Clear coat spray paint for metal is a paint designed to provide a protective coating on metal surfaces. It is typically applied over a primer or base coat of paint, and provides a durable, protective finish that can resist scratching, chipping, and UV rays.
I use this product mostly for final finishes on ceramics, but have also used it on metal, wood, gold leaf, and some plastics. It dries quickly, gives an even glossy coat, brings out color, and is very durable.
I have used it on lacquered, painted, and glazed surfaces. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Most surfaces I use it on do not get a lot of handling, so I do not recommend it for anything that will get heavy use.
Also, this product is not compatible with some acrylic-based sprays and may change surface of some plastics. I also have found that it will not adhere to some plastics used in modernist furniture. Best to test before use.
Use a light spray to avoid drips. Repeat thin coats give better results than thick ones.
I signed up with a home depot account just so I can write how awful this product is. There is no way to lay down a decent finish. No matter what, you will end up with stripes. Possibly because it dries so quickly that it cant actually sink the next pass onto the overlap from the previous.
I’ve wasted money on 3 cans, I’ll probably have to sand it all off and buy another product so money and much time wasted. I should have checked the US home depot site for reviews. many there have said the same thing.
We purchased this as a final cut on a wood fish tank stand after using the 2x gloss black spray paint, which we loved. This spray is like throwing powder at whatever you are painting. If you spray from the recommended distance, it looks like it’s old dusty furniture and you can’t fix it because it drys instantly.
If you get closer, the paint drips automatically and does not go on evenly, so you have some shiny spots and matte spots. Because it dries immediately there is no hope to fix it. We now have to try and get the lacquer off and paint again with the 2x gloss black product again.
We are very upset and wish we knew about this before because we would not have used it and will never use it again for anything.
Krylon ColorMaxx spray paint provides brilliant, on-trend colors in a variety of sheens. This product has smooth application with added rust protection. The easy push big button tip provides the ability to spray at any angle for fast coverage to get your project done.
Premium coverage and superior color with excellent adhesion and durability, Indoor outdoor use with rust protection. Big button spray tip with spray any way capabilities. Dries in 10 minutes or less.
For use on wood, metal, wicker, plastic, paper mache, glass, plaster ceramic, fabric and paper. WARNING This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
The color is nice. That is it. I was using it on an old metal cabinet that had been thoroughly cleaned and dried. The paint went on and seemed to repel as I sprayed and even though I was going lightly the first time around it still dripped horribly.
I didnt know what to do so I was dabbing at these drips hoping next pass would be different. It was getting worse. I called my husband in to help and he couldn’t believe how bad the product was behaving.
Now there are some dried lumps I have to scrape off and I ran out of the paint so I have to invest more money into this junk to finish my project. While that was drying I painted the inside of the shelf with a White for contrast by Rustoleum and it came out perfect.
I was very pleased with this product. The color was very opaque bright, which worked well with the color palette I wanted. It was very easy to use. I wish there were more nozzle options for this brand in a larger color selection.
Either way, it performs decent for what you pay. I will continue using this brand in the future for my artistic needs :D.
Okay so first off I am a Foreman for asplundh tree expert company. If anybody has worked for this company they know that some of their trucks are very old and are complete rust buckets. and if you have any pride in your work you want your truck to look good but trying to find an orange paint that matched up was nearly impossible until we came across this.
it is almost a near-identical match to the orange we need. Reading the reviews I found it funny that so many people say that this paint runs terribly and is transparent and not the color it’s supposed to be.
I don’t think there is any such thing as a paint that runs terribly there is a such thing as a person who doesn’t know how to spray paint and apply it in the correct way. When used correctly in several very light coats and this again could be up to 6 + very light coats it doesn’t run a bit just like any spray paint jobs of any brand paint that I’ve ever done.
The end result is a very rich deep color orange that matches the Asplundh orange trucks perfectly! So before you go complaining about a product and saying it’s garbage try and figure out how to actually apply in the correct way.

