As with the first part, the new album “consistently combines songs you know, often heard — although you may not know exactly the title or artist,” as director James Gunn said about the hit compilation album for “Vol.
1”. Due to the success of its predecessor, Gunn had more budget this time — and was therefore able to dig even deeper into the Classic song trick box: from George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord” to Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” (where, according to US Rolling Stone, all the band members viewed the relevant scene personally and only then their Release) and “Mr.
Blue Sky” by ELO is all there to sound, according to Gunn, “the most crazy scene I’ve ever shot. It’s the perfect opening song for this film because it is absolutely omitted, but also has such a gloomy element,” as he continued to say to US magazine.
In addition, he once again enjoyed integrating another overlooked song — including “Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang” by One-Hit-Wonder Silver, which surfaced a wave of success about 40 years ago. Other hits are by Sweet, Parliament, Sam Cooke and Cat Stevens.
The title of this album speaks volume in itself with music from the greatest era of modern music – the seventies. The music ranges from classic rock to glam, pyschedelic, folk and some cheesy pop. There are some massive artists on here such as Fleetwood Mac and some one hit wonders but all deservedly earning their place within the galaxy.
The vinyl version comes in a double gate with the soundtrack on one record and the score on the other.
For purist out there and oldies music lovers this is a great record. With quality that makes your feel like you’re transported in time or re watching the guardians movies. It’s loaded with multiple records and all the best songs.

aptain America’s Civil War is a blast of a Marvel movie, though like many recent Marvel offerings it is dragged down a bit by the Marvel formula. After the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier the world is hunting Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier).
With the added problems of the devastation caused during Avengers: Age of Ultron and collateral damaged that occurs in the opening of this film, the world governments come together to demand a new level of oversight over the Avengers.
Iron Man wants to acquiesce to these demands due to his part in creating Ultron; Captain America wants to refuse as he feels government organizations are too easily corrupted after learning Hydra had been infiltrating SHIELD for years.
Honestly, this movie is really Avengers 2. 5 rather than a Captain America sequel. It does do a great job of continuing Steve Rogers’ story and tying things together nicely around his friendship with Bucky, but enough of the other characters get their own arcs that it feels like a group movie.
After a brief flashback to 1980 where we get to see Peter Quill’s mother, Meredith (Laura Haddock) having a romantic encounter with a man who appears to be Peter’s mysterious father, GotG2 picks things up at what seems like a few months after the end of the first film, with the Guardians – Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and now-baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) getting ready to protect some highly valuable Anulax batteries from a giant marauding space beast.
We soon learn that they were hired for the job by a high priestess named Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), the supreme leader of a gold-skinned and rather arrogant race called the Sovereigns, who apparently don’t like getting their hands dirty or putting themselves personally at risk.
As part of their payment, the Sovereigns hand over Gamora’s step-sister Nebula (Karen Gillan) whom they happen to have captive. But things quickly go south when Rocket decides to help himself to some of the Sovereigns’ precious batteries because “Hey, they were really easy to steal!” The subsequent pursuit by the outraged Sovereigns sets everything in motion and leads to the introduction of some new characters – Ego (Kurt Russell), a Celestial who claims to be Peter’s father, and Mantis (Pom Klementieff), an eager-to-fit-in but rather naive empath who serves Ego – along with the reappearance of Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker), leader of the band of Ravagers who abducted and then essentially raised Peter from when he was a boy.
One note: while GotG2 is a lot of fun to watch, I felt it didn’t measure up to the first film in terms of smoothness of flow. The best scenes are when the Guardians are in action and/or when they’re interacting with each other, and there are plenty of both throughout the film.
But that said, a lot of the purpose of GotG2 is to provide both background on the characters and, to a lesser degree, some setup for what will come next, and in doing so, there are a number of places in the film where the pace stumbles a bit due to one or more characters having to engage in what is generally called lumpy exposition.
