16 Best Buy Region Free Blu Ray Player (2023 Updated)

We own a few 4k TVs and a few older ones. I recommend this economic Blue-ray player if you are going to mostly play CDs, DVDs. I say this because the streaming apps are a little bit outdated and you can’t access Amazon, Spotify, Hulu and other now popular streaming services.

On the other hand, this Blue-ray player offers a great sound and video quality. It doesn’t have an actual wireless connection so you’ll need an HDMI cable which isn’t included. It is pretty fast at loading DVDs and Blu-ray Discs.

I noticed that setup and actual app connection is quite slow compared to other newer devices. I think this device is great for physical videos and not streaming. App loading speed needs to be improved as well as the possibility to add more new streaming apps.

So this is a little confusing because Sony couldn’t really decide on a name for 4K discs; they either call them 4K Ultra HD or Ultra HD Blu Ray depending on their mood, but the important part is this is not a 4K disc player.

This is a regular 1080p Blu Ray disc player that will upscale to 4K. Aside from being confusingly named, you don’t need this. Seriously, if you have a 4K tv it already upscales 1080p to 4K, so that’s pointless.

Pretty much every 4K tv is also a smart tv, so that will already stream 4K content from your favorite services. The only possible reason to get this is if you have a 4K tv and really prefer to stream from your disc player, but you’re absolutely sure you’ll never get a Ultra HD disc, which this won’t play.

Even if that’s you, Sony makes an Ultra HD Blu Ray player for $20 more. Just get that. Seriously this is pointless.

If people actually read the description of this player before buying it, I think the 6700 would have four and a half stars rather than 4. There are a lot of reviewers complaining that this player won’t play their 4K blu ray’s or stream in 4K.

The title clearly says, “Sony Blu-Ray Disc 4k Upscaling Player” and the description says, “Watch your favorite movies & TV shows in high definition with this 1080p Upscaling DVD Player”. Anyone with even an iota of tech knowledge knows what that means, it means it is a 1080 player that will take a 1080 film and attempt to upgrade the quality to being like 4K.

In short, there’s nothing in the title or description that says the 6700 is a 4K player, the title says it upscales and the description clearly states it is a 1080 player that can upscale. So anyone who buys one of these players thinking it can play 4K discs only to find out they can’t and then write a negative review, their reviews should be taken down since it isn’t Sony’s fault that the consumer’s reading comprehension skills suck.

As for the other negative reviews like the player no longer working after a few months or needing to be rebooted to play bd’s or stream, those reviewers have every right to complain. Companies are cutting too many corners and putting out products that just don’t last long.

I’m giving the player 4 stars for now, one day is not long enough to judge a product, I hope Target lets me edit reviews but time will tell.

The Sony UBP-X700 does exactly what I need. I’m in the US and enjoy films from all over the world, particularly the UK. This replaced an aging Yamaha player whose image quality deteriorated badly. Among other things, all shadows were pitch black and devoid of detail.

It runs perfectly; sharp image, soft running, be able to read any format of DVD, free zone, easy to use remote control, running in synchronization with my other Sony components, receiver and television.

I must tell you that: it is a fine product; you will not do a mistake in buying one like this one.

The unit came promptly and successfully played our DVDs and BluRays from Europe and North America as promised. Instructions were included in the package. The unit works great out of the box. Will explore some of the many options later.

Supports HiRes Audio and 4K, all regions, all blu ray discs, easy to use, best picture quality, but, sometimes, the player reset by itself, usually during playing 4K content. Covid-19 made our home to a cinema, but there are no many players around in 2021, because of the streaming services, but NOTHING compares to physical media in sound and picture quality.

Also, read discs very fast, my older BD-Player takes much longer time to read discs. Remote very comfortable and user friendly.

Awesome is the word ! All players should have the same capabilities as this. At these prices it is a wise replacement for any Blue ray player. Broaden your horizons. It plays our local discs even better than the ones designed for us here in the U.

