There are a variety of reasons why a cat may be picky when it comes to their litter. Some cats may prefer a specific type of litter, while others may prefer a litter with a certain scent. Some cats may also prefer a litter that is softer or more absorbent.
There are a few things you can do to try and please a picky cat. First, try to experiment with different types of litter to see which one your cat prefers. You can also try adding a little bit of essential oil to the litter to give it a pleasant scent.
Finally, make sure to keep the litter box clean and scoop it out regularly.

I recently adopted a very geriatric cat (19 y/o) and I had provided the lightweight clay litter that I have for all my cats. The transition was hard on her, and she got sick. That wasn’t unexpected, but then there was litter box avoidance, that didn’t happen before she got sick.
Since she might have associated the litter and the litter box with being sick, I decided to completely change both the boxes and the litter type. I tried this, and was skeptical of what the box said about long lasting and hard clumping.
I was wrong, and the box was right. She will sort of drill a hole in the litter when she urinates, and the wood clumps very hard around the area, but not to the litter box. So I scoop it up, and have to shake and bounce it around a bit to let the free flowing litter sift out and then remove the clump.
And the clump stays hard. And I don’t have to put in a 4″ layer of litter in the box either. So for two litter pans, I get several months out of a box. I decided to change another box to this litter, and one of my cats uses it to urinate in, and chooses the same spot each time.
So that box has a deeper layer, and each day I wind up removing about a baseball sized clump of litter, and it doesn’t break apart on shaking the scoop. And for her, I decided to see if she would accept the wood litter after discovering one of her back paws heavily encrusted with clay litter that she must have stepped on when it was wet.
If the cat should happen to urinate against the side, it will look gummy, but it scoops out cleanly. Yes, there is some tracking, but at least it is not crunchy if stepped upon, and there seems to be less adherence to my long haired cat that uses it to urinate in.
(I only have two cats who use that liter). The rest use the clay litter, although I intend to change several more to the Okocat litter. And it clearly is less dusty than the clay litter which is advertised as ‘dust free’.
So of the 7 litter boxes provided, three are with the Okocat litter. Since my geriatric cat had been declawed, I chose the soft litter variety. None of my other cats are declawed, nor would I ever do that.
But how many people seek to adopt a 19 y/o cat? So her stay at the shelter was short.
I have a real serious love/hate relationship with this litter. We have three cats and one of them has recently started having unacceptable bathroom habits for some reason. He has decided that he is going to pee and poop on the floor or on our hot tub cover.
Now this is outside of our home in our screen enclosure which is good but not something we want to put up with of course. We have two ridiculously expensive Litter Robots with clumping clay litter that he was using without problem until recently.
My wife found this litter on clearance at a local pet store and I decided to try to see if I could get our problem cat to use it. To my great pleasure and surprise, I found he liked it and started to regularly use a new litter box with this litter and not the hot tub or floor.
The other cats seem to like it too. So I have a new litter box outside in the screen enclosure but that will soon have to end as Florida’s rainy season and ultra humidity approaches. Now Litter Robot claims you can use this litter in their machine by limiting it to 7 1/2 cups and letting the waste sit for an hour and then manually cycling it.
Well it’s just not true and then why would I use a Litter Robot that way anyway? This litter will not easily go through the screen and you end up wasting half of it every time it cycles. Just not usable in the Litter Robot especially if you have more than one cat.
Also on the negative side, this stuff tracks everywhere. It makes a huge mess and you need to clean up constantly around the boxes. So we have a litter that my problem cat will use instead of urinating and defalcating in unacceptable places.
That’s a big big plus. The stuff makes a mess and can’t be used in the Litter Robot which are two big negatives. The premise is great and I appreciate the basic concept. It actually scoops pretty well keeping the urine intact and encasing the poop which is good.
It is also flushable and doesn’t smell bad which are both great assets. So what’s the final verdict? Well I’m not giving up I have been experimenting with different mixtures of 70% ococat and 30% regular clay litter to give him the attraction of the wood litter but adding just enough weight to pull the litter through the Litter Robot screen when it cycles.
So this could be the answer to all of my problems or this experiment may be a total bust. Hopefully this will help me come up with a solution. We will see.
I refuse to use clay-based litter because of the dust, tracking, and the horrific perfumes they scent it with that make any litter box odors worse. Unscented ones don’t cover up any odors either. I tried regular wood pellets and found it difficult to clean and it’s not dust-free since the pellets disintegrate into wood dust.
Also, it wasn’t that great at covering up the smell. Okocat is superior to wood pellets and clay litter. The wood pellets clump so cleaning up with a scoop is easy. I pick out the stools and just flush them down the toilet.
My cat doesn’t have trouble covering up the stool as long as I am cleaning her box on a regular basis and she has loose pellets to cover it with. I find the scent coverage is also superior to any other litter type.
I’ve found the right combination to keep her box virtually odor-free. I feed my cat a brand of clean cat food that reduces the severity of the odor and this litter effectively covers up the rest. We no longer have to light candles, spray with room perfume, or air out the room.
She does get some pellets on the floor but clean up is easy. I will say that this litter will not work properly if you have the litter box near a dehumidifier. It will turn into sawdust instead of clumping.
You can have it in the same room just not near the dehumidifier. This litter works best if you have a litter box liner. I have two litter boxes and the clumped parts are hard to scoop off the bottom of the sides of the box I don’t have a liner for but it might also depend on the surface texture of your litter box.

I love this pellet litter! Back in college (15 years ago), I came across this when shopping for my cat’s litter & food supplies. When I saw this, I thought I’d give it a try and I am so glad I did. then they stopped selling it in store & I had to buy Tidy Cats 24/7 clumping clay litter.
I HIGHLY recommend the litter, but most definitely not from this site considering it is over 3 times the price on here than at Walmart ($7. 86/20 lb bag)!!! My kitty adjusted just fine. For a couple years, I could not find in store (and had no idea I could just order online).
It is now thankfully always in stock at my local Walmart for $7. 86 for a 20 lb bag when the price on here is $28. 99 (PLUS you have to pay shipping if you don’t hit the “$49+” for free shipping). all you kitty lovers of this litter, SAVE yourself literally over 1/3 the price by purchasing in store at Walmart or online.
