20 Best Cat Litter For Asthmatic Cats (2022 Updated)

This is a very dusty cat litter, and it clumps up so much that it sticks to the bottom of the litter box. My cats will use this litter, but it has to be changed daily – not just scooped daily. Other brands we are able to change out every 3 days/2 times weekly, but this must be changed daily otherwise it will stick badly, and the odor control is nonexistent.

Fine if you are short on cash and just need to get by for a few days until you can buy a better working brand, but it is not my first choice.

Firstly. WHY so much plastic? It takes up not even half the jug it comes in. And yes it is lighter litter? But TOO light. But has it’s good, AND bad I’m afraid. I have a love hate relationship going on with this (new to me) litter I’ve tried.

First off, the clean up/scooping is flawless. I save half the time scooping. And is great for hiding smells. That is the good stuff. The bad? It is TOO light. My cat is getting it EVERYWHERE around the apartment.

In her(Lily 3yo) fur, nails, paw beds. She even has it on mmy bed, it’s always on my feet. It really isn’t with the hassle. Maybe it’s just MY cat? I have never had a cat litter that she did this with.

But this is also my first time using a “lighter ” litter. So who knows?. And she is quite the clean cat. I so wanted to keep using this. But after a week. I can’t. I have no vacuum! ☺️.

Needed to buy cat litter just prior to camping. The store had only one jug of my favorite Cat’s Pride Fresh and Light Fragrance Free, and one of this clearly-labeled “New and Improved” Hypoallergenic Fresh and Light.

It was a dollar more, which I questioned, but I needed two jugs (one for home, one for camper). When we arrived at the campground, I opened this new and improved jug and began to pour. I immediately thought something was wrong.

This was like fine beach sand and the DUST was out of control. My first scoop with this new and improved litter was just horrifying. There were no clumps, only urine strips and it filtered all the way down to the bottom of the litter pan and left a huge amount of unscoopable crumbs.

NOT good! It also tracks horribly. There was over 25 feet between the box and our sleeping bags and by the second day there was a fair amount of litter on top of our sleeping bags. I love the Cat’s Pride Fresh and Light Fragrance Free and will continue to purchase and use that particular type of litter, as well as recommend it.

Huge thumbs down to this particular version of the Cat’s Pride Fresh and Light litter, however.

i’ve been on a quest for a low-dust, low-track litter for years and years. i recall swheat scoop turning into cement. can’t remember why corn was a bust. pine pellets came close, but sifting is such a pain, and reviews for clumping pine/wood litters are so poor i hesitate to bother trying them.

different combos of clay litters mixed together made them semi-tolerable, but i still wanted something non-clay. i had irrationally high hopes for this grass litter, and initially it seemed pretty good — lightweight, mild natural scent, virtually no dust, and upon use seemed to clump quite well.

HOWEVER. this litter is so light and airy that it flies/floats/sticks/tracks EVERYWHERE (including up onto the cats’ backs and heads). i mean, i have four types (no joke) of xl tracking mats in front of and leading away from two litter boxes — a wide runway that’s over 10′ long — and yet this litter was still promptly tracked beyond the runway to the far corners of the house, trails of light-colored bits leading from the litter room through the kitchen and living room and down the hall and right up to my bed.

it’s absolutely bonkers. i clean the boxes daily and am used to sweeping near them a couple of times a day, but to keep up with these grass bits i’d have to sweep a dozen times a day or more, literally after every single trip by either cat.

i’ve already devoted a good amount of my living space to the litter boxes, but trying to keep this litter off floors that are nowhere near the boxes seems like it would be a full-time job. very disappointing, as i think otherwise this litter could have been the answer, i just can’t deal with seeing these little bits everywhere triggering my ocd.

i wish i could make it work.

Switched from “Pretty Litter” to this two months ago. Thought it was going to work out great and loved the biodegradable quality. I scoop all 4 boxes at least once a day (sometimes twice) which is not a problem, but the tracking and now the dust is especially since I think it is related to bladder issues caused by grooming all the dust off their legs & paws.

The dust might be controlled IF I replace all the litter in each pan once a week, but that becomes extremely costly with four pans to maintain (household of 3 cats). Not sure this will resolve the tracking issue though.

As far as odor, I have none but that’s not the litter’s responsibility, that’s the human’s. I flush the toilet every time I use it and clean the bowls once a week, the same should be afforded my cats’ toilets.

That’s the way to control odors. Would LOVE a recommendation for a NON-silica containing, truly minimal/no dust producing litter. Horse bedding pellets worked fine until we brought in a new cat who refused to use them and once the other two had a different (softer, sandy option) they wouldn’t either.

My cat has asthma and I was looking for a dust-free alternative to our usual clumping, scented, clay litter. I opted for this because it’s biodegradable + natural, unscented, and reportedly low-dust, so it seems about as asthma-friendly as you can get — and it is! I didn’t find it tracks much more than my last litter (clay).

Nonetheless, I mixed it with walnut-shell litter based off a YouTuber’s tip, since walnut is less tracking (but more dusty), and now I have a litter that combines the best of both worlds. It doesn’t cover up the smell, of course, but for that I use a natural deodorizer, and I recommend that, especially as an alternative to harsh chemical-scented litter.

It clumps well — better than I was expecting, actually, though of course not as much as clay, but that’s alright. Walnut-shell clumps very effectively, so mixing the two has created a perfect litter for me.

I would say the only con is the price, but hey, you get what you pay for.

I’ve had cats and kittens my entire life and tried my fair share of litter. When I tell you this is the BEST litter I’ve ever used, by far, it’s really telling of the quality of this product. I smell NO urine at all! When my kitten goes number 2 I scoop it out and flush it down the toilet, haven’t had any issues with clogs.

Not a single pellet has tracked outside of the kitty box. When the pellets are used up they turn into a dust like material, which doesn’t cause any dust or tracker either. When all pellets are used up you are left with an eco friendly dust that you can dump outside, to compost or even the garbage without needing to place an extra garbage tag due to the weight as with traditional clay litters.

The low price is a bonus. This 20 lb bag is 10x better than the other litters, costs less and lasts longer. I have nothing negative to say.

