20 Best Boots For Working With Horses (2022 Updated)

I bought these boots to wear for gardening and yard work with the idea that I could also wear them for hiking. I like that they have a heel so I can wear them for riding if I decide to try (my daughter rides which is why I shop at Dover).

I ordered a size down from what I typically wear for boots or sneakers and these boots fit with a mid-weight hiking sock. The boots feel very supportive through the sole and shank and have good arch support with the included sturdy thick insoles.

For one of my feet, the boots fit perfectly. For the other, which has a very flat arch, I added a Super Feet orthotic insole. I am so happy that these boots have removable insoles! I have not yet worn the boots enough to comment on the durability or other functionality, but I like that they have extra layer of rubber-like material at the toe and the back of the heel.

When I do yard and garden work I the to get lazy and dig shallow trenches with my toe instead of going to get a shovel or hoe so the reinforced toe will be helpful. I can comfortably wear them with a midweight cushioned hiking sock.

This is the second pair we’ve purchased, both for our son who rides horses and needed a great fitting boot that was comfortable enough for riding. These are perfect. The first pair (men’s 10. 5 wide), we bought in-store and unfortunately they have holes left from the theft-deterrent tags, but we purchased this second pair online and they were perfect.

They are nicely padded and offer the sole needed to keep his foot on the stirrup. Also, they are easier to lace and tie than other brands/styles he’s had since they are slightly shorter. These are priced right-we have to upgrade to a larger size often since his feet are still growing.

He does have a wide foot and the men’s 11. 5 wide width fit nicely, but they’re not super wide, which we’ll probably need as he gets older. Love the Ariat brand and the fact these area made for riding and love that they are so comfortable for him.

I’d highly recommend these.

My gelding is not very tall, but he is certainly stocky and has thick legs, which makes booting a challenge. It has not been an easy task to find boots that work for him, but these fit the bill! Unlike newer SMBs, these are not form-fitting, so they are perfect for his legs.

Not only are these SMB IIs economical, they are also easy to put on, and can be hosed off after use. Very happy with this purchase!.

Looking for a boot with extra support and protection for my Thoroughbred gelding. I normally school him in dressage with a lot of circles and lateral work in all three gaits. After a couple of rides I can say I and really satisfied with my purchase.

My gelding is 16. 3 hands and he fits perfectly in the mediums. I also got charcoal grey and the color is just gorgeous.

Good protection for your horses legs if you’re on a budget. Only issue with these is they get really hot which can actually cause stress and damage so it’s good practice to take them off for a few minutes and let your horses legs cool if you’re going to have them on for more than a couple of hours.

Overall good sport boots.

I have been wearing this model of boot for well over a decade now and will keep doing so until they are eventually no longer made. These are Justin’s all singing, all dancing pull on boots. These were the first pair of boots to actually last me 1 full year of shop floor, welding, fabricating & machining use.

This meant I didn’t have to buy a second pair of boots out of my own pocket after the company supplied the first pair. My current pair are now on year 3, now that I’m no longer on the shop floor full time but wearing them all day, every day, including doing yard work, is finally starting to take it’s toll on the lining.

It is starting to come loose at the heel and will sometimes try to move down when they are pulled on BUT, they are still waterproof! The Vibram soles still have useful tread on them too after all this time! I’m not into the square toe boots.

My feet are not square, so neither should my boots be! These are a great pair of boots and are worth every cent. If pull on boots are your thing, then you need to look at these.

I have been wearing Justin boots for about 18 years and they have gone down will terribly. I bought my size and could not get my foot in the boot. Shelper’s was fantastic handling the refund. I got with Justin about the issue and their response was a certain type of ES series boots were running a half to one whole size small, try something else.

I am not sure knowing a boot or several types are small coming out of the factory and not letting retailers or consumers know is how quality companies operate. Letting a factory put out off spec products seems like poor quality management.

I don’t recommend Justin or their many other brands.

