19 Best Garbage Can To Keep Animals Out (2023 Updated)

Just received our iTouchless trash can a couple of days ago and I’m loving it. Since moving into our small 2-bedroom apartment, we’ve been using a small trash can which must be emptied nearly every other day due to it’s size.

We originally placed the (old) trash can under the sink in a cabinet, but that entails opening the cabinet door every time to dispose of trash/waste, and many times my hands were full of whatever was being tossed out.

Another ‘bad’ thing was, NO LID! Odors we’re a constant nuisance. iTouchless can was packaged well and no damages were observed. Once I got it out of the shipping box I had it put together in about ten (10) minutes.

Set-up was so easy. Placed the can in the kitchen where it hardly took up any room adjacent the sink. Now I have a trash can with a lid that opens automatically which is especially convenient when tossing two handfuls of vegetable peelings, and NO odors! I ordered the waste can with wheels which makes it even more convenient.

When cleaning the kitchen floor it’s just a matter of easily rolling the can out of the way, which wouldn’t be as simple if we had a model sans wheels. Then one would be required to physically pick up the can to move.

Kitchen chores are so much easier now and I would highly recommend this product. Thanks iTouchless and thank you Walmart for carrying the product.

I am very happy with my purchase of two of these sensor trash receptacles. I have one for waste and one for recycling, I love that the lid closes quietly and that they have an odor protection with the packet.

These work great. There was no set up. The battery compartment was easy to find once I slid the odor packet holder out of the way. They fit perfectly below the end of my island. I really hope they last a long time.

These are the best outdoor cans I’ve ever had. I’ve tried many different sizes and styles and these are top! They are large, sturdy and the lid locks which is perfect for parties so flies don’t get inside.

I use contractor garbage bags for all my outdoor cans and those fit perfectly in these. What I like most, is when removing the bag, it does not tear from the edges inside the can as all my previous outdoor cans have.

Wli bought 4 to use for a graduation party, and then scattered around my property aftwrwards. Works perfectly!.

I bought this trash can for my kitchen because it looks nice and blends in well with my white cabinets. I also like that it can be sprayed down with bleach and hosed down occasionally. With my family working from home or being homeschooled, we needed a larger trash can.

Even though it’s 30 gallon, I still take the garbage out daily. I also dump the other garbage into this can before taking the garbage out.

Very simple to assemble. No tools required. Snap the bottom into the side. Snap the other side on. Snap on the back. Snap on the front. Snap on the lid. Literally took me 3 minutes to assemble this product.

Looks great. It’s sturdy. If you place the bag just right, you cannot see the bag with the big lid shut. If some bag does show, you can tuck it under the lip. Great buy!!.

I’ve had this product for a number of years now and I have to say it is probably the best darn trash bin I’ve ever owned. It’s black and round and has a matching lid. Many of my neighbours have stopped and complimented on what a fine looking trash bin it is.

Even the local trash collection technicians seem to like it and have often not sworn at me when I bring it to the curb late. Awesome!.

The lid is very tight. At first you may think it doesn’t fit. After only a couple of times the lid is perfect and yet still fits very tight. A tight lid is want you want and need.

This is what I needed to comply with our local municipalities garbage collection standards for a trash can. The color was perfect as well, I could write my address clearly on both the can and lid for easy identification.

Purchased this on Amazon. The swing top touches one side as it swings, causing a grinding noise and when it stops, it stay open about an inch or so. It sure doesn’t close the way the picture looks. Can is too cheap to return, so looking for another one.

Disappointed in Umbra design. I have been a fan until now. Was it Amazon storage that twisted the top, not sure? But it’s annoying.

This is a pretty nice trash can for being so simple and no frills what so ever. It fits nicely where ever i use it at in my home with its sleek design. It is a 10 gallon capacity can that is black in color.

It does have a swing top lid that seems to stick just a tiny bit every time. Nothing serious at all. Other then that the lid is perfectly fine. It doe’s not conceal all the garbage odor of course depending on what i being thrown away.

Over all its pretty durable and seems to b e great quality. I would recommend this can.

I got this with our kids bathroom in mind. It’s just a very basic, swinging top garbage can. Holds a standard 13 gallon bag and holds much more than the small decorative cans. It is plastic but the plastic is fairly thick, not cheap quality.