ONLY NEEDED THIS TO GLOSS BLACK OUT MY CHROME GRILL FRONT EMBLEM AND NOTHING ELSE, NO NEED TO DO ANY SANDING AT ALL!!! JUST SPRAY ON FIRST COAT NOT TOOO HEAVY JUST ENOUGH TO MAKE ALL BLACK AND THEN I WAITED ABOUT 25-30 MIIUTES AND I KNEW BY LOOKING AT IT THAT IT WAS ALREADY NICE AND GLOSSY AND NO STREAKS OR WHAT HAVE YOU, SO I JUST SPRAYED OVER SECOND COAT BUT WITH BETTER PRESICION CAUSE I KNEW I WOULD NOT NEED A THIRD COAT SO I MADE SURE IT WAS SPRAYED PERFECT AND BAM!!! PERFECTION!!! IT LOOKED AMAZING!!! LIKE A PRO JOB OR LIKE IT JUST CAME LIKE THAT FROM THE FACTORY!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF YOU JUST WANT TO GLOSS BLACK OUT SOME CHROME ON YOUR CAR LIKE A GRILL OR EMBLEM!!! MY BLUE AUDI WITH THAT BLACKED OUT AUDI QUATRO EMBLEM NOW LOOKS MEAN WITH THIOSE BLACK BBS RS CLASSICS!!!.
I used only 2x coverage automotive paint. red black aluminum and clear. They suggest 48 hour cure time before clear coat. I waited almost 72 hours with parts drying in 65-70 degree room. Almost everything blistered as soon as I layed the first tack coat with the clear.
Spent weeks stripping everything down to raw metal. Now I get to start all over. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME.
Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel Spray Paints provide a durable protective coating for all your indoor and outdoor projects. The rust-preventative formula offers excellent resistance to abrasion, fading, chipping and dulling.

What can’t Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear do? “Clearly,” it makes painted surfaces shine brighter than most other spray protectants on the market. I know this to be true as I have tried all of them, I believe.
Crystal Clear makes them able to withstand outside weather elements especially well. There is an art and skill to spray painting, and it wasn’t until recently I even bothered reading the can label. The can tells you everything to get great results! That being said, a guy can still make mistakes (spray unevenly, get the can too close to the surface and cause a run, or even miss a spot and run out of paint).
Crystal Clear makes your mistakes look intentional, I have discovered. The literal shiny glare makes mistakes look less noticeable as the light reflects the covered object in ever-changing patterns depending on the angle of reflection and your eyes.
Sorry for the explanation, but I teach science. Two words of caution: ALWAYS paint in a well-ventilated area, preferably outside. Also, purchase a painter’s mask so you do not inhale the enamel mist in the air.
The masks are surprisingly inexpensive and really work well. After all, you get one set of lungs, so keep them healthy. Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear is the best product for clear-coating, especially if the object, 1.
will possibly get wet, and 2. had or has rust you do not want to spread.
This is a horrible product, not because of the textured content but because of the nozzles. I purchased two cans and both are being returned due to manufacturers defects stemming from the spray nozzle breaking on one can and jamming on the other.
The nozzle on one can literally fractured down the middle causing paint and material to flow laterally. The other can jammed after about a minute or two of spraying. The coating itself was very nice, but you MUST follow the directions and take your time layering coats.
I did about 4 or 5 very light coats with about 20 min in between and the results are exceptional. I would have given this four stars if the cans hadn’t given out on me, mid project. If you are interested in trying this product out, I would highly suggest doubling at a minimum or tripling your estimated usage.
This is not normal paint and depending on your desired texture/ opacity it will require more coats.
Bought 2 cans of this quite a bit ago for around $5 and just got to use it. A few years ago i spray painted a stainless steel 13 gallon waste bin and it had started to look worn. So i used this which was darker than what was on there.
wow it went on so easy and the finish was so smooth and i only used a little more than half a can. I had no blockages, the nozzle made the perfect spray pattern, the coverage was amazing and the hide was great even though i was doing red on red.
The pressure in the can was such i was spraying from about 15 inches so not to apply too much paint. for some reason they want $17 now. which is a joke. buy it somewhere else for about $5 to $6. Spray cans can be a bit hit and miss this can i used was brilliant so i believe i may have got lucky.
