A cat scratching post is a piece of furniture that cats can use to file their nails. It is typically made of wood or another sturdy material, and it has a rough surface that helps file the nails. Many scratching posts also have a built-in toy or some other type of reward to encourage cats to use them.

and so does her servant (me). Three sides so when one eventually wears out (and that takes a while) her ladyship has more to look forward to. She has 4 scratching posts around the house, but rarely uses the others; she loves this one and uses it all the time.
The only less-than-positive thing about it is that shredded cardboard falls on the floor, but it vacuums easily, and at least with cardboard bits I’m not concerned that she might swallow a bit. My other cat, now sadly departed, enjoyed the inside surfaces.
When he passed, I purchased this brand new scratcher so that Mischief has a fresh one. It’s a big winner!.
I bought this scratcher for my two cats about five months ago. In the house, there are four cardboard scratchers and two cat trees with sisal rope. This vertical scratcher is BY FAR their favorite and is used by each of them daily.
My girl lays next to it and uses it as a shoulder rest/pillow because she is that fond of it. My boy sometimes approaches it from the wrong angle and has knocked it over while aggressively scratching, but only a couple times.
No harm, no foul! 🙂 It is wearing really well considering all the use that it gets and is definitely an item that I will purchase again when it finally wears out.
We have bought this scratcher several times over the years. First time purchasing this item from Chewy. Our cats love it. We just recently adopted a kitten and it took over the older petfusion scratcher.
So we had to get another one for our 18 year old cat. These petfusion scratchers hold up really well. It allows the cat to stretch and scratch. Our kitten uses it also as a hiding spot to surprise us passing by.
Give your feline friend a surface to scratch with this 30 inch Carpeted Cat Scratching Post Furniture. It has a carpeted post and base to help sharpen your cat’s claws and keep them from scratching your furniture, rugs and window dressings.
The pet scratching post provides hours of activity and engagement to promote an active lifestyle in your kitten or cat. It is an ideal size for smaller living spaces and can easily be placed out of the way.
The carpeted scratching post cover material is created using recycled remnants, allowing it to mesh with your green lifestyle. Use it as a learning tool to help your cat understand which items in your house are acceptable to scratch on.
The 30 inch carpeted cat scratching post furniture is a good option for single or multiple feline households. You will be amazed and delighted at the sight of your cat getting so much enjoyment from it.
They used lightweight plywood for the base so it’s not heavy enough to stand up when the cat scratches on it. Falls over every time. Also, the carpet fibers are coming out like crazy after just one week of use.
I have had several scratchers throughout my cats life, and this is by far the cheapest made, low quality scratcher I’ve purchased.
As others have noted, this is a nice TALL carpeted post, and seems to be the only one available these days. My two cats rejected the Smart Cat Ultimate sisal post I bought them a few months ago, so I got this one to replace their 12-year-old (!) worn-smooth carpeted post (which was made by North American Pets, as is the one on this page).
But as others have also noted, that flat cap on the top really ruins the post. The poor cats reach up high to dig their claws into the top, but when they encounter the plastic cap, they drop back down without using the post.
One cat has been tentatively scratching at the middle and the base of the post but then will move away and do a full-length scratch on a rug. So I’ve had to buy a runner rug for them to use, since they don’t like either of their two new posts.
Except for the cap, though, this post is well made, so I recommend it to people with small cats or cats who don’t seem to need a full-out stretch when they scratch. If the company makes cap-less versions, I hope Walmart will stock them.
(By the way: I needed to have the post delivered to me, and Walmart sent it very quickly and in sturdy packaging. Great service! I’m going to order from them rather than Amazon when possible. ).
I’m taking care of a family cat for the next five months, I wasn’t sure whether the cat preferred carpet or sisal scratching posts, so I got this one because it was roughly half-and-half. In reality, since the middle 60% is sisal, and that’s the area most normal-sized cats will be scratching, this is basically a sisal scratching post.
It’s a strong post, the sisal rope seems high quality but does have a little bit of fraying (I’ve had it for two weeks now), it’s still wound tightly around the post but some wear is to be expected as my roughly 10lb.
cat uses it multiple times daily and with frequently with a lot of force. The carpeted area, while not the plushest rug, is certainly not the lowest quality either and my cat sometimes sleeps partly on it.
Unless you know in advance your cat won’t use sisal, it’s a good purchase, however I don’t know how long the sisal will last, with my current cat I guess it would last about 12-16 months, but that’s just a weak guesstimate as this is my first cat and my first scratching post.