I love this pellet litter! Back in college (15 years ago), I came across this when shopping for my cat’s litter & food supplies. When I saw this, I thought I’d give it a try and I am so glad I did. then they stopped selling it in store & I had to buy Tidy Cats 24/7 clumping clay litter.

I HIGHLY recommend the litter, but most definitely not from this site considering it is over 3 times the price on here than at Walmart ($7. 86/20 lb bag)!!! My kitty adjusted just fine. For a couple years, I could not find in store (and had no idea I could just order online).

It is now thankfully always in stock at my local Walmart for $7. 86 for a 20 lb bag when the price on here is $28. 99 (PLUS you have to pay shipping if you don’t hit the “$49+” for free shipping). all you kitty lovers of this litter, SAVE yourself literally over 1/3 the price by purchasing in store at Walmart or online.

I have NO idea how they get away with pricing it over 3 times the price you can pay for it at other stores?! In regards to the litter, you won’t be disappointed. Amazing odor control BUT my absolute love for it, is it’s amazing “track-less” ability.

It does NOT track all over the place like normal clay litters do. IF a pellet does happen to come out of the litter box, you literally came toss right back into the box or toss! Your kitty will thank you as well because they love their box to be nice & clean.

Great for our cats health and ours AND the environment! Works very well with order control. DOESN’T clump up in my cats paws that’s a big deal because not only is she not tracking it around my house but also she isnt having to ingest it from cleaning her paws.

I find with your average name brand litters cause alot of constipation for cats during to cleaning of their paws. I have been using Fresh Pine for many years now, I will never go back to normal litter again.

5 star product forsure and there not paying me to say this. I wish more stores carried this product so more people were aware of what a great product it is. My husband is NOT a cat person but inherited one when we got together, his biggest problem had always been that he doesn’t want the house to smell like a little box.

“well duh who does” I found Feline Fesh Pine Cat Litter and we haven’t fought about the smell of my cats litter box since. His problem was that if my cat hadn’t even used the box the house still had the smell of cat litter.

First of all this litter does the main thing I want it to do, which is to not track. The only time there is substantial litter off the mat or out of the box is if my cat gets scared/excited and runs out.

Also the option to flush this litter is awesome, I haven’t had any issues for the 3 weeks I’ve been using it other then needing to flush twice a couple times. However there are some major drawbacks to this litter, first of all it has a particular odor, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad smell, but it isn’t a good one.

Which leads me to it’s ability to cover up smells, or lack of in this case. If my cat poops depending on the size of the movement, I have to empty the litter box to not get overwhelmed (the litterbox is in the bathroom attached to my room) as the two smells fight each other.

This is also a very dusty litter, my solid black cat comes out with tan paws every time he uses the litter box. The last thing I would like to mention is my cat seems to like to occasionally take a couple nibbles of this litter, as it’s made of corn and breaks a part if ample water is applied to it (the flushable feature) I haven’t really tried that hard to stop him and it hasn’t seemed to bug him, but it is worth mentioning.

The last negative I will say is it’s price and claim that it lasts twice as long as other litters, I got an 8 pound bag and have just dumped the last of it in the litter box right around the 3 week mark which I expect to last a little over a week as it was a small amount mixed with the old litter.

To summarize it does do what I want it to do but it has far too many draw backs for me to justify spending double of what regular litter cost to purchase this specific brand.

This really is the world’s Best cat litter! I’ve tried so many different types to replace the dirty, dusty, tacking clay litter I started with when I got my first cat. I’ve tried various paper pellets, wood pellets, silica beads and others including this one.

There are pros and cons to them all but I really liked the crystal beads but I developed asthma from the silica dust. So next best type for me was this World’s Best crushed corn husk litter. It clumps so it’s easy to clean.

There is one for multi-cats which I’m assuming clumps even better. It’s natural and theres even a lavender scented one but I discovered my cat hates anything lavender so it’s the plain one for us lol.

The clumps are flushable, provided you make sure to let the granules soak a few minutes and expand fully before flushing away. It’s not dusty and doesn’t track like the clay or sand litters. It doesn’t absorb odors like some of the pellet products.

You only need a few inches in your litter box so even though it costs a bit more, it last a lot longer. provided you scoop your litter regularly to keep the litter as clean as possible. And since it doesn’t stick to my cat’s paws, she doesn’t lick and ingest it like the clay litters.

And if she does ingest a little, it’s ok since it’s corn, not clay or silica. This was originally recommended to me by someone at a rescue organization and now I recommend this brand to everyone I know.

I was at a friend’s house and she had an extra bag of Pretty Litter and I needed to buy a bag(I typically use clay litter. ) My friend was going on about your product and how it was the ultimate cat litter; I thought she was exaggerating! I used Pretty Litter and was astonished that it did everything it promised.

No longer did my bathroom smell from cat urine and feces, no longer was it a up hill battle to clean the box with out having clay litter soaked in urine all over the place. I was astonished with the efficiency and efficacy of Pretty Litter, that I vowed NEVER TO PURCHASE CLUMPING CLAY LITTER AGAIN! People may be hesitant about the price, but , it is worth every penny!! Smell☹️ Bought this because I had been using Pretty Litter which I LOVED for two years. However the dust after 3 mo was on everything in laundry room, folding table, all my crafting, so I stopped because of it and the fact cat kept sneezing.

Looked online for hours trying to find a TOTALLY dust free litter that also clumped well. These that say 99. 9% dust free, well after months, that 1% of dust REALLY adds up. I have NEVER, EVER had a problem with litter box odor.

However, after using this for about 4 days, I noticed this funky smell all thru my house similar to vomit, old urine, or just plain nasty. Whenever my cat came to, sit with me on the recliner, I noticed it more.

I just had brought her back from the groomers, and her fur smelled nice, it was soft, but there was something about her that just wasn’t right. At first I thought the smell was coming from my skin pores because I had started taking an all natural Vegetable vitamin, so I threw the bottle out and stopped.

When she got down from the chair, I still smelled this smell, and it was coming from the blanket she lays on and walks on. After 2 more days of continuing to smell this odor ALL thru my house except the back areas that were far away from the litter box, I thought OMG, it’s this new litter.