Get fast, high-quality color with Rust-Oleum Industrial Choice 1600 System Enamel Spray. This multi-purpose paint provides up to twice the coverage of competitive brands. Finish more area in less time with fewer cans.
I have used this many times to paint refrigerators and other appliances. Like any other paint, 95% of the paint job is the preparation work. First, I clean the appliance with a cleaner/degreaser. My favorite is Purple Power, but I see that TSC carries several excellent brands.
It is so important to get the oil and grease off. Then sand with a fine wet or dry sand paper. I use Scotch Brite pads on refrigerators that have a textured surface so that the bottom of the grooves get sanded.
Wash again and let it completely dry. If you have compressed air, use it to blow water out of the nooks and crannies. Mask off anything you don’t want painted. First do a very light coat. Overlap each stroke by about 50%.
Push the button and release it not on the surface to be painted. That way you get a very even coat. Let it dry for about 5 minutes, then you can do a thicker coat that will give a good finish. Let dry for a few days.
This is exactly how I paint, and people were surprised that the paint job was not factory, but done in my driveway. I have rentals, and I have painted many refrigerators that worked great but could use a nice coat of paint.
Don’t skip any steps. Each step in preparation is just as important as the paint. There are several good videos available on line about how to get great results with spray cans.
This spray is extremely effective, and a single spray converted my discolored sink to a brilliant white. The substance dries very quickly, and retains its sheen. However,I suggest you wear rubber gloves and a mask when using it because the spray gives off a fine shower of paint when used.
Spray Max 2K Semi Gloss Clear Coat Aerosol. A 2K component clear coat with a satin finish that is easy to apply, flows smooth an dries to a long lasting finish. Activate, Shake, Spray. Great for motorcycles, automotive accessories, and hobbies.
This two part semi matte (satin) clear coat is 100% professional grade. Has a pot life of 48 hours so make sure you have everything prepped and ready to use the entire can once its mixed. The spray tip that is used on this can is one of the best I have EVER used.
Material sprays out highly atomized, large fan, and has a steady pressure from the first spray, all the way down to the last drop. If you cant lay down precessional grade clear with this product, its you, not the clear.
I used this on my motorcycle gas tank to protect the paint from gasoline melting the paint, after it cured i dripped gas on the clear coat and let it sit there and it did not melt or eat through the clear coat!.
It sprays heavy so buy an extra can. It goes on very smooth and dries hard. Prep sand with 220 grit paper before spraying, awesome product.
I recently painted my road bike (carbon frame) to matte black. I used Rustoleum matte black spray paint and tried to top off with a Rustoleum matte clear coat (not a 2K clear coat). The bike looked great but the finish was very durable – the paint started rubbing off where I would take it on/off my bike rack.
After researching different products, I came across this 2K matte clear coat by SprayMax and figured it was worth a try. I sanded and repainted the bike frame with the same Rustoleum matte black, but top coated with the SparyMax.
Results are GREAT! When fully cured, it dries to a hard finish. I’ve had the bike on/off my bike rack several times now and there are no signs of wear! One thing to note – because this is a matte finish, it will have “rough” hand feel.
This was something I expected, but I wanted the matte look. If you want a smooth hand feel – SprayMax has other 2K clears for that.
For the price of the product, I expected better. It was good mind you, but as far as I can tell thus far, its really not worth the extra cost over Rustoleum Clearcoat Spray for general use. Maybe the cost is justified by the durability of the product, time will tell.
But, I personally wouldnt put out the extra money again for it.
It’s quite unique. Being 2 parts in one. Spray pattern and pressure were good. It worked and seems to be durable. I used the matte finish over flat black paint on a Fender Strat. Put on several coats until I used it all.
Pressure pretty much stayed the same until it was gone. I put so many coats on that I was hoping it ran out. When I say coats I mean no more than a minute or 2. Marathongman.
