Watch some YouTube videos first- that’s my first recommendation. I’d done that, put it up once that season and then tried to use the instructions included the next season (because I’d forgotten how to assemble it from the year before.
yes, my brain is getting older) and I was so frustrated I just about threw in the towel. I remembered that I had such an easier time putting it together on the ground and then putting it in the box and strapping it down.
I won’t make that mistake twice. Seriously, there are better ways to install it rather than the instructions given- do yourself a favour and spend a few minutes exploring some alternative installs. This tent is very roomy and well vented.
I’m short but a very tall person would be able to stand up in it comfortably. There are a lot of neat features and overall, it does what I need it to do- shelter me and keep me up off of the ground. I haven’t used this in the rain yet, so I have yet to experience the performance in less than stellar weather but it was really windy the one night I had it up and it was fine.
I used a fold-up step stool to get in and out of the truck I am unable to use the step features on my bumper and it works well. All the zippers work fine so far but they seem flimsy- I’m expecting that they won’t last.
I’m pretty happy with my tent. The set up is a sore point, so it loses some merit on the scoring but as I said and many before me, watch how some other clever humans figured out a solution, so follow their lead.
The quality is okay, as I mentioned the zippers seem flimsy but I just go gentle with them. It is pretty cool to back up to lakeside and wake up to that view in the morning though. That makes it worth it.
This is the best tent purchase have Ever made. I bought the original blue one back in 2004. Used is every year in the summer and fall for camping. 12 times a year probably. No issues at all but as with anything over time things do wear out.
Only reason having to purchase a new one today (2/25/22) is because my dog tied to jump into the tent while doors were zipped shut. dog trashed the tent. On cold nights used the propane Buddy Heater in the tent.
it’s really a perfect setup. Being off the ground makes a huge difference. Sure hope the tents are still as good as my 2004 model I have Sportz Truck Tent II. Love this tent!.

Used this while camping for three nights in October BC weather. Tent held up well, kept warm and dry (little condensation but thats expected). Little tight for room as there were 2 of us and a medium size dog who slept between my legs.
My advice is shop around for a good mattress that fits well in between your trucks wheel wells for extra comfort, i might buy a second mattress to put under my existing one for more comfort. Set up wasn’t that bad either, the instructions were very helpful.
I bought the one with the awning which was nice to have to stay dry prior to going into the tent.
Bought this for a road trip into Quebec. Ended up being pleasently surprised. Not super difficult to set up but definitely more difficult than a normal tent. When it rains, the way it is set up is that the water rolls right off the side of the tent and tailgate.
No water can get underneath the tent which is perfect. Even if it rains, everything in the tent stayed dry. 10/10 invention. Only complaint is that after one use when it rained, the next day, all the little pieces connecting the poles turned from stainless steel to cheap plastic colour.
It was almost like acid rain washed the paint off the poles through the rain tarp.

Rest assured that if there is a storm you will stay nice and dry and it will hold up to wind gusts.
I am not going to go over all the benefits of being in the truck bed over the ground. There are lots of reviews on that. My experience camping in the Napier Backroadz tent. Build quality is fantastic.
Our latest camping trip with it was during tropical storm Cindy. Boy did it rain. But inside the tent. PERFECTLY DRY. The campground was flooded but we were dry. That speaks volumes to me. It did not waiver in the rain or wind.
It was strong. The only downside I can see with the tent is the way the door opens. It opens down instead of to the side. So you have to climb over the door mesh to get in. I can just see something getting snagged on the door and ripping the mesh.
That did not happen but I could see a potential there. Don’t let that discourage you from this tent. It goes up quick and is good quality. Not like one of those Wal-Mart brands. It is worth the money.
This is a wonderful product. I love tenting but have a phobia about sleeping on the ground. This tent was so easy and quick to put up. We put it together on the ground and then easily lifted it onto our truck bed.
We also lifted it off and left it assembled when we took our truck the next day and then easily lifted it back on at night. It was perfect!.
The tent seemed to go up easily enough; the tent poles and tunnels are color coded. I also like that the directions are printed on a plastic-like material and sewn into the bag. I haven’t used it in the rain yet, wish I could say I had.
This tent worked awesome! Also, we have a tonneau cover and rails, plus bed rack for construction material. We found that these things did not interfere with setting up the tent (did remove the rack nearest the tailgate).