So here I am after reading so……… many reviews about the awful smell people were noticing that I’m smelling as I type this, it’s got to be the litter. I hate to throw it out. I bought 2 14 lb boxes of it because I was so thrilled to see that it was totally dustless.

I have no other complaints about the clumping, as some people stated, it worked fine for me, and is very soft, as my cat loves stepping and scratching in soft litter compared to others we have tried that’s like tiny pebbles.

So my search begins all over due to the fact I cannot and will not continue to smell this horrible smell thru my house. as I was washing clothes today in the laundry room where my cats litter box is, I totally realized the smell is from it.

This was easily one of our favorite litters. Low, low dust, litter is confined to a limited area outside the litter box and mat and little to no scent. We changed to two other litters this year when it seemed like the texture of the litter changed.

We noticed the different color of the litter from the past litter boxes and it “seemed” to clump. A month or so later, we determined it was one of our cats that was tracking it all over because he was losing his vision and not the litter.

We will be going back to the Platinum Cloud Control. It works and is relatively clean. Negatives, the box is heavy and needs to ship separately from other items because it crushes whatever its shipped with.

Also, you need a chain saw to cut the box down for trash days.

I’ve been using another brand of litter (Tidycats) for ages but their current product is very dusty. I hate cleaning and decided that I needed something better. I did some on-line research and found the 100% dust free A&H Cloud Control claim and decided to give it a try.

It’s a huge improvement! I see no dust at all when I’m cleaning the litter boxes or when the cats are using them. In addition, there’s only a tiny amount of litter tracked out of the boxes, which is also a major improvement (and I have to clean even less now).

Finally, the “litter box smell” is much, much less. The only negative is the scent – I don’t care for it. But this gripe is very minor because the scent is very subtle. As long as the product performs, I can live with it.

Bottom line – I love this stuff and highly recommend it.

) price but other brands by the pound (48 cents, like the C. P. brand) but when you multiply 16 oz. in a pound, the difference is about 5 cents/lb. $. 03 x 16 oz. = $0. 48/lb. and $. 05 x 16 oz. = $0.

80/lb. Comparatively, WalMart’s brand may be more expensive per pound, and that’s after they undercut the price when they bought it wholesale from the company labeling it the Special Kitty brand. WM’s website is full of inconsistencies and transparently misleading details like this.

Which is a shame because WM is already one of the richest corporations in the world, but they nickel and dime their customers to skim off even more cash. BTW, there was an “error” when I tried to submit this review, and I expect this review will be removed to hide the above facts.

on the container is claims to be 99% dust free. if that is 99% dust free i would hate to see what it would be like without the 99% removed, it would turn my house into a desert dust storm. i use a spare room for the litter box and for storage and after dumping that into the litter box there was a heavy layer of dust on everything around it.

if shouldnt make claims that arent even a little true. its the dustiest litter ive ever used. i usually use arm and hammer litter or tidy cat which are abiout 3 to 5 dollars more, ill be returning to that.

if you have allergy problems or just simply do not want a dust bowl storm in your house i wouldnt recommend. it may seem. im exaggerating but trust me my eyes are still burning. i never write reviews but felt the need to see other ppls opinions and leave mine.

it clumps well and smells great so if you have a litter box on a pourch or somewhere not in your living area, i would recommend. but for in house/living space i would hard pass.

This litter claims to be 99% dust free but it’s nothing but dust. We’ve used this litter for years and the last few boxes have been so dusty you can taste it in the air after pouring any or after the cat uses the box.

You can literally see the dust cloud when you pour some in the box. I bought Dr. Elsey’s brand to try out something new and when I poured it there was ZERO dust. I can’t believe the difference. My cat was just diagnosed with asthma and I feel like part of the issue is this terrible litter.

I don’t understand how it can make the claim “99% dust free” when it’s a complete lie. It also tracks EVERYWHERE. Loyal customer for years but the quality has went so downhill I won’t ever buy Special Kitty litter again.

It’s a value, but at what price? Certainly not my cat’s health.

Dr. Elsey’s unscented clumping cat litter is a very good product. It clumps well, has little dust, and is a great dollar value. The thing I like best is how well this unscented litter keeps the odors from litter box use in check does it so much better than any scented or other unscented cat litter I’ve ever used.

I’ve had cats for over 50 years and every brand of scented cat litter I’ve ever tried was so nauseatingly scented and disgustingly strong it could make you sick. And scented litter does nothing to control odor, all it does is add a disgusting scent to the cats urine and feces scent resulting in a putrid smell.

With Dr. Elsey’s unscented litter there’s virtually no smell at all. No dust and no perfume smell is definitely healthier for my cats. The one and only thing I don’t like is the packaging. It comes so tightly packed in a thin, but strong plastic bag that is very difficult to handle.

The moment you cut an opening, even a small opening, into the bag to get some cat litter out it’s a physical struggle to keep the bag from flopping over spilling the litter all over you and the floor.

It just wants to tip over no matter how you hold it. I’ve been transferring it to a hard plastic container for daily use but that transfer always results in litter being spilled and a sore back from fighting for a good ten minutes to keep it all from spilling onto me and my floor instead of into a container I can actually manage.

If they could package the litter better, me and my sore back would truly appreciate it. The fact that even though I know I’m going to have a struggle and a sore back for a few days each time I buy another bag, but still buy it should tell you just how good the product inside those awful plastic bags is.

I recently bought this after looking at many reviews in search of a more inexpensive litter that offers larger sizes after I recently adopted another cat – making that two cats total in my small apartment.

My favorite thing is the low tracking – I mean it’s incredible how low it tracks after my cats get off the mat outside their litter box. It’s clumps pretty well – there is always one or two clumps that slightly stick but they come off incredibly easy with barely any effort at all, so another great perk.

The biggest issues I have is the odor control. When one of my cats use their litter box – the scent of their scat is intense and rife through the apartment. They both bury their feces as deep as they can right away so it’s not like it’s just sitting there.

But after burying – it reeks so bad it’s like the litter intensified the smell and it LASTS – the litter almost acts as one of those wall plugs – making sure the scent lasts longer and really gives a large scent throw like an incredibly good quality candle but a candle that smells somehow worse than usual cat fecal matter.