Use this Krylon Artist Spray when you want to add a glossy coat to your crafts and art projects. It provides a permanent protective finish that dries in minutes. The 11 oz can is designed not to yellow and resists moisture to protect your hard work.
To use, spray in sweeping motion to apply a light layer to your project. Let it dry for at least 10 minutes before applying a second coat. Use the acrylic spray to add luster to wood, metal, plastic, wicker, glass, plaster, ceramic, craft foam, fabric and paper crafts.
Great stuff, apply in light coats, allow to dry a bit, and repeat. Leaves a nice, strong and shiny surface. Covers water-based acrylic craft paint very well. Used on a project made of painted cardboard.
This is a great product to seal your canvas or wood art after painting with Michaels acrylic paints. It also works to seal painted rocks. Protect your wonderful artwork with Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear.
I’m sure this is good stuff. It just didn’t work for my polymer clay project. It does have a strong oder similar to spray paint, so you really eo need to use it in a well ventilated area. I gave 4 stars for now, just until I can try it on other types of projects.
The Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze Spray provides a permanent protective coating on a variety of surfaces. The bright and high-gloss finish looks like glass and is provides the same protection as up to three coats of other clear coatings.
It prevents smudging, fingertips and will help avoid fading on your works. The Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze Spray can be used on a wide variety of surfaces such as wood, metal, wicker, plastic, glass, ceramics, paper, and clays without the need for firing.
The Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze Spray is touch dry in around 15 minutes and dry to handle after 4 hours. It is recommended to test the glaze on a small, inconspicuous area of your work first.
Ensure the surface to be coated is free from dust and grease, and that it is dry. Spray in an even motion from approximately 30cm away. Wear protective eyewear, mask and gloves when using in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid using in humid conditions. Shake can well before use.
I believe this is a solvent based spray, it contains ketone(s) (I’m not a chemist). So always, as with anything, test this product on small sample before coating a precious object or artwork. Krylon makes a variety of spray based top coats, some are meant for specific things like coating drawings or photographs–be mindful that these specifications are useful to you.
If you use this particular product, do it outdoors or in a properly ventilated (spray booth or the likes) room. Always wear a respirator. Let the object you sprayed off-gas in ventilation or outside for at least an hour.
It is likely to smell for up to 24hrs–and this stuff smells like poison. That sweet smell is the ketone, and yes it’s terrible for you. All of this said, when used properly, this product will produce a near bullet proof finish that protects against scratching and supposedly will not yellow.
I have objects that have been coated for a few years and seem to be holding true to that claim. If you are looking for a more conservation friendly “varnish” use Golden spray varnish or the likes. This has no indication that is it engineered to be conservation friendly.
Be careful. Be thorough. Make cool stuff. #sweepstakes.
The Krylon brand has been around a long time. Over the years they have diversified their paint from can only paints to spray paint, spray primer, as well as a multitude of extra ordinary spray products.
You can choose from matte, gloss, mirror finish, frosted glass look, clear finishes that act as a protector for the painted product and this, my favorite UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating. I used this on my galvanized container for the front porch.
There is not a lot of sun where it is placed. Someone may have a front door that gets sun most of the day, this spray will give added protection to a wreath hanging on their front door.
Krylon has changed the push button design. And it doesn’t work well at all. I used to love this spray. I have used it for years. I have bought 8 cans over the last few months and NONE of them sprayed for longer than 5 seconds.
I cleaned the push button according to krylons instructions. Does it work? Sometimes but you still only get 5 second spray out of it before you have to clean again and hope it works another 5 seconds at the most.
I am a bit tired of having to drop the push button in acetone and hope for the best. Krylon needs to go back to the original push button on top…. you know…the design that works…. Until then I will use something else.
I hate it because I really love this stuff and have used it for almost 20 years. Why they changed to a faulty design is beyond me. But when people post a review about a faulty can, it is not just one can.
It is every can I purchase. So I am definitely done with it until Krylon fixes the push button design. This review is not on Walmart, it is on the Krylon company.