S. I’ve got an entirely new library to build based on films that aren’t yet made on blue ray for American audiences yet. Now I don’t have to wait, I can have them Now!.

Its only been 3 weeks since Ive got this player. At first, I had a little trouble figuring out how to setup the regional feature correctly. But I know that Sony makes good products. Which is why I highly recommend this player to anyone who is is not looking to spend a fortune on a good player.

Frankly, I think its the most versatile player Ive ever owned. I have an LG Blu Ray player. But doesnt compare to this one. This is definitely better than my LG.

If you’re primarily looking for a streaming device, I would not get this player. After just a couple of hours of streaming YouTube for instance, it will begin to stutter and the response to the remote will begin to lag by as much as 5 or 10, sometimes 15 seconds.

I’m assuming it’s a buffer problem. You’ll have to turn it off for 20-30 seconds, then find the video again. The same thing happens with Netflix and Tubi, but takes longer to happen. Every 2-3 weeks the main menu locks up completely upon turning it on, and doesn’t respond to the remote at all, even the power button.

This requires the unit to be unplugged for at least 3 minutes. As a BluRay/DVD player it’s sharp and crystal clear, BUT if you use the subtitles and then turn them off, for the rest of the movie you will see every sign and on-screen text in the movie displayed in whatever language is last in the subtitles options.

For example, say the subtitle options are English, French, and Spanish – if you use the English subtitles for one scene in the movie and then turn the subtitles off, you will see a Spanish translation of every sign in the movie for the rest of the movie.

Very annoying.

My goodness how things change in just a few short years. We purchased this Sony HD Blu-ray Player to replace our not too old one (which also had a 1TB internal hard drive, which was useful in its day, but BBC iPlayer and other viewing platforms have made this a redundant requirement).

I read the specifications and the reviews and liked what I read, so I purchased it with confidence. I cannot believe the size of it; it is so small compared to the old one. BUT, what a fantastic bit of kit and it has Internet capability to view all the viewing platforms.

It took longer to disconnect the old one than it did to connect up the new one. It is connected to my sound bar system which was a simple cable plug in. I am most impressed that it has its own transformer power supply to enable it to run on just 12 volts.

I must also mention it is so quite and very simple to use. I LOVE IT.

We were upgrading our dvd player from an older samsung 3D bluray player and also from an older Sony DVD player (not bluray). The old players always seemed to take a very long time to load and buffer the dvd.

Menu clicks via the remotes also took a long time. Like click the button, wait 5-8 seconds (sometimes longer). But this new sony is crazy fast – as fast loading and navigating as streaming services. We can’t believe it.

We’re not using any of the smart apps or features e. g. netflix or hulu. We’re just using this a straight up DVD player. Regular (non-bluray) DVD’s seem to play crisper and brighter on screen, not sure if the resolution is being upscaled or something.

We were only looking to upgrade our aging dvd players – and this sony is perfect. We’re thrilled. After trying it out for a week, I went back and bought another. Love the small remote and and that we could also program the remote to our TV (change volume, inputs, etc).

Great basic player. Incredibly simple and easy to use, as these things should be at this point. Plug and play and works quickly. Small physical footprint and lightweight so easy enough to hide away until you need it.

Really good picture quality I guess, though that’s also impacted by the disc itself and the tv, so. Important to note that it doesn’t come with HDMI cable. Box is clearly labelled as such, so you need your own or buy one separately.

My first thought was “what a pain and that’s dumb” but after putting a little more thought into it I think it’s a good idea: I had two extras, so it’s probably a smart thing to do these days vs having *more* unneeded cables in the world, and it lowers the cost a bit.

Probably accurate to say many people who would buy this are replacing a previous unit that died, so you probably already have the cable. You can feel like you’re saving the planet if you are so inclined, or simply feel practical at not having one more excess cable in that drawer we all have.