It’s horrible. After an hour or two the scent finally stops and for the first three days when the scent is no longer intensified it’s pretty decent. But by the fourth day, after freshly scooping the litter – there is a certain scent to it that lingers.

The litter box smells awful constantly and the scent sneaks it’s way into corners of my apartment, leading me to change the entire litter box more often than I’ve ever had to with any other brand. Scooping simply does not suffice for long at all, leaving me to ordering more litter more often.

I don’t know how to describe this odor. It’s just awful. And is everywhere, even after changing the litter it lingers for a day. It’s horrific. So now I’m in search of a new unscented litter for my two cats.

So this is the first litter I have used as I have just recently adopted a cat. I purchased this brand after reading several reviews and suggestions, the general consensus seemed to be that clay litter was the best overall so I decided to give that a try seeing as it’s the “standard” for cat litter.

Dr. Elsey’s seemed to be a highly recommended brand and based on the “99. 9% dust free claim” I purchased without much hesitation. Overall this is a good litter as far as clumping/tracking is concerned.

I wanted a litter that was unscented and I understand that animal waste is not going to smell like roses, generally there is no lingering smell unless the litter box has been used within the last 10-15 minutes and I have mine in the mud room so I am not in range of the smell anyway.

If you want something that is going to trap the smell immediately I don’t think this will work well for you. However, I am disappointed in the amount of dust this litter creates. It kicks up quite a bit when I clean it and I imagine it does when my cat uses it as well.

My cat’s foster was using corn litter and since we adopted him (and he started using the clay litter) he seems to be sneezing a lot. His health is very important to me so I am obviously concerned. I’m not sure if there is a direct correlation but I think I will be switching to a different type of litter and seeing if the situation improves.

I would give it 3. 5 stars.

We used Dr Elsey’s Respiratory Relief for 6 or 7 years with great results. We recommended the product to other cat people. The formula & quality have changed. Reaching out to the company via official website resulted in no response.

The quality of product has not been consistent for the past 3-6 months. The last two bags (purchased in May 2022) have been of fine consistency, resulting in significant tracking, and do not absorb scent.

The litter box was emptied and sanitized on Monday. The box is scooped twice daily. It smelled so strongly by Tuesday evening that I went to the pet supply store on Wednesday to buy different litter and dumped the litter that had been used in a clean, sanitized box for 48 hours.

Very disappointing. Will not be purchasing this product in the future.

Dr. Elsey’s has changed the formula of the Respiratory Relief clay litter. This litter *used* to have larger particle sizes and was lighter in color. The large particle sizes helped with tracking. Now the litter is a dark gray color, very dusty, and the particle size is basically like sand, which tracks HORRIBLY.

Dr. Elsey’s actually tried making this same change about a year or so ago and got so many complaints that they returned to the original formula. Well, here we are – AGAIN – with them making that change for the worse, disguising it as “improved odor control.

” No, this is now a low-quality litter that I believe they’re trying to pass off as a premium litter (which it USED to be with the original formula). Don’t waste your time and money unless they go back to the original formula again.

I pay almost double what Dr. Elsey’s normal litter products cost for the Respiratory Relief because of the size of the large litter granules and low dust. I used Precious Cat for 15+ years before they changed it and it became much more dusty, with sand sized granules.

I thought Respiratory Relief was what I was looking for when I discovered it last year and started paying much more so I would be able to get the lower tracking, larger granules and it seemed almost dust free.

I bought 6 boxes of Respiratory Relief today and saw the sticker on the front that said “New and Improved Particle Size”. I was excited that they might have improved even more on the product. When I started to pour the box into my freshly cleaned litter box, I was in complete shock.

A massive dust cloud immediately exploded as the litter hit the box and the particle size is now more like powder and sand mixed together. I honestly feel like crying right now. For the amount that I pay for this cat litter, and to buy 6 boxes with this drastic change (FOR THE WORSE) to the formulation.

I don’t know what to say other than that I am in shock. Three of my cats have already jumped in to check out the new litter, and there are dusty tiny litter granules and dusty pawprints?! ALL over the floor already.

Within 30 minutes of using the new litter. Unbelievable. Such a waste of money. How Dr. Elsey’s could claim something this dusty and sandy is good for respiratory health is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars on their products over the years because I run a cat rescue and regularly foster cats and kittens, along with using it for my own cats.

But it’s really sad how much the quality of the products have changed over the past few years. I’m begging them to bring back the last formulation of the Respiratory Relief litter. If they don’t, I think this is the straw that will break the camel’s back for me.

This litter is really horrible! It smells just awful when my cat’s waste comes into contact with it. You may be thinking um duh. no. I’ve used other litters and they tend to neutralize the odor not compound it.

In fact, this litter gives off such a strong ammonia smell I could smell it on my cat’s fur. that’s horrible! but it also clumps really oddly in that most of the urine didn’t clump cohesively and it just broke apart when I was scooping it up.

that is not the definition of “tight”. I ended up throwing all of it out that was in my cat,s litter and I using paper pellets which. up until I tried this litter was my least favorite. I was actually concerned it may not even be healthy for my cat to be exposed to.

Therefore I’m going to try and get a refund for it and try something else. Be warned.

This litter is the worst I have ever used. Not because it doesn’t clump or any of that. I rescue stray cats and get them ready for homes been doing so for 40yrs. The smell of this litter is horrendous.

People have asked me over the yrs how I have no cat box smell in my house. I have tried to work with this litter in every way nothing stops to horrible smell. I can’t afford to go back to what I was using at this point I will find a way.

There is nothing worse to me than smelly bad cat box. I have emptied the cat box scrubbed it done it all. In no more than a few hours I smell it all the way upstairs. This cat litter is not worth it AT ALL! Believe me I wanted it to work but I have spent a great deal more on spray’s, powders, etc to stop the smell.

I have bought this 3 times now I have given it a good test I will never buy it again.

I tried this, in very beginning thought might have stumbled on something great. Little did I know the storm was brewing and about to cause horrible damage. Because this was so bad at controlling odor, my cat (who never did anything like this before at all) started brazenly peeing on our clothes, pee on the bed right in front of us.

Trying to make a point. Eventually we figured out after some reading about the behavior that it likely had to do with litter box issues. Though we couldn’t smell anything, apparently she could. Mind you we scoop her box more than once a day as well.