This is why I gave the film 4 stars instead of 5. It’s the only reason, mind you, and the film is still pretty awesome overall, but at the same time these exposition lumps, however necessary they may be, do slow things down a bit.
But there is a lot of heart in this film, just as there was in the first, and GotG2 does succeed in deepening our understanding of – and affection for – the Guardians as a group and as individuals. The most apt exchange defining this is when Nebula fumes to Gamora “All you do is yell at each other.
You’re not friends!” To which Drax responds “No. We are family. ” Highly recommended to any fan of the MCU franchise and to anyone who enjoys good, fun space opera with a healthy dose of heart. PS – (1) There are a lot of cameos and Easter eggs in this film.
Too many to list here. I suggest googling for them so you’ll know what to watch for in the movie. (2) There are 5 credits/after-credits scenes at the end of GotG2. (3) The film also has a recurring “crazy credits” going on so keep an eye on the credits themselves as they scroll by.
Love these two films, but I feel cheated. Disney is actually pulling a fast one on ALL of their MARVEL 4k discs. NONE of these are native 4k. ALl MARVEL films are mastered in 2k. buch closer in resolution to regular BluRay.
They are simply UPSAMPLING them for 4k, thus outright LYING on their video packaging, when they say that these MARVEL films are 4x the quality of BluRay. It is not true. Disney really needs to be stopped from being dishonest with their product and BestBuy should honestly get rid of some of this.
your video department is 33% Disney – repeated over and over again in several spots. One section would be more than enough and then send the rest back and expand your title library. Listen to your customers for a change.

This is an enjoyable thrill ride that is also supported by a great cast of characters. There is a great dynamic between the three film genres of Science Fiction, Action and Comedy. This is entertaining from the very beginning to the final credits.
I am so stoked that this adventure with Starlord and the gang will be coming back for more hijinx, tomfoolery and monkeyshines. The Marvel Universe is stellar and this is a very well driven vehicle. A genuine blockbuster.
Buckle up and just enjoy the ride. You will not be the least bit disappointed. Damn! I do have a way with words. I shoulda been a film critic because this review is just 100% spot on. Your welcome. The Guardians are waiting for you to enjoy their past, present and future adventures.
The question is, “Can you handle it?” One would like to think that the answer is yes.
I went 4 times in the theater, including one that was 3D, and I never liked 3D until this one!! Script, characters, acting, editing, everything was superb in this film. I am almost 65 and found ALOT to like about this film, now that I’m older & wiser.
Perfect, no, but my constructive criticisms are subtle ones or minor compared to the deep human themes that are portrayed. I laughed and cried every time I saw this movie, and I’m buying a copy so I can watch it at home too.
I compare my experience with this movie as “imagine that you are in Paris and taste chocolate mousse or creme brulee for the first time at a top restaurant”–it’s that flavorful!!.
This is a positively entertaining film while being and quite hilarious in many cases. Cast / Characters have excellent chemistry on screen. Story line / plot is fairly good. Loaded with classic rock from the 70’s / early 80’s.
The score was nicely done. This sequel is much better than the original and clean enough for the entire family. Get the popcorn popping. I highly recommend this film.

Featuring a genre-crossing compilation of artists including, Electric Light Orchestra, Fleetwood Mac, The Sneepers featuring David Hasselhoff and original music by Tyler Bates, Vol. 2 is sure to be legendary.
Great soundtrack. The film score by Bates is great. Plus you also get everything on Starlord’s mix tape, which includes some absolutely excellent songs. The vinyl itself is a great color and I was pleased that it had no warping like many Target releases do.
That said, the spindle hole is incredibly tight on my copy and it is extremely difficult to take the record off. That’s why I give it four stars.
I purchased this as a Christmas present. I had purchased the first volume for them last year from Walmart and wanted to continue the collection for this individual. I was expecting ( as advertised) a total of two records with a variety of songs on each vinyl record.
So a few weeks go by. The person whom I gifted it to, called to me, to make me aware they had gotten the same record twice instead of (1).