I was super excited to get the Philips Blu-Ray and DVD Player – BDP1502/F7. We had just purchased a brand new camping trailer for the upcoming season. My family is huge campers, with 3 little kids and me and my daughter.

We need entertainment at the end of the day to unwind. This Blue-Ray combination DVD is perfect for our camper. It’s lightweight and small enough to fit right over the TV set up. The installation was simple (the player does not come with the HDMI cable, so make sure you have one handy before you install it).

The instructions are user-friendly. The Philips comes with remote control (the AAA batteries are not included) that is not too big or not too small it’s the perfect size for your hand or even smaller hands the control are easy to read.

Philips, the leader in electronic products, doesn’t disappoint with its excellent performance. It plays both the Blue-Ray and DVD, which is perfect for our collection. I highly recommend this player!.

The BDP-S6700 is a very good upscaler to your 4K tv, but with a bit of a catch. The picture quality is on par with an actual 4K player. It has some okay app selection not the best, but in all honesty apps on a bluray player isnt necessary especially if you have a 4K tv, which most units ship with a crazy amount of apps anyway.

So the downside is, if you have a Dolby Atmos reciever like I do, you will have to turn off the 24p mode for video playback in 4K upscale in the Screen Settings menu, which makes it play in regular 1080pHD.

But the plus side of this, they do have a function called SBM, set it to on, that way you won’t get pixelization from movement on your 4K tv, it smooths the motion on the video. I’ve noticed that issue on my regular bluray player, it would have pixelated ghosting if you when comnected to a 4K tv, especially during fast movement.

Summary This unit is definitely worth the money especially the lack of content on 4K UHD discs, this unit allows you to watch your current collection without having to upgrade to UHD bluray. Its roughly half the price from an actual 4K UHD player.

Aside from the little gripes mentioned, its a great investment. Side note. Not all blurays are encoded with Dolby Atmos, so you will still be able to watch 90%+ of your collection in 4K mode. Hope this helps someone that doesnt want to break the bank but enjoy 4K playback with their current bluray collection.

First off, don’t be confused by the title. This is NOT a 4K player, it’s a standard Blu-ray player with a 4K algorithm. What the heck does that mean? It means that this player will play standard DVDs, and Blu-ray DVDs plus CDs too.

But it will not play 4K discs. What it will do it pretty cool though. If you have a 4K TV, and you play a Blu-ray disc (or even a standard DVD) it will use that 4K algorithm to fill in all the extra pixels on your TV will the correct colors and resolution, meaning that your discs, especially Blu-ray discs will look very, very close to as crisp, clear and vivid as 4K discs would look.

Think of it this way: Standard Blu-ray discs are high-definition; however 4K Blu-Ray discs are ultra-high-definition (about 4 times as many pixels) So, the algorithm in this player says, to make this look like 4K, I need to fill in a lot more pixels with information.

But what color/brightness etc. should I make those extra pixels? And then it interpolates, asking itself well, if this pixel, on someone’s face for example, is this color, hue, tint and saturation, then what should these other nearby pixels be? And then fills in those remaining pixels with the correct parameters.

The bottom line is, while it’s not true 4K, it looks make a standard Blu-ray disc look pretty much indistinguishable from true 4K, and it takes a standard DVD and makes it look a heckuva lot better.

I brought this Blu-ray player 10 days ago to replace an existing Blu-ray player from a different manufacturer that was starting to have issues reading DVDs and Blu-rays due to the slot loader. I decided it purchase this Sony Blu-ray player due to the excellent reviews that I had read online, the fact that it was a tray loader rather than a slot loader and also I currently have a Sony Bravia TV which I am still happy with after many years.

It also means that I can use the one remote to control both the TV and Blu-ray player. It also doesn’t take up as much room as my previous Blu-ray player. It was very easy to set up straight out of the box as I have it connected to the internet using an ethernet cable.

I haven’t had an chance to try out the Bluetooth or DLNA, however as mentioned in the review title it upscales DVDs with an excellent picture quality and sound. It also handles Blu-ray discs with excellent picture quality and sound.