We switched back to the old litter brand, and the behavior stopped. It does not work! Do not use it! If giving zero stars was an option, it would be zero stars. I actually felt bad because at first it did seem like was game changer, so I recommended to someone else.

They said it was horrible for them as well. They actually had issues with odor control all around. They had more than one cat, used proper type, but said the odor was so bad after short time couldn’t take it.

I felt so bad for recommending it prematurely! If you’re looking for a new brand, skip this one. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is. With everything this promises, it’s too good to be true.

The only downfall of this product is the packaging. The 40lb bag of litter comes in a plastic bag that can’t be re-sealed and is hard to pour litter in to the litter box especially at first use because it is a heavy bag but could also would be nice if the included a scoop in bag to scoop and pour the fresh litter into my litter boxes.

Few thoughts on ways to improve packaging of the product: 1. Update product packaging from a heavy duty plastic to a pale that has a handle for easy lifting and carrying. Also, with a lid that is easy to open and can be closed and sealed to keep litter fresh.

If a scoop was included to pour new litter into boxes that would be a great addition. 2. Another type of bag to make carrying the heavy bag to the rooms where litter boxes are, maybe a bag with handle somewhere on it? Update the bag so opening and resealing to retain freshness would really improve the quality of the litter packaging.

Again, including a scoop in the bag (or pale) to pour fresh litter into the litter boxes would be nice to have. However, I do love this litter, it is by far the best clumping litter I have ever used and makes scooping my litter boxes way easier than other brands of clumping litter I have tried.

BUT. a few simple changes to the packaging and this product would be 5 stars! Hopefully, I will see some changes with my next purchase of this product. :).

All of the bad reviews on this litter are people complaining that this NON CLUMPING litter. doesn’t clump. ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO CLUMP THE PEE, THATS THE WHOLE POINT! it even says that on the product description! It absorbs it but doesn’t clump it.

Clumping litters have been known to cause intestinal blockages in cats because anything wet makes it clump, so when they clean the litter from their paws, it can get into their little digestive tracts and really mess them up and potentially kill them.

Seriously, look it up. Anyway, just came here to say that literally every single person on here who complained that this litter doesn’t clump clearly doesn’t understand what *non clumping* means. Seems pretty cut and dry to me, but I guess a lot of people don’t understand the meaning.

As for my actual review of the litter, it’s great, it does make a bit of a mess around the box, but that’s a small price to pay to sleep easy knowing that my cats litter isn’t going to potentially kill them.

Also, there are some great mats that you can put under or next to your litter box that act like litter magnets and fix that mess around the box problem all together. I hope all of you consider switching to non clumping litter, even if it’s not specifically this one.

I have multiple cats, and I ALSO have severe allergies and have a really heightened sense of smell. I have tried every litter out there, and found one I really liked, but it was discontinued, so the search was on for an affordable litter that was low dust and one that didn’t have a strong perfume smell.

I have always used the clumping litter, thinking it wouldn’t smell as bad, PLUS, it says on the bag that it’s “low dust”, but the smell was AWFUL, and dust would fill the air each time it was used, and made it hard for me to breathe, even when I was in another room.

I could ALWAYS tell when the litter box was being used by the dusty smell that covered the ENTIRE house. THEN, I tried Tidy cats SCENTED, NON clumping litter, and I LOVE it! I NEVER smell the litter box now, and dust doesn’t fill the air whenever my cats use the litter box, and even though it is “scented”, I don’t smell a perfume smell, and for someone with a REALLY powerful sense of smell, THAT is a blessing! And, it’s AFFORDABLE, which REALLY helps an old lady who lives on a budget, and having it shipped straight to me home keeps me from having to struggle with dragging those heavy bags home from the store.

I am a tidy cat fan all the way! I LOVE this product!.

I used off brand non clumping years ago and it was awful! I bought this as a last resort because the previous clumping litter I bought I developed a severe allergic reaction to. I thought my cats would hate it because I’ve been using clumping for the past several years and it’s soooo dusty, the cats kept wheezing and coughing and scratching their ears.

The cats love this! Even my cat Roady who will pee in the bathtub or our closet if the litter boxes are not to his expectations. Even he loves it. Turns out he didnt like all the clumps in the clumping litter(and I scoop boxes when I wake up, before I go to work, when I come home, while the cats eat their dinner and before I go to bed! I’ve been accused of following them around with a scoop in one hand and bag in the other lol).

It doesn’t do much for poop smell, so I gave it 4 stars because of that. I dont like coming home to the smell of poop. Its fragrance isnt really detectable like it is with their clumping variety when you first pour it in, and I add baking soda just in case.

Also, it’s not nearly as dusty as Tidy Cats clumping litter, and especially not as dusty as Fresh Step clumping!.

As long as I have had kitties, I have used tidy cats litter. Previously I was using the glade instant action, which I loved, but when it was unavailable on instacart they delivered this lightweight kind instead i love it even more.

They both smell nice, but the lightweight litter is SO much easier to scoop! The other thing I like about it, is the bits of litter are small so they don’t really get stuck between my kitty’s toes if they (briefly) do, it isn’t going to hurt them or irritate them.

I’ve also noticed less litter is being tracked outside of the box. My only complaint is the rising price. not long ago I was paying $14/35lbs. now it’s just under $20. #tidycats #litter #purina.

Urine clumps but stays soaking wet forever, which means it STINKS! Same with solid waste. Just sits under litter and remains wet & smelly. Scooping every single day didn’t fix how terrible the litter smelled after first use.

My cats stopped using their box completely and started going on the floor. Had to bleach the boxes and buy different brand of litter for the 1st time in 40 years because I can’t find regular 24/7 clumping anymore (way better).

This is our go-to kitty litter. After years of using one of the natural (corn based) litters with our previous cats, we found our youngest/current cat apparently has allergies to corn. I tried several different brands and styles before seeing that this Tidy Cats Lightweight doesn’t seem to bother him.

I prefer the lightweight version just because it’s, well, light to carry and handle. lol This clumps well. I wouldn’t say the clumps are rock hard but they stay together while cleaning the litter box.

We only have one cat now but even when we had two this litter kept up with odor. I usually scoop the clumps out each evening but even if there I days I don’t get to it, odor is minimal. I will stick with this litter as long as I can.