Great album from great soundtrack. The image shown is not the version I purchased. The one shown has soundtrack only the actual deluxe version that I purchased has a different cover art and includes the original score on side D.
A group of interstellar outlaws team up to save the galaxy from a villain who seeks ultimate power in this comic book space adventure from Marvel Studios and director James Gunn (Slither, Super). Peter Quill was just a young boy when, devastated by his mother’s death, he sprinted out of the hospital and was swept into the stars by Yondu (Michael Rooker), the leader of an eclectic band of space scavengers known as The Ravagers.
Twenty-six years later, Quill has adopted the nickname Star Lord (Chris Pratt). He’s broken away from The Ravagers in an attempt to track down an ancient orb that is also coveted by the evil Ronan (Lee Pace), who is in league with the dreaded Thanos, and who dispatches his top assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana) to retrieve it from Star Lord.
In the process of doing so, Gamora also gets drawn into a fight with furry bounty hunter Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper) and his tree-like, humanoid companion Groot (voice of Vin Diesel). Subsequently thrown into prison, this unlikely quartet quickly makes the acquaintance of fearsome warrior Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), who seeks bitter revenge for the slaughter of his entire family at the hands of Ronan.
In the process of making a daring prison break, Star Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Groot, and Drax recover the orb, and transport it to The Collector (Benecio Del Toro), who reveals that it houses an Infinity Gem – one of six precious stones that harbors incredible powers that could pose a dire threat should they fall into the wrong hands.
Later, Ronan acquires the Infinity Gem and plots to use its power to destroy The Nova Corps home-world of Xandar, The Guardians of the Galaxy must race through the stars to recover it before Ronan can carry out his genocidal plan.
Great movie that took me by surprise. I never thought much of this film but the trailer got me into it. I loved the music theme that the film had. It made me connect with it. Chris Pratt stole much of his scenes, but Zoe and Bradley Copper gave much help with their performances.
I actually cared for Rocket and a tree when they teamed up to take the power of the stone. Guardians of the Galaxy established much of the Infinity Stones and it showcased the absolute power of Thanos from a small scene.
Ronan was not special but he terrorized Xander without anyone stepping up until the Guardians took the first step.
Love this movie, but expected more from the disc. This 4k version is another example of Disney not really caring about quality releases to movie fans. The picture quality is nearly identical to it’s blu-ray counterpart, with only very minor upticks in resolution from time to time.
The Dolby Atmouse. er. Atmos presentation is ( in Disney fashion ) very low in volume and low end extention. The many action scenes and explosions in this film lacked any kind of punch or rumble. I double-dipped, because I already owned the blu-ray ( and excellent 3-D version ).
This is the introduction to the Guardians of the Galaxy series within the Marvel Comic Universe. It very entertaining with a great plot, hilarious characters and lots of action. This is one of the best movies in the MCU.
Though each of the characters have their own interests, they save the best for each other. They form a group that stands against the evil Kree empire. Through twists and turns throughout the plot, these misfits, fit in, to save the Galaxy.
Mr. Blue Sky, Fox on the Run, Lake Shore Drive, The Chain, Bring It on Home to Me, Southern Nights, My Sweet Lord, Brandy, Come a Little Bit Closer, Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang, Surrender, Father and Son , Flash Light, Guardians Inferno.
This is an awesome soundtrack it is fun and enjoyable to listen to. The best songs on this soundtrack are all of them. If you have not listened to this soundtrack then I recommend you do
the cd came in an unbelievable short time. Most of my purchases have always been late. The quality of the cd is great. Very, very happy about this purchase.
If you enjoyed this fun movie you’ll love the soundtrack! Brings back a lot of memories from highschool but the younger love it too. Very well remastered original songs. Makes the old McIntosh hum with the music for which it was made!.

Forget ooo-sooo-serious Star Wars and silly cartoonish Avengers. Watch and listen to the fantastic Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2. Hilarious, smart, well-written and acted. This is an orginal concept that breathes fresh air into a tired, cookie-cutter genre.