The only reason why I have given this Blu-ray player an overall rating of 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the lack of apps. It doesn’t even have all the on-demand apps for the main public service broadcasters which is one let down.

Hopefully Sony will take note and add more on-demand apps, even if it is just for all the main public service broadcasters.

Already gave you a review here. As I said before, I purchased one in January and within 30 days it kept losing connectivity with my modem when watching prime movies. I could watch the same movies in full on my iPhone through my modem with no problems.

Amazon replaced LG Blu-ray earlier this month and I’m experiencing the same problems with the replacement new product. My conclusion is that there is a problem with this model and I’m not looking for a replacement again, but I will not use or not purchase another LG in the future.

I advise LG Tech to redesign the unit and pay strict attention to the connectivity card quality. It is very frustrating to keep connecting and simply not worth it. CM and PM.

My old DVD/CD player didn’t have HDMI connections and my new LG TV only has HDMI ports so needed to buy new player. This linked up to my new LG 4K NANO CELL TV perfectly. I recommend reading/downloading’s the user manual first.

DVD has great picture with new TV also DVD & CDs sound great through my surround sound setup. I don’t have the Wi-Fi setup for the Apps because I have a Smart TV so it’s not needed (can’t rate that).

The Remote is small but there is also a Remote option via an App you can download if needed which is nice. I’ve only had this for about a month and don’t use often but so far I like this player and recommend especially if you have a new LG TV.

I purchased this player “open box. ” The first thing I noticed upon opening the box was that there was no remote. OOPS! I guess someone forgot to indicate that upon packaging it for resale. Fortunately I have it attached to an LG smart tv with a universal remote, so not a huge issue.

It plays Blu-Ray and DVD as any normal player should. I’m not using the streaming since I have all of those apps on my tv. I agree with others that things are very slow to load through the streaming if you try it.

The interface software is also exceedingly simple. Overall, a good enough player. It does its job.

It functions and plays both Blu-ray and DVD disks. Have LG TV it works great with and the TV remote and player remote both seem to work seemlessly letting me do stuff without needing two remotes most of the time.

Feel a little cheap and low end and I regret not getting a 4k player for $40-50 more which seem like it would have been a longer term value – but this meets the need. Paid full price which was at the time $79 – but I would only expect to pay about $50 for something of this size and build (plastic) quality.

Look for it on sale or refurbished and I think you will be happy with it – but at full price you might regret paying so much when you probably could have gotten a better 4k player for not much more.

I had a Sony DVD player which was 15 years old and decided it was time to upgrade to something more modern. The initial set up was straight forward, or so it seemed. However, the sound was still coming through the tv even though an Audio Quest co-axial connector linked the player to my Marantz amp, along with an ordinary HDMI lead to the telly.

Thinking there was a fault I went back to the Leicester store, was prepared to swap it for something else and pay the price difference. Having explained the problem I was experiencing, James immediately recognised what I hadn’t done.

He set it up, to demonstrate what needed doing, and showed me that I hadn’t adjusted the digital audio output, on audio settings, to PCM. Having made the adjustment, he said everything should be fine.

It certainly is. It’s now wired up to the amp and I invested in an Audio Quest HDMI lead to connect it to the tv. It now works a treat. The sound through my QAcoustics speakers is fabulous and there’s an improvement on the picture quality with older DVD’s.

The more recent ones also look a lot better. For many years Richer Sounds in Leicester has been my go to store for all things hi-fi, because staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. There was no need to pay for a more expensive player, because James solved the problem.

It was bought to replace an ageing DVD player that we use to play concert and opera videos in a music appreciation group. It does this superbly well and I expect it to work equally well with Blu-rays.

So 5 stars for that. The Wi-Fi facility was also very attractive as we also streamed internet performances via a laptop and I thought this would take its place. Unfortunately the Wi-Fi facility is limited to a very few apps, eg Youtube.