Another caution, if you plan on buying a cat tree with sisal legs this product might be a redundant purchase, however my cat has both and prefers the sisal on this scratching post. I’ve found that this product can also serve as part of an exercise toy, about twice per day I twirl a shoe lace around it and the cat enjoys scrambling up the post trying to swat at and catch the lace.
Cats need a scratching post that will allow them to get a full stretch. The 32 (81cm) post height allows the cat to stretch vertically while using the post. The finest materials and workmanship guarantee the scratching post will remain attractive and useful for years.
Jan 9 2018 I bought my first SmartCat The Ultimate 32-in Sisal Cat Scratching post. It has been the best scratching post I’ve ever owned. Used by as many as four cats at a time for almost 3 1/2 years (2 Persians with huge claws and 2 DLH with regular claws).
It is now a supplemental horizontal post. May 11 2021 I ordered a new post of same brand and style from a different supplier and it has already been a disappointment though I am repairing some of the problems.
The post was mfg in LOT#2020W49H DATED 02/12/2020. The “sleeves” that receive the screws that the customer installs were missing so the base could not be fastened to the post. Thankfully I had the necessary Phillips screwdriver (common, med/smallish size) and two different sizes of torx (T25, T15) screwdrivers required to open up the post.
I heard a rattle inside the post so disassembled top and bottom to access the underside of each end, found one loose “sleeve” and one dangling sleeve attached to a chip of fiberboard on one end piece.
I also noticed that the sisal cut short on top and bottom edges and was not securely stapled. I reinstalled the “sleeves” securely, then reinstalled the post ends and base. My two current cats are excited to have another post.
Another option could have been to discard or store the base and use the post as a 4 sided horizontal scratcher if your cat finds that sufficiently satisfying. My very opinionated little girl cat insists on a verticle post or she will use my favorite leather recliner.
The Princess gets a post. I hope you don’t have the same issues. It is still the best scratching post I’ve found, but a warning is appropriate.
We had a problem with our cats using the wicker furniture on our balcony as their scratching post. We tried to repair the furniture, but I knew the carpet covered scratching post we put out on the balcony was wearing out, and not the number one choice for our cats’ scratching.
I found this tall sisal cat scratching post on Chewy. The cats love it because they can really stretch up and give it a good scratching workout. It is much more durable outside than the old carpeted post and more stable at standing up to the weight of our not very small cats.
I have not seen my cats use the wicker furniture since they have discovered the new 32 inch sisal cat scratching post. I recommend this post to anyone who has larger cats and need an outside scratching post.
Kitty city scratchers are the smart, economical way to protect your valuable furnishings. Our scratcher post look great in a home, they take extraordinary abuse and they support a cat’s inbred desire to sharpen its tools.
Attractive and neutrally toned to fit any decor. Perfect, stable width and extra-tall height designed for cats. Sturdy, natural sisal woven mat wrapped post, creates a durable surface for cats scratching urges.
Fun, jingle ball toy included at the top of the post. BV Pet Safety Certified Easy assembly: With 3 screws, the post conveniently and quickly mounts to the base.
This is the best sisal cat scratcher I’ve ever bought or seen used! Finally, a scratcher that is tall enough for adult cats to stretch out like they are supposed to and yet still so sturdy! The height is perfect for out cats to use it to get to the windows without struggle, and the top is just big enough for a cat to sit on.
What really surprised me is how my foster cat took to it- from the moment she stopped hiding she went right to this scratcher and hasn’t stopped since. Every time she is anxious or excited, she goes right to the scratcher- even if she is just excited because we came home! I really can’t imagine a better sisal post- and while all cats might not like sisal, those that do, REALLY do!.
Love the material and the color. The problem here is the fit and sizing. I ordered my usual size small, and I was not just swimming but drowning in this. It came down to my knees in a way I only want with dresses and skirts (I’m 5’6″ for reference), and the arms were boxy in a pretty unflattering way.
It was so big I had my boyfriend try it on to see if he could wear it instead (he usually wear a men’s medium in tops). Nope; way too big on him. There’s no way sizing down to an extra small would have helped, so this top’s a no-go for me.
My 4 rambunctious kittens LOVE this scratching post. My middle-age and senior cats use it occasionally as well. It has a big base so they don’t knock it over. They love sitting on the top. It’s bigger than another one I have, which they sit on also, The sisal like material (can’t remember what it is) is great.
I don’t get all the little pieces of carpet falling off like from my other scratching posts. I recommend it.