The rust-preventative formula offers excellent resistance to abrasion, fading, chipping and dulling. Paint dries to the touch in 2-4 hours and applies easily; covering up to 15 square feet. Specially designed comfort spray tip reduces finger fatigue and sprays from any angle – even upside down for hard to reach areas.
I I bought four cans of krylon textured paint desert sand when a Walmart site tmto order. I’ve always had excellent service from Walmart never had a problem before but I have found out that Walmart contracts out to other companies a lot well this spray paint come from a Ron’s Auto.
The paint from Walmart as I ordered it was $9. 97 a can when this paint came it came one can of time and only one can came thank goodness, because Ron’s Auto was charging $26. 97 for one can of spray paint but I did call Walmart in Norton yeah man’s name Eric and he was very very well trained and seemed to be very knowledgeable about the paint I was trying to explain to him about but he got a refund for me, and I’ll turned out well but if you order from Walmart online please check and see where your products are coming from and who you’re buying them from just because it says Walmart don’t mean that what’s going on or they haven’t contracted that particular product that you want out with some other company.
The day I talked to Mr Eric in Norton Virginia after Walmart I also bought four cans of the krylon textured paint and it was 9. 97 a can just please be careful.
Rust-Oleum Auto Enamel Spray provides a long-lasting colour finish with superior gloss retention. It’s durable long lasting finish resists nicks and scratches. Superior colour and gloss retention. Excellent UV and weather resistance.
I actually had a can left over that I used on my fire pit cover and it’s the 1st time what I painted it with actually held up through the elements (winter included) and is still fine. This time I bought a 6 pack to paint the bottom supports of my deck (wood) which I’m re-doing (I used the left over can to start the job and wanted it uniform).
Looks great, shipped fast and ZORO had the best price. Would definitely recommend.
This is just like if you go to a body shop supply and have them mix you a can of paint. Not the off the shelf stuff. This gets stringy like car paint does if you touch it half dried. Has a nice shine too.
Krylon ColorMaxx spray paint provides brilliant, on-trend colors in a variety of sheens. This product has smooth application with added rust protection. The easy push big button tip provides the ability to spray at any angle for fast coverage to get your project done.
Premium coverage and superior color with excellent adhesion and durability, Indoor/outdoor use with rust protection. Big button spray tip with spray any way capabilities. Dries in 10 minutes or less.
For use on wood, metal, wicker, plastic, paper mache, glass, plaster/ceramic, fabric and paper.
We have grates over several of our outdoor screens for protection. They are originals and through the years have become very rusty and their appearance was nasty. Because of an unusual size, it would be difficult to replace.
But, lo and behold the paint manager at our store recommended Krylon COLORmaxx and not only did it work, it made the grates look brand new. So much better than trying to locate the correct size grates for our home, plus we were pleased with our savings.
Spray and go; the product was so easy to apply, even for an amateur like me.
I love Krylon. Clear gloss spray. I paint detailed rocks for decorative gardens. Grandkids names, designs etc… After spending hours on detailing these lovely works of art. I want them to handle the weather.
Krylon. Is the Best. After the paint is dry. Krylon seals and protects. I also use it to seal my pained chairs for my porch after decoration have been hand painted. I have been using Krylon products since my days as an Art Student in the 2970’s.
Brand new can. Shaked loads as instructed. Only trying to paint white over white, and yet achieving 100% coverage was nearly impossible at 40cm (as specified on can). almost all the paint ended up blowing away onto nearby objects (no wind), and that which reached the object was so irregular in its pressure that it resulted in runs, drips, and visible chunks of paint.
Absolute rubbish. Never buying again, especially considering that I know its price, like the price of everything else at Canadian Tire, has skyrocketed in the last few years.
Satin Clear General Purpose Spray Paint delivers twice the coverage compared to other Rust-Oleum general purpose paints. Double cover technology allows projects to be completed quickly and paint and primer formula provides ultimate hiding power and durability.
Premium general purpose paint features an any-angle spray system to spray in any direction, even upside down for hard to reach areas.
I make a mistake. Despite my self-admonishment not to ever buy any Rustoleum paint, I did it. I was in a hurry and because this store is close to where I live I bought the “flat” plaint. This paint is supposed to be flat.