It doesn’t give access to general internet content. It does offer access to a potentially useful site or two with its built-in apps, eg in our case the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, but this requires users to register and there’s no way that I have found that lets me do this.

So a grudging 1 star for this facility.

I spoke to Dave twice last week; knew exactly what I was looking for and recommended this Sony player. Made everything this so simple. This Sony BDPS3700 is a super little blu-ray/dvd player which also plays dvd’s from other regions (just what I needed) the box is about 10″ x 10″ very light.

Also easy to set up (had to buy an HDMI cable as well as not supplied) I’m not using the online connection (haven’t investigated that yet!) The remote not so robust (have found that with several good brand goods) Only a week in and have only used twice but I’m content with it thus far.

Bought this to replace another new blu-ray purchased from another online retailer. That one was fine, but it wouldnt open the disc drawer. At all. No complaint with the service from the supplier or the manufacturer.

Its just one of those things, but I wasnt going to go back for to the same place for another opportunity to have the same experience. This Sony is the better of the two though, so it all turned out for the best.

I have yet to explore all of its features, but it plays the discs very nicely, the picture quality is good and the drawer always opens when you ask it to.

Excellent picture and works Great. No delay, no skips. And razor sharp, even in regular DVD. I thought I had a problem with skipping while playing Blu-Ray, but my Blu-Ray disc was just smudged. Once I cleaned the disc.

It ran perfectly. This will work fine for me in my RV. Even when I don’t have electricity and sometimes rely on 12 volt battery. I bought an extra remote since you can’t operate the player without one.

This BDP-3700 was chosen after some spec comparison and review reading. The initial unit was open box and worked well but the remote had been swapped out for one with leaking battery damage, so both were returned.

The second unit was new and worked perfectly. After a simple install the player was up and all focus turned to the remote button layout and GUI for user experience. I will say for the disk playing; it works well, the image and audio are excellent.

But the transport buttons on the remote are awkward and simple tasks like hitting pause take some effort to locate and perform. The buttons lacks tactile ID and they blend together. To compound this he main control buttons (Top Menu, Pop up Menu, Return, Options) seem to be mislabeled or at least don’t follow reason.

They can be learned but the remote could do with overall increased button spacing, better grouping and labeling. The Streaming controls like Netflix or Youtube work well but the latency is much longer than say a Roku interface.

The button press to response can take seconds. One nice feature that I do enjoy is when Youtube is paused, and you come back in several hours, your show is still cued up ready to play. On Roku a pause will timeout and you then have to navigate back to the show and where you left off.

I find it most convenient to keep both streaming controllers hooked up to make bouncing easier. Overall the player would get a 5 but the remote only a 3. But it’s compact and works, I’d buy it again.

It’s a decent Blu-ray player. The sound cuts every time you pause for a few seconds, and there’s no way to resign to the top menu without going to through a submenu on he remote. Also, the subtitles button on the remote actually doesn’t work, and you need to go through a submenu for that, too.

Also, I find it crazy that the “angle” icon comes up during certain scenes in certain movies, and there’s no way to turn that off. Other than that, it’s a decent player that does what it’s supposed to do.

I bought this player a couple of weeks ago to go with my LG Oled t. v. Great combination. The video quality is wonderful, as is the audio quality. On music it is different from my old Pioneer player–more solid on the bottom end, not as pronounced on the high end.

Setup is very straightforward and offers a lot of choices. Go through Home (button) and Settings carefully. One feature I will be turning off is the automatic link to the t. v. I do not like the t. v.

coming on automatically when I want to listen to a CD. The remote has a lot of features, including basic controls for the t. v. One button I miss from my old player remote is a subtitle button. Activate subtitles at movie setup.

It is possible later via the info/menu button on the remote but some times it is not the same as the subtitles on the movie setup.