The dialogue has so many jokes and puns and is so original don’t laugh too hard you’ll miss some great lines. The openings of 1 and 2 are alone worth the price. Way better soundtracks than above mentioned old school war horses.
Start the new year off with laughter, great music, crazy storyline, and become a guardian of the galaxy. But don’t take my word. listen to what the man/tree says ” I am Groot”. And that’s a fact Jack!.
This movie expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduces new and hilarious characters. It’s a battle between the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Kree civilization. It has plenty of action and humor.
I really like Guardians (1). Much better than 2. The movie is funny with plenty of action and a good story to tie into the rest of the Infinity Stone Saga. I also love the digital/Blu-ray format. I previously always bought the triple combo (w/ DVD) but almost all of my players now are Blu-ray so not a problem anymore not having DVD.
The digital is a must because my kids all enjoy watching them on phones or tablets. Great movie, and great format.

After the stumbling-bumbling Avengers video game, I really didn’t think we’d ever see anything else Marvel related coming from publisher Square Enix. Yet, surprisingly, here we are, and with Guardians of the Galaxy nonetheless.
This game literally seemed to manifest itself before us, like a galactic cruiser emerging through a multi-dimensional space portal. At first, the game wreaked of what came before with the aforementioned Avengers game, but the magical space-dust is in the details.
A single player experience that takes players on a story-driven adventure through the early days of the Guardians of the Galaxy, accompanied by action/rpg-inspired gameplay, and a vast variety of fanfare spread across a colorful and creative set of environments.
Even more surprising, the game delivers on almost everything promised, and somehow offers up even more in some wonderfully unexpected ways – it’s a strange dynamic at first. The first hour or so, mainly the tutorial stuff, is paced to feel somewhat restricted, but I wouldn’t say it’s any worse than when other games do this – it is something worth mentioning though.
Some might enjoy this time to learn the layout of the controls, and the feel of the overall combat dynamics, as most of the gameplay is built around giving your teammates demands via rpg-like trigger controls, while also controlling Star-Lord as a third-person action shooter.
All of it comes together rather comfortably on the controller, and allows for some really fun, engaging combat. In action, the gameplay is actually pretty simple, and while the game offers a good amount of variety, I could see some players becoming fatigued, or lulled, by the end of the experience.
I personally thought it held up for about 80% of my time it took to complete. However, where the gameplay eventually shows some cracks, the story here is 100% great, pure Guardians of the Galaxy. While this story is meant to be separate from the film, it clearly takes many inspirations – though I prefer this one much more.
I felt like the developers took everything and turned the knob to 11, really letting the players flourish in the experience of participating in the story and game. At times, it felt as if the game was seamlessly switching from a video game to a CG movie, and even came together to feel like an interactive film, all while still having its other gameplay elements still in tact.
Some moments in the story can carry on a little too long in-between the moments of raw gameplay, but never to the point of being annoying. Overall, this is truly a sleeper hit for me, coming out of nowhere, and then delivering far more than expected.
The deep, engaging story blended with fun and exciting combat makes for a lot of dazzle-dazzle, especially with the rad soundtrack. The game does suffer from some moments where the storyline either goes on for a little too long, or the gameplay might lull out, but in the end, the balance of everything carries the fun through to the credits.
I’d easily recommend this to anyone that simply enjoys a good, solid game – but if you’re a fan, then there’s even more here to be enjoyed.
After avengers I didn’t really expect square to do anything good with the marvel license. The gameplay reveal didn’t do it any favors for me either as I thought making Star Lord the only playable character was a dumb idea and I thought the combat also looked pretty boring.
Boy was I wrong and in situations like these I like being wrong. It’s a really fun game with surprisingly good writing. It’s not MCU quippy annoying and it’s not over the top, it’s really well done with nice characterization and fun mystery.
