Body scrub is a type of exfoliation that is done to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This can be done with a loofah, a body brush, or a body scrub. Body scrub is a popular choice for black skin because it is less abrasive than other methods and it helps to even out the skin tone.
20 Best Body Scrub For Black Skin
1. Jack Black Charcoal Body Buff Exfoliating Cleanser – 16 oz.
This 2-in-1 body cleanser and exfoliator features charcoal that absorbs odors and dirt from the skin, leaving it healthier and refreshed. Natural volcanic stone removes dead skin cells while a blend of sea algae, aloe, baobab and shea butter nourishes and maintains skin’s moisture.
Notes of marine accord, bamboo and sea salt complete this unique sensory experience.
My husband’s review: I’m a 55-year-old male with normal skin in terms of oiliness and dryness. I’ve had an ongoing issue with what is either cystic acne or rosacea above my browline and on my right cheek; I was curious to see what effect, if any, Jack Black products would have on that situation as well as the rest of my face and skin.
The extent of my prior experience with exfoliating cleansers would largely be limited to the old Lava Bar and I was pleased to learn that unlike the pumice-based bar used by auto mechanics the world over, this liquid cleanser is gentle and mild.
In the shower, it quickly worked up a nice lather and left my skin feeling as smooth as the proverbial baby’s butt without any excessive and unwanted dryness. Though presumably not its primary intended purpose, I tired it (lightly) on my face after a particularly exhauting day of yardwork with great results – very clean and very smooth skin without dryness or redness.
As a bonus, it has a nice scent without being overly perfume-y so I’d gladly use this as a daily body cleanser. We received this product at no charge from Influenster and Jack Black. The above is my husband’s review, but I’ve also been using this exfoliator.
I have KP on my upper arms and this is working so well on it! My arms are super smooth!!! I’m sold!!!.
I received this product for free from Influenster in exchange for my honest review and opinion. Ive never been a big self care guy, not have I been in the mood to even try it to be honest. I spend a lot of my time in controlled environments with high temperature and humidity control so my skin could definitely use more care… but I’m a guy and I spend my time having bon fires, cleaning and shooting guns, chopping wood and chasing after my two little toddlers.
life is tough and I don’t have the time! So when I had the chance to check out the product… I said why not. what’s the worse that could happen? I get nice skin, shave a year or two off my face. wasn’t really my idea of a good time.
Boy was I wrong. I didn’t give it enough merit to these types of products cause this is amazing. I honestly can say that my face feels great and looks even better after using it for 30 days. I used a bunch of these products daily as instructed and it’s true what it says.
Worth it. I’m fact I’m going to buy some more after I run out because I like it that much… and that’s saying a lot for someone like me I use this in the shower and it’s great. I feel great and use it after a fire or a tough day.
Follow up with some tea or coffee for best results.
I received a sample of Jack Black Charcoal Body Buff Exfoliating Cleanser to test it out. I LOVED this product! I had been using a similar scrub with sea salt, but I didn’t feel like it exfoliated that much.
However, this stuff scrubs really well. It is similar to orange-scented shop cleaner in its abrasiveness, but the cleanser is also soft and moisturizing. I even used it on my face and while it certainly was a strong exfoliator, it didn’t feel to rough on my face.
Post-shower, my skin felt NOTICEABLY soft and smoother, so I know it did its job. Without the use of microplastics or dissolving salt, the charcoal and pumice mix exfoliated and cleansed well without affecting the environment.
Kudos to Jack Black on a killer product, I’ll be buying a full sized refill after I finish this review!.
While Salt scrubs are sometimes dangerous to your skin as the size of the grain can cause microscopic tears, since brown sugar has smaller particles, it is gentler and safer. Brown sugar can also be used as an exfoliator on your face or for sensitive skin because it is softer than regular sugars.
However, it is also strong enough to scrub away dead skin cells and make way for the healthier, glowing skin to show through. Brown sugar contains glycolic acid, that fights bacteria. Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid, which is important in keeping your skin vivacious and healthy.
Brown sugar gives you younger and fresher looking skin by breaking down glue-bonded skin cells which supports cell turnover. It also helps to improve sun damage and offers support to aging skin. Certain exfoliators can leave your skin dry and dull.
Brown sugar is a natural humectant so it absorbs moisture from your environment and deposits it into your skin. Hydrating and conditioning, brown sugar helps to keep the moisture locked in. It also guards your skin against destructive toxins and keeps it healthy, nourished and glowing.
