What a great book on selling. If you’re new or if you’ve been selling for years this book has content that will benefit you. It’s amazing how many topics this book covers. It is full of simple and direct information that will benefit any sales professional if you want to increase your dollar amount that you’re worth this book is worth reading.
In fact it’s worth reading twice.
Sadly most books on the art of selling come out of America where they always have an almost evangelical tone – you get some basic ideas from these books but there is a different culture in Australia and we are a bit more discerning and sceptical (healthy cynicism?) Its worth a read but dont expect too much from it.
Your eyes will roll throughout.

Oh my goodness! You absolutely will not believe the horrors that went on when you read this book! It grabbed my attention right away and I read it in a couple days. It was so good and so incredibly sad at the same time.

So it’s been a while since a book has really grabbed me, and I am a true crime nerd. The accounts mentioned in here about Shelly Knotek is absolutely horrifying and you just simply will not believe what you will read.
This book is not for the faint of heart but absolutely worth it if you are into non-fiction and true crime.
What a great book!! I like true crime stories! It does go into detail about the abuse that took place which can be cringeworthy at times but makes you feel connected to the victims in wanting justice for them all, It makes you sad, and angry at the same but it does come to a satisfying end.

If you bought this book you proved his point. “How to sell anything” like garbage disguised as a book “to anyone” to you. I will save you the time and money by dot pointing what this book covers:- smile when you meet someone, buy a $30,000 dollar gold watch, wear expensive suits, go to the gym, don’t be late for a meeting, get a business partner that loves money more than you and tie yourself to a superstar mentor.
All the rest is an autobiography that literally plays out like he has had 30 x 5 minute conversations with his biographer about how good he is. Literally he was selling this book for he had finished half of it so to get it on the shelves he filled it with fluff.
So if you want to learn anything about selling don’t buy this book. If you want to read about how fabulous some up himself realtors life is, buy it. The only thing I learned from this is if you have enough Facebook followers you can sell a lot of copies of a really bad book before your biographer has even written it.
He is amazing. This isn’t a book I would normally buy, however I was choosing a different career path and I saw the title and picked it up. It has helped me with so much more than just my career it’s helped me through my struggles within myself.

Regards reading faces and behaviours: “Each of us, over the course of our lives, builds our own set of operating instructions for our face, based on the culture and environment we inhabit. The face is a symbol of how different human beings are, not how similar we are, which is a big problem if your society has created a rule for understanding strangers based on reading faces.
” He tells us “Our strategies for dealing with strangers are deeply flawed, but they are also socially necessary. We need the criminal-justice system and the hiring process and the selection of babysitters to be human.
But the requirement of humanity means that we have to tolerate an enormous amount of error. That is the paradox of talking to strangers. We need to talk to them. But we’re terrible at it” And also “The thing we want to learn about a stranger is fragile.
If we tread carelessly, it will crumple under our feet. And from that follows a second cautionary note: we need to accept that the search to understand a stranger has real limits. We will never know the whole truth.