With the pandemic it’s sometimes been hard to find this in stock at my local store, and I dread those days.

This is the second brand of pine litter I’ve tried and I’m so glad I switched over from clay-based litter. Even with a decent litter mat and boxes with high edges I was getting frustrated with all the bits of clay still around the house and the amount of clay dust that accumulated was irritating my allergies.

I also seemed to be going through the clay litter faster than the pine-based stuff as well. When the pine pellets get wet, they swell up a bit and then turn into sawdust. It’s a little more time-consuming to scoop out the dust while trying to save the pellets, but there’s little to no urine odors and much less gets tracked outside the boxes.

About once a month I do a “deep clean” of the litter boxes where I dump the good pellets into a clean container, empty the litter box and clean it out of any excess sawdust and then put the good pellets back in the litterbox and replace with more pellets as needed.

This may be easier with a sifting litter box but I didn’t want to get rid of the boxes I aleady had. I have 2 kittens and their mom who are all using the pine litter now with no issues. The kittens were already using the pine stuff but I had to slowly transition their mom over from clay to pine and she eventually got used to it.

I like how the back of the bag has tips/instructions on how to switch to pine litter. Overall, pretty happy with this brand and will continue to stick with it.

There is a learning curve with this cat litter, but follow my advice & you’ll be better off for it. #1: make sure you have 2 litter boxes per cat in your home. #2: get a sifting pan, it’ll make changing litter a breeze.

#3: when using a litter scoop, be advised that when wet, the litter turns to dust and DOES NOT clump (unless it’s a soft stool). In order to combat this, I clean 2 litter boxes at once. I designate a pellet box, and a dust box.

I scoop from pellet box, sift over dust box, until one whole litter box is dust & poops, and the other is all old pellets. I then like to use a dust pan like a shovel & move the dust into a plastic bag (double bag it OR re-use empty pine litter bag.

I even use empty dry food bags if they can be zipped closed). Ta-da! Now the worst is over. Dust & poop taken care of, I split the old pellets between the 2 litter boxes and line the bottom with it. Top it off with 2″ of new pellets fresh out the bag & you’ll be good to go! #4: change the litter weekly & your house will smell fine.

Tip: Chewy sells a faux-planter style litter box. It’s big, pretty, and covered so tracking is minimal & smells tend to stay contained. They also hold a lot of litter. If you can afford 2 of them, they’re your best bet.

This litter doesn’t leave a plume of dust or make my cats paws dusty. It doesn’t stick between their paws or stink. Their urine breaks down the pellets and their poop sits on top to easily scoop or grab up with a bag or gloved hand.

I only smell the pellets even with poop sitting on top. Trick is you HAVE to clean every day but it’s so fast! This litter is better with a sifting type of litter box. The litter box is at the bottom and the sifting tray on top and the pellet litter in side the sifting tray.

To clean all you do is scoop out the poo (I have a litter genie just for poop) then you shake the sifting tray to shake out the broken down pellets into the box below then you can dump to shavings into the trash.

It’s so easy it takes me 10 minutes to clean 3 boxes. Each time I clean I wipe the box with some disinfectant and make sure it’s dry and put the sifting tray with the pellets inside back on top of the box.

It’s truly the best litter! The largest bag lasts me about 4-6 months. My cats took to it quickly which is a surprise because one of them is very picky. MUST BUY!.

As tofu litter is more popular in Asian countries and after knowing my friend uses that for her cat, I wanted to try this to replace the clay litter I’ve been using for the past years. I got the original one because I just can’t imagine any artificial fruity fragrance mixed with cat pee to smell pleasant.

I mixed a thin layer of the old clay litter and the whole bag of tofu litter as transition. It doesn’t cause trouble because the finer clay stays at the bottom and tofu litter on top even when mixed, and this doesn’t affect the clumping either.

My first impression on this litter is, weirdly but honestly, they kinda smell good. The clay litter I used is not fragranced and I didn’t mind the sandy smell, but this smells like. stacks of papers? And it definitely neutralizes the ammonia smell better after the litter is used.

They clump fine, might break into pieces when scooping but still big enough to be picked out. I’ve seen reviews saying tofu litter in general doesn’t deal well with poops, but I don’t find differences than clay litter in terms of odor locking, except that my cat won’t fully cover the poops with tofu litter as he would with the clay litter, but no big deal for me as I clean litter box quite often.

From my use on my long hair cat, the biggest advantage of tofu litter over the clay litter is they don’t stick onto his fluffy pants when he squats–after countless times struggling to clean the wet stinky clumps on his butt and legs, finally something! I think it is because the pellets are longer, they might be touching his fur but just won’t stick as easily.

The other advantage is the tracking problem. They still track outside of the litter box as agreed by other reviews, but way better than the clay litter. Again I think due to the longer pellet size, they won’t stick in between the paw hairs, and most of the loose litters get captured by the litter mat, and I can deal with the few ones on the floor and sweep them up.

Unlike the clay litter, which is less visible when scattered, and I’m also tired of feeling/stepping on the sand particles around any possible corners at home. Overall this is a positive first experience.

I read about tofu litter produces less dusts than other types so hopefully some long term good for my cat. They are also flushable if this will be a plus for anyone. Since our litter box isn’t set up around the toilet, I continue to use litter genie.

One thing I would suggest is to use a litter scoop with bigger holes for this litter, because my current scoop is meant for clay litter and it takes forever to sift the pellets. They are more expensive than clay litter, and I don’t know yet how long a bag can last, but I’m willing to try out for longer.

I was SUPER skeptical purchasing this since I have been through every cat litter you can imagine for low dust. My rag doll seems to have an allergy for everything. Yesterdays news came in tops for that, but what cat wants to stand on super large hard pellets that don’t clump or mask any kind of smell.

I’ve been using Worlds Best and yes the clumping is great but not clear on how they can advertise low dust and tracking when I am dust busting 8 million times a day and my cats paws are yellow and he’s sneezing while peeing.

Cautiously tried this, and I am REALLY impressed. Barely any tracking and NO dust. I didn’t believe the 3 second clumping thing, but it somehow clumps better than any litter I’ve ever used. I scoop it, nothing crumbles, and then dump it in the toilet.