Deeply cleanse and purify skin with a detoxifying cocktail of ingredients. African Black Soap addresses blemish related problems while Bamboo Charcoal helps draw out impurities from the skin’s pores.
Oat and Aloe Extract help soothe skin. Cleanse and detoxify without drying skin. Apply to damp skin. Gently massage onto the body using circular motions. Rinse thoroughly. Use once or twice weekly as required.
too creamy and nonabrasive to be considered a scrub. should just be called a body wash for problem skin and call it a day. there’s not enough exfoliating properties in this product. it doesn’t wash off or rinse down drain well.
smells like mint chocolate and dirt. works sort of well on one part of my body but not the ones I intended. I wish ulta had provided a smear picture of the usable product like they do with almost everything else.
also should just be considered an African black soap product instead of charcoal, doesn’t detox enough. but again, this should not be called a “scrub. ” this does not exfoliate whether you have problem skin or not.
overall a confusing product. I’m using the tube up, but I probably won’t buy again.
What’s interesting is I thought this was just some cheap stuff my boyfriend’s sister used. She spent a weekend and left it at our place and when she moved out of state I figured, okay – she doesn’t want this.
I was all out of my usual Dove soap and figured hey, why not try this scrub. It’s been in my shower for a month after all! I immediately thought “this feels like it will do nothing for me”. it’s a scrub so it does feel odd rubbing it all over my body – it doesn’t FEEL effective, but IT IS.
I also had to use it on my face, and I immediately noticed how clean my skin felt. That clean rubber feeling that you think will almost definitely leave your skin dehydrated – NOPE! I as a matter of fact have used this regularly on my body as well as my face for the last 3 months.
I stopped even using any primer or face lotion as this stuff keeps my face super hydrated without making my face any more oily. I have battled with acne for many years and this has not only cleared up my face, but it has also REALLY lightened up my scars.
I used to not be able to use certain foundations that I find I now can use. I no longer need heavy duty “full coverage” foundation. When I ran out of hers, I was thankful I found it here because I couldn’t find it in-store anywhere.
I can’t recommend it enough, especially for your face!.
I must be in the minority because I just saw all the rave reviews after buying this product and trying it out at home. This is the ABSOLUTE WORST SCRUB (if you can even call it that) I have ever bought! I am disgusted with myself that I even wasted money and a coupon on this product.
I found absolutely no pros for this product, just all cons. Cons: product stinks (can’t even smell the tea tree leaf oil listed in the ingredients) doesn’t evenly remotely exfoliate well because it has so many oils in the ingredients that it just feels like you are rubbing petroleum jelly mixed with sand all over your body.
You really have to put some elbow grease in when you wash just to get the scrubbing particles to come in contact with your skin and get past all the oils and candelilla wax. If you like the feel of a thick, greasy, gritty feeling (supposed) body scrub rubbing all over your body, then by all means, this is the product for you.
Himalayan Salt Body Scrub will help you relax & wash away tension. Himalayan Salt provides a perfect mineral-rich buffer to remove the dull, dead skin cells, bringing new life to your skin. Lychee essential oil is added to an ultra-moisturizing blend of nourishing botanical oils to leave your skin velvety soft & lightly scented.
Jack Black Turbo Body Scrub is a triple threat body exfoliating scrub. It not only sloughs off dead skin with every use but also works as moisturizer and intensive muscle soak. This scrub cleanses your skin thoroughly without drying it out.
It is also formulated to soothe aching muscles or bruises with a refreshing scent that invigorates the senses. This scrub offers supreme repair therapy.
Superb product, on an expensive side, but well worth it. I read in QA, that it’s more effective when applied to dry skin, but I would recommend washing first (Turbo wash, of course!) and using this scrub after.
Tried it both ways, and the “Turbo wash – Scrub” worked better for me, then the other way around. I feel that clean, warmed up skin absorbs all these wonderful fragrant oils and salts much better, the amazing aroma stays on for longer, and the overall feeling is almost sauna-like.
I’m a newcomer to Jack Black community, and I’m quickly becoming addicted to the products and liked everything I’ve tried so far, and I think I already tried most of them. Many thanks!.
This stuff is quite nice to use. The smell is wonderful, with a strong eucalyptus tone. The texture is very gritty which makes for a nice aggressive scrub. I decided to also try it as a muscle relief by rubbing on sore limbs, and it actually seemed to help! Definitely a great multi-purpose product.
My only complaint is that when you apply it to dry skin (as it recommends), it doesn’t stick very well so some of it falls on the floor. That makes things messy and also leads to some wastage.