The unmatched durability and heavy-duty weather resistance of this rugged canvas truck tent ensures it will outperform and outlast all others. The 8-1/2-oz. 100% cotton duck canvas with Hydra-Shield is durable, watertight and breathable.
With its sturdy steel frame, the Kodiak withstands the strong winds and storms Mother Nature throws at it. The tunnel-shaped, tailgate-down design maximizes interior space to the fullest, while the 5-ft.
ceiling height allows for plenty of head room. A set of clamp-on rails easily mount to your truck for a secure fit. And if you want to get some fresh air, open one of the five windows for excellent ventilation and openness.
Cab-access window allows you to run a power cord from your cab to power small appliances. Large D-shaped door with YKK zippers. Two sewn-in gear pockets. Includes carry bag. Fits full-size trucks with 5-1/2-ft.
I love the tent; it is perfect for how we camp. We typically camp in remote areas. If you want to move around or use your vehicle while the tent is in use, it may not be the best choice for you since you really cannot drive with the tent assembled.
That said, you can move short distances at low speeds with no problem. Like most tents the instructions are essentially worthless, but, when you stare at it and think, it really goes together quite easily.
It helps to have two people. The first time we assembled it, my wife and I struggled with it for an hour. We are now pros and it takes us about 15 minutes and it suits our needs perfectly. My wife puts the supports together and I place them on the truck.
I’m 70 and she is 68 and we have no problem with it; you can’t use that as an excuse. Definitely recommend putting it up in the front yard a couple of times before taking it to the field. I’d give it a 4.
Fit perfect in my ’21 Silverado. Camped in heavy winds, 20-30mph and never faltered at all. Kept the wind out. Plenty of room, great ventilation. Add an air mattress and your set. The canvas is excellent material and the tent is very well constructed.
If you been thinking about the high price compare to the cheap ones on amazon don’t compare this one is worth the money. I took me a long time to purchase it but it was worth the money. You can feel the difference and how it was made with a good product.
I’m very happy with this tent for my truck. 2019 Chevy short bed 6. 5.
The Avalanche Truck Tent allows you to sleep high and dry off the cold, dirty ground and in the bed of your truck. It sets up in just 10 minutes in the back of your open-bed pickup, creating a comfortable, restful sleeping area for two people with over 5.
5 ft. of headroom. Shock-corded fiberglass poles and tent sleeves are color coded for fast, hassle-free setup. The tents bed straps and structure adds strength allowing it to stay secure in the bed of the truck during storms.
Two large No-See-Um mesh windows and two ceiling vents deliver excellent ventilation on warm nights. A 6-ft. x 6-ft. awning creates a protected storage area for bulky gear and plenty of shade. Durable, polyester exterior and full rain fly with taped seams have 1200 mm of waterproof rated coating to keep you dry even in the wettest weather.
I searched for a fair price on a Napier truck tent for several weeks. I typed in “used” ans scored this from a dude in Georgia, who only used it ONCE,and then sold his avalanche. I got this for less than half!! I’ve been assembling by camping equipment, since then and I’m just one or two items from putting all the pieces together.
If you’re a single camper (with a dog) like me,and you just wanna get a quick getaway weekend, under your belt, then this is the ABSOLUTE best way to go. (Hint) Pre assemble your tent in the driveway.
Put your bedding and gear INSIDE the tent. Drop the tent, put your tonneau cover back on. This will help speed up your setup when you get to camp. You’re Welcome, L. C.
We purchased the tent for our Avalanche. It fits it perfectly. Could be just a tad less tight, but we are really happy with it. If you have an Avalanche the tailored one is amazing because the area from the bed to the cab unzips for full use of the truck.
Its awesome! The first time setting up takes some figuring out. But the second time will be a breeze. I took it down by myself. It was really easy and stores well. Bonus, it lines the entire inside of the bed.
We camped using this tent the other weekend. It was awesome. The fact that you can open up the back of the tent and remove the back window on the Avalanche allows you to utilize the entire pickup. I would recommend setting it up ahead of time to know how to get the tent up.
First time it would take probably about an hour. Once you know the steps it takes about 10 or 12 minutes. My kids loved it.