I have NO idea how they get away with pricing it over 3 times the price you can pay for it at other stores?! In regards to the litter, you won’t be disappointed. Amazing odor control BUT my absolute love for it, is it’s amazing “track-less” ability.
It does NOT track all over the place like normal clay litters do. IF a pellet does happen to come out of the litter box, you literally came toss right back into the box or toss! Your kitty will thank you as well because they love their box to be nice & clean.
Great for our cats health and ours AND the environment! Works very well with order control. DOESN’T clump up in my cats paws that’s a big deal because not only is she not tracking it around my house but also she isnt having to ingest it from cleaning her paws.
I find with your average name brand litters cause alot of constipation for cats during to cleaning of their paws. I have been using Fresh Pine for many years now, I will never go back to normal litter again.
5 star product forsure and there not paying me to say this. I wish more stores carried this product so more people were aware of what a great product it is. My husband is NOT a cat person but inherited one when we got together, his biggest problem had always been that he doesn’t want the house to smell like a little box.
“well duh who does” I found Feline Fesh Pine Cat Litter and we haven’t fought about the smell of my cats litter box since. His problem was that if my cat hadn’t even used the box the house still had the smell of cat litter.
“Y’all with cats know what he is saying” this litter keeps our home litter smell FREE! THANK YOU FELINE FRESH!.
Seems to be a glitch with my app, but I’m trying to give this stuff give stars. This is all we use for our 13 year old cat. I’ve tried that other pine cat litter, but there’s something in it that irritates her.
just in case you’re lazy like me, I usually let it go a few days before cleaning it out and it’s not a problem. Couple of notes for you. They pellets dissolve as they get wet, but until they’re saturated, they keep their pine smell.
The sawdust does get a bit heavy for our old lady, so she stops burying after the first couple of days, but that’s ok, that just makes it easier to clean. Speaking off cleaning, if you have one of those slotted things, the pellets are a bit too large to go through.
just FYI. I usually clean it out twice a week and change it completely every other week. That’s for one cat – if you have more, clean more often or you’ll notice it. Maybe there best thing, it’s just sawdust when you’re done.

clean household Fresh News is 99% dust free and 100% non-allergenic. Less dust around the house leaves a cleaner litter box, a cleaner home, and a cleaner environment.
This is a great litter. I have a senior cat with 4 litter boxes. Her normal litter is being discontinued so I needed to find something else. She doesn’t like clay litters and her regular litter is also a recycled paper so I figured we’d try this.
In one of her boxes I mixed this with her regular litter and in one box I used only this litter to see if she would notice a difference, and her other 2 boxes were just the old litter incase she rejected this one.
She seems to prefer the box that is only the Fresh News litter! It contains odors as well, if not better than the old litter, and tracks less as well. The one difference is it’s a light color and it’s harder to tell the soiled litter from the non soiled litter.
My cat always does her business in the corner or edges of her box so the center is usually clean. That makes it easier to see where she went potty. The litter does puff up when it gets wet just not as much as her old one did.
Still, that’s a minor issue and over all, I would recommend this litter. The 25lb bag is about the same volume as the 30lb bag of her old litter and it’s a bit cheaper which is also a plus since she insists on having 4 boxes! The pellets seem to be a little softer even though they are a little bit bigger.
I got a free sample of Fresh News Non-Clumping Scented Paper Cat Litter. I couldn’t wait to try it out. I loved that the bag was resealable, not allowing the litter to spill out. At first I was worried our cats wouldn’t like it and anticipated an adjustment period.
It is very different from what we used before. However, they jumped right in! The litter pellets are soft and I believe that is why the cats took to it without issue. It definitely masked the ammonia scent of litter box cat urine after use.
However, it took a bit for our cats to learn to cover their “solids”. I did find the litter box needed cleaning and refilling more frequently, after each solid deposit. The urine smell did sneak up after a couple days so we needed to dispose of and refill the litter more frequently than with our other litter brand.
Overall I like the natural eco friendly nature of the product and would recommend it.
Why don’t you shred those humongous pellets? So that they in fact absorb stuff. This is by far the worst litter I’ve tried. But the 2nd star is for the concept. I support the idea of an environmentally friendly product.
But it doesn’t serve it’s purpose well. It should be a finer texture because it’s a challenge to sift through and having the cat poop sit on top of it is just unpleasant. It also doesn’t help with the urine smell around the litter box.
I’m actually quite confused what the company was trying to achieve. Are you supposed to wait until all the pellets are completely soaked in cats urine and then toss the whole thing out? I will wait until you shred the thing and then give it another try.
Maybe. I have 5 cats, only one used it, because he doesn’t really care what to use.
Level-up your cat litter! Veterinarian recommended and winner of the Cat Fancy Editors? Choice Award, Boxiecat litter quality makes a noticeable difference. Boxiecat achieves incredibly low dust levels with an advanced dust suppression process. Boxiecats scent-free formula is truly odorless and eliminates ammonia odors without using fragrance as a masking agent.
It is all natural, hypoallergenic, and contains no chemicals or additives. Boxiecat litter is soft on cats paws and resists tracking. Use less, toss less, and save money over time. Because Boxiecat stays so clean and forms smaller and lighter clumps, it is also 2x longer lasting.

Boxiecat litter is ideal for pet parents who recognize the effectiveness of clay but want a healthier and better performing option.
This litter has been a total game changer. I’m not supposed to mention all the competitors by name, but I will say that I’ve been scooping litter for multiple cats for over 40 years and have tried pretty much everything, and this BLOWS EVERYTHING ELSE AWAY, including its sister clay product by the same maker.
Although the gray pro bags of Boxie clump really well, I used to dread scooping the boxes because of the strain on my elbow and hand from sifting through that heavy clay. (I’m a musician, so I’m super careful with my hands.
) This litter CLUMPS EVEN BETTER than the pro edition of Boxie, to my utter amazement, but it’s LIGHT and EASY TO SIFT through. I’m sure the glow will wear off at some point but, after two weeks of using this, I actually still kind of enjoy scooping my 6 (!!!) litter boxes.