It also has a dialogue tree with Telltale style butterfly effects that makes the game ten times more interesting. The combat isn’t groundbreaking but it’s good at what it does. It’s like FF7R’s combat with a bigger focus on set roles (Gamora does heavy damage, Drax can stagger easily, Rocket is good at crowd control, and Groot is good at immobilization) and less so of the deep player choice RPG’s provide.
Simple as shooting and commanding whatever teammate you need in that moment to help you. Its a lot more fun than it sounds tho. Exploration is also pretty fun. Discovering upgrades and costumes around beautiful alien planets and space ships never got old.
It’s a good looking game and sounds good. I did get some audio glitches where it just wasn’t playing voices or sound effects but they were rare. I’ve also had 2 freezes where I had to restart the game.
The glitches didn’t really affect my enjoyment of the game but it’s worth noting. All in all it’s a good game, great even. I strongly recommend whether it’s full price or on sale (especially then) show those dumb guys at square that making good games is a good idea to get good money and to not make bad games.
Guardians of the Galaxy was far better than I expected it to be. If you happened to see that E3 trailer years ago you might have been like me and wrote the game off as uninteresting. Then with the disappointing release of the Avengers game you may have felt that Guardians of the Galaxy wasn’t worth giving a chance to.
Oh boy, was I wrong! I was amazed at how big this game is and that it somehow managed to pull off a touching story filled with that Guardians style of humor. The interactions between the characters is what really puts this game over the top.
Their dialogue was recorded together as a group and you can definitely tell the difference in how natural their many conversations feel. At first I was turned off by having a different cast for The Guardians of the Galaxy as I grew to know this group from the films.
By the end though, I loved this cast even more than the movie cast. The environments and locations in the game are well varied and interesting. The story is good with plenty of funny moments. Be sure to explore as you move throughout the game as there are many small and a few bigger moments you can miss.
The only place the game lacks is maybe in the gameplay and the occasional graphical bug or two you may encounter. As for the gameplay, you only get to play as Quill (Starlord) and you select both your own and your teammates’ special attacks.
Even though you will unlock new special attacks for each character as you level up and progress through the game, there is a lot of combat and it can start to feel a bit repetitive and tedious later on.
Overall I think the game is excellent! It’s fun, funny, and has a good story. What stands out most is the witty writing. If you are a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy then I can’t recommend this to you enough.
Join Marvel Studios’ most rag-tag group of unlikely heroes in this double feature, following the self-proclaimed “Guardians of the Galaxy” on their hilarious and action-packed galactic adventures. Included here are Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol.
Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite Marvel movie, so I was super excited when this finally came out on DVD. The 2nd one is not as good as the first, but both are very funny and have great soundtracks.
I watch these whenever I need a good pick-me-up. I don’t want to have to rely on a streaming service to have it when I need it, which is why I prefer the DVD. On my new OLED tv and Blu-ray player, the resolution is fabulous!.

Let’s start off with the bad: the gameplay kinda sucks. There’s a few waves of enemies per encounter, and you just sorta run around mindlessly blasting while waiting for the other guardians abilities to finish their cooldown.
Exploration isn’t that exciting either, while the environments are gorgeous the rewards range from a small pile of scrap (or *medium* pile! Lucky you!) to a costume for a guardian (ngl, those are pretty cool.
Costumes are a fun reward). It doesn’t help matters gameplay-wise on PS5 that your two video options are 4K at 30fps or 1080p that only *targets* 60fps. So all in all, not a very good game. HOWEVER, this *is* a fantastic movie.
Visuals are gorgeous (especially when playing at 4K30fps, the only time i recommended doing so), story is interesting, banter and conversations between characters is really fun, the music (both licensed and original) is top notch, the decision making aspect is really fun, this game is sorta like an episodic adventure like Telltale makes that has been restructured into being a third person shooter.
It’s kinda weird, ngl. But it’s also a lot of fun, and is easily worth the $30 I paid for it. If you’re stuck with a PS4, I’d hold out a while longer. This game doesn’t perform very well on last gen machines, and will be worth waiting to play on more powerful hardware.
