the speakers are big in diameter but thin. Sounds fine works well but on the ls2 valiant 2 helmet I had to enlarge the pockets in diameter for the speakers to sit flush. The small mic works well for calls.

I have not used the boom mic. There 2 sets of mounting tabs for the B4FM both work well.

Easy install. Easy set up. Works well. Clear voice. Clear radio. Speakers, mic, and wiring fit well inside the helmet. Love them.

Very pleased with the purchase of headset pieces. Shipped in a timely fashion. They were competitively priced and of the same quality as the original parts! Good value! Good purchase!

This is my third Cardo unit, and I’ve used it for about 2k miles before writing a review. It’s not good. PROS : Good connectivity with my phone. USBC charging. CONS: Same price as the older freecom 1+, but worse.

The speaker units are super bad. You either can’t hear the person at 40mph, or your eardrums are bleeding because you need to crank the volume to overcome the terrible sound quality. Music is bad. If you’re doing highway riding and want earplugs in, the drivers are not loud enough to get past the wind noise and earplugs.

Previous units had enough volume to make it work for phone calls and intercom when using earplugs. This one does not. It’s use case is below 40mph, without earplugs only. Also, the curved adhesive mounting plate didn’t work so great on my helmet.

Ive used the older model in my Arai without issue, but I put this unit on the AVG K6, and the curvature of the helmet and Bluetooth mount didn’t work very well. Another hit of double-sided tape fixed it.

Bought these so my wife and I could communicate while riding. Get some wind noise at highway speeds. Generally we hear each other fine. Definitely worth it to be able to communicate on the fly. My wife is a new rider so she likes the occasional “heads-up”.

Connection seems to start fading at about 800 meters. I doubt the claimed range would achievable under any but ideal conditions. Having said that, after just a few rides they are already worth the cost.

When I ride alone I use them for music – and the sound is great.

Awesome little rig with great controls, features and long range. However coma. for the money buy a brand that can handle you getting rained on for more then a few minutes. Literally rained for 5 min.

Ruined the unit and sena more or less told me to get bent. Send in unit and a 100 dollar inspection. After dumping 300 to buy it. No thank you.

Good Kit in a good package. Well presented and comes with everything you could need and clear instructions. That said, it still suffers from the same glitches the other cheaper headsets suffer from. In mesh it struggled to play music and use the intercom.

Like it got confused at times and on returning to music it sounded like a dead robot under water. So I turned my music off. It can do either music or mesh, but not very well CONSISTENTLY together. Mesh also had that robotic interference even when riding side by side practically so switched to Bluetooth only intercom and no issues.

A little disappointing to have these glitches with such pricey kit. The whole experience however, very good. Loud and clear even at speed. I also got mine at a good price which sweetened the blow. Not sure about value, I think they are very expensive for what they are.

But, they work. Re connect without issue too after loosing range contact.

Fiddly to fit, open face helmet with boom mic. A little unpredictable to connect with my brothers 5 year old version. The mic on mine worked fine on intercom but not on phone. I updated the firmware and its fine now.

My brother still has five year old firmware, updating his should sort out the fiddly pairing. Once connected, wonderful. Full continuous hands free duplex talk with almost no wind noise, simple phone answering, clear navigation instructions and music from phone.

I really wanted a bluetooth setup that also offered FM radio, and this was not only one of the few options on the market, but it was so highly rated that I figured i’d give it a shot. Installation was straight forward, but as many people have noted, figuring out all the button presses for the various functions can take a while.

I still don’t know how to do a lot of the functions, but I can get to the functions I normally use. I wouldn’t say it’s intuitive, but it starts to make sense. The main issue I have with this system is the sound quality from the speakers.

It’s a very tinny, high-pitched sound with absolutely no bass. I did read other reviews which said the same thing, but I guess I was hoping they were wrong. The first few times I used it, the tinny sound hurt my ears, but since then I’ve grown accustomed to it.

That’s really the only negative I have though. The FM quality is crystal clear and I’ve never had an issue with reception. Bluetooth is also clear, although when I have my phone in my right-side pocket, the connection sometimes drops out briefly.

Putting my phone in my left pocket (same side as the SENA on my helmet) fixes that. Bluetooth calling is crystal clear and everyone I talked to was shocked that I was not only on a bluetooth connection, but that I was wearing my full-face helmet while riding my scooter.

The downside to talking on bluetooth, and this has nothing to do with this SENA product, is that my voice echo’s throughout my helmet and it actually hurts my ears a little to hear myself talk. I had never talked inside my helmet so I didn’t know this until hooking up bluetooth.

It’s something to think about. If i could change anything, I would like SENA to offer either upgraded speakers for this particular model, or a headphone adapter so that I could just plug in headphones while still using all the features of the SMH5-FM.

Overall, I’m happy with my purchase.