The top helps to hold the bag into place. Easy taking off the lid and changing the bag. It’s just what we wanted, a simple, no frills garbage can. Just be mindful of what you use it for, as the swinging top doesn’t keep odors contained.

I bought this less than a year ago and within a month, Something actually chewed a hole in the lid. There is no way to fasten the lid to the bin. I wanted to get some bungee cords to stop animals from getting into it, but I would have to make my own holes.

The lid itself doesn’t even fasten properly and it blew away a few times. The can is very flimsy, it would constantly topple over from even a breeze because the wheels make it unbalanced. The wheels themselves are terrible and don’t glide smoothly.

I never thought I would be leaving a review for a garbage can but this is the absolute worst one I’ve ever owned. The lid on this blew away yet again so I guess it’s time for a new can but I would NEVER purchase this again.

We have purchased a few of these in the past 4 years. They have modified the design in the last year such that the handle is integrated as one piece with the main bin, before the handle would pop off easily.

Great design, easy to roll out, easy to clean with a garden hose, sturdy yet flexible material which doesn’t crack like those beige garbage cans, lid fits securely, although I wish they would sell replacement lids as I’ve lost one in the past.

I think the garbage guy took it away with the trash! All in all, good value for the money.

Have this can. Lid is flimsy compared to other plastic garbage can lids. Lid ended up getting destroyed. Went to purchase a new lid and was told at checkout that they only come with the cans. You absolutely CANNOT purchase a lid by itself at Canadian Tire.

This is insanity. You should be able to buy a garbage can lid. Utterly ridiculous policy.

I bought 2 of these because my sister and I (pack rats) wanted to get our stuff in order and we have alot of recyclable material, especially cardboard and paper. These cans hold alot of stuff and with cardboard they are still light to carry.

If you recycle all-paper in the can, it may be quite heavy to carry, so keep that in mind where you place them to where they go recycling day. Or carry your paper in paper bags that the recycling guys, or you, can lift out with no problem.

We love the fact the cans are lightweight, and once done with our major recycling, I think I’ll put mine in the garage for my paper and my sister can put hers anywhere she likes. I mean that nicely! The kids coming with them was a plus (some places sell the kids separately).

Replaced a small recycling bin that couldnt take full bags of plastic. This one works fine. Its a little light, not heavy duty. But then again very inexpensive…. good value

These cans are sturdy, weather-resistant, and a great value. I have six of them, plus a rolltng cart. They are a great help to me when I am working on large recycling project, and stack nicely when all six are not needed.

Our patio furniture set is white, so this companion trash can blends in without standing out as a “trash can. ” It’s discrete and sits to the side of the patio furniture unobtrusively. The lid locks too.

Easy assembly and very sturdy. This is the second can we’ve ordered. We have a brown one that we use for recycling in the garage. It holds a ton! We’ve been very pleased.

I didn’t even notice a smell when using them at first (and I have a super sensitive nose) I only bothered to get a whiff because I noticed the bottle said lemon scented. But yes, sure enough giving a sniff does give me a very pleasant lemon smell! And if I actually try to taste it, it has a slight lemon taste too.

But even though they say mini, they’re actually average size to most gel capsules but still easy to swallow quickly. I was expecting them to be much smaller but they are really the same size as most supplemental capsules I take.

So if you actually do have trouble swallowing larger pills I wouldn’t recommend. However if you are like me with no real issues in that area, I would absolutely recommend these. Also unlike a lot of fish oils I’ve tried, it doesn’t feel bad in my stomach or make me burp.

These Fish Oil Minis are a better option to some of the larger capsule alternatives. Now, keep in mind, I think calling these “Minis” is an exceptionally deceiving term. These capsules are definitely not small but they are certainly smaller than fish oil supplements I have had in the past.

If you can imagine a dayquil gel capsule, these are slightly larger than those. But I digress; these are smaller and pack more into them so that is quite a posititive attribute. Additionally, I have yet to experience the fishy aftertaste that I have experienced with virtually every fish oil supplement I’ve tried, which is a nice bonus.

For those reviews/reviewers that said things like “it doesn’t snap together tightly” or “there are gaps between the panels when assembled” or “Difficult to assemble”, you have to use the rubber mallet that they show on the tool list.

