I have had this video for quite some time – and use it regularly in my rotation. Definitely one of my favorites – if not favorite workout DVD. It’s a no nonsense weight lifting video – that you can make as easy or difficult as you like (depending on how much weight you use).
There is no twisting, no jumping, and no jerking moves – I no longer do such moves in order to protect my knees and back from injury.
I’ve done strength training workout DVDs with The FIRM and Cathe Freidrich for many years. This one is different and (also) very effective. Not to take away from the others at all, but Jari’s “Get Ripped” series is set up so differently that it really shakes up your routine, and gets you results that are fun to see.
She does one body part per song (of GREAT music with a pounding beat – VERY motivating). She does LIGHTER weights and MANY reps (sometimes as many of 75 per set!). But she mixes up the tempo (4-Down/4-Up ; 3-Down/1-Up ; Single-Count, etc.
) The workout also breaks up each song track/body part with a screen that tells you the weight load each of the four exercisers is using. So you know how to pace yourself. One gal uses her body weight ONLY for many of the exercises.
One of the men uses VERY heavy weights. Some of the exercisers use dumbbells, some use a barbell, and some use weight plates. They each switch their equipment between the different exercises to suit themselves, so you get to see all kinds of ways to do the workout the way YOU like it.
The other difference between this series and something like The FIRM is the rotation calendar. You are advised to do “Get Ripped” 3 days per week, and alternate with 3 cardio days of your choice. You do this same video for at least 10 times (3 weeks) all the way up to 20 times (6 weeks) before you move up to workout video #2 in the series.
It is called “Get Ripped: Slim & Lean”. It also uses the same style of 1 exercise per song, but there are even more reps, as well as some pulsing and static-holding moves (think “Low Ends” from Cathe Freidrich – KILLER!).
There are also 2 more workouts in the series currently (as of December 2006). Each one gets progressively harder, and you work your way up through each video by increasing your weights, and then moving onto the next DVD.
I highly recommend all four of Jari’s workouts (with a 5th one being released in 2007). I needed new exercises to use at home. At first I was not familiar with Love’s dvds until I did this exercise routine. Right after I tried this one I had to get other exercises by her. I like how she tells you the weight each person is using at the beginning of each exercise, how they take the time to show the correct way to do the exercises, how Love gives saftey tips to prevent injury, the encouragement she gives and the way she interviews exercise experts and talks about testing for the highest calorie burn.
She also shows a variety of ways to do each exercise to help meet different needs. I will look forward for any future exercises she offers.

This dvd is just “ok”. I’ve only done the first half (haven’t made it to the 2nd half yet as I just started it). I don’t really think it has a lot of structure to it. I feel like Jillian just “hops around” to each segment too fast.
She’s up, then its on the floor, then it up again etc. etc. Its easy enough to keep up with, but I kind of feel like even the person she has there showing how to the do the “modified” version is still doing what Jillian is doing.
I don’t feel like its a truly modified version. Guess you have to be the judge for yourself. But for me, it was just simply average. I could take it or leave it really.
I’ve been doing kettlebell over 7 years and I’m always looking for new moves. I saw this on sale at Walmart and took it for a spin. I did the first set of moves and except for 1 move, the rest didn’t impress me and I quit using it.
Trying to substitute dumbbells for kettlebells is mixing apples and oranges. Dumbbells affect 1 body part while Kettlebells affect the entire body. You’re using gravity with Kettlebells and it makes such a difference.
Do NOT get dumbbells, just start with a smaller weight. If you want a real workout, look for Art of Strength-especially their Kettlebell Clinic DVD. There you learn how to do kettlebells with proper form and LOTS of help.
If you’re an advance KB user, don’t waste your money on this DVD.
I just started working out with a kettle bell at home and thought who better to train with then Jillian? I am so happy with this DVD it is my favorite Jillian Michaels workout. It is fun to do and I definitely feel the burn.
There’s 2 levels but even with level 1 you can advance to using a heavier weight before moving to level 2.