This was the least expensive way for me to try out Bluetooth in my helmet. It seems to be a high quality product. Installation is not difficult, but does require a little time to get right. It works well.

Keep the instructions nearby, because it may take a while before the user gets used to all the functions.

I received this comm for Christmas and had it updated, in my helmet, ready to ride in under half an hour. These are my first impressions. VOICE RECOGNITION – The system recognizes the “Hello Sena” commands first time, every time provided you speak clearly and at a normal conversation volume.

I have a fairly thick southern accent and the system had no problem accurately picking up my voice and understanding what I was saying INSTALL – Depending on your helmet (I run an HJC i90 modular), the installation seemed fairly pain free and straight forward; however, the included instructions were difficult to read and I ultimately ended up looking up a video guide for installation (Sportbike Track Gear has a great tutorial that even walks you through pairing the device to your phone – type in “Smart HJC 20B install” on YouTube, its the first video).

The instructions for operation of the unit were a little bit difficult to understand with certain commands, but after some trial and error I got everything down pretty quickly. SOUND QUALITY – The speakers sound very expansive and responsive to the full width of the audio spectrum, however they do have a bit of trouble when you have some crazy low bass notes in certain metal and rap songs.

Everything from bass heavy dubstep and rap, to high distortion metal and rock, to your good ol’ country and bluegrass sounds like a good quality pair of headphones. As a little bit of an audiophile I don’t really have any complaints, they’re on par with exactly what I expected; not quite as good as a few hundred dollar pair of Bose but not super tinny and thin like a generic brand pair of headphones.

BLUETOOTH – Pairing was quick and simple. There’s vocal prompts for everything with a clear voice, and what the instructions lacked in clarity for installation they make up for in the pairing instructions.

RADIO – Scan and seek features work perfect once you have the controls figured out, saving stations to presets is fairly straight forward, radio reception is clear from what I’ve seen, but I haven’t had much of an opportunity to test it out.

INTERCOM – As of this moment I haven’t had a chance to test out the intercom features due to not having anyone else around with a compatible comm system BATTERY LIFE – Haven’t had a chance to take it out on an extended ride yet, but out of the box it was at around 60% charge MIC QUALITY – I made a few test phone calls and everyone said that it sounded 10x clearer than the microphone integrated into my iPhone.

I can’t speak for the included button mic (as mentioned before, I have a modular helmet), but the boom mic sounds clear from the feedback of my peers and the few recordings I did FIT, FEEL + FINISH – The unit itself is plastic and feels kind of thin, but everything is sturdy and has a very tactile, very audible click to it so I have no worries of using it with gloves on.

PHONE APP – Very dated but serves its functions well, plus there is an integrated quick start and user guide available to download and view through the app for those inevitable brain farts we all have on those long 12+ hour rides SUMMARY – As I just received the unit, I haven’t had an opportunity to get an in depth review lined up; However, the first impression this system gives off leaves me confident in the units abilities for the upcoming season.

Quick and easy install and setup makes this unit feel like it was well thought out and inspires a feeling of quality and trust in the product. Pairing and ease of use with the controls was actually far easier than I expected, absolutely no problems with pairing and the controls were easy to learn and quick to memorize, although a little complicated at first.

The only plus I can give this product is fitment, after that there is nothing positive to say about it. I got this product mainly for listening to music and GPS navigation. The sound quality of these speakers are horrible.

They are extremely tinny to the point that listening for an extended period of time gives me a headache and if you put the volume at full they are extremely distorted. Now I don’t want to have to ride around with these things at full volume but if I put it at a volume where the is no distortion then I can barely hear it.

I don’t expect to have super high clarity when listening to music in my helmet at hwy speeds but at this price point they should be way better. I will keep them for the remainder of the season but come next spring I will be looking for a better alternative.

Volume for phone calls is much louder than when playing music. Sound quality is poor. Treble seems very high, and is painful to listen to music. Wearing ear plugs helps, it cuts out the high sharp tones from the music, but of course requires the volume to be turned up higher.

Voice commands are nice, when they work but sometimes Sena just wont respond. Not sure how this compares to other Sena units or Cardo, this was my first helmet headset, bought it because it had a slimmer style to integrate with the HJC RPHA 70 helmet.

Headsets work very well and have many more features than our old pair. Much easier to set up and pair than older units. Mates well with the newer electronics without multiple attempts, pairs on the first try.

Mounts easily to our helmets. Volume and sound quality is very good, can hear what is being said without straining to hear. Very clear speech and music sounds wonderful. Love these.

Easy to set up and use. Battery level indicator can be a little unreliable, charge up before you ride! Gets loud enough, but if your helmet isnt well noise isolated you’ll need to adjust the volume frequently depending on your speed due to wind noise.

Intercom worked fine for me, but the other person(s) needs a sena too.

I have been out a few times now and the sound quality is very good. The helmet control is fairly easy to use. The blue tooth connects super fast. The only thing is the wind noise at higher speeds starts to cancel out the sound so you have to turn it up, the nature of helmet speakers I guess.