This is the first scratching post that I bought for my kitten that she actually uses!! I took in a feral kitten and I tried the cardboard type with the catnip, and she would only sniff it and then walk away.
I did remove the two balls and replace them with mice, though, because she would bat at the balls and they would bounce back and hit her in the head. It was easy to assemble and appears to be quite sturdy.
This deluxe scratching post allows your pet to relax or entertain themselves for hours on end, keeping their claws busy and their mind content. Place near your cat’s favorite window or anywhere he or she likes to spend time, and watch the fun begin.

Great product at a decent price. It’s very sturdy. My only complaint is there is no carpet or clothe on the top varnished wooden square which makes it hard for our cats (5) to pull themselves up on it.
I knew this when I bought it. The picture is very accurrate. I can fix it by removing the top piece, wrapping it, and rescrewing it down. I would still recomend it because it’s very sturdy and quite tall for our growing cats.
Description Paw Scratching Post scats love scratching and they can scratch your expensive furniture, curtains and clothes. You can’t stop them for scratching but you can surely redirect them to the Omega Paw Lean-it anywhere Scratch Post.
It can be leaned at different angles against the wall. You can even use it on any surface-hardwood, vinyl or carpet. It comes with a stylish end cap and attractive carpet post. Measures 19 inches. Features: Colors may vary The Lean-it Scratching Post is for cats and can be leaned against a wall at any angle or any floor surface.
Used on any floor surface, be it carpet, vinyl or hardwood! Comes with an attractive carpeted post and stylish end cap.
If you’re looking for something that will remain standing up against the wall while the cat uses it, this may not do the trick. However, I put it laying flat on the ground, and my cat uses it all the time.
She prefers it over her standing scratching post. Happy with the purchase.
This Combination Scratcher is a versatile scratching post, allowing you to mount it to a wall (for cats that are inclined to be vertical scratchers) or lay it on the floor (for those cats who opt to scratch horizontally).
Fibrous and durable woven sisal naturally inspires scratching. The Combination Scratcher comes with an easy to set up wall mounting system and Rubber feet provide stability and prevent slipping while on the floor.
You can put the Combination Scratcher wherever your cat is scratching. Measures 61x18x6cm.
Normally my cat Fable prefers cardboard scratchers. She won’t touch rope sisal, which is unfortunately in a lot of cat toys and furniture. She does have one big scratching tower made of woven sisal, though, and she enjoys climbing it, so I took a gamble.
I’m glad I did! This is a sturdy little scratcher. It’s solid enough that I can prop it at an angle against the wall and it won’t budge against my cat’s 10 pounds, but she prefers it flat on the floor.
I like the rubber grips on the bottom that hold it in place on hard floors. I thought it might be too narrow for her, but the size doesn’t seem to bother her. I’ve only had it about a week so I can’t say how well it holds up, but the other woven sisal product I have from Chewy has held up nicely for over 2 years.
If I weren’t renting I would buy another and try to fix it to a wall to give her more scratching opportunities from different angles, but this will do for now!.
my sweet little cat is very dumb and with regular disposable cardboard scratchers, she would always try to eat the bits of cardboard that came off. it would also cause a mess in general since the cardboard bits get everywhere since she scratches a lot.
ive been having this scratcher on my wishlist for almost a year now waiting till i was able to buy it!!! it’s been sold out for the past few months and it finally came back in stock, and on sale too!! im so happy i got it it’s mess free and my cat loves using it.
i just leave it on the floor cuz i cant nail things to my wall and it has a pretty weighted base so it doesnt move around when she uses it! it’s very sturdy and the rope (idk what the material is) is very tightly knit so i can tell it’s not going to unravel anytime soon! def save up and buy it!! i havent found any other kind of scratching board like this that’s not disposable!.
I have purchased these in the past and I love them. The only reason I have to replace is because my cat’s only scratch in 2 specific places and those spots get worn out. Not the fault of the scratcher.
I use these in spots on carpeting or rugs where the cats want to scratch the rug – and it works – they use the scratcher and don’t ruin the rug! YAY!! They are also very sturdy and stay where you place them.
The only downside is don’t accidentally bump them with your bare feet!! IT HURTS!!! LOL!!.
A sturdy wood post, with natural sisal rope wrap conditions nails, encourages scratching and will last for years. The 32 inch height allows cats to fully stretch, the 16 inch base prevents tip over. Includes tips on preventing scratching problems.
This product carries a shipping weight of 30 pounds.
