, I used more and worked through my hair more to make sure it was all covered. It was just as frizzy, no curl definition. Next day, it was super dry and tumbleweed like. I feel like it took away the moisture from my hair.

I have 3b/c curls. Long and tends to be frizzy – dry/color damaged. But I have other curl products that still work great with my hair and define and moisturize the curls. Wish thiswas great but it wasn’t for my hair.

I received Verb Curl forming gel as a free sample from PINCHme. I naturally have straight hair but recently I pursued my dream of curly hair by getting a perm. My hair was shoulder length but after my perm it shrunk to a little past my chin… that’s how curly the curls are….

They are TIGHT! Had a really hard time adjusting and figuring out what products to use for my hair until I tried this curl foaming gel. Since my hair is already super curly now I didn’t really need the curl forming part but I definitely needed the definition and control that this child provided.

I tried it on the humidest of all humid days and my hair remained piece-y and under control. My hair was not crunchy, I used it on wet hair, and not stiff, I brushed my wet hair before applying the gel.

I love this foaming gel and no longer regret getting the perm!.

I was super excited to try this. I have Type A2 curly, fine hair that is shoulder length. Recently I’ve been saving time in the mornings and embracing my hair air-dried, however I have been trying to find a product that makes my hair not frizzy and has hold, but isn’t too strong.

This Verb Curl Foaming Gel is the best!! I will admit, the first time I tried it I used way too much (probably 2 pumps, as I usually do with my mousse). The next couple of times I used it, through trial and error, I found that just a tiny amount goes a long way.

I barely need to press the pump to get a small enough out, which is plenty for my hair. Once it’s worked through and my hair is dry, it looks wonderful!! Not crunchy at all, but it holds well. I will absolutely be purchasing more as this is now my go-to, daily use hair gel!.

I liked but not loved using the Verb Curl Foaming Gel. It was very easy to use – the pump made it so easy to get out of the container, but the squirts were small and not as foamy as I expected so I used a lot of pumps for each application.

The scent is very strong – of oranges and grapefruit when coming out but wasn’t too strong once applied. I loved that the foaming gel didn’t make my hands sticky in the way that other gels do. It also kept my hair soft and touchable, without a crunchy gel feel.

I felt like my hair was more wavy than coily with using, and had a lightweight feel. I still had some frizz to it, but less than not using the product. I think it actually looked better after sleeping on it! All in all, it was a good product but not a must have for my normally wavy/curly hair.

Does what it says ! Smoothes ,define and curls and coils your hair!! Just enough crunchy to hold ,acceptable amount of residue, no flakiness, tweaked with a light leave in conditioner/ moisturizer and better on damp hair ! BUT would not use on someone that has naturally oily scalp and hair as well as very fine textures, Hair will shrink a bit too much for styling ! But works for me!!!.

This is ok for your hair. I didn’t really like that it was so expensive to buy. It’s not worth getting and I use it only if I ran out of my normal products I use. I hate wasting money so I still use it occasionally.

I won’t be buying again. It doesn’t really add and stay moisturized with my hair. After awhile, my hair feel so dry and doesn’t keep my curls lasting at all.

I am always looking for affordable hair care products for my naturally curly color treated hair. My curls coil and without product my hair looks like a used brillo pad. I wanted a single product that tamed the frizz but left my curls in all their coiled glory.

You know, something that worked without have to mix up a combination of gels, oil, and cream to get control of the situation. I also wanted something that was affordable, since I tend to need more product than most of the recommendations on the package.

This cream fits the bill on all counts. I also find I don’t have to use “extra” to get good results.

This has the texture of a cream more than a gel, but still has quite a bit of hold for a thinner product. I have 3B ish hair that is very easily weighed down when wet, and this did a great job of giving enough hold without being too heavy.

I also liked that I could use a lot of it (to get the benefits of a creamier texture) without getting weighed down. I am looking forward to trying the rest of the line, as this was such a nice experience! I think it would work well for a lot of different hair textures, as you can easily layer it or use less depending on your needs.

The only small drawback for me was that the scent is very perfumey- it smells nice, but I generally prefer my hair products on the less smelly side.

I really don’t understand the bad reviews from other people on this product. Maybe people with thicker hair it doesn’t work for some thing. I started using this when I got it and a Curl sample pack from Sephora, and it was honestly the only thing from that pack that I re-purchased.

I have fine, wavy to sometimes curly hair, 2b to 2 c I guess. This product helps keep the frizz away, but since it’s more of a cream but holds like a gel, it also helps defined my curls as well, leaving my hair more curly.

It’s the perfect gel cream hybrid. I love it!.

My son has different texture curls in the front of his head compared to the back, so it’s not always easy to find products that work for him as a whole. On top of that, I’m always looking for products that enhance a natural look – no hard, crunchy, or wet looks wanted here! Not to mention, we try to avoid the worst of chemicals that are unhealthy for the hair and body.

This line delivers on so many fronts! It provides moisture without heavy build up. We just spritz with water in the morning and rake through a little bit of this with our fingers. The makers know curly hair!.

Boy mom of a 2y (26m) old. Caucasian hair. We have had this about 2 months and have barely scratched the surface since we really only need a pea sized amount for his hair. He doesn’t have any reactions (itchiness, scratching his head, flakes, etc.

) and it makes his curls really pop. We are in the Galveston/Houston area so I would say it doesn’t really stand up to the humidity and by the end of the day his hair has “relaxed. ” Usually for dry hair I will spray some Honest Detangler, comb it, then use a dab of this to muss his hair.

So I have 6 mixed children and all of their hair textures are different, it’s hard trying to find moisturizer for their hair types like don’t leave them crunchy or stiff. I use this in my 9 month olds curls right after the bath and when his hair dry’s he has the best bouncy, soft curls.

It can also be used in dry hair which is great. I do wish the smell was comparable to other brands, but other than that I love it.