Gladwell used multiple anecdotes from transcripts and interviews to bring “truth-default theory” to life in “Talking to Strangers. ” He worked through this theory as a way to explain the position most people default to when talking with strangers.
Truth-default theory originated with Timothy R. Levine, a distinguished professor and chair of communication studies at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Gladwell explained that when talking to others, we accept they’re telling the truth.
We look at two scenarios, and we go with the more likely answer. Something has to push us over the threshold for us to not default to truth. “To assume the best about another is the trait that has created modern society,” Gladwell said.
“Those occasions when our trusting nature gets violated are tragic; but…to abandon trust as a defense against predation and deception – is worse” (342-343). Gladwell opened and closed the book with the case of Sandra Bland, pulled over for failing to use a signal on July 10, 2015 in Prairie View, Texas.
That minor traffic violation led to a troubling exchange between her and state trooper Brian Encinia that led to her arrest. I didn’t remember this story so this was a fresh telling for me. He ended with the Bland case after a journey through other stories where he further developed “default-to-truth theory” and moved on to what I’ll call companions to default-to-truth for how we make sense of the stranger.
He moved from a look at Cortez vs. Montezuma II to Fidel Castro & Cuban spies and the CIA, UK ambassadors and Adolf Hitler, finally turning his attention to stories from today’s headlines. He talked about the controversial cases of Jerry Sandusky, Larry Nassar, and Bernard Madoff, as well as Amanda Knox, and Brock Turner.
A chapter labeled “Sylvia Plath” caught my eye. She and Anne Sexton were included. I couldn’t wait to see why. I kept thinking, “I feel like singing the Sesame Street song, “One of these things is not like the other.
” Some of these stories were not like the others and didn’t appear to belong. They did connect eventually, and that’s what made the book a stimulating mental treat. I thought Gladwell triumphed as a storyteller.
I talked about this book often as I read, so riveted was I by these stories and the new insights I gained. I told people he’s like Paul Harvey in that he gave you “the rest of the story” once he developed his argument further.
So many of his cases invited further study. He’s restored my faith in journalism. I could tell he thoroughly researched the cases presented and worked to give back an unbiased re-telling. He conducted interviews and used transcripts to bring life to the stories.
(Yes, that meant I did see curse words. ) Included were copious notes in the back. And he even gave an email address in the notes section for readers who notice an error they want to dispute. I felt better informed about past and present cases, and I appreciated how Gladwell showed compassion and empathy for people the media had tried in the court of public opinion.
When I finished this book I thought: “Give this guy a Pulitzer!” Such a departure from my usual nonfiction fare. I do like to take deep dives into subjects. I love the rush of the “A-ha moment. ” I could easily see someone taking Gladwell’s ideas and applying them to literature to make sense of misunderstood characters, like Frankenstein’s monster in Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” or Heathcliff in Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights.
” The more I read, the more I saw how often I have let social media and news media influence what I believe about some of the high-profile cases covered again in the book. And I think Gladwell accomplished his goal because I reflected often on each case presented.
Not giving away the thrill of discovery, I will say they’re ones we should never forget.

With such beautiful sentences that I had to read to someone, I enjoyed the writing style and am keen to read the author’s next novel. In keeping with the bazillion movie references there is a cinematic quality about this book and I feel like it was written with a movie deal in mind.
I am interested in seeing how the introspective nature of the main character translates to film. I loved that there were multiple mental health conditions portrayed in this book and that they weren’t glossed over.
It wasn’t implied that you can flick a magical switch and all of a sudden become the poster child for mental health overnight. The struggles were gritty and the judgemental attitudes towards those with mental health conditions were unfortunately realistic.
However. Are they truly red herrings if the reader can tell that’s what they are, or are they merely sunburnt? It does take some of the thrill out of a thriller if you expect what happens in the thrill parts to happen before they happen.
I’m one of those people that can’t even predict what they’re having for dinner that night yet I nailed most of the ‘surprises’ well before they happened, and that’s really kinda sad. There is so much media hype these days surrounding prescription medication addiction and the portrayal of the main character buys into all of the negative stereotypes.
I’d say that you should play a drinking game with your book club buddies and take a drink each time the main character does, but I’m afraid you wouldn’t survive do let’s scrap that idea. It confuses me how I can love the writing style, find sentences so beautiful I have to read them to someone, yet be bored at the same time.
Because I accidentally figured out most of the ‘aha!’ moments they turned into ‘uh huh’ ones. Thank you so much to NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers Australia for the opportunity to read this book.

After watching the Movie Trailer for The Woman in the Window, I decided to read the book. Unfortunately, the book did not meet my high expectations. The Trailer depicts an exciting and suspenseful storyline.
While I am sure there are parallels between the movie and the book, I found the book to be dull and strung-out. A. J. Finn’s writing style was not engaging and I had to take many breaks just to get through the book.
In the book, the main character, Anna, oftentimes quotes films and lines of Hollywood actors and actresses which I found to be off-putting given that I did not see (or have an interest in seeing) any of the films.
The concept of the book is interesting, but the plot was not well-executed. Books are known to be better than movies in most scenarios, but for the sake of the movie I hope that this is not the case.