If I could include a shrug emoji here, I would. It’s just such a pleasure to have it be so freaking easy after years of struggle and to be able to leave my cats with fresh and clean smelling boxes. Some reviewers have commented on the smell.
I actually find THE MILD BARLEY SCENT MUCH MORE PLEASANT AND LESS PUNGENT than the clay pro edition. It also seems to me that my cats SPRAY against the litter box walls LESS FREQUENTLY with the barley than they did with the clay – it still happens occasionally but not nearly as often, and that also simplifies box cleaning dramatically.
Because the litter clumps so well, it does require a little more effort than the clay edition to detach the clumps from the sides or bottom of the box, but that’s a small price to pay for sifting through what really almost feels like air for the rest of the box.
You find those clumps super quickly and easily. Oh, and I forgot the whole reason I first bought it – it’s super light and easy to carry. Now that just feels like a bonus. After swapping out one box per day for the first three or four days, I swapped out the rest of my boxes, and that was the last time I’ll be carrying those heavy loads of clay around.
Hallelujah! Could not recommend this litter more highly unless it scooped itself. Have been blabbing to everyone I know about it and waiting all week to have the time to write a proper review at my computer rather than just 5-starring on my phone.
I was super excited about this litter (as excited as one gets at the prospect of minimizing the evidence of cat poo) when I ordered it and again when I poured it into the sparkling clean litter boxes.
The litter is fine, seems very soft for kitties’ feet, has very little fragrance, and is extremely low dust. I normally use Everclean Unscented, but I don’t care for the smell (it had a light fragrance to it) and I HATE how dusty it is.
Those are the two reasons I began my latest journey in search of a new litter. This Boxiecat litter is wonderfully easy to scoop. HOWEVER, it does not do well with odor control. Not as well as Everclean, at least.
I am very sad because I really love this litter in every other way. Please note that I live in an apartment, so it may have enough odor control if you don’t need to spend time in the same room as the litter boxes.
I clean their boxes about once a day. The odor is terrible for a while after and subsides to a low-key unpleasant after that.
i gotta admit, i laughed at this product when i first saw it on the shelf. i mean. probiotic CAT LITTER??? but then i googled it & the reviews seemed overall really good, so i thought I’d give it a shot.
i have two cats, one of whom is elderly and VERY particular about her litter, & I’ve been trying to find an unscented litter that a) actually clumped and 2) didn’t smell to high heaven. i put this litter in one litterbox & left the previous litter brand in the other litterbox.
(tidy cats 4 in 1, in case you’re curious. ) & then i let my cats choose! within 2 days they were both using the boxiecat litter exclusively. i liked how firmly it clumped & that it doesn’t smell at all even if i forget to scoop it for a few days.
YMMV depending on how. pungent. your cats are, but personally i have stopped laughing at the concept of probiotic cat litter. it also doesn’t seem to track any worse than tidy cats, so I’m content & have switched to this brand entirely! i go through it less quickly because it works to combat smells for so long, so even the comparatively higher price is not noticeable.
i would definitely recommend giving it a try! if you hate it, just return the remaining litter. it’s Target, they’ll take anything back. :p.

I’ve been trying to find an unscented, low/no dust litter that does not stick to the sides of the 3 plastic litter boxes in my house. I have tried every well known brand and one lesser known, but highly rated brand.
In each case, I would get great results for only 2 of the 3 issues I wanted to address. I had been reading great reviews for this litter, but none mentioned anything about it not sticking to the litter box.
In the past few days I’ve been mixing my first bucket of this litter with my existing brand and the results have been amazing! No dust, no artificial scent and no sticking to the boxes! And this is only as a mix with my existing litter, not even using it completely on it’s own! I’m so glad I decided to try this litter.
Not only does it give me the results I had hoped for, it is also reasonably priced and always in stock at the grocery store where I do my regular shopping.

I tried this litter after a friend recommended it; I had been using Precious Cat litter for ten years and was getting very frustrated at how dusty and inefficient at odor control it had become. I have an asthmatic cat, and the little clouds of dust I would get while dumping litter in the box or scooping were bad news for him! I have to say I was really surprised that Free and Clean worked so well, because in my mind grocery store litter is associated with that awful ammonia smell, the old lady with too many cats smell.
It was actually quite the opposite: It is extremely low dust, nothing while pouring it in, nothing while scooping. The only time I start seeing dust is several weeks in, when it’s time to empty the box completely and wash it.
I have two large litter boxes and several cats in a two bedroom apartment and there is now ZERO smell from the boxes, even right after the cats go number 2. You would never guess cats lived here. Until you see the litter all over the floor, that is.
Yes, that’s the trade-off: the litter is super low dust, scoops very easily (no more chiseling off concrete blocks of pee stuck to the box, yay), has superb odor control BUT it tracks EVERYWHERE. And when I say everywhere, I mean all over every piece of furniture, all over the floor two rooms over, all over your bed, etc.
It also sticks very easily to fluffy longhaired cat butts. For me, the lack of smell and the absence of dust more than compensate for the constant sweeping I have to do, but if that drives you nuts that may not be the right product for you.
It’s also pretty pricey, and the packaging is so much plastic, I am not fond of it. But in the end until I find better, I am sold on this one!.
Tidy Cats brand litter has always been my ‘go to’ litter. Sadly, my confidence in the brand has been greatly compromised by the last box of Tidy Cats Instant Action I purchased. I am now in search of a brand that delivers what is stated on the packaging and in the marketing.
My first complaint is that clearly, the formulation for this product changed and consumers were not notified. I’ve been using this formulation and others without significant issues for many, many years.
This latest box, however, stunned me. My second complaint is that this litter literally tracked EVERYWHERE in my house – three floors – and everything in my house has a layer of litter dust and kitty paw prints on it.
I keep litter boxes in the basement, as far away from the living spaces as possible and always have. I was absolutely astounded at how far the litter and dust traveled. Of greatest concern was the dust.