If you don’t have one, borrow one or buy a cheap one for $6 – it’s worth it and you’ll find lots of other uses for it. You need a rubber mallet to drive the various molded-in locking tabs together – you can’t push them together, even if you’re strong and weigh 285 pounds (I am, I do and I tried).

But if you use a rubber mallet as shown on the assembly tool list, things go together well, extremely securely, and tightly, with no gaps. When assembling the front and back, which slide down on locks molded into the sides and have tabs that lock into slots in the base, once they are pounded home so the top of them is even with the sides, turn the cube over and use the mallet on the base at the locations where the locking tabs from the front and back come through the base, to finish snapping that joint together – that will eliminate any small gap you might have between the bottom of the panels and the base.

The reason you have to do this is that the base deflects ever-so-slightly from the force of the molded locking tabs engaging into the base, and this can keep the front/back panel locks from fully engaging in the base.

But a good whack from the rubber mallet and everything snaps home, just like it’s supposed to. If you have small gaps, especially at the joint between the base and the front and back panels, you can very likely fix it even now, months after assembly, by turning the box upside down and striking the base with a rubber mallet where the front and back panel locking tabs come through the base.

I concur with the advice to lay the box on its side when attaching the top hinges to the side panels – it’s kinda unwieldy otherwise. Don’t use a drill driver on the screws – just a hand screwdriver, #2 Phillips head.

They can strip very easily, so easy does it. If you have a socket set, it’s easier to attach the strut ball studs with a socket, as they are a little bit recessed so an open end wrench or an adjustable can’t really get a good hold.

You can do it without a socket – just takes longer. Assembly time was 15 minutes to read the instructions and assemble the box, with the aid of that rubber mallet. Assembly time for the top, hinges, etc.

was 40 minutes, for a total time of just under an hour. Unlike some reviewers, I found the instructions easy to understand, but I have 50 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering and Design so that probably helped.

My five stars are because of the quality/value equation. There are higher quality storage boxes out there, for sure, but they cost four times as much. This is an excellent product for the money.

Purchased the 6 gallon Behrens galvanized metal can with lid to store cat food in as ants had discovered it when in the original bag. Perfect size to hold the 16 pound bags of cat food. And so far no ants as the lid fits securely! I bought in May 2022 so have used it for about 2 months.

I have seen reviews complaining about the lid being too tightly fitting however as a 60 year old woman I have had no issues. The lid removes easiest by grasping the lip of the lid on one side with one hand and pressing down on the pail handle holder on the same side of the can with my other hand.

You cannot just grab the lid handle in the middle and yank it off. i am very happy with the purchase and in fact am ordering two more cans to store pet food in.

Extremely disappointed. We were having problems with raccoons in the barn chewing their way into the wooden pet food container. We ordered this as it was supposed to have a locking lid. As it turns out, the way it locks is by pulling the handle up.

All the raccoons had to do was knock the container over, and the lid would unlock when the handle went down. A total waste of money, and we didn’t bother sending it back because shipping was $11. 95 and then it was going to cost about the same to ship it back, and we were not going to be reimbursed for shipping cost.

Won’t be shopping here again.

Best container ever for storing bird seed. The container closes tightly and keeps out the little mice that can sometimes invade your storage area. No more chewing through plastic containers. Handle is very helpful to carry the can out to the feeder as well.

Wide enough opening to hold bird seed scoops. Highly recommended!.

Alright I didn’t expect to actually care about a trash bin, but this thing is perfect. It’s large but not too large. It’s perfect for my restroom since there are a lot of people who use it and we don’t like taking the trash out often.

nice barrel but the dimensions at the top are very different from the bottom. I would have preferred less taper, that is, same diameter at the top and bottom. the bottom diameter is 12 inches. diameter at top is 15.

Why in the world would anyone pay 100 for a trash can Youd be a great candidate for having your head examined for spending that kind of money to throw your garbage in. Yet in our current society we spend money on all kinds of things that seem overpriced, but it doesnt keep companies from marketing them to us.

In the world of trash cans, the newest must have features are lids that dont slam shut, bags that actually fit, ingenious design to hold the bag in place, hands free operation, lids that secure and long lasting toughness.