Although this book is getting a bit long in the tooth it is still a book that all sales people need to read. It is well researched, well illustrated and well written and will put money in your pocket.
Much of modern selling finds its roots in Rackham’s little masterpiece. He is widely quoted by all the modern day sales gurus and much of their teaching is just SPIN with different clothes. I highly recommend this book to you.
I decided to buy the Spin Selling Fieldbook because I had read the book Spin Selling and wanted to learn more. The book Spin Selling is by far the most comprehesive book I have ever read on selling. For me, working thru the exercises in the workbook will increase my learning much more then just reading a book.
The Fieldbook is a powerful tool for learning to be a better sales person. It is easy to work thru and I feel that whatever level of sales, a person is at, this Fieldbook will help you to improve. The Fieldbook is well written and illustrated.
A bonus for someone considering the Fieldbook is that you do not have to have read the book prior to working thru the Fieldbook. I would recommend the Spin Selling Fieldbook to anyone in the sales profession, especially for those involved with large sales.

I have not yet managed to read this book through, and I don’t know it I ever will. Why? Because it turns out to be not what I expected, “the secrets of selling anything to anyone”, but rather “How I did it” or “Me and my success”.
I don’t doubt that there are people around who enjoy that kind of a book, but I don’t. So I dropped off when I came to the chapter on how Mr Eklund dresses.
I was shocked how inspiring this book is. I have never watched the show before but I was compelled to read the book when walking through barnes and nobles and i stopped and flipped through the book. Really great ideas and it doesn’t sugarcoat his success, alot of it is hard damn work.

I’m so glad I happened to see The Push at a bookstore I was at with my daughter. The cover and title of the book stopped me in my tracks, especially that cover, which is designed to evoke an inkblot you’d see in a Rorschach test.
I hadn’t heard of this book before, but the synopsis indicated this was a book I was likely going to love. First of all, I love unreliable narrators where you don’t know if their perspective is what’s really happening or not, and that was how I felt about Blythe.
Was there something “wrong” with Violet, or was there something wrong with her mother? As for Blythe’s husband, Fox, he was either being rational or refusing to see what’s happening. The book had me back and forth so many times! There were times I could see where Blythe was coming from, but I still wondered about this character.
I had to know what was going to happen next. I will say I liked her more than Fox though. I don’t know what exactly it was about him, although I suppose it was likely his flippant attitude about his wife’s concerns that drove me crazy.
The Push was definitely a five star read for me! It was a nonstop thrill ride that kept me turning the pages as quickly as I could, and after I finished it, I had to take a deep breath and process what I just read.
I love books that give me that reaction.
I was excited to read this book because I am a fan of psychological thrillers. This was a pretty easy and fast read! However, the book was not exactly what I was expecting. It dives deep into early motherhood and throughly describes the good, the bad, and the ugly.
This book didn’t have any major jaw-dropping twists or turns but rather left me with an uncomfortable feeling wondering what might happen next. I enjoyed how the book made me change my view of certain characters, and how it made me think of how traumatic experiences can skew memories.
Overall, I thought the book was good but left me feeling slightly underwhelmed.
Loved this book, slightly disturbing in a slow burn kind of way. Even though its slow and poetic it had me gripped till the end. Kind of my nightmare in a story. the fear of motherhood, the fear of becoming like my own mother, what if I have a baby and Im not in love with it? the spirals of post natal depression.
But also there is this twist that’s truly shocking and but has you questioning everything the whole time, questioning the mothers sanity in the same way she and her family are questioning her sanity.