I still use my litter genie for the poop for sanitation reasons, however, scooping is on point. I’m really glad chewys started to carry this. I’ve been hearing about it but it seemed to good to be true.

The colored litter is not scented as someone else might have mentioned, as I think it is just for aesthetics. I like the original bc it looks the most clean, but I also have Ocean fish which is a light blue.

I also don’t have an issue with the color transferring to their beds or carpet in their play room, and the carpet is cream so I definitely would’ve noticed ( same reviewer mentioned this). I’ve never had issues with smelly litter, but this does the job just as well as worlds best.

I definitely recommend this if you have been looking for a zero dust, low tracking, environmentally friendly litter.

I tried this litter completely on its own when I was fostering kittens, and I will say that this is NOT suitable for kittens that are under 5 weeks because the litter will clump to their legs and little paws.

I had to use warm water and a paper towel to get those off of them. After around 6 weeks, things got better, but I decided to mix this litter with some wood shredded litter and that has significantly helped the sticking.

It still stuck sometimes, but it was much, much better than before. This 50% mix of wood and 50% mix with tofu litter is also what I use for my cat, and it has significantly help reduce tracking (actually, there is no tracking with 50/50 mixture) and helped with odor control.

My past experience with *only* wood litter was that the wood would stink up and smell like, well, rotten wood, and it would track horrendously. By mixing this tofu litter in, not only has it reduced that smell, but the litter no longer tracks.

I was originally thinkin about converting to this litter 100%, but I’m actually pretty happy with the 50/50 mixture I have, so I will keep that. If you’re iffy about fully converting to this litter, I would say try a 50/50 mix with gradations in-between (first 25/75 then 50/50), then make a decision! I think this mix has been very beneficial since the past 8 months I’ve been using it.

I have senior asthmatic cats with seasonal allergies who are prone to URI, so getting a good dust free litter is key. Unfortunately, they won’t use other typical “dust free” non-clay options, so clay it is.

This means I’m trying all the dust free litters (and ideally unscented if I can get it, but clumping, unscented AND dust free is a ). I decided to give this one a try and it was a BIG mistake. I would not recommend purchasing this litter at all due to the intense smell.

It has a sweet, sickening scent that it’s unbearable and inescapable. It smells like the worst, cheapest air freshener. When you cut the bag open or put even a few cup fulls in a litter box, the entire room (and most of the adjacent rooms) will now be permeated with the same sickening scent.

I would not recommend putting this full strength in any litter box. Once you put it in a littler box, you’ll be dealing with the smell until you completely change out that litter. Once I realized the horror that had just been unleashed, I quickly mixed it with a less offensive litter but that still was awful and unbearable.

(Unfortunately, the budget is tight so if I buy it, I use it. ) The smell was so bad, I had to clip the top of it shut and stash it away behind a closed door/on another floor of the house. Unfortunately, I had a second bag delivered because I didn’t catch it in the autoship and the experience was still the same.

If you have a litter box in an enclosed space or close to human living quarters in any way, buyer beware–you will not be able to escape this smell!! Yes, the cats used it, but I can’t imagine this litter is in anyway a healthy product for them.

Can we just make some unscented litters that are dust free, please?! Just take the scent out of this one, and it would be fine.

My old cat has been peeing and pooping outside the box. After ensuring it wasn’t a medical issue, I tried a few different substrates. none that made her paws comfortable until now. She seems satisfied with this new texture and has had more elimination visits to the box than not.

What do I hate about this litter? 1. The scent. This added scent is to appease humans, not cats. It’s way too much for me, and I’m sure the cat/s, who are considerably more sensitive to smell, don’t find it a joy either.

Unscented is the way to go. 2. I hate the advertisement that it prevents odors for up to 7 days. What that tells the average lazy customer is they don’t need to scoop often (bc THEY won’t be assaulted by the odors), when in fact scooping should be done at least twice daily.

No one wants to use a dirty toilet, never mind stand in one/pick one’s way around feces and urine clumps to find a place to toilet. 3. It’s heavy. Those little granules weigh a ton. scooping it feels like one’s moving mounds of heavy dirt (even for my husband) 4.

Opening the box is soooo hard. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for folks with decreased hand strength. A different opening/pouring design would go a long way (e. g. : the kind that is found on some infant cereal boxes.

Remove a sticker-cover and pull out a spout). The bottom line is I bought this to try a new texture, and that seems to work for my old girl. However, my next purchase will be playground sand (face palm for not thinking of that first), which should feel good on her paws without the unnatural/overpowering scent (and other annoyances).

This product is very heavily scented. The clumping aspect works really well, i could give four stars for performance but the smell is very overpowering. It smells like a can of bathroom spray exploded in my living room, still headache-strong after a week.

Cats are even more sensitive to smell, i cant imagine what it’s like for them to have to be that close to such a strong odor when using the litter box. We usually use worlds best, lavender scent, the cats and i and like it very much.

But eventually that litter starts to smell sour, so i thought i would try something different. I have used, and liked, the unscented version of the arm & hammer lightweight clumping when my shelter gave me some for my fosters.

I was disappointed to not find it available from chewy but saw this lightly scented version and thought i would try it for my own cats. The packaging disguises the smell so well that i ordered two more bags thinking i will use it for my fosters, too – when i opened the first bag the perfume smell was overwhelming.

I will use it up but wont be buying it again. A note about the packaging, i found the bag to be convenient but next bag i open i will just cut the corner & pour. The bag has dotted line across the top suggesting to cut the whole top off which then it becomes hard to control the bag when u pick it up to pour.

I’m glad I found this as it does the job it says it does. Pretty near dust free. Odors are considerably reduced but I do scoop twice a day just because it’s best for the cats. This litter clumps tightly.

However, 4 stars instead of 5 since, to me, it tracks a little bit too much. I’ve ordered a different litter mat so we’ll see if that helps out. Also, I prefer litter in a plastic jug but I have some around from previous litter orders and have re-filled them with the Integrity brand.

I’m getting my 2nd bag, so I think I may have found the one for my two cats. They adjusted to it quickly, though you do need to mix in the previous litter first to get them used to it!.