This is my second time purchasing two of “The Ultimate 23-in Sisal Cat Scratchng Post” by SmartCat. I purchased the first two (one for upstairs, one for downstairs) when we first adopted our now 5-year old cats as kittens.
I didn’t actually have to replace them, but the material was starting to show ever so slight wear at the top, and I didn’t want to give them any excuse to try to scratch elsewhere. Let me tell you, this is the very, very best scratching post I have ever used as a long-time cat owner of many decades.
My 2 cats have never once tried to scratch on furniture, because they enjoy these posts so much and use them constantly!! First of all, it’s very tall, even for full-grown cats. My male cats are 13 and 14 lbs and it’s plenty tall for them.
(See my photo!) This is important because they like to extend their arms as high as possible when scratching, if you really want them using it. Second, the sisal material is so much more appealing to cats than other materials, such as carpet.
Third, it’s extremely durable. The post is heavy and will absolutely not topple over, no matter how rough your cat is with it or how big they are. My first two posts lasted for 5 years, and they probably could have gotten another 2 years’ use.
The sisal material really holds up! Fourth, it’s easy to put together. *** Be sure you look for the screws closely because they are hard to find and you will think they are missing. This happened to me the first time I bought the posts 5 years ago, and I didn’t remember and it happened to me again this time.
The screws are in a little plastic bag stapled to the seam of the post about halfway up. Anyway, trust me whn I say this is by far the BEST scratching post in the market because I’ve tried many over the years.
The Europet scratching post is characterized by having a high stick that, in addition to scratching, allows the cat to stretch its joints, muscles and bones, essential after many hours of sleeping. It is easy and quick to assemble.
The scratching posts are the ideal way for your cat to keep its nails healthy and strong and prevent it from scratching other objects in your home. They also help your cat to stay active during the time he spends alone at home and to release any possible stress he may have.

So I don’t have the climb cat scratcher, I have something similar to this, it’s a flat surface scratcher. But my cats are impressed. It helps ease their stress. My cats like to scratch the couch and other miscellaneous things so this is a must in my household.
As you can see in the photo they have used it a lot.
The scratcher is good for kittens and cats. Now when it comes to the hole below highest level, it’s strictly for kittens. My friend brings her almost yr old cat over. He became so upset, because his head wouldn’t even fit in it.
My kitten runs in and out of it all the time. The cat taught my kitten how to use the scratcher! They’re like brothers.
Enrich your pet’s imagination and encourage outside-of-the-box play with the fabulous pet toys from Sharples! This Playpost and Ball Cat Post is purr-fect for keeping your curious kitty active! With a sturdy, carpeted square base and a hanging catnip ball for batting and catching, your pussycat will find new games to love every day! Fun fur every occasion!.
Its fine but I should have bought the bigger sturdier version. As my cats are both big, when scratching on it they pull it over. My own fault. I would recommend this for kittens. They’re 8 yrs old but i did get this size when they were 9 weeks old & they loved it.
This is used all the time as they still scratch at it when on its side but i will have to buy a bigger one.
This scratching post is well made, and despite tearing at it regularly, it hasn’t unravelled , from the string section. Most of my cat owning friends who have bought similar posts have had the string part that is wound round and round, unwind, and they’ve had to throw the post away.
Mine is still perfect and going strong despite lots of use. The only thing I would say, is that the base doesn’t seem heavy enough, and when my cat scratches on it, the post tends to tip over ( but she still uses it!!) Maybe it’s just my cat!!!.
The Vibrant Life Jumbo Cat Scratching Post, Gray is the perfect way to let your cat stretch, scratch, and play. An extra tall scratching post lets even the longest cat get a stretch. Our large scratcher is wrapped in dura carpet that your cat will love to scratch.
Satisfy your cats natural urges, while saving your furniture! Included dangle and spring toys keep cats entertained, while providing exercise and enrichment. Contemporary design fits into your home. Light assembly required – tools and instructions included.
You know when you order cat stuff online and it comes and you’re disappointed because it’s so much smaller than it looked online? Well this scratching post was the opposite! I was pleasantly surprised at how large this way.
The instructions were super easy to follow, but honestly it’s so easy to put together that you might not even need the instructions. The bottom and top are particle board covered in soft carpet like fabric, the post looked like composite wood covered in a catchy dense fabric.
My cats have gone to town on this and you can’t tell yet which is nice. I am keeping an eye on the spring ball on the bottom because it looked like plastic pushed into a spring, but it hasn’t come off yet.
My chunky cats do like to run up and down it and perch at the top which is adorable.