Rubbermaid has made a fine trash can that ticks many of those boxes, but falls short on some key areas. In comparison I purchased a simplehuman trash can several months ago on Amazon simplehuman SemiRound Step Trash Can, Mocha Plastic, 50 L 13 Gal and it outperforms the Rubbermaid for half the cost.

The first picture attached shows the bar that butts up against the baseboard to keep it from moving as you step on the trash can pedal. A novel approach to protecting a painted wall from getting destroyed if the bar was placed near the top backside behind the lid.

Rubbermaid wins this round. It is very tall and slim which doesnt intrude where floor space may be at a premium. Round 2 Tie13 gallon trash bags are not created equal for many reasons, and even though this is a 13 gallon trash can, the 13 gallon trash bags I used glad do not fit snugly or very secure see next two attached picture Rubbermaid droped the ball on this feature and it appears to have been an after thought instead of a functional and efficient design.

Round 3 simplehumanOwning pets that like to knock over your trash can while your away is a big nuisance. Simplehuman has designed a very stylish slide lock to keep the lid in place if knocked over. Rubbermaid didnt.

Round 4 simplehumanLids that lower slowly and dont crash with a thud into the can is an excellent feature especially if you dont want to wake the whole house in the middle of the night. Rubbermaids lid freefalls until it comes within an inch of being closed and slows just enough to prevent that dreaded thud.

Simplehumans trash can gracefully lowers its lid at a controlled speed until it comes to a complete and silent close. Having the lid lower at a slower speed allows you to throw any additional trash into the can before the lid shuts and thusly having to press down on the pedal to raise it again.

Round 5 simplehumanBoth trash cans are made from durable and washable resin that prevents staining and easy cleaning. Round 6 tiePriced at 100 and 50 respectively the clear choice is savings. Round 7 simplehumanAnd the winner by TKO is simplehuman.

If Rubbermaid can comeback with a better design and competative price, Id like to see a rematch.

This is a review of the black 50 litre version of the Rubbermaid Slim Jim waste bin. These bins also come in red, grey, beige, yellow and white. Surprisingly it doesnt come in the kind of colours that indicate recycling such as green or blue, but I guess the red one might serve the purpose of helping you segregate your waste if you get more than one coloured bin.

It doesnt come supplied with any stickers that would you segregate your waste either. Aside from the product logo on top there isnt anywhere that would readily let you put a sticker on it because most of the outer material has a rough textured finish.

The Slim Jim is made of black resin and says Rubbermaid Commercial Products on top so may look a little out of place in a domestic kitchen. It is practical and utilitarian you wouldnt describe itas beautiful or graceful, a claim that some kitchen bins aspire to.

This 50 litre version of the bin is quite tall, being 70cm high. It is 45cm wide and 29. 5cm deep, so make sure you have the space for it. Everything about this bin speaks of sturdy materials, design and construction.

It tapers towards the bottom to help you empty it. However the tapered shape might stop you wedging big pieces of waste material all the way to the bottom when you are putting your waste into it. To stop it toppling over there is a strong metal frame that sticks out from the front and back so it takes a real effort to knock it over.

The opening mechanism feels like its not going to break, made of a similar kind of sturdy steel as the base. When you open the lid you reveal two foldable pieces of metal at the top that help you hold the rim of your bin bag in place so it doesnt drop to the bottom of the bin when you start to fill it.

The lid is soft close, which is nice. It appears to use the same kind of soft close device that you can buy on Amazon to make your kitchen cupboards close silently. The shape of the lid means that this wouldnt be an appropriate bin to put outside in the rain because it would go under the edges of the lid and collect inside the bin.

Finally value for money. Currently at well over 100 this bin costs much more than other bins on Amazon of a similar size. It does appear to be of commercial quality so you wont regret buying it but you can probably find something that costs half the price and does the same basic job.

I got the tall slim jim and it fits great in my enclosed back porch where I kept my old bin. This fits the space better and because the whole lid lifts it is so much easier to use with the foot pedal operation.

The lid closes so quietly I dont have to be quiet at night using it as my other clanged and would wake the grandson. It has 2 metal arms inside that lift really easy to place a black bag in and push them back down to hold it in place.

The foot pedal is nice and big so even the big footed wouldnt find a problem using it. The lid comes up pretty fast but lowers slow and quiet. The width is a lovely size and the depth is quite small, looking from above it is a rectangle shape.