It is not. The advantage of flat paint should be that it blends easily, doesn’t leave streaks, and doesn’t run, unless you over do it. This paint doesn’t meet any of the expectations of black flat paint.
It leaves areas of shiny finish, in blotches, it cakes up into clumps. The other side of the story is the typical Rostoleum nozzle. After a few sprays it clogs up. What a piece of junk for an exorbitant price.
Sadly this type of quality is what you can expect from Rustoleum. So, now I’m off to the dollar store to buy the no-brand name flat black paint.

Great product. Used on the glass of a frame to tone down extreme reflection and glare. Use common sense when spraying. I sprayed it a foot or two away from the glass with a sweeping motion, did this a couple of times and it is perfect, I can now see the photo through the glass from any angle with very minimal reflection.
Like with any spray paint type product, if you spray too close, or too long, you will end up with foggy uneven clouds. I highly recommend this product and would even use it on a painting to tone down the sheen.
I read a good review on this to use in a fairy garden. You use Outdoor Mod-Podge on your little house, fairy, or whatever. Then you spray it with this to keep everything from fading in the sun. Be sure to get matte rather than glossy.
You may have trouble finding it. Krylon must be having production or shipping issues. I have not tried it yet, so this is secondhand knowledge. The guy specializes in fairy gardens. Krylon also makes a UV spray for artificial flowers.
I believe it says floral on it. Sometimes it is with the spray paint. Other stores have it with the flowers. I use it on the water resistant flowers that Michael’s sells for cemetery decoration.
Triple Thick Glaze is a protective coating that gives a glass-like finish. It provides a protective topcoat that applies thicker than other clear coatings. Great for wood, metal, wicker, plastic, glass, plaster and paper.
As much as I love and use TRIPLE THICK GLAZE for my craft products, I am very disappointed that my decision to buy the 3 pack was a total waste of money! I only got to use one full can. I got to the next two can and they would not spray just when i needed them! I changed the nozzle, shook the 2 FULL cans but for some reason, they don’t spray.
I am very disappointed!!! This 3 pack is not a wise choice, I guess unless you plan to use them right away. I just bought these a couple of months ago and I stored them as I usually do!!! I am not sure why this happened but I will not buy this product again.
My employees were getting a ton of red light tickets using our company car for deliveries. I knew that a high gloss finish makes a license plate unreadable because the Flash will overexpose on a high glossy Plate.
I figured this product would put the glossiest finish on the plates. Since I cleaned and sprayed the plates we haven’t received one ticket in weeks as opposed to 4 a week. great product for what we needed.
Shipping was superfast and it was the lowest price anywhere.
Rust-Oleum stops rust protective enamel spray is the no. 1 rust-preventive paint available, provides lasting protection and beauty in a wide variety of colors and finishes. It features any-angle technology that allows to spray hard-to reach areas, even upside down and a comfort tip with a wider finger pad to reduce fatigue caused by continuous spraying.
DO NOT BUY! Read first. this is a good product but the packaging is junk. I constantly have issues with either a clogged tip or not enough air in the can to deliver the product. I have many cans that still have at least half of the product in it.
there’s nothing I can do with it. waste of money. you are supposed to invert the can, depress the tip to clear it. this never works because it never runs clean. only buy if you intend to use the product all at one time.
or by the quart and use a paint brush to apply it. you would think by now with technology they would improve the spray can tip in some way.
Seal the deal on important projects with rust-oleum stops rust protective crystal clear enamel. This transparent finish provides extra protection against rust, corrosion, tarnishing and chipping. Use it alone or as a sealer on top of another coating.
Rust-Oleum matte spray paint provides long-lasting protection and beauty. Use it for your hobbies or repair projects. This clear enamel spray can be used indoors or outdoors and dries to the touch in 30 minutes.
Rust-Oleum’s Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover 2x delivers twice the coverage as other competitive brands! The advanced Double Cover Technology provides the best formula for ultimate hiding power, which allows projects to be completed faster and easier.