I was cleaning the litter box one day and noticed that my chest began to burn. Only after I finished cleaning the litter box and moved onto other things around the house did I realized that the burning had subsided.
I attributed the burning to the dust and have worn a mask since then when cleaning or filling the boxes I have no idea how this product / change in formulation made it to market. I will be cleaning up dust and litter for weeks to come, even though I’ve replaced the litter with another product.
I tried this litter before I had covered litter boxes and didn’t love it because of its light weight it tracked all over the floor, however since I have switched to covered boxes it doesn’t seem to be an issue.
I will say that the clumping with this litter is much better and does not fall apart when trying to scoop it like the heavy litter. The light weight makes all of the scooping seem easier because there is less resistance and the “crumbs” that fall back in from the clumps that you seem to keep re-scooping with traditional litter are non existent with light weight, making it an overall quicker, more pleasant experience that has led to less procrastination and dread.
I’ve actually been more consistent with keeping up with scooping which is definitely a win. It does cost more but in my opinion worth it and it does lower the price if you buy the large container, something I never did before because the weight made it unmanageable, but not an issue with the light weight.
I definitely recommend that you use it with a covered litter box to reduce the spread from kicking and scratching. It does fling further than regular litter. I have found that covered litter boxes are not as aggravating if you remove the whole top and scoop.
I also think this brand/type has less dust than all the litters I’ve tried and I’ve tried a lot.
Product description: Style:Ultra | Size: 40 lb. A clay litter uniquely formulated combining heavy non tracking granules with medium grain. The result is an excellent clumping litter that prevents moisture from reaching the bottom of the litter box, while providing a clump that will not break apart.
Ultra is perfect for multi-cat families and cat owners with sifting or mechanical litter boxes and it controls odor naturally without perfume, deodorants or chemicals.

Dispose of used litter in trash. Do not flush. Some Cat Care Tips: Natural for your cats and convenient for you. The key to having your cat always use the litter box is to keep it clean. Scoop the box daily to keep it fresh and encourage your cat to always come back. Have more than one cat – have more than one litter box. Place the litter box in a quiet place, away from noisy appliances and high traffic areas. A clean litter box means a good home for your cat. Establish routines for your cat. Happy, content cat is least likely to develop behavior problems.

Encouraging your cat to use an indoor litter box, or properly disposing of outdoor cat feces, is beneficial to overall water quality. Please do not flush cat litter in toilets or dispose of it outdoors in gutters or storm drains.
Crystals quickly stop odor 5X better than the leading clay litter
The blue crystals are also extremely lightweight and gentle on your cat’s paws
Small crystals minimize dust and make scooping easy
Reduce cat odors five times more effectively than the leading clay litter with Fresh Step Crystals. As the cat litter s crystal technology absorbs moisture, it clumps together to make the scoop-out process easy.
If you’re tired of your house smelling like the litter box, Fresh Step offers minimal litter maintenance and excellent odor control. The lightweight crystals are extra gentle on kitty’s paws. Plus, they make transporting kitty litter to the trash can simple.
Fill: Fill your clean litter box with at least 1-1/2 – 2 inches of Fresh Step crystals litter. (2) Scoop & Mix: Scoop daily and mix the crystals for maximum performance. (3) Dump & Refill: Dump in trash every 20-30 days or when most crystals become discolored. Do not flush.
Toxoplasmosis Warning: We would like to remind our customers, especially pregnant women and immunosuppressed persons, that cat feces can sometimes transmit a disease called toxoplasmosis. Therefore, always remember to wash hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter. For further information, consult your doctor. Unused cat litter poses no toxoplasmosis threat. Contains silica gel.

IšverstiShow in original languageLow dust, good urine odor control, and it dehydrates poop VERY quickly (if your cat doesn’t bury the poop, just scoop some litter on top and the smell will be gone in a few minutes).
I find it lasts about two weeks (I have one cat, a boy with an enormous bladder). If you start smelling pee before the two-week mark, check if your cat is peeing on the wall of the box and letting it dribble down – you may just need to wipe the wall of the box.
It is very important to STIR THE LITTER EVERY DAY. Each individual crystal can only absorb a limited amount of urine, so you need to circulate clean/absorbent crystals down to the bottom of the box to prevent pee puddles.
It also helps to make the litter at least two inches deep – urine will pass by more crystals and get absorbed before it reaches the bottom, and with a larger volume of crystals to spread the work individual crystals won’t get “full” as quickly.
Every now and then I am tempted to save money by switching back to clay litter, but I always end up going back to crystals – the odor control is just so much better. This has been my go-to crystal brand for a long time – the best balance of quality vs.
You want a clean that lasts. And so does tidy cats 24/7 performance. With triple odor protection, plus a form so simple you barely have to think about it for nearly a week, it gives “continuous clean” a whole new ring.
Directions: 1. Pour to a depth of 2-3 inches. 2. Remove solids daily. 3. Add more litter to maintain a depth of 2-3 inches. Use a moisture-proof cat box large enough to comfortably accommodate your cat(s). We recommend removing solid waste daily and cleaning the cat box with warm water and a mild detergent between litter changes.

Note: We want to remind those with suppressed immune systems and pregnant women that a parasite sometimes found in cat feces can cause toxoplasmosis. Please wash hand thoroughly after handling used cat litter. Encouraging your cat to use an indoor litter box, or properly disposing of outdoor cat feces, is beneficial to overall water quality. Please do not flush cat litter in toilets or dispose of it outdoors in gutter or storm drains. Used litter is not recommended for garden use. Store in a dry place. All of the bad reviews on this litter are people complaining that this NON CLUMPING litter. doesn’t clump. ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO CLUMP THE PEE, THATS THE WHOLE POINT! it even says that on the product description! It absorbs it but doesn’t clump it.
Clumping litters have been known to cause intestinal blockages in cats because anything wet makes it clump, so when they clean the litter from their paws, it can get into their little digestive tracts and really mess them up and potentially kill them.
Seriously, look it up. Anyway, just came here to say that literally every single person on here who complained that this litter doesn’t clump clearly doesn’t understand what *non clumping* means. Seems pretty cut and dry to me, but I guess a lot of people don’t understand the meaning.