I invested in a Litter Maid self-cleaning litter box, which works very well–and my cats love having clean litter every time. The directions told me to purchase VERY hard clumping litter for the box to work optimally.

After a long search, Integrity cat litter turned out to be the best one. My cats had always used Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract, and they adapted to Integrity seamlessly. And it’s almost dustless. But Integrity DOES track–quite a bit, unlike like its claims say.

That disappoints me, but I can live with the inconvenience. Just wishing that claims were accurate.

This cat litter is so absorbent. The clumps are tight and it has superior odor control w/o added fragrance. They replant after removing the clay its a win-win!

I have used Dr. Elsey’s litter products for many years and loved everything about them. The different litter products were dust free, controlled odors well, clumped and scooped well, and with the OLD packaging, was so easy and great to handle.

It used to come in a cardboard box with a handle at the top, encased in very thin plastic so as to keep any loose litter from spilling all over the place while handling it. It was easy to pour, the box was recyclable and minimal plastic waste.

The company has recently changed the packaging to a hard to maneuver, non-earth friendly thicker plastic bag. Since it is loose in a floppy bag, it is hard to store. Previously it was so easy to stack the boxes on top of each other and now the loose bags slide all over the place and are VERY hard to handle because there is no handle to use any more.

Each bag I have ordered comes with holes and tears in it so the litter makes a mess all over the house when I try to unbox the litter and carry it to the litter box or anywhere else (that never happened with the box).

When so many companies are going to sustainable boxed products so the waste of plastic is not so prolific, it surprises me greatly that this company is going in the opposite direction. This change in packaging is certainly not an improvement for the customer or the planet, so I can only assume that this company sacrificed the great customer satisfaction that was present before, for a cheaper alternative.

I guess if you have always bought bagged litter and never had the good experience of the former packaging of this product, you don’t know what you missed. But this is SUCH a bad change that I actually wrote the company about this change in the packaging and have just ordered another brand of litter which does come in a proper container rather than a damaged bag.

If they changed their packaging back to the original box, I would go back to using this immediately. But until they do, I will be looking for a better litter that performed the way this one used to.

My cat is almost 4 years old and has, for the majority of his lifespan, preferred to poop on bath rugs and the floor. I couldn’t figure out the cause of his aversion; I tried everything to resolve his issues and nothing worked for more than a week or two.

Eventually I accepted that I just had to force him into his litter box once every 24 hours and not let him leave until he’d pooped. When he upgraded his bathroom to the living room couch and armchair, I had to do SOMETHING to stop him.

I was aware of this litter but I didn’t want to use it because Precious Cat Ultra has no odor control and weak clumping. Maybe my little guy’s chemistry is out of whack, but it’s a GROSS litter in comparison to Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal or Okocat Super Soft.

I decided to give this a try when I dumped a ton of Cat Attract powder into his old litter and he started using it properly. My cat hasn’t pooped or attempted to poop anywhere but the litter box since I switched him to this litter.

However, I started mixing his old litter into it to use that up, and he tried to poop on the furniture once the amount of Cat Attract apparently wasn’t sufficient. This was over a month after the switch, so he’s not going to be one of those “my cat used this for a week and remembered how to use the litter box forever” success stories.

The litter WORKS. The cat is only eliminating in the litter box. However, Cat Attract has no odor control (it actually seems to make the smell of pee STRONGER) and the clumps are miserable, enormous chunks of sludge that stick to the box like cement but crumble and spread everywhere when scooped.

I hate using Dr Elsey’s litter, but I hate cleaning poop off of my living room furniture every single day even more.

We just bought a new home and replaced the carpet upon moving in. Our now now 10 month old puppy peed a handful of times the first couple days but then stopped once I realized it and worked with him.

I’m not sure if this is what caused one of our cats to start peeing on the carpet or what, but he did for months! I didn’t even realize he was at first so I knew that pee was getting soaked in the carpet good.

I was trying everything to make him stop. I was using the carpet cleaner every single day with enzymatic soaps. I used vinegar on it, special sprays, everything. He just kept peeing everywhere. I moved the litter box to where he was peeing on the carpet but he still wouldn’t use the litter box.

I changed the litter we were using, and it still wasn’t working. I had heard about cat attractant litter but for some reason didn’t think about using it at this time. Well I looked into it again, found this stuff on petco’s website and it got really good reviews so I tried it.

As soon as I brought in the bag, all of my cats ran up ahd started smelling the bag and rubbing up against it. I completely emptied and scrubbed the litter boxes really well and put this stuff in one.

As soon as I put the litter box down, my cat who was peeing everywhere ran up and immediately went pee in it!!! I’m almost positive he’s been going in there to pee now! I always knew where he was peeing on the carpet because the fibers would be pulled up a bit.

Ever since getting this, I haven’t seen that anywhere. This has been a life saver! I was so stressed for 2+ months over this and I cried about it multiple times. The smell of cat pee in my living room was unbearable.

Unfortunately the smell of cat pee is still there and I’m working on getting it out, but at least I know our cat isn’t causing there to be more pee. I couldn’t recommend this enough to anyone having problems with their cat peeing outside the litter box.

Cat’s Best brand name sums up this product accurately; it is THE best kitty litter I have ever come across and great value for money! It alleviates ALL excretion smells quickly & effectively, clumps for easy removal & it’s biodegradable & flushable, making it super easy & convenient to maintain, without adding to landfill.

The initial outlay may seem expensive, however when used as per manufacturer’s instructions, it by far outlasts any other litter I have used, making this product cheaper to use in the long run than other inferior products requiring very frequent total product replacement.

There is some mild tracking on surrounding floor after use; easily swept or vacuumed up; which is a minor inconvenience when compared to the sum of benefits of using this product. Brilliant! Highly recommend.

Since discovering this litter I will not be buying anything else.

This is an excellent product and one I can wholeheartedly recommend! It clumps really quickly, and locks away the awful ammonia urine smell, plus, you can flush the clumps down the toilet as its 100% biodegradable! Overall, this is the best cat litter I have ever used, and I have tried a good many over the years! Having 5 indoor cats means our litter trays are frequently used, and with the old wooden litter, needed to be constantly cleared out, generating a lot of waste, and consequently, very full bin!