This is the second pair of these I have purchased. First pair I bought from TSC in Montana working in the oil field 4 years ago. They were great boots and held up very well. The uppers were still good when I tossed them because the sole finally detached from the boot.

They had marks from a chain saw, protecting my foot during a mishap, numerous horses stepped on them, and they took a beating during my construction work. I tried a pair of Ariats, but returned them to TSC (who refunded my money happily) and got another pair of these Justins.

They are more comfortable than the Ariats on my toes and feet which must be wider than most. I wear a lot of Ropers and Stetson’s, but when it comes to work, these Justins can’t be beat. My wife doesn’t let me wear boots into the house so these come on and off easier than lace up boots.

I wear them year round, and these allow more room in the toe area for thick socks when I’m in single digit weather, whereas the Ariats were tight before the thicker socks in the same exact size boot.

I bought these about 6 months ago for flatwork and low-level cross county, and although the price point and overall boot are nice, they just didn’t last. Even with almost entirely flatwork, one of the front boots started to rip, and recently the velcro on the back boot came off entirely.

I’m giving them three stars because they were nice while they lasted, and my horse is famously tough on boots. They’re also super easy and convenient to clean, making them great for XC and hacking. I know a lot of people that really like them, so if you have a horse that isn’t so tough on boots I recommend them.

I’m going to try the triple locking ones by woof wear next in hopes that they’ll last longer. Overall, a good boot, but just not sturdy enough for me and my horse.

Oh, hello! I see you have stumbled upon my review! I ordered the Woof Wear All-Purpose Boots in a size small and pink. At the time they were back-ordered, so they took a VERY long time to ship. But when they did arrive, they fit my 13-14hh pony perfectly! These boots are sturdy and flexible and will last you a while.

They offer my pony the support he needs when we do cross-country, show-jumping, and flat work. I have had them for about 4 months now, and they look exactly as they did when I got them. If they get dirty or muddy, I just hose them off and let them dry and they look good as new! I ordered the a plain black pair for events and so far so good! They come in so many colors, too! I bought these a few weeks ago primarily to protect my horses legs when we trail ride, as we sometimes go through brush and I wanted to protect her from getting scratched with debris. The boots stay in play all ride (through walk, trot, canter, jumping, water crossings, mud, you name it).

I love the neoprene material as it doesn’t get too bogged down with water. These boots are easy to clean, too. I purchased a second pair to use on her hind legs.

Been looking for a new pair of long riding boots for a while. I wear the mountain horse Rimfrost paddock boots so knew foot size wouldn’t be a problem. Went for regular leg. They are not a snug as they should be as I want to wear a pair of long socks and don’t want the struggle of getting them zipped up! Beautiful boots.

So many companies do not cater for those who are shorter in the cannon bone, lol. Mountain Horse are the exception. I have small feet for my 5’7″ stature. These boots fit perfectly, despite my being at the maximum width for the regular width.

The foot bed is fabulous, and the boots were comfortable straight from the box. Important because not only did I need them for a competition the next day, but also because my disabled, rebuilt leg has a lot of very fragile scar tissue which easily becomes inflamed.

Absolutely beautiful boots. I’ve always liked MH boots anyway but these are in a different league. The leather is exceptionally soft. Quite a snug fit, but am sure they’ll give a little. Lovely and supportive around the ankles.

I bought these 3 years ago and they are still going strong. INCREDIBLY comfortable. I have problem feet and usually have to have orthotics for my feet to be comfortable, these are more comfortable than most of my footwear that has orthotics in them.

They are truly waterproof, I have not had to do anything to “preserve” the waterproofing. I feed my horses (2 large drafts) every single day where I have to walk out in their pasture and have walked through deep mud and water puddles without a single bit of wetness inside.

I have also taken them on vacations where I’ve done tons of walking around cities and find them more comfortable than sneakers. I am a true 7. 5 and ordered the 7. 5, they were true to size. I often wear thick wool socks and they are not too tight, but also work well with a thinner summer sock.