This book is from 2005!! How are you supposed to learn from an outdated book that references using F-5 key, what type of film to use in your camera, recommends at least 3 pixel camera and no mention of local pick up instructions in shipping.
A real dinosaur and rip off. No response from seller. May be able to sell a 14 yr old novel but not an instruction book. eBay has changed since 2005 ya think.
I bought this book years ago, put it down and forgot about it. Since that time, I’ve recently come across it again, and decided to give it a read. I was amazed! A very few things may be slightly dated, due to policy changes over the years, but still one of the best guides I’ve come across.
Straightforward, just like the author is talking to you. He provides examples of real situations and walks you through them, most often, with his own personal experiences. The book is set up so you may skip around to read about a particular subject, but is great as a straight read through.
What really surprised me, is I really hated putting the book down, it is written that well! If you have often had questions about ebay or some of their procedures, this book is still one of the best on the market! Interested in learning more about selling on ebay.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book takes place at Livia’s fortieth birthday party. She has invited all her friends and family. The only person that cannot make it to the party is her daughter Marnie.
Marnie is out of the country for school. If there was ever a book that gave me anxiety, this would be this book! I don’t experience anxiety on a normal day to day, but everything that happened in this book kept me on the edge of my seat in a constant panic.
A wife that is hiding something large from her husband and a husband that is hiding something even bigger from his wife. The “Dilemma” book is over the course of a twenty four hour period. We experience trauma with both Livia and Adam.
It takes Livia awhile before she discovers a secret but she decides to put it aside until after the party. Adam discovers a horrible truth but refuses to get confirmation. He makes himself physical ill just not making one phone call he needs to make.
I’m not sure I could wait on a phone call like that even though I might know the answer is not what I want to hear. This book is very good but also very hard to read emotionally. I wouldn’t suggest this one to everyone I know but it is a good read.
This is my book group choice for the month. It is gripping and hard to put down. I always go to wob first when looking to buy a book. They have an excellent range, good value and speedy delivery (I think p&p is free).
Only once had an issue with a book where the first few pages were missing and I was immediately sent a replacement without having to return the original book. Love the recycling element too!.
I was very disappointed in this book. BA Paris is one of my favorite authors and all of her books, aside from this one, are terrific. The premise is compelling enough, but the characters are underdeveloped and unlikable.
I found that I didn’t care at all what happened to any of them. Their ‘self-talk’ and rationalization about why they made the decisions they made was weak and frankly annoying. I found this an unbelievable dynamic between family members and friends.
I would have stopped reading the book, but I was so hoping this author would pull out a showstopper ending to redeem the story. She did not.

I was interested in becomig a seller on Ebay. But, I certainly didn’t know where to start. So,I withdrew 3 books on the subject from my local library. This book was one of them. Although, it wasn’t the most current and some of the material is out dated, I liked the way it was worded and I was drawn into it from the beginning.
The other books were more of a “how-to and not as relatable. This book is a How-to and so much more. This book was written in plain understandable language. Shortly after my library rental ran out I went on Ebay and purchased my very own copy.
Now it’s like having a built in mentor sitting on my shelf, I will refer back to time and time again. To date I have become a new seller on Ebay with the help of this book. I will continue to broaden my knowledge with the help of this book and many others.

Having attended a seminar by ADAM GINSBERG in Singapore,I was highly motivated to follow in his footsteps, and thus I bought his book in order to learn more from one of eBay’s finest. The book is essentially his autobiography after he lost his job in the late 90s, and how his mother persuaded him to try selling his products (furnitures) on eBay.
Overcoming all odds, by trial and error, he went from selling pool tables, to luxary watches. This is a great book if you wanna learn from the master himself, and great source of motivation. However, I must warn you that some of his techniques wouldn’t make sense if applied in countries outside of the US (eg.
using UPS to send items by land to save up on taxes and expenses = not as possible in Europe or in Island based regions like South East Asia).
Conclusion
There are a few things to keep in mind when selling books on Amazon. First, Amazon is a marketplace, so you will be competing with other sellers. Second, Amazon charges fees for listing and selling items, so you will need to factor that into your pricing.