I don’t like how expensive this is, but I have to say it does work wonders for my skin. I feel smooth and blemish free and it’s just a relaxing experience to use it. I use it after getting my skin wet since I find following the directions and using it dry is very hard to do and I end up using a lot more product.
I also wish they had a version without the eucalyptus as it makes it feel cold on my skin. But I will keep using it.
Black Salt Vanilla Body Scrub – Ulta’s Black Salt Vanilla Body Scrub gently exfoliates, leaving skin feeling soft and smooth. Fragrance Family Black Lava Salt & Whipped Vanilla Features Fine granulated sugar gently exfoliates, leaving skin feeling soft & smooth Made without sulfates or parabens Cruelty-free Jar made from 100% recycled plastic – Black Salt Vanilla Body Scrub.
First, the scent of this is not great. If you’ve ever stayed at a hotel with an indoor pool/spa, you’ll know what I mean. I had high hopes, but yuck. Secondly, there consistency of this is super runny.
There’s a fine grit, but you almost lose all the product because it just slips through your hands. Finally, this isn’t 11 oz. I have dexterity and strength issues in my hands and I always decant my scrubs into 4 oz containers.
This only filled 1 jar and a little less than half of the other. For almost $13 you’re getting only about 6 oz of product.
I decided to try this on whim since it was discounted. I picked up the Black Salt and the Coconut. I used the Black Salt first, and I’m hooked. So much so, I ordered back ups of the Black Salt and Vanilla while they were still on sale.
I use body scrubs everyday in the shower, and have tried very high-end to drugstore brands. This is a winner for me. Aside from the fantastic scent of the product; slightly masculine and not overwhelmingly vanilla, it’s an exceptional formula.
It is everything I want in a scrub. The granules are just the perfect texture I look for; exfoliating, without being too abrasive. As you work the scrub into the skin, it gradually and lightly foams up, dissolving all the scrub particles, allowing the product to rinse off beautifully.
The flip open top is also genius, so there’s no fumbling with screw off caps. I am extremely pleased with this product and I would highly recommend.
a little pricey for what it is, considering tree hut is cheaper and has a better scent range. this scent can smell like weird plastic sometimes, and other times it smells devine. i decided to keep it since i got it on sale, and it’s ok.
i wouldn’t pay full price for it. it’s a little slimy and i wish the formula was grittier and ‘dryer’ for better exfoliation. if this never went on sale (i know ulta products do), then i would stick with tree hut.
but if this is on sale for a solid price, i’d pick a few up. but in this scent only.

Relax your mind with new Dr Teal’s Shea Sugar Scrubs. Packed with essential oils and shea butter, they are great for exfoliating the body and keeping your skin feeling both refreshed and soft. Essential oils help uplift your mood, while shea butter, black elderberry, orange oil and avocado oil leave the skin moisturized.
Dr Teal’s Sugar Scrubs are great for use in the bath or shower, or as a hand scrub.
I am a big fan of Dr Teals and have been using their products for a few years now. I have everything from their body oil, lotion, and hand soap. This product is great for so many reasons. First it has a thick consistency and applies very nicely to the skin.
Many body scrubs that I have used in the past are too watery with harsh beads that irritate my skin. This body scrub has gentle beads that melt into your skin as your rub it in. My skin feel so moisturized after using it.
Also, the smell is so amazing! It’s a nice refreshing scent that wakes me up in the morning. It is a nice blend of oils that doesn’t smell artificial or overpowering. When I went to hug my husband after getting out of the shower, he even commented on how nice I smelled.
Overall I think this product is absolutely great and I would 10/10 recommend it.
This is not a paid promotion review! Tree hut has been my ride or die for a long time now but with these prices these days, a jar what once costed me $5. 00 is now $8. 00! So I was snooping around and saw the Equate ones but they looked too watery.
Behold I saw Dr. Teals scrubs which I think are new? This is a classic company for anything related to bath time and showering. I smelled almost every scrub and honestly, the elderberry is my favorite because it’s more of a woman perfume scent then just straight orange or coconut.
I like my body washes and scrubs to smell like perfume rather than anything specific. I’ve tried this product for about two weeks now and I love it! Very similar in consistency to tree hut! Clean ingredients and moisturizing factors.
Please come out with a teakwood or mahogany scent!.
I’ve never tried a sugar scrub but I’m really glad i did! I have a water softner in my home and it dries my skin out in the winter. I usually use a veggie bush to exfoliate but it takes to much time.