Apply to wood, wicker, metal, plaster or unglazed ceramic. Fast-dry formula resists chipping and fading. Ultimate coverage. Smooth, durable finish. Any-angle spray with comfort spray tip.
Ive spray painted countless items(sm to lrg) in my lifetime & this was the worst experience I’ve ever had!! I always use Rustoleum. General I use Satin finish but have used gloss & several of their speciality paints (metallic, hammered, etc).
Have always had Great results with painters touch 2X Ultra Cover primer & paint in one. I prep material to be painted per instructions. Used “flat black” before & hoped the “Matte” finish paint would be about the same.
My 2 old nesting tables on my lanai needed a refresh & liked the color of the “Ultra Matte”-” Deep Teal”(great price too) for the table tops & used Slate matte color for the legs. First application on legs went fine with No issues & covered with 2 coat’s with the less than :30min 2nd coat time(didn’t want to apply 2nd & have to wait the 48hrs time).
Have always done my 2nd coats this way. When spraying Teal on tops noticed a strange flaky looking material in finish in certain areas?!? Paint was well shaken & again with 2nd coat! Assume this material has something to do w/ultra matte paint? This was a sporadic issue but looked terrible & super rough finish! Also had a problem w/lrg clumps of paint coming out of nozzle which really messed up the finish as well! Waited 48 hrs & lightly sanded.
Got rid of most of the flake like material but was not a great fix for botched areas from the clumping problem! These tables have several plants on them so they will cover some of the messed up areas.
But there are still some major problems with visable areas. I had hoped clear coat would straighten out some of the defects, WRONG!! This paint did the same thing & even worst (than colored paint)! Tables look terrible!! Should of just left them be after the 1st color coat! Really bummed what should of been a 1 afternoon job has now dragged out to over 2 wks!! Had to order more teal (2 day ship time)since 1 can defective & stopped spraying with 3/4 can still full.
Then 3 day wait for clear paint to arrive. Wait 48hrs for original paint to cure, 2 times(96 hrs total due to defective can) Then weather didn’t cooperate for a couple of days! This isn’t my 1st Rodeo!! I always read can before painting(make sure process hasn’t changed), Prep items to be painted properly, make sure weather/temps are correct! This Ultra Matte paint is lousy! I would NEVER RECOMMEND!! So disappointed/frustrated with the Whole Experience!! I’m very OCD about the appearance of my Home Decor items.
Guess I’ll just have to get over looking at the Botched paint on these tables that I look at most of the day! Good Luck with that, lol! Side note: bought Hammered Black at same time & painted a metal wall hanging(before I clear coated tables).
Covered in 1 coat(was surprised) & it looks Fantastic! Seems to confirm my thoughts about Matte Paint having a problem!!.
I used this to refresh the 10 ceiling air registers in our Airbnb rather than pay $13 each for new ones. It took 2 thin coats to cover thoroughly as described in the instructions. This way it dries faster as well.
The paint came out consistently and didn’t jam up. Hopefully our wall paint looks as good as these registers do!.
I purchased the clear to cover an old deck bench that my daughter wanted refinished. The only “problem” I encountered was that I ran out of the clear enamel before I could apply a 3rd and 4th coat, which is necessary for wood that is exposed to occasional sun.
That lasted for a year, and I went back again this spring to sand it lightly and then coat again. The clear is non-yellowing, and I have tried it on my deck rails to replace spar varnish that becomes darker with every coat and cracks badly.
Any heavy exposure to sun is rough on any clear enamel or finish, but the UV protection of Rustoleum makes it a good clear coat for top coating a deck waterproofer-stain. No coating is perfect, but this is the best clear top coat I have found.
I am purchasing a case of clear today from ACE to cover an old deck table that I power-washed and coated with a deck waterproofer-stain. Yearly maintenance is a necessity with any deck work. I let mine get away from me.
Rust-Oleum Custom Automotive Spray Paint is a premium automotive lacquer designed to create an on-trend, durable finish. The corrosion resistant formula provides long lasting protection, durability and is ideal for use on automotive accent projects like striping, wheels and interiors.