I took a chance on this after being told by countless people that it’s an excellent game. I wasn’t wowed by The Avengers but I finally found this for a good price on the Deluxe. It doesn’t quite have the same charm of the movies but does delve deeper into each of their stories.
Fun things to do and awesome designs. The Deluxe comes with a cool glossy Steelbook, a nifty mini art book that was “good enough” and some digital codes for skins and such. Good value and a surprisingly good game story make this a great purchase if you can get it around $40.
Great purchase for those a fan of Guardians or looking for a great single-player campaign. This game is based of the comics and not the MCU characters and setting. I would’ve given it 5 stars but the collectors edition soundtrack include is not form in-game but music composed for the game.
This is a must for those loving the silly antics and will never stop from time you start the game through the closing credits. Also you only can play as Star Lord. This game brings a fresh single player campaign that you can sit at home and enjoy.

This is the sequel to one of my favorite movies, Guardians of the Galaxy. Like it’s predecessor, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is a very fun movie. It picks up where the first one leaves you, and like the original, it has a great balance of action and humor.
I’m not sure what genre this movie should fall into. It is an action movie, but not like your typical action movies. It is funny, but is not a comedy. These guys are really superheros, but this really isn’t a typical superhero movie.
I guess is would be a humorous, action-packed, science fiction superhero movie. I was worried when I saw the sequel coming out. I thought it would be hard to create a sequel as good as the original, especially with such a unique movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 succeeds in pretty much every way it conceivably could have. The first installment was terrific, being both fun and exciting to an extent most movies aren’t, and this new movie manages to be even better in every sense.
Questions raised during the previous movie are addressed, new characters are added into the mix while the already established characters are explored and given additional depth, and all of it is wrapped up in a fascinating story that is captivating and dramatic without taking itself too seriously.
Ignoring noise being carried in the medium of space, especially during what amounts to a fireworks display near the end, is really the biggest problem I have with this movie. and it’s not like that is a piece of poor filmmaking exclusive to this movie.
I’m glad that James Gunn is on board to helm Volume 3, because he has handled this franchise precisely the way it should be treated.

Though the musical heart of the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel is its stellar mix of ’70s pop-rock (Awesome Mix, Vol. 2), the movie has a terrific orchestral score too. Written by Tyler Bates (who also scored the film’s first chapter), the cues here—like the movie itself—range from the thunderous and heroic (“Ego,” “Gods,” “Vs.
The Abilisk”) to the surprisingly tender (“Sisters,” “A Total Hasselhoff”).

Love this film, a sequel that delivers. The characters and storyline all deliver in a high octane wonderful, really relatable yarn. With a phenomenal and powerful conclusion. If you enjoyed GoTG 1 Youll love this sequel even more.

Blu-ray – This big-budget, comic-book, sci-fi movie puts the fun back into massive summer action flicks. Based on the Marvel comic and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy follows the adventures of the most unlikely group of galactic heroes ever assembled.
The team includes a walking tree named Groot, his rodent pal Rocket Raccoon, Drax, a muscle-bound mutant bent on revenge, and Gamora, a green-skinned alien assassin with super strength and agility. Star Lord, a cocky earthling with a taste for classic rock, leads these unlikely saviors on a mission to keep the evil overlord Thanos from acquiring the Infinity Gem, a relic of cosmos-shattering power.
Can they put aside their personal differences long enough to save the galaxy from genocide?.
—POTENTIAL SPOILERS— This film focuses on introducing intergalactic adventurer Peter Quill/Star-Lord to the MCU. Quill, played by Chris Pratt (Parks Rec), has been a denizen of space since his abduction from Earth by Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker) and his Ravager clan in the 1980’s.
After a violent introduction and clash with Gamorra (Avatar’s Zoe Saldana), talking raccoon Rocket (voiced by Limitless’s Bradley Cooper), and anthropomorphic tree Groot (voiced by Fast Furious’s Vin Diesel) to gain control of what is later revealed to be an infinity stone, Quill and the scufflers are jailed.