I needed something to exfoliate while giving me the moisture i need. I’m very happy i decided to try Dr. Teals sugar scrub with essential oils. It gave me exactly what i needed. Also my husband uses it on his hands because it washes the grease off with ease and keeps his hands feeling soft.
You can really smell the elderberry and its a wonderful addition. It works really well and smells beautiful.

Powerful humectants in Black Honey moisturize, soften and protect skin while raw sugar cleanses pores and removes dead skin cells for a brighter and balanced complexion. The gluconic acid in black honey increases hydration and gently brightens skin.
Natural oils create a smoothing and moisturizing effect.
I’ve never gotten into sugar scrubs but I love archipelago and this caught my eye. It makes your skin incredibly soft and it smells fantastic. The sugar creates small exfoliating but is very gentle, I’ve been using the product daily.
Okay. So I normally don’t get so excited or write reviews, but I read the suggestion on the site to keep a sugar scrub near the sink and use it on my hands. INCREDIBLE!!!! After two days my hands didn’t just go through winter.
I just take a little bit, about the size of a nickel and use it in the morning. I recommend trying it for yourself.
I use in the shower to clean, exfoliate and moisturize all in one step. Great time-saver in winter, when skin can be so dry. Great to use before shaving too. Nice texture, not too rough, feels like quality oil that it’s packed in.
Some I’ve tried are too dry or rough and feel like they’re packed in low quality, petroleum based oil.
Reveal glowing skin with Tree Hut Sugar Shea Sugar Body Scrub in the creamy, cozy scent of Velvet Coffee! Made with sugar, shea butter, coffee arabica seed oil, and skin-conditioning natural oils to leave skin feeling good and smelling delicious.
I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. This is my first time trying this scrub brand. After purchasing I had to go on tiktok to see what was so special about these scrubs as they seem to be famous.
After trying I totally understand why people like this. It’s a sugar scrub that has a nice, creamy texture to it. It’s great for exfoliating purposes and is safe for use in all types water drainage (I use septic and avoid artificial beads).
Although one thing I didn’t like about this product is the smell. I don’t like the coffee smell on my body (although I like coffee to drink) for that I give it 4 stars. I would want to try other scents instead!.
I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. This is the first product that I have purchased from this brand and it did not disappoint! First of all, the smell is amazing. It smells just like fresh brewed coffee! Yet the smell isn’t too overwhelming.
The scrub itself is gentle enough that it doesn’t irritate my skin, but still leaves my skin feeling so smooth and hydrated. I have eczema all over my body and have to be careful about products like this causing a flare up.
But I had no issues with this product at all! I’m looking forward to trying other more scents!.
I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. Great scrub. It has a creamy texture yet it is very efficient at exfoliating. Note that it does not nourish or moisturize your skin, only works as scrub.
I am not a fan of this coffee scent, smells more like some flavored coffee. I would, however, buy it again in a different scent. Also, what is important it does not leave any residue on surfaces and does not clog pipes – it dissolves completely.
The Body Exfoliator is a weekly multi-exfoliation treatment for skin health. Two methods of exfoliation—chemical and physical—work synergistically to exfoliate, soften, and renew skin: a gentle AHA/BHA trio (Glycolic, Lactic, and Salicylic acids) helps to remove dead skin cells, while Pumice and Bamboo Charcoal soften skin without irritation.
Available in Fragrance-Free, and three pure essential-oil scents: Bergamot, Sandalwood, and Eucalyptus. 180 mL / 6. 1 oz.
While this body exfoliator was not the daily, gentle scrub I was looking for – it suits my husband to a tee! He’s not a “product guy” but this scrub earned his approval. It was perfect for his outdoorsy skin – exfoliated without being too harsh or “too girly.
” Many charcoal scrubs leave a mess in the shower, but this one rinses away cleanly. Having a twist-off cap is an inconvenience and lead to product leaking out. A flip-top would solve that problem. I purchased the Eucalyptus scent.
To me it smelled exactly like professional office buildings’ bathroom cleaner. To my husband, whose nose is less sensitive, it was “okay. ” Now I buy him the unscented.
I was lucky enough to be sent other products from this brand and were impressed. So I had to purchase this body exfoliant as I was curious. It’s so effective and gorgeous. The scent is very subtle but I love that.
It is a fine granular exfoliant and it lathers up like a shower gel. Because the grain is so fine you can scrub to your hearts content. The end result is beautiful soft hydrated skin. Really glad I found this brand.