This arrived at our house a day early so our helper was not available. The box weighed 104 lbs. We brought the device upstairs by opening the box downstairs and taking out pieces. Instructions and included tools made it easy to assemble, but good to have two people share the load.
All parts were in the box, yay. Included were two good training DVDs. So far, everything including the rebounder works. Our only complaint is the movement is somewhat rougher than we’d like. We exoect we can use oil or graphite to improve sliding.
The reformer adjusts for both of us at 5’4″ and 5’9″. The owner’s manual says a user can weigh up to 300 lbs. That seems a lot for this size system. If we put the reformer on the floor instead of using the stand, we could fold up the device when not in use.
We like the stand but it cannot be folded. Overall, this is a good deal that soon pays for itself if one goes to Pilates twice a week as we did. Comment: the last time we were in a Pilates gym, the woman huffing next to me said she felt sick but believed she needed to use the gym anyway.
Having had a few relatives catch Covid, we didn’t agree, and for now we prefer working out at home.
This machine (Premier 700 model) is an excellent starter machine for those on a budget and who are do not want to spend a small fortune on a pilates machine (like myself). It’s a great value and performs very well.
It’s all mechanical and easy to figure out (plus you can replace most of the parts if needed). So far so good. I love the instructional videos that come with it. The instructor is very user-friendly and i really like her teaching style.
Explains concepts very well. I purchased the pull-up bar a few days later. The entire unit was easy to assemble, and i’m 65 years old. Again, this model is a great bargain for those starting out and those who cannot afford to spend a small fortune on a machine that may end up as a clothes drying rack later on (for those who lose interest in learning pilates).
I wanted something that was easy on my joints and can use well into my golden years. I think i’ve fount it!.
I love the machine. Or, I thought I did, for a short while. It is great for some of the (very) basic exercises, and I thought it was a good value because of the add-ons to customize to my (advancing) fitness needs /levels.
(and one of the key reasons I decided against the Total Gym was because I wanted a more pilates focused machine, that permitted the pull up bar or other such addons / upgrades. stronger cords, etc, oops).
My rating reflects that this 55-4266 is not compatible with the pull up bar. Not in any of the descriptions from many of the big sellers of this product (that I saw) , was this disclaimer ever made visible.
It was not until I tried in vain to figure out how to attach the bar, that I found out that it doesn’t fit. (Even on this website, the pull up bar purchase description indicates that it does not fit 55-5556 and the 55-5557.
I made a silly deduction, therefore, that it would attach to the 55-4266A). It was not until looking into the questions specifically about the 266, (55-4266A), on this website, (again, hoping to see if anyone else asked how to attach the pull up bar) did I see that the pull up bar is not compatible).
Sadly, I did not read that before I bought this machine (and the pull up bar, that is now useless). If you are looking to add any of the extra options, then understand that this machine is very limited! (Ironically, on the exercise guide inserts that delivered with this machine, the pull up bar is shown in more than half of the diagrams!!).
Consider what you want out of the machine and understand what you are buying for the price. (Regardless of the seller). Be careful not to advance in your fitness levels unless you have the money to buy a better machine within the next year because the lack of attachments / upgrades available on this model.

Env: development I bought the Biggest Loser Cardio Max at Target because I was looking for something I can do between gym visits. I have not purchased fitness videos before so I chose this DVD purely on name recognition.
My friend and I decided to go to my house and try it immediately and well me were pleasantly surprised. The moves are pretty simple and the video instructors show different positions for people of different fitness levels.
I love how the people in the background doing the exercises are former contestants of the show and they are not skinny flexible fit people. It makes me feel better about my weight and it is truly encouraging.
My friend and I ened up with a good sweat and quite happy. I also really like how you can pick and choose different routines and use them in whatever line up you want. I started doing the Yoga cool down each morning and it helps me get a good start on my day.
I recomend it for people who are looking to put a little exercise in their daily routines. Also moderately priced. I think I paid $9. 99. Env: development.

This workout is a good fundamental start for me because I had stopped exercising for a long amount of time. I would recommend buying a set of hand weights to use as well (they’re used in the workout).
The workout itself is 20 minutes and for me, that is a comforting thought. Usually, I find Jillian Michaels to be a bit annoying, but in this DVD recording, she is “less intense” (compared to what I’ve heard from her on TV).
I’ve been motivated to do this workout multiple days in a row and would like to do the next two levels of this Shred Series. I would recommend this DVD to people who are interested in getting back into exercising.

I purchased this dvd on sale for $9. 99. I began the dvd the day after I received it. I have worked out to this dvd for the past four weeks 3x’s/week and have noticed a beautiful difference in my body! I am toned, muscle definition and my friends have even noticed!! I did tweak my daily eating habits (cut out soda, drinking more water & portion foods now) & I have lost six pounds.
DVD is tough, but staying focused is key. This is not impossible! Only twenty minutes a day, I highly encourage others to give it a try!.