Great Blu-Ray disc player for the price. Plays all formats and has features that more expensive players have. Set-up was very simple in fact it took only 5 minutes to get it up and running. The Blue-Ray discs loaded very fast, my old player took forever to load.

The only thing I’m not crazy about is the size of the remote control. It’s 1 3/4″ wide by 5 1/4″ long. I personally would of liked the remote to be a little bigger so my fingers don’t press two buttons at the same time and it fit my hand better.

It is also easy lose between cushions and gets hidden under stuff. All in all I love the player and the remote size is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars.

I bought a Denon Pro DN-500BD MK-2 and it has turned out to be a major disappointment especially at the price paid. The problems are in the USB and SD card MP3 functionality or lack there of. The following is list of problems with the functionality firmware.

1. When you add a folder of an artist with MP3 s under the “ALL” folder it does not place it in alphabetical order instead it puts it as the last folder in the menu. 2. The menus do not loop instead if you at Z and want to go to A if have to back all the way back to the beginning.

This wastes a lot of time. 3. If you are playing a given folder and want the player to continue with another folder when you highlight a song in the next folder it does not play. This requires you to babysit the player full time.

And by the way I have a $35 LG player model DP-132 that does this automaticcaly. 4. Now if you go to the music folder it does not have any sub folders as in Artists and then albums. Instead it has the total amount of songs on the thumbdrive or SD card and they not in alphabetical or any other sort order.

If you have a few hundred songs you could spend a month of Sundays trying to find it. 5. The remote play , stop , pause and other function buttons do not work with MP3s. 6. To me all of my complaints are about what should be basic functionality on any player especially on an expensive Pro player.

I have taken it out of service because of the reasons listed above and gone back to using my old $35 LG player. I have contacted technical support 3 times requesting a firmware fix to these problems and they shown zero interest in doing anything to solve these stupid problems.

I believe your company should fire your software programmers and hire them from LG company. Thanks a lo Denont for your expensive garbage Donald K Bazille.

This a huge step up from our previous DVD player – it’s lightweight and easy to use, which is important for us since our department travels with it frequently. It’s one of the last players with XLR connections, which makes it incredibly easy to connect speakers for larger events.

I bought this blu ray player about 4 months ago and I’d have to say I’m not happy with it. I dont really care for commercials so I use this to watch netflix. I do watch Netflix quite often or even watch it while im being a mom, cooking and cleaning and when it works it works really well.

Examples: Just now I hit the back button twice and chose a different show to watch on Netflix it took a long time to load and then went back to the show I just left. I understand that it’s similar to a computer and I may have confused it by pressing the buttons to quickly which is why I understood why it took a couple minutes to work itself out.

This sounds like a silly thing but it’s always something. Let’s say I turn the blu ray player on 4 times a day with it being off for hours before turning it back on. Out of those 4 times 2 or 3 of them I’ll have to turn off the player and turn it back on because it will bring up a blank white screen with no options to choose what I want to do.

While the blank screen is up using the menu or home key does nothing. The play/pause button I have two issues with. If you press play to hard it will play the show for 1 second and then pause again OR when you press play it has a slow reaction time so if you don’t realize you hit the button and you press it again it will then pause again.

I’m 27 and I have had multiple devices with several remotes and I know how to work them and this has never been an issue til now. This is something small but over time gets more and more frustrating.

Another issue there are times where it will stop to buffer and it will reach 99% quickly but once it gets to 99% the loading symbol just continues to spin and it doesn’t get anywhere. When this happens turning it off and on will not do anything because it’s frozen at this point.

I’ve had to unplug it completely and plug it back in for it to work. Imagine being MID episode and having to get up unplug it plug it back in, wait for it to load the home screen again, then wait for it to load netflix, then wait for it to load your profile, then going back to where you left off its not a quick process.

Not often but every now and then it will start to skip. Not where it stops to buffer no it skips as if it were a DVD with scratches on it but no its Netflix. When watching amazon prime without fail every single time I can watch 2 and a half episodes at MAX before it completely closes out mid episode and takes me back to the home screen and I can’t go back in unless I unplug it and plug it back in.