As for my actual review of the litter, it’s great, it does make a bit of a mess around the box, but that’s a small price to pay to sleep easy knowing that my cats litter isn’t going to potentially kill them.
Also, there are some great mats that you can put under or next to your litter box that act like litter magnets and fix that mess around the box problem all together. I hope all of you consider switching to non clumping litter, even if it’s not specifically this one.
I have multiple cats, and I ALSO have severe allergies and have a really heightened sense of smell. I have tried every litter out there, and found one I really liked, but it was discontinued, so the search was on for an affordable litter that was low dust and one that didn’t have a strong perfume smell.
I have always used the clumping litter, thinking it wouldn’t smell as bad, PLUS, it says on the bag that it’s “low dust”, but the smell was AWFUL, and dust would fill the air each time it was used, and made it hard for me to breathe, even when I was in another room.
I could ALWAYS tell when the litter box was being used by the dusty smell that covered the ENTIRE house. THEN, I tried Tidy cats SCENTED, NON clumping litter, and I LOVE it! I NEVER smell the litter box now, and dust doesn’t fill the air whenever my cats use the litter box, and even though it is “scented”, I don’t smell a perfume smell, and for someone with a REALLY powerful sense of smell, THAT is a blessing! And, it’s AFFORDABLE, which REALLY helps an old lady who lives on a budget, and having it shipped straight to me home keeps me from having to struggle with dragging those heavy bags home from the store.
I am a tidy cat fan all the way! I LOVE this product!.
After searching and paying through the nose for litter, who knew this would end up being the best my cats have ever used. We have had cats for over 25 years so this is a plus for us. One of our boys decided he wasn’t going to use what I was buying and went outside the box every day unless I had just emptied the crystal litter.
Ever since I started using this, he has used it instead of my floor. All I do is remove the poo and some urine. Add some more, and it does a great job of stopping bad smells. I do not like clumping litter.
It sticks to the paws of my hairy guy, Max. And I also don’t believe it is healthy for cats. Something else I’ve discovered is, it does not stick to the disposable pan or the regular one. It also keeps urine from soaking through.
This litter has afforded us to have two litter pans now. This is a little dusty, but it isn’t like another brand I bought. That stuff flew through the air dusting everything and our cats. For the price of less than $8 for 30 lbs.
, I am super happy to be saving money after spending over $70 a month, and it never was enough. Living on a low income, this stuff is a blessing. Oh, for you that thinks it’s too heavy to carry out, take some out in a small plastic grocery bag and then carry it out.
Our cats are happy. We are happy. What more could you ask for.
Tidy Cats Instant Action No time to waste? No problem. Instant Action is designed to trap odors from the start. And with Odor Erasers in the mix to neutralize ammonia and tackle feces and urine odors, you can rest assured it’ll work as quickly as you do.

It is no longer a good product. It used to be a great product, clumping very quickly and forming a very tight clump (regarding urine). Starting several months ago (June 2022 or earlier), something changed – it no longer clumps as tightly nor as quickly.
When you try to scoop up the urine, the clump breaks apart leaving small pieces – including pieces that pass through the scooper. Also, because it doesn’t clump as quickly, the urine can make its way to the bottom of the litter pan where it forms a sticky clump that is cumbersome to scrape out and remove.
Reviews of this product on the websites of the major “big box stores” are full of these same comments. While many people rate the product highly – many people are also complaining that the litter doesn’t clump as well or as quickly – exactly what we’ve experienced.
We placed a call to Purina’s customer service department and provided all the information they requested. The response was that “there has been no change to the product or its ingredients”. That being said, we stand by our statement and observations – “something” changed – and not for the better.
Considering the high price of this product, it is a big disappointment – and has forced us to try and find a better product. Too bad – this was a “10”, now it’s a “2”.
I gave this 2 stars because it is probably as good as most lightweight litters. I have 6 cats and transitioned to this from pine pellet litter, due to arthritis, the light weight and no need to sift pellets.
I thought this would be easier, but it was not at all! The first thing noticed was the PROFOUND scent for this type. I thought I had bought before and that it was lightly scented or no scent, but I was mistaken.
I had to buy the unscented kind and mix with it. The second thing I hated about this product was that within a couple of hours the entire room was coated as if someone threw sand everywhere from the tracking.
There was also a terrible coat of dust on everything. I clean and sweep this room daily, as well as scooping usually twice a day. I am used to clean floors and furniture in the room the cats use for the litter boxes, but this was impossible with this litter.
I just had to wait until this was all gone and do a thorough cleaning. Lastly, once used, this litter is no longer light weight at all. I am back to the pine pellets, but replacing every couple of days rather than sifting the pellets.
This is so much better for us. Poo does stink, but I scoop that and wa-la, I sweep up a few pellets and clean and happy! This was a large chore and extra expense that we did not need right now – lesson learned.
Feline Pine uses the odor-fighting powers of 100% natural pine instead of harsh chemicals, additives or synthetic perfumes to eliminate the toughest odors. It’s the smart choice for the health of your cat and home.
Transitioning a finicky cat? Step 1: Pour 1 inch of Feline Pine Litter into a clean litter box and add 1-2 inches of your old litter brand on top of the Feline Pine Litter. Do not mix; your cat will mix as it is used. Step 2: The next time you change the litter box, fill with 1 inch of Feline Pine and a lesser amount of your old litter brand. Repeat this for 3 to 4 changes, lessening the amount of your old litter each time. Step 3: Fill litter box with on inch of Feline Pine. At this point the transition should be complete. However, some cats do need more time, so don’t give up! Repeat step 2 as needed, knowing that you are making a smart choice for the health of your cat and home. Instructions for Use: Step 1: Pour one inch of Feline Pine into a clean litter box. Step 2: Scoop and discard solid waste daily. Step 3: Shake box to reveal fresh dry pellets. Step 4: Change litter as needed. Do not flush or put in drains. Put used litter into the trash.
100% Natural Pine.