Love this workout program. Although, I am mostly a runner for my main exercise I love doing these DVD’s on my cross training days or when I am unable to run. They are hard and definitely work! My whole body is always burning when I am done.
It also is great for beginners. I thought the first month had pretty easy workout but once I got to the 2nd month it definitely pushed my limit. They are great!.
One of my favorite programs! Really helped me get my body back after having a baby. It starts off very entry level and each month steps it up so it’s not too overwhelming. Jillian is a great trainer and keeps you motivated.
Really built up my strength and endurance and I lost around 20lbs during 1 round of the program.
I recommend this workout to everyone that is starting to exercise more. It’s a great workout and builds up in intensity (without killing you to start with like Insanity or P90X – both of which I’ve done).
I will sometimes just do a cardio workout as a warm-up for other DVDs to pack more into my workout days. I love that you get to have front and back days rather than arms and legs days. It truly feels like I get a total body workout no matter what.

I bought this DVD solely for the cardio part of it. I love the intensity of Jari Love’s weight workouts so I wanted to see if her cardio would be just as tough. She does not disappoint! The cardio workout is broken down into 3-minute intervals, and each interval has three levels of intensity.
Most are familiar moves, but you will be sweating in no time! For most of the intervals, Jari goes briefly back to level one intensity at the end so your heart rate comes down just a bit. But, for a few of them she does not.
For those few, I had to pause the DVD just to catch my breath. really my only gripe. If you do the complete workout, she mixes in a bit of weight training, but I did the cardio only option. I’m a firm believer in not mixing weight training and cardio at the same time plus her weight segments on this DVD are so short, they won’t make a big impact on you.
I was a little disappointed in the push-ups and abs section. It’s not that long and certainly not as intense as the similar sections in her Get Extremely Ripped DVD. I didn’t feel the burn like I do with that DVD.
I would highly recommend this DVD for the cardio aspect of it. If you are looking for an intense weight workout, try her Get Ripped:Slim & Lean DVD. I LOVE that workout! You will truly reshape your body using weights with that one.
If you want to work with weights and keep your heart rate up, try her Get Extremely Ripped DVD. You won’t be able to use as heavy a weight as with the Slim & Lean workout because you are constantly moving while lifting.
Plus, the push-up and abs sections on that DVD are some of the best I’ve seen because she works both the abs and the lower back. Most ab workouts ignore the lower back and just focus on crunches.
I love Jari Love’s workouts–I have three so far but I’m still building my collection. This workout combines low-weight/high-rep weight training with cardio. Each weight-training exercise is alternated with a cardio segment.
The DVD allows the user to choose between an hour workout, or 2 30-minute workouts. Also, you have the choice of doing only the cardio, or only the weight workouts. The user has the option of using a step, but you don’t need one to get a great workout.
The 30-minute workout is challenging enough. I need about a gallon of water when I do this workout, and I feel sore the next day. My very-fit husband started doing this workout recently and now thinks he’s not as fit as he once thought.
Awesome workout. I have a few of her DVDs already and I use this one when I have the energy to get through it! Jari is not like some of the other fitness instructors who are loud and overbearing. She is real mellow and encouraging!! I would seriously get rid of all the workout videos I have and just keep a collection of these.

I bought this product because of the title. I wanted to burn fat. lol! This workout is a solid cardio workout. I would reccomend this workout for beginners and intermediate athletes but it is also capable of giving advanced athletes a good workout.
I have most of the firm workout and to ME ( because I am an advanced athlete) I give this workout a solid B. It will definetly make you sweat!.
I bought this DVD b/c I have a bunch of the Firm DVD’s and I love them! They have helped me lose 25 pounds. I was looking for a DVD that would give me an intense cardio workout in 40-45 minutes, and that’s what this dvd does.
Alison Davis is a great leader and a good cuer. Between cardio and weight sections, this DVD really keeps your heart rate up the entire time. I would reccomend the DVD for intermediate exercisers. One minor critique is that the footwork in some of the sections can be complicated.
I would reccomend sitting down and watching the entire DVD before doing the workout for the first time. A great DVD to get a good cardio workout in a short time!.
I enjoy the Firm’s usage of cardio and weight training together for maximum results. I really liked this one because there is very little time spent on the floor and you don’t need extensive equipment, just a pair of light dumb bells.