Keep kitty off your fine furniture with this cat scratching post from Pet Zone. Made of durable wood and wrapped in sturdy carpeted fiber, this post will provide endless hours of scratching relief your cat will enjoy.
Featuring soft fabric construction and attached ball for swatting, this post provides hours of entertainment.
I bought one for my new kitten & she played with it for a couple of months, until the string didn’t stretch and bounce back. I only realized it when the string would get wrapped around her paw or arm.
The harder she tried to get out, the tighter it got. I figured it had seen better days & got a new one today. Within a couple of hours, the new one did the same thing & the string was fully stretchable! I had to cut it off her paw, and will be returning it tomorrow.
I was so disappointed as this was her favorite toy! If a pet owner is not there when their pet is playing with this toy, it could possibly be very dangerous. Buyer be aware.
We just bought this in the Clearfield PA Big Lots store. Please tell me what is on this product? Our cat has literally “hugged it” non-stop since we got it. He is biting toy and rubbing against it and won’t leave it alone.
Is there catnip of something sprayed on it? This never happened with any other scratch post I have ever bought. Would appreciate an answer to my question. Thank you.
Furry friend absolutely loved it. The moose occasionally knocks it over, but not that much for how much he pulls on it – even when yanking on the toy. Highly recommend – especially at the Big Lots price.
TRIXIE Parla 24. 4-in Fleece Cat Scratching Post, Beige; The Trixie Parla 24. 4-in Fleece Cat Scratching Post is just what your feline friends need to maintain her healthy nails. The post is wrapped in a durable sisal material, providing your pet with the purr-fect surface for sharpening her claws so she has less desire to scratch at your furniture and carpet! When your girl is exhausted from the day, the plush covered base is the ideal spot for long snoozes and cozy naps.
This design is made for quick and easy assembly and will attract your cat at any age!.
When I opened the box, I noticed a strong odor. I don’t know if it’s the item itself or where it was stored or what, but 3 days now of sitting in a hallway trying to air it out. Other than that? When I pulled the pole section out of the box, my cat was immediately like, “OH! Mine! MINE!” and started scratching on it! Next I tried to get ahold of the carpeted base to assemble it, he laid on it and covered it with paws outstretched, “NO! MINE!” LOL! Once I got it together he was instantly thrilled.
He is 7 and we’ve had him since he was 5 mos old and I’ve used the same type of scratching post as long as we’ve had him. It’s a go-to favorite, including the height. I have two really tall ones that are primo dollar and he has rarely used them.
Something about this height he loves. He lays on the ground so 1/2 of him is on the floor and he stretches up to scratch. Someone complained it didn’t last more than 6 mos. , it depends on how often your cat uses it and what condition his claws are in, if you don’t get them trimmed? Yeah more likely to shred the scratching post faster.
I bought this to replace another similiar one because after awhile, the rope stuff starts to disintigrate and he can get it in his eyes. So when I notice it’s getting worn out, I just replace it. His health and happiness are most important, so when you notice it’s getting worn out, ya buy another one.
Simple logic and responsible pet owner stuff. Hoping the smell dissipates, meanwhile he’s really enjoying it. Good value as this type of scratcher is becoming more and more crazy expensive.
They wore the second one out so much that it broke completely off the base! But I was happy to buy a second one because of the price and size. It’s a great price for being so big. It’s pretty sturdy too.
My last one did last for a couple of years before breaking and I believe it would have lasted longer if I didn’t have 3 rowdy cats and a 10 year old who would lean on it/sit on it lol. It comes in two pieces.
You assemble it with a little allen wrench and big screw that are both provided. I sit this on a rug behind their favorite recliner to be naughty with and it stays in place pretty well. The only real con is that the rope starts shedding as they scratch it so makes the base dirty and the cats track that all into my rug and across my hardwood floors.
Cat stand is super cute and easy to set up. The kitty loves it and spends most of her day scaling it, napping on it, playing with the ball, etc. The only thing I would say is it is not very sturdy. Our kitten is less than a year old, but a very rough player.
We’re already looking to upgrade because the scratching posts have started to unscrew themselves from all the times our girl has launched herself across the room at it. We also had to help secure the base by adding free weights to it so she doesn’t topple it over.
The posts themselves are holding up well to scratching, just the overall tree is taking a heavy beating from a very energetic kitten. All in all I would recommend the tree for more gentle players.

Bref: robuste et bien adapté au chats de gabarit petit à grand, un excellent achat !.