Caution: Keep this package away from small children to avoid danger of suffocation. Please wash hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter. We want to remind pregnant women and those with supressed immune systems, that a parasite sometimes found in cat feces can cause toxoplasmosis.
These 52lb bags are a beast to haul up a flight of stairs but it’s sooo worth it. For some reason a bunch of people in these reviews didn’t realize this is non clumping litter even though it’s clearly labeled on this enormous bag.
Where on earth they think they’ll find clumping litter in a bag and this much of it for only $10, I have no idea. I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes that I hate dealing with. About twice a week both boxes get completely dumped out and refilled with this stuff and it’s great.
It takes care of the stink, I don’t have to go digging for cat nuggets, and it’s the best price you’ll find anywhere.
I switched to this from Wal-Mart Special Kitty brand about 3 years ago because I have 5 boxes to change every week. The past few months, it’s become more dusty and less odor absorbent. It’s also becoming harder to find in stock at my local Sam’s.
I usually buy 6-8 bags at a time. Going to try clumping litter in a few boxes and if the cats adjust, will be switching. This litter is still better than Walmart Special Kitty and a good value for non clumping litter users.
I would give negative 100 stars if I could. Purchased Tidy Cats as a substitute when I couldn’t buy Member’s Mark cat litter & I as well as my cats absolutely hate Tidy Cats litter. It does not clump at all & when you try to scoop the pee spots it just breaks apart leaving it all in the litter box so we end up having to ladle it out so the ammonia smell doesn’t get too strong.
I will never buy Tidy Cats again! PLEASE BRING BACK MEMBER’S MARK CAT LITTER!.
One 20lb bag lasts about 4 weeks for 1 cat. Naturally unscented, locks in odors, virtually dust-free, and has the soft texture cats prefer. Only has one all-natural ingredient: sun-dried sodium bentonite clay, harvested on our family-owned-and-operated ranch in Wyoming.
I received this as gift from my mom and that is the only reason I kept it. It’s not worth the money and is extremely messy and hard to fill with litter. I do not use the brand of litter that goes with the robot; I’ve continued to use the brand I’ve always used because I wanted a smooth transition for my cats which did not happen no matter which techniques I tried to get them all acclimated to the new box.
I guess because my litter comes in a box and not a bag that’s the problem with filing up the interior compartment. The litter piles up in a mound when it dumps in to the tray below and if you’re not careful when you pull the tray out to remove the liner, you’ll have litter falling all over the place making a huge mess.
I have four cats and only one that I know of uses it; the others continue to use the traditional litter box. I ended up moving the robot totally out of the room it was in because even with it in there, the other cats would ignore the normal litter box and mess on the floor.
I’ve tried numerous times to get the app set up and keep getting an error message when I scan the barcode that the serial number is invalid. Even before I pulled the traditional litter box back out, this robot did not really keep the odor down either.
I am extremely frustrated with this product and am more than likely going to put it out for the trash before long. I’d recommend to anyone who is considering buying it to save your money and keep using a traditional litter box because you are not gaining anything other than not having to physically sift the litter.
Buy yourself a good old fashioned plastic litter box that has a sifting tray between two pans and has a hood for privacy for your cats and to help eliminate odors.
Reading the reviews, it seems everyone’s experience is different. That said, I’ve had my Litter Robot for over a year, but it took me until four months ago to finally try their Premium Cat Litter. TL;DR = Tracking control is great.
Odor control and high price cost it two stars. Full review below! We went through about 4 different brands, but had issues with everything. Kitties would track it all over the house (and into bed), dust would confuse the LR sensors, the weight of various brands would anger the rotation of the cleaning cycle.
Finally one day I just broke down and bought one bag. Immediately, I noticed a 90% reduction in tracking litter. No joke, I used to have to vacuum in front of the robot every other day from clumps they’d drag out.
Now I can go a week or longer without even thinking about it. Even walking barefoot around the LR is doable now, thanks to this litter. Where it fails us a bit is odor control having 3 cats. Our first two bags were great, but we had them mixed a little with a previous brand containing charcoal — but the odor wasn’t bad unless the bin was full.
Now that we’ve fully switched to the LR Premium litter, we find that it can get pretty stinky, pretty fast. It only takes a day or two for it to make going in the room unbearable (our cats average 7.
5 cycles a day according to the app). We also keep two regular boxes off to the side to mitigate territory wars and fighting, so perhaps the LR litter isn’t designed for traditional boxes when it comes to controlling the smell.
(We barely have room for one LR, so a second one is out of the question. ) Despite the price, we’re sticking with it (for now). $50 + shipping each month for two bags is steep compared to our old options, but the minimal tracking has been the main love for us.
I also find the bag to be awkward to pour while trying to measure and not make a mess. I love the minimal packaging, but feel there’s a better way to get it from the bag to the bin. If you’ve never tried it, I do recommend you try it.
I love the litter robot. But it’s not without a flaws. I seem to have to reset it More often than I thought I would for an almost $800 purchase. I bought one for my mother-in-law and I’m not sure if she would continually turn the machine off and On to get it to work.
But this is a review about the litter. The litter robot litter works good but others work better. But none were excellent. Litters seem to stick to the bottom and or the side. No matter white cat litter I use.
I’m experimenting with some different sprays to keep the litter from sticking to the side in the bottom. Most litters say we need at least 2 inches of depth beforenthe litter can work probably but my cats seem to Pee on the side of the bowl and not the center.
I use your brush at least once a day to get the sticky waist off the sides. If there was a spray or a product that can Be used, let me know I will buy it. right now arm and hammer slide seems to be the best litter for the Litter robot for me but it’s not perfect.
Newly improved! Naturally Fresh Walnut-Based Multi-Cat Quick-Clumping Cat Litter now eliminates BOTH Urine and Fecal smells, is free of harsh perfumes, and creates tight clumps quickly, making scooping a breeze.
As with all Naturally Fresh formulas, it absorbs three times better than clay litter, is low tracking, free of silica dust, and is biodegradable and annually renewable. It’s non-GMO and nontoxic safe for pet parents, cat kids, and the environment.
Available in 14 and 26 pound bags, the product boasts Naturally Fresh’s signature soft walnut shell granules.