In jail, space warrior Drax (WWE star Dave Bautista) is introduced during a tense stand-off with Gamorra, and the newly formed ragtag bunch vows to escape. In the end, this group of anti-heroes becomes friends- and then full fledged heroes- as they battle to keep the orb out of the enemy’s (Lee Pace as executioner Ronin) hands.
Gamorra’s sister Nebula (played by Karen Gillan) assits Ronin, and- in my opinion- steals the show. A small nod to the mad Titan Thanos also helps to advance the Infinity War plot by a giant leap. Although this film isn’t perfect (Ronin is a poorly fleshed out villain, there’s an interestingly-timed dance-off that perfectly represents the overall silliness of the film) it’s a ton of fun, and because of its striking visuals, fun score, and lovable leads, has a serious rewatchability factor.
All in all, this is one of my favorite films in the MCU, and I definitely recommend!.
One of my favourite Marvel movies! I remember being very impressed after watching it. Each time I watch it I never get bored. We get introduced to some very exciting and interesting characters who continue to be a big part of the MCU.
I’m so excited for the third Guardians movie coming in 2023!.
This is the start of a new franchise for Marvel Comics. It’s based on a lesser-known book that was started in the 1960’s, got canceled and then re-launched over the years. This movie is based on the 2008 version of the books.
The story starts in 1988, when a little boy named Peter Quill loses his mother to cancer and is then abducted and raised by aliens. Chris plays the older version of Peter, or as he becomes known as, Starlord.
Chris has become a thief and is after a mysterious orb that several other people are also after. Zoe-Gamora-is one of those other people and she is also the adopted daughter of Thanos-remember him from the end credits of the Avengers? Vin voices Groot, a sort of living tree with a very limited vocabulary-‘I am Groot’ is all that he ever says-and Bradley voices Rocket, a highly intelligent raccoon that has been surgically altered with cybernetics and can also talk.
Thanos hires Ronan the Accuser to also go after the orb after Zoe fails in her attempt and the newly forming Guardians run into their latest member Dave-Drax-who has a need to kill Ronan for his own personal reasons.
The Collector from the end credits of Thor makes an appearance, too. Chris uses a cassette Walkman to play music-there is a reason he uses it, instead of some more modern device-and there is a lot of 1970’s & 1980’s songs heard throughout the film.
Stan Lee does make his cameo as well as a few others. I saw the IMAX 3D version and it was well worth it. The effects are great, the story is good, the actors look the parts and there is plenty of humor, along with the action-the whole vibe sort of reminded me of the old t.
v. show called Firefly. There is a scene just as the end credits start, plus another scene after the end credits-and the second one involves a different Marvel character that had his own movie, back in the 1980’s.
It’s rated “PG-13” for violence and language and has a running time of 2 hours & 1 minute. This is a good origin story and I really enjoyed it and would buy it on Blu-Ray.

This is one of my favorite movies EVER. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first one, I liked it but it wasn’t my favorite Marvel movie. But when I watched the second one, I fell head over heels for it.
The movie starts out with the Guardians fighting off a space monster for the Sovereign race, in order to protect special batteries. After the monster is dead, Rocket steals some batteries. In exchange for their fight, the Guardians come in possession of Gamora’s sister, Nebula.
The Sovereign race becomes aware that the batteries were stolen, and tries to chase the Guardians through space. The Guardians end up crashing their ship while escaping the Sovereigns. After the crash, a strange man lands his ship nearby and tells Peter that he is his father.
Peter, Gamora, and Drax follow Peter’s “father” Ego onto his ship to go to his planet. Rocket, Baby Groot, and Nebula stay to repair the ship. Yondu gets hired to return the Guardians to the Sovereigns, but only captures Rocket, Baby Groot, and Nebula.
When he says he doesn’t want to turn over Peter, his lieutenant Taserface takes over. When his happens, Nebula takes off to find Gamora and kill her. Meanwhile, Peter, Gamora, and Drax are on Ego’s planet.