Again turning it off and back on doesn’t work I tried several times. Sometimes I can’t even watch just one episode but usually I get an episode and a half before it does this. And again it’s every single time.

I did test it out on my tablet with Amazon prime and my brother on his tablet and no issues that way. I’d say the quality of the streaming netflix is not so bad. I bought the 2nd cheapest player they had at Walmart and I know you get what you pay for.

I didn’t expect anything fancy but this is not at all what I expected. My old blu ray player was extremely slow but with way less problems. They had an update and it didn’t do anything. This isn’t even all of the issues I have had with it but it’s late and I can’t remember the rest.

Upon playing the first DVD I was not happy with this player. The picture didn’t have the clarity that it should, contrast was too dark. I then remembered the Roku setup I have had the same problem , which is why I stopped using it to watch Internet video.

I used the Roku hdmi cable to connect the LG player (this you will need, it is not provided ). Since the Roku and LG player both had dark images, I switched HDMI inputs but used the HDMI/DVI input this time.

problem solved. great picture. I think it is more the HDMI internal wiring itself than the input used, so do some research before purchasing. This player plays computer made DVD s that my old player had problems with.

It is small but does it’s job wonderfully. The remote is a bit small but not bad, just the buttons needed. simple, takes up less drawer space. I would buy again, happy.

I was looking for a blu-ray player that just plays blu-rays. I have a Roku so no need for all the online/wifi bells and whistles. Just give me a good image and ease of use. This also leaves a small footprint which I appreciate.

I’m really please with this purchase. The options for set up, especially for older DVD’s with non HD/Wide screen material is better than my prior more expensive players. For the newer content with 96Hz sampling.

this unit offers that options, which is awesome as I have a few blu-rays that are mastered at 96hz. Also i have a 2. 1 system and so it sounds fantastic with PCM and also does great if I want to do a 2.

This is my first Blue-Ray player purchase. The Sony BDP-BX370 Blue-ray Disc/DVD Player comes with an HDMI cable, power supply, remote, and batteries and makes the setup process easy. If you have Wi-Fi, setup includes being allowed to access your network for the purpose of streaming.

Make sure that you have your password handy because you will need it. Although the player has limited pre-loaded apps and, even though I haven’t tried it yet, there is an option for downloading additional apps.

My purpose is to review this particular product, and also attempt to clear up some hype about Full HD DVD, burning, and playing on Blue-ray players that seems to be circulating, with hopes in helping you select the RIGHT product when it comes to viewing Full HD DVDs.

Full HD DVDs CAN be burned using a regular DVD player and regular DVD disks, but, with proper (and inexpensive) software, can ONLY be played on Blue-ray players, such as this one, with excellent results when properly formatted using AVCHD software.

In adhering to the review guidelines, I can not mention the software that I used, but it IS available and it WORKS. A little time and effort in research is all that is required online. Just keep your burner and download the software.

I do own a camera that is capable of capturing video in Full HD. I shot some video clips of one of my grandson’s baseball games this past summer. Even though the video files were captured in Full HD (1920 * 1080), normal DVD burning software will only burn it in SD.

When it comes to watching Full HD, the difference in the playing quality between a DVD player and Blu-ray is remarkable and was definitely worth the purchase price. Unless you are wanting more features than what this one provides, I don’t think you can go wrong with this one.

A basic plug and play device that serves my purpose easily.

Love the ability to use a usb stick to play videos and music, including. mp4 video which many blu ray players with this feature do not allow. The picture quality is amazing. The remote is sluggish to respond most times, and you often have to press the remote botton more than once for whatever function you are trying to operate for the player to finally respond.