It is so easy to wipe clean, no ridges where food etc can get trapped and fester. Made from top quality plastic, almost rubber but not quite. The design is great, the mechanism is great, even the size and shape is great, the only niggle is the price, do I think it is worth this amount, no I dont.

But then if this lasts for years and years and still looks good and works well and you never have to buy another bin, then it might be worth it.

Excellent trash can for a great price! I love the fact that this trash can comes with a dolly kit, making it super simple to wheel the trash from one side of the room to the other, saving the step of walking back and forth for small clean ups or disposals.

The lid also locks into place really nicely, keeping contents inside contained.

Excellent quality trash can and dolly kit. Lasts with sheer strength with all we go thepugh in a steakhouse. We use quite a few and never have any issues. Low cost high durabilty amd you cant beat the price.

Works as described, fits 33 gallon trash bags, and the casters were easy to install. Need to replace every can with this one, makes disposal easy and its accessible anywhere in the kitchen when needed because of the casters.

This is a commercial grade trash bin and perfect under cabinet. A bit pricey, but worth for its purpose .

This is a well designed bin. Its bigger than the average household bin. Ive found by placing it against the side of the fridge freezer it fits well without being a prominent part of the kitchen. Inside the bin there are two metal levels that clip into place once your bin bag has been put in, the levels clip down and keep the bag secure.

There is definitely more room to put your waste in and its easy to lift out. Unlike some bins whereby you have squashed so much into the bin that its difficult to get the bag out at the end. Not with this bin.

Slides out easily every time because youre not having to push waste into your bin so much. The silent lid feature is very good. I will say that you have to be a little gentle with the pedal, so that it doesnt bang the lid against the wall.

I was a little rough at first, but it would be the same with any bin so it would be unfair to mark it down because of my heavy footingHowever, no matter how good a bin is. I just couldnt justify that 121 is a reasonable price for a bin.

If it has a recycling section in it then I could potentially quantify it. but its off putting.

Ive ben an Umbra design fan for many years so I was pleased to see this after my go to SimpleHuman can more than doubled in price overnight. It looks great and is a good size. But be aware that it is very thin plastic and flimsy.

I hope they will last a couple of years at least in our vacation rentals.

I bought two, since the city I live in has complex waste sorting regulations. Both are light grey with metallic details. I keep them out in the open where they are readily seen. The design is elegantly unobtrusive, transforming them into just another feature of the room.

The swing top makes them practical–no bending to lift the lid or fumbling to activate a foot pedal.

I am overjoyed to have found this item after searching everywhere for a trash can that suited the aesthetic I had in mind. Prior to moving states, I’d had a similar style (tall, slender, swing lid) which didn’t make the move.

Until I found the Umbra, I was just missing the old one. This one is an upgrade and well worth the price. It’s lightweight but I can tell it will hold up.

These are the BEST EVER. Just got a new one to replace one ( Blue) we have had for 40 years. Tough made as Rubbermaid states and fits nicely in between our storage cabinets outside. We use them for Bird Seed bag storage, Grilling items ( charcoals, fluids, wood chips and utensils ) everything stays dry & air tight.

We bought this Roughneck trashcan to replace one in which we stored dog food. When the top of the previous can wore out from twice-daily use for nearly 10 years, I searched on-line for a replacement.

Mills Fleet Farm had exactly what I wanted at a fair price with quick delivery. We have three hunting dogs and buy food in large bags. The Roughneck rectangular 30 gallon container holds a significant amount of food that is easily accessed even when quantities are low.

The base is exceptionally sturdy and a good size/depth for other uses. We now store garden tools in our old, topless Roughneck.

I have been looking for something heavy to haul & store my chicken feed in when I pick it up from our local farmer. Regular garbage cans are too big & heavy & the handles seem to break after a couple of trips.

These cans are the perfect size, the shape allows them to store neatly in my barn, & the handles don’t seem to budge when they are full of feed. I also like that they lids are super sturdy & don’t crack or break when the weather gets cold.

I have 12 of these cans so aside from my feed, they are a perfect size to hold 2 large bags of dog or cat food, & of course our recycling! I plan to buy more of these in the future!!! I’m a huge Rubbermaid fan so I Highly recommend these containers !.