Worth every single penny! I’m ordering a second backup pair today just in case Ariat ever discontinues this style.

These are my second pair of Heritage IV Paddock boots. I purchased them originally because I wanted a “chelsea” style boot with a super comfortable sole. These are GREAT for both reasons! They look great and feel SUPER!! It takes a couple of days to break them in to your foot, but then they wear like a glove and yet give a lot of support.

I love the heel on these boots. It’s not clunky and is very “grippy”. The arch support is just right. Almost like an athletic shoe but with better looks. If Ariat added a bit more sole to the front of this boot, It would make a very good hiking boot.

My horse goes through a pair of bellboots just about every 8 weeks. I am so happy to have found this set from Horze, I keep buying them because the price is so good, the velcro is high quality and never rips like most brands, and they protect him from pulling shoes.

They last me about 8 weeks or sometimes a little more but he is hard on boots and all that happens is they get ripped up and I get new ones. They spray clean really easy and I just got a set to school in as well.

They also work really well for horses who get rubs on their fetlocks, I have used them for a clients horse on upside down and they protect him from getting rubs really well and have lasted forever on that horse!.

I use these on my mare during turnout to prevent her from pulling her front shoes. The XL fits her (size 3 shoe) with room to spare. Pros: So far they’ve lasted a month with a few nicks (clearly they are doing their jobs) and the velcro is still nice and strong.

I don’t see any evidence of rubbing. The color makes them easy to spot should they get ripped off. Cons: They get really heavy when wet and mud gets caught up inside them pretty badly. If you don’t have to deal with Texas clay soil they might be a better option for you.

Unless these turn out to last significantly longer than regular bell boots, I don’t plan to purchase them again.

I ordered these in an XXL for my horse who takes a size 4/5 simple cavellos. When they first arrived, they seemed pretty big, but they looked much different on. If I were using them to ride, I would have rather ordered a size smaller, but they are perfect for turnout boots.

The boots appear to be well made. The neoprene is thick and the velco strap is double sided, so no worries about the velcro coming apart.

Great boots & price. Love the boots, fit nice & going to be great for trail riding & arena work! Love the extra protection on the insides of the Classic Fit front horse boots. My horse occasionally strikes his splint bone with his hind feet.

These boots are going to be great protection from horse’s hind feet striking the front legs tendons. The back legs I purchased legacy 2 hind boots & I like to mix up style of boots to best suit my horses needs.

Plus the stripes & stars pattern is very cute!.

Love these boots! Bought the full set for roping. My personal favorite brand. They last, rinse off well. Every horse of mine has a set. Worth the money.

Love these boots! They support my horse’s tendons and ligaments without cutting off blood supply (when installed correctly) and I feel at ease training my horse with them on. I also liked how quickly Valley Vet shipped them to me; they arrived in perfect, new condition too.

Love the LeMieux Fleece-Lined Brushing boots! They wrap around the whole leg (some other brands are gappy) and the velcro is sturdy. Sizing is pretty similar to others. My 16. 3 warmblood wears a medium on fronts and large hinds.

Also appreciated that Dover had these in stock, whereas other online retailers didn’t. Shipped and received very quickly! Oh, and they wash well too. I put them in the dryer for a few minutes on very low heat to re-fluff them up.

I have used these mesh boots for several years and have bought multiple pairs. The mesh boots do not last quite as long as the LeMieux schooling boots, but they are considerably lighter in weight. My perception is that the mesh do not heat the leg as much as the solid boots do.

The strike plates work well, as my horse has never made a mark on his legs while wearing them. They wash and wear well and fit according to the size charts. My horse is a 16 h Lusitano, who wears Medium on front and Large on back legs.

These are for sure the best boots ever. I also considered another high end brand but so happy I chose these. Super lightweight. Very stylish. My horse loves them!