The biggest drawback is, that I spent more and purchased this player for its wi-fi and Bluetooth ability. The wi-fi works great. But the Bluetooth is dead. It does not work. I went online to look for a fix, but instead, I found many other owners of this player with the same problem looking for a fix because, while other blu tooth devices do detect the Sony player, the Sony player does not detect Bluetooth speakers, Bluetooth headphones, or even cell phones.

And Sony has provided NO update of fix for this inexcuseable issue.

I used to own a bluray player that’s able to play multi region code DVD, but sadly it did not last. Bought the new Sony bluray player, like it’s amazing compact size. However there’s not indication on timer on player, that’s perfectly fine as am able to activate on screen if need be time lapse of movie.

Most disappointing is the fact it only plays region 3 DVD. Come on, what era are we living that one needs to have code for specific region. People travel and there’s tendency to purchase discs from all over the world.

This could be the very reason that DVD discs popularity are declining compared to streaming due to such curbs. End up I got another Philips DVD player that truly plays multi region DVDs. I am sure there are lots of unhappy reviews written about the fact it only plays region 3 DVD and is not multi region, but Sony is not listening.

So far so good. Plugged my hard drive in which is what I wanted for and so far no issues playing files. Or the NTFS hard drive. I have mkv. Mp4. Avi mostly. I didn’t turn on fast loaf as don’t really need it.

Goes we’ll with my Sony TV. I did notice one thing but all the time but overly loud either. Is when you pause a disc there is a sight humm it vibration now and again. I highly recommend so far. Set the media server up so it plays files from my computer.

Love that it has WiFi. And don’t need a cable to do so. No complaints yet.

I bought this for my mother in law for christmas , and was so impressed with it, that I bought one for myself a couple months later. I’ve had 2 other blu ray players, and this one kicks them to the curb in everyway, except that my last one did do 3D (not that I ever used that feature) and this model is just the 2D version.

Probably the best thing about this one IMO is that it turns on INSTANTLY, the first bluray player I had took about 2 min. to turn on, my last one was faster but still took a good 15 seconds to get going, but this one is ready as soon as I hit the button.

It has a ton of apps that you can use, and to be honest, a lot of them are garbage apps no one will use but boost the “number of apps available” to like 300 I think it says, but it’s nice to have options, and there’s some I do use.

My other player only had Netflix, Hulu, vudu, and like 2 others, so at least this one has options. The wifi works very well, things load much quicker on this player than my other ones even though my internet is the same.

And I love that I can effortlessly mirror my phones screen on my tv through this bluray player, it’s even easier to cast my phone screen to this than to my chromecast, you don’t even need an additional app, if your phone can screen mirror you should be good togo ( I have a samsung galaxy s4 active btw) This is equipped with Playstation Now, so you could play some playstation 3 games on your tv through your blu ray player, but I don’t have a Playstation controller nor have I ever signed up for playstation online gaming (which requires a subscription I believe) so I haven’t tried that out yet, but it would be cool.

Too bad everything I have is for xbox 360. The setup is user friendly, quick, and easy. No problems there with anything, and I do like the usb port in the front, I have a hard drive plugged in with a bunch of movies on it, and they play without any kind of problems.

I am not sure which video formats it supports entirely, all of mine were either mp4 or AVI, because that’s pretty much all my old Toshiba player would support, so I know that this Sony one at least works with those, not sure about MKV or anything else.

The unit itself is about half the size of my other bluray players, so it doesn’t take up nearly as much shelf room, plus it looks sleek (which most of them do anyway), so that’s nice. About the only negative I see about this blu ray player is that the remote is about half the size of most remote controls, so it is easier to lose, and it doesn’t have a keyboard on it to quickly type in a movie to search foron Netflix or what have you (which most remotes don’t have either, so it’s not specifically a knock against this one, just more against all manufacturers nowadays.

Why not just include that with the standard remote since almost everyone is watching, and searching for videos to play?). If this was too long to read then hopefully you just skipped to this part where I say it is a great blu ray player with plenty of features, highly recommend it.

Probably the most bang for your buck.