I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado crew cab 2wd. I received this today and couldn’t wait to put it on. Fits very nicely. Single person assembly on the ground and placed it in the bed. My bed is only 5’8”, so I was concerned about it being too long.
it’s just right with the tailgate down. You have some flexibility in moving it forward if necessary too. it took me right about 10 minutes to put up. I’m sure that’ll be faster next time. If you’ve worked with tents at all before, this will be a piece of cake.
Again, about 10 minutes to pull down. Did that while it was still in the bed vs. the ground. Nice case. all parts are there. I read some reviews about broken poles, so I’ll be ordering some. I’ve included pictures of mine with a measuring tape assembled, so you can know what else to order for a contingency.
My original parts work fine, just as an FYI. Just going from earlier reviews. The zippered windows made it about 15 degrees cooler once I unzipped them. The last piece to put in once it in the bed is the internal black pole.
You start at the front and chase it back with about 7 stitched in Velcro captures. It’s a little bit of a pain if you’ve got sausage fingers like me. The body tie downs on the side are a breeze. I don’t care for the tailgate part.
They are just elastic and not user friendly. In fact, I never could get them through my tailgate, so I put them around the side and attached as allowed. I didn’t apply the rain fly in the pictures. This tent took a 22” inflatable mattress.
It was a little snug getting in, but I had plenty of headroom and room to turn over. I’m 6’ and 250. so, use your imagination. I’m buying an airbedz and it is 10” lower, so I know long term I’ll have plenty of room.
There are several internal pockets at bed height for storage, typical lightweight material. I think this will be a great addition to anyone looking for a lightweight shelter off the ground for a multi day experience.
Set up was slow, I had to take it out and set tent up on the ground then transfer up into the truck bed. I did this by myself. Compact size tent too large for ’02 Ranger but that’s not the worst of it.
The fiberglass poles are flimsy and instead of bending, the door pole just splintered and shredded. Now I’m stuck with a $100 useless pile of polyester. If there was a way to order just replacement poles, I’d do it and give that truck tent a second chance.
If anyone can suggest how and where to get replacement poles it would be great.
Took a chance: got the short version of the tent for a long bed truck with a back-of-the-cab tool box. Fits just fine. Enough room to stretch legs and neck. The top of the box, although not actually ‘in’ the tent provides a shelf under the tent floor at the side wall level.
Your truck camper will maintain its cleanliness and remain safer under this ADCO SFS AquaShed cover. It fits snugly and securely and is designed for campers that are between 8’ and 10’ in length. What makes this cover so special is the AquaShed top panel, which easily repels water to keep it from penetrating.
It also provides moderate UV protection. The sides are made from polypropylene, which is also weather resistant and breathable to help prevent mold and mildew growth during storage. A rope cinch system and buckles hold the cover in place even during wind, while the elastic corners in the front and back add reinforcement to makes installation easier and ensure a secure fit.
This cover worked and fit great on my 1998 91/2′ S&S camper. Has been on the camper during the last two winters. 2018-9 winter we had 21/2 foot of snow on it. During the melt I keep and eye on it and no water seepage at all.

Easy and quick to set up and tear down. I set it up on my GMC 1500 for the first time in about 20 minutes, future setups will probably a little quicker. Stands very tall so you don’t feel cramped inside.
The fabric feels high quality and the zippers are smooth. There was nothing that seemed “cheap” on the tent. Even the rain fly is quick to put up. It looks very sharp. The tent fully set up is awesome and I love how everything looked and felt strong and sturdy.
I haven’t used it camping yet, but looks like it will serve my needs well. I don’t know why we didn’t get one of these sooner.
The Compact Truck Bed Tent deploys in minutes in pickup beds, providing a fast, comfortable shelter that gets you up off the ground. Topnotch construction, excellent ventilation, and adaptable options make the choice easy.
I recently purchased the compact truck tent. So far I have used it once for a two night trip. Tent works well, seems pretty reliable. After I ordered I read some of the 1 & 2 star reviews. So before I actually went camping I set the tent up twice.
First time I just put in the 2 main poles (slowly) and let the tent sit for a couple hours. A few days later I slowly assembled and put on my truck and let it sit for a few hours. Not sure if taking these steps eliminated any issues but it gave me peace of mind.
Why I gave this 4 & not 5 stars. I had a small amount of trouble setting it up by myself and I would like a small vent at the top of the tent and not rely on windows or door for that.