I love the Breeze system. After years of misery and somuchmoneyspent with all other gross litter systems that I tried, it’s the best. And now I think I may have found the best possible litter for the Breeze in my 3-cat household.
Pros: The walnut pellets are perfectly sized to use for the Breeze scoop. The odor control is a bit better for these than the Breeze pellets. My 3 kitties (ages 1. 5-ish, 7 months-ish, and baby-ish) all adjusted smoothly without complaint and they actually seem to enjoy this litter.
They don’t get stuck in the Breeze grates like the Breeze pellets can sometimes do if they break. The pellets allow the urine to go through the grates effectively to the Breeze pads below and don’t seem to hold urine odors.
They don’t really break down like pine pellets– there’s just a fine sheen of dust on the pee pads when I change those, which is no biggie. There is no dust near my boxes, so the litter seems quite good for respiratory systems– mine and the cats.
The walnut pellets don’t track– just toss the occasional stray pellet back into the box and you’re good to go. And they’re wayyyy cheaper than the Breeze pellets, so it’s nice to be able to fill the box up more, which is nice for the cats for digging purposes as well as odor control for feces.
I also found this litter to be friendlier for diarrhea than the Breeze pellets, which would kind of get ruined by diarrhea. Because I have to tell you, my cats do love to get diarrhea and ruin a nice freshly changed box.
Don’t worry, the vet and I are working on it. Cons: No serious gripes at all. I guess the dark color does make the feces a little harder to locate, but come on. If you have an extra 5 seconds to sift through the litter and look for lumps a few times per day that’s more than enough.
I bought the SoPhresh XL sifting litter box to use this litter because it is best used as a sifting litter. I’ve watched lots of YouTube reviews on this particular litter and that is the consensus. It does clump but takes a little longer to firm up.
It does sometimes get stuck in the slots of the sifting ban but it’s an easy fix if you use a litter spade and not a square litter scoop. A litter spade is just a scoop shaped like a gardening spade – it pokes the litter right thru.
Also you’ll want to make sure you pour more into the litterbox to avoid litter clumping beneath the sifting pan. I can say though when that happens i just pat the bottom of the pan and it pops right off – it’s extremely non-stick which is nice.
I do sift twice when I clean the litter boxes and I love how easy it is to just wipe it clean. I started using this litter with two other litter boxes that were smelly and needed to be washed and once I set the Naturally Fresh litter out with the other boxes it eliminated ALL the odors from the the old clay litter without me even scooping or cleaning those boxes first!!! I have since bought another new sifting box and bag of this litter.
I do still give my cats the option to use the clay litter just to give them transition time. There is minimal dust when sifting. They do kick it out of the litter box but I just bought a giant $12 indoor/outdoor rug that brown so you can see it and then just vacuum whenever I sift.
Normally I use the grass litter available through Chewy and have been very happy with the product. But with all the supply chain concerns, I wanted to see if there was an alternative out there which could be substituted should my favorite litter not be available.
This walnut litter looked promising. Some things we didn’t like right away is how difficult it is to see the clumped litter and other deposits as the litter is dark. Both my husband and I are over 50 and our eyes need all the help they can get.
So, we just turned a light on when cleaning the litter boxes. What was a dealbreaker was the amount of dust this product created. I was surprised as it is a slightly heavier litter than the grass litter, but the finer particles made a plume of dust when we added more to the litter boxes where as our other litter does not create dust.
The product clumps and it is a great use of something (walnut hulls) that would be otherwise thrown away, so I love the idea and concept. This just isn’t a product we will want to use in the future.

Let me start by saying, I have a rather disgusting story, but this product almost made me cry within 5 minutes of my introduction to my cat (Romeo). So for whatever reason, probably about 2 years ago, Romeo totally stopped using his liter box.
He would pee and poop in the tub or he would pee on the floor beside the liter box and poop in the tub. He has peed inside of my HVAC vent that is on the floor in the bathroom and just 2 days ago he peed in the livingroom right in front of the TV.
I was at my wits end. I had considered the unthinkable for my kitty of almost 12 years (having him put down) because he was ruining my home and I had tried everything, water in the tub, changing litter, changing boxes, changing location of the box ….
etc. I cried and cried not knowing what else I could do. Well, I researched yesterday to find other options to correct what he was doing in an effort to not have him put down(I knew I couldn’t rehome him because he wouldn’t use a liter box).
Well let me tell you…. this stuff is nothing short of a miracle!!! I picked up my kitty and carried him into the bathroom, I let him watch me set up his NEW liter box then he watched me pour in the NEW WORLDS BEST liter.
He was clawing to get out of the bathroom, I coaxed him to come near me and the liter box, eventually he came to me and began sniffing the box, then he began sniffing the liter inside, next thing I knew he got in the liter box, sniffed around and took a poop then proceeded to cover it up and hopped out!!!! I started yelling “He pooped in the liter box!!!” I picked him up and loved on him and praised him.
I started crying… my kitty is gonna stay here and I get to love him for many years to come!! FYI my kitty is a large kitty, so I purchased him an extra large liter box ( he is a Norwegian Forest Cat) and no my yelling didn’t scare him as he was born def.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to World’s Best Cat Liter for saving my kitty!!.
if I could give this 4 1/2 stars I would. I absolutely can NOT STAND the scent of traditional clay litter, especially once it’s been used. I used to loathe scooping the litter box because of the smell which would only make it worse when I finally had to scoop it, and I’m sure my baby nico hated it as well.
my roommate uses this litter for their cat and highly recommended it, and when I finally ran out of the A&H litter we were using, I decided to try it out. I’m SO glad I did. the texture is pretty similar to traditional litter but the scent of the litter by itself is very minimal, I don’t have the nasty dust flying up in my face when I top the box off (there is a little bit but not nearly as much as with clay ones) AND I can just flush the waste down the toilet?? it’s incredible.
while I don’t personally smell anything when my boy pees on it, I will say it essentially does nothing for concealing solid waste smells. but I hardly care about that when I can now just take the litter box to the bathroom and flush his bombs down the toilet instead of having to put them in a single use plastic bag and then walk them all the way to the dumpster.
there’s also usually litter on the floor around the box after a few days, but I think my boy is just messy lol. bottom line, there are some cons to this litter but if you’re like me and hate the scent of traditional cat litter, they are easily outweighed by the fact that you can flush the litter and that the litter box won’t smell like a litter box.