It’s useful to have a product that you can use daily. No gimmicks just straightforward effective ingredients that work.
The Bermuda Scrub will treat your dark spots and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Bermuda contains nourishing ingredients, such as lemon essential oil, that will lighten dark spots and brighten the skin.

For the best results, use Bermuda Scrub 2-3 times a week – depending on how sensitive skin is.
I am a huge fan of this scrub. It exfoliates, and it smells fantastic! Paired with the Bermuda Oil, it effectively diminishes dark spots. I had laser hair removal on my bikini line years ago, and it left me with some skin pigmentation.
I have been using the Bermuda scrub and oil for several weeks now and see a huge difference. The dark spots are definitely diminishing and my bikini line is much lighter as well. I also use it on my elbows, and along my bra line where it tends to get dark.
The Bermuda collection will be part of my self-care routine from now on!.
This is my second time buying the Bermuda Scrub and I am 100% in love. I bought it the first time in the fall and saw improvements but wanted see if other products were better. I have yet to find I product that works as well as this one.
No other products worked for me like this one. After I used this my legs instantly feel soft and smooth. And almost all of the dark marks on my legs are gone. The remaining ones have faded greatly. I recently got a series of dark marks on my lower stomach from ingrown hairs and the scrub is working well there quickly.
I have been using this for a month now (2-3 x week) and I am seeing the results. I use it all over my body and after one wash my skin feels soo soft and clean. I also used the oil with it for my underarms and they have been cleaned out so well.
It smells really nice! The downside is that its less in quantity and After every use I make sure I close it tightly but Whenever I use it for the next time the it seems very dry ans hard then I have to mix the whole jar and then use it other than that I love it!! Bought my second set.

Let me start off really quick with the only fault I could find in this product: the smell isn’t my favorite; not revolting or to the point of preventing me from using it. It’s barely even an issue. Now to good parts: literally everything else.
I have some of the driest skin; if the Sahara desert and sandpaper had a baby, it would be my skin, especially on my legs. This scrub has changed my life. It sloughs off the dead and flaking skin cells, leaving my body polished and glowing.
A little goes a long way, and with the sizable tub, I expect this scrub to last me a long while. But when the time comes to replenish my stock, the price will never be a hindrance. It’s unreal the amount and quality of this product for the price.
I would like to try another Tree Hut sugar scrub to see if the results of one without charcoal are similar, while giving me a scent I may like more. I’m having the best time feeling my own skin and even my ambivalent BF has commented on how much better my skin feels.
Best sugar scrub hands down!!! I’m a huge believer in charcoal and it’s uses and properties so I was so excited to try this scrub out. I have folliculitis (for those of you who don’t know what that is, basically whenever I shave, I get inflamed hair follicles, razor burn that stings, and my hair follicles become infected and clogged causing ingrown hairs) so I have to wax everything.
Waxing also gives me bad ingrown hairs as well so I need to exfoliate every other day. I’ve tried about 10 different scrubs and this was by far the best. It doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily after use, doesn’t leave oil on the bottom of your tub and is the perfect concentration to slough all the dead skin off.
The amount of ingrown’s I have is significantly less, I barely find them anymore and it makes my skin feel silky smooth and moisturized. My legs used to have small red dot all over from shaving and didn’t have a smooth look to them but with each use they look better and better.
Slightly more abrasive than I prefer, but definitely gets the job done. Doesn’t feel like it moisturizes, but doesn’t dry me out either. I bought this because I liked the similar Maui volcanic ash products, and wrongly assumed this would smell similar.
It instead seems to have a generic perfumed scent that I’m really not a fan of. Overall – I’ve used scrubs that were less harsh, and far more moisturizing with preferable scents. This may work much better for different skin types, but for my dry, overly sensitive skin it’s a pass.
Okay first of all, who is using this on their face because GIRL WHAT?! Lmao Anyway I use this on my body ONLY and it’s cleared up the occasional acne I get on my booty as well as being an amazing shave/wax prep scrub so that all my skin just GLOWS, honey.
Essential for summer but good skin is in all year round. If you have keratosis pilarsis or ashy legs this would bust that ish right up. Stimulating your lymphatic flow through scrubs like this will improve the appearance of skin and cellulite if done regularly.
This is a hardcore scrub that I would NEVER use on my face so if you’re looking for a facial scrub try Happy Skin or Herbalism or Don’t Look At Me fresh mask – NOT THIS!.

When using a body scrub, it is important to be gentle and to avoid scrubbing too hard, as this can irritate the skin.