Peter and his father hit it off, but his assistant Mantis tries to tell Drax that Ego is evil. Yondu raised Peter, and knew that he was killing his offspring if they did not possess Celestial power. Yondu, Rocket, and Baby Groot re-take over the ship, kill everyone, and make their way to Ego’s planet to save Peter.
Nebula finds Gamora on Ego’s planet, and together the girls team up to save Peter from Ego. There is a battle between Ego and everyone else, and then the Sovereigns arrive to try to kill the Guardians as well.
The movie ends with Yondu sacrificing himself so that Peter could live. Then, Ravager ships help have a space funeral for Yondu, while Nebula leaves Gamora to fight their father, Thanos.
Vol. 2 was good, but I thought Vol. 1 was better. The storyline wasn’t as strong as the original. Character development wasn’t either. The love story between Peter and Gamora is put on hold between shortly after the beginning of the movie and shortly before the end of the movie.
Rocket is a little bit more personable, showing glimpses that he really does care a little bit. Baby Groot has a young, care-free personality compared to the previous Groot, but I felt it was explored less than the stogy personality of the previous Groot and simply relied on youthful, fool-hardy stereo-types established early on in the movie (ie opening scene).
And the tell-it-like-it-is and naivety of Drax is unchanged from the first movie, but still garners chuckles. Sisterly love between hardened/unemotional Gamora and equally-so Nebula is given back-story, but the result is predictable, though still heart-warming.
All the characters are explored and/or developed, but only minimally I felt. The truth behind Peter’s father is comic-book-unbelievable (where nothing is too ludicrous). The Marvel movie universe has kept the fantastical limited to minor plot devices (infinity stones, Loki’s transformations, Bifröst Bridge/wormholes), not a central character and the final conflict/battle of the story.
And where in the heck did “jump points” come from? They jumped out of no-where (or presumably the comic books). I enjoyed the movie, but felt a little bit let down from Vol. 1 (which isn’t uncommon in follow-up movies, but is in the Marvel movie universe).
Maybe I’m being too hard on the movie, but that’s the expectation that the Marvel movie universe has set. Then again, I only took off a single star despite everything I said because the movie is still a solid/good movie.
While Vol. 2 could easily have gone the route of most sequels (being a louder, bigger version of the initial film), it was nice to see that they went for more personal/emotional storylines. Most of the film is about Quill finding his dad but it also takes time to examine the reasons behind Rocket’s behavior towards those around him, Nebula/Gamora’s love/hate sisterly relationship, Drax/Mantis learning to express true emotion and Yondu trying to atone for all the mistakes he’s made in his life.
These storylines don’t mean that the film is without any excitement as there are still plenty of fun, crazy action scenes that still let you know this is a GOTG/MCU film. Kurt Russell is great as Ego, who starts off as a benevolent and loving father looking for his son before unleashing his cruel machinations.
It was great to see the cameos from Stallone, Rhames, and Yeoh as leaders of other Ravager factions. As per usual, GOTG Vol. 2 has a great soundtrack that really helps set the mood for all the action and emotional scenes.

After Avengers fell flat out of the gate, I think we were all uncertain as to whether Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix could deliver a good superhero game. But Guardians of the Galaxy is a great game that well worth your time.
A great story with heart and humor. A great team-based fight system. And a killer soundtrack that includes rock ballads from the fictional band “Star-Lord” as well as actual classics from there likes of Rick Ashley, Motley Crue, a-ha, and Wham!.
This game is for anybody that the following applies to. Do you like marvel? Especially guardians of the galaxy? Do you like music? How about action with rpg elements? Do you enjoy some humor in your game as well? Lastly, do you like good graphics? If you said yes to all then this is a must purchase, if you answered yes to half then maybe you should play on discount, if no to everything here you should avoid this title.

Disappointed not much to the story seems to be all over the place. Characters not very convincing have watched both twice, not likely to watch again possibly give them away to someone who likes marvel comics.