I really wanted to love this litter. But it’s awful. Full disclosure, I bought it bc it came with a promotional free bag of cat food. I didn’t realize it was corn. At first I was delighted because it was rather lightweight, you do indeed use less volume wise than other litters, it was completely dust free and smelled so nice.
Couple that with its biodegradable feature and that it’s easy on furr babies’ respiratory systems, and it could have been perfect. But then, my cats started to use it. The clumping is very poor (even mixed with other clay clumping litter,) and you have to be very careful scooping it out or it will disintegrate back into your clean litter and this a bad feature bc its odor control is non existent.
In fact imo, it amplifies the ammonia smell or urine. So unless you use it in a litter box that’s outside or in a well ventilated area the smell is awful. My house smelled like wet saw dust, sauerkraut mixed with urine for days.
I will never buy this again. When I get a hankering for trying a litter that’s on sale- I need to remind myself of the brands that I do indeed love best (chewy’s Frisco, Scoop Away and Arm and Hammer’s clumping varieties,) before I choose the cheap stuff.

Tips for a Happy and Healthy Cat Recommended by rat behaviorists. Best size litter boxes. From nose to base of tail 1.5x. 1-1/2 times the length of cat, from nose to base of tall. As cats get bigger, so should boxes. Kittens need low-sided boxes for easy access. Fresh Step Litter Instructions: (1) Fill your clean litter box with 3-4 inches of Fresh Step litter. (2) Litter quickly forms a clump around liquid waste. Remove clumps and solids daily, and dispose of in trash. Do not flush. (3) Add more Fresh Step clumping cat litter to refresh your litter box. Maintain level of litter at 3-4 inches. Push in tab to tear open. Pull out tab to pour.
Caution: Do not use this product as a traction aid, because product becomes slippery and slick when wet. Pet, People & Planet Friendly — A naturally safe litter made from whole-kernel corn that offers no harmful chemicals and no artificial perfumes.
I started fostering cats this year and have 6 kitties in my home. They do what kitties do and it’s a lot to clean up daily, so I am always looking for products that will help keep things more tidy. My preferred litter is the GREEN unscented type of World’s Best and this new orange litter was offered as a gwp of Orijen 12-lb food.
(Thank you!) At first the most noticeable difference is that the orange litter grains are 2-3x as large. I suppose their logic is that larger grains are heavier and less likely to get stuck on paws, but as anyone who’s stepped on a Lego knows, that’s not true, it just hurts more.
The litter in my post-surgery kitty’s crate has spread both in the 1-inch space between boxes and surrounding 1-ft radius outside the crate. For an animal that does not leave the crate, who is remarkably slow and deliberate when moving/digging, this spread is disappointingly unexpected.
Litter scent has a citrusy tinge after cats have peed, seemingly exacerbating pee odor, however more successful at masking poo odor. I agree with others that the clumping should be better. There is also a lot of pee-odor dust left in the box after scooping, a common flaw I’ve encountered in large-grain litters.
Reliably zero dust in the air as I pour new litter from the bag into the box, the reason I love World’s Best. When I click to Add Photo, it doesn’t show that pics are posted, so maybe I’ll try again later.
Overall I will not buy this orange litter, but I’d still use this instead of clay-based litter.
I am *always* on the hunt for a better cat litter, I mean ALWAYS. In the 16 years I have had my wonderful feline companion, I have shuffled between a dozen different brands, and lines within these brands, and can say with full confidence that I have yet to find one that truly made both me and my cat happy.
Now that my cat has entered his elderly years, he’s more likely to use the litter box without covering his waste and so it’s really important to have a brand that he’s not holding a grudge against. This littler, despite making some promising appeals on the packaging, is not that brand.
As I mentioned before, my cat is on the older side and he does not like pushing around things unless they contain catnip. This litter comes in larger chunks and weights considerably more than the lightweight options we generally go with.
The ‘quick clumping’ claim doesn’t work so well when the waste just sits on top of it. It was also harder to clean out since the chunks of unused litter didn’t quite filter through my current litter box shovel, which isn’t a problem for smaller grained solutions.
With no scent, there also wasn’t much odor control so now that I’m back in the office, I come home to a less appealing apartment at the end of the day. The one thing this litter has going for it is that because it’s too heavy for my cat’s liking, it stays put in the little box and therefore produces very little dust.
Otherwise, I can’t say that I cared much for it (which is a shame since there was a $5 off coupon attached to the bag) and will be sticking with a more fragrant, lightweight option in the future.
I have 13 cats, don’t judge, lol. I have rescued many strays over the years and recently a pregnant mama who gifted me 3 kittens. So it’s fair to say I go through enormous amounts of litter! I have tried every brand under the sun.
I also have two cats with serious respiratory issues so low dust is very important. When I was selected to receive this sample I was intrigued, but very skeptical. Having only ever been devoted to traditional non-clumping clay litter, I didn’t know what to make of this brand.
I decided to use it for the litter box that my respiratory compromised kitties use. I notice right away that there was little to no dust at all. The litter clumped quickly and solidified the urine really well.
I also notice that a lot less of the litter ended up outside the box as well. I had 4 cats using this box and I had to only change it once during the week. Which is awesome, as I usually change it every other day with the traditional clay litter.
I also was able to use a lot less, compared to the non-clumping traditional litter. It did well with odor control but make sure you scoop all of the clumps completely to avoid any residual urine smell, as this litter is not scented.
I am going to try to keep using this brand for my respiratory compromised cats because it’s truly dust free, but for the other boxes which have up to 9 users a day, I will most likely stay with clay for cost effectiveness.
In general, most picky cats prefer a litter that is soft and absorbent, with little to no scent. Some of the more popular brands of cat litter that meet these criteria include World’s Best Cat Litter and Feline Pine.