First thing, this is my first real experience with a coms unit. I have used Sena’s with a friend on his sled, but that was only for coms, no music or guidance. Overall I’m pretty happy with the Edge.

After some challenges fitting it into my helmet due to the speaker connection using a huge 3. 5mm jack, and the speaker wires being barely long enough. I finally fit it into the battery compartment that HJC’s have for their proprietary coms system, yes it fits, barely.

Also the clip just didn’t work on my HJC, I had way to much wind noise, I don’t have a windshield, my friend had no such issue. But once I used the adhesive things improved dramatically. You will need to set up the mic sensitivity or you will have audio cut outs as one reviewer mentioned.

I don’t subscribe to the bigger is better when it comes to speakers, but then again I have zero experience with the 45mm speakers, the 40mm sound fine. It is competing with a lot of other noise, so you really shouldn’t expect an audiophile experience.

Use in ears if that’s what your after, it will get you closer and this system will actually accommodate that because of the aforementioned 3. 5mm jack. In summary this is a great unit with excellent features, it connects quickly and consistently, not once since we connected them have we had problems reconnecting.

The voice commands work as they should and the USB C is what you should expect in todays world. Battery life is very good.

When they work, they are great. Unfortunately these devices are finicky and do not function reliably. I would say the mesh communications rate an 8/10, but the bluetooth functions are at best a 6/10.

Volume is a 6/10. Sound Quality is acceptable considering use cases and is not an issue. Speakers MUST be in the correct location (directly over your ears), so you may have to alter your helmet padding slightly.

The speakers fit perfectly in my AGV K6 and my HJC i30. My overall feeling is that you must temper your expectations. The Cardo Packtalk Bold is an excellent communication device, but an underwhelming listening device.

*If high volume for music is an absolute must have for you, a set of in ear monitors will plug right into the headphone jack of this unit. I prefer earplugs and the speakers for comfort. * GOOD: It is fantastic to be able to talk to my riding partner regarding potholes, wildlife, erratic drivers, etc.

and making plans or warning about mechanical issues is absolutely a game changing experience. We ride long distances for multiple days, and it is quite freeing to be able to chat or make a pits stop without planning ahead.

I cannot stress enough how cool it is to be able to say, “Hey, look at that thing! Let’s turn in up there and go check it out!” or “I have to stretch my legs, pull into the next rest area”, or “I’m tired of leading, pull ahead of me”.

It really changes the dynamic of a ride. Mesh connections are usually solid and stable. If communication with other riders or a passenger is your primary use case, it works very well. They have a pretty “reasonable” range when riding with a partner or group.

Waterproof. We ride in rain. It sucks, but we do it anyway. It is nice to be able to listen to my music without making my neighbours listen to my music. 3. 5mm headphone jack allows use of earbuds or in-ear monitors.

NOT SO GOOD: I have not once EVER been able to get the voice commands to work, and must use the phone button to initiate Siri for any voice commands. The real world range on these under the best circumstances in clear weather is about 300m, not even close to the 1.

6km Cardo advertises. I want honesty from these companies. We have never been able to get further than 5 telephone poles away from each other and maintain connection. Reconnection is seamless (mostly), so this is not the end of the world, but it sure isn’t a mile.

The unit does not like to maintain a bluetooth connection with my iPhone while riding, which makes listening to music a pain in the butt. Nothing worse than having to turn off and restart the unit while riding.

For some reason, has never happened during a phone call, only with music or podcasts. I don’t have epic two hour conversations while riding, however, so this may be a matter of luck. The latest firmware and app is awful.

Really. Look up the most recent reviews on app stores. Sound quality for music is acceptable, but the volume is FAR to low for the amount of money paid for a pair of these units. Call volume is good, but the music is not.

I would estimate that they need about 6db of boost increase listenability under all riding conditions. I am not interested in drowning out all outside noise, but a bit more volume is required in my opinion.

Acceptable when going slow, but a bit of wind at highway speeds means you are done listening. Disappointing, especially when advertising (and charging) for JBL branding.

My buddy and I each got a Cardo 4+ and overall we are happy with it. The reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that we sometimes have issues getting connected, but we always manage to get there with a little effort.

Also, these have a habit of cutting out and even losing connection if you don’t keep talking. It seems that if we are silent more than 5 minutes or so, they disconnect. However, we’ve enjoyed having them and being able to communicate while riding.

The range seems to be about 1/8 to 1/4 mile, which is plenty while riding. The batteries last a long time and I can get 4 – 5 rides of a couple hours each before I have to recharge. Also, I’ve found the FM radio feature works well and is nice to have.

My phone pairs with the Cardo very easily and works well on calls. And, you will like the voice commands, so learn them and use them. As for multiple rider pairing up to 4 riders, yes, it’s possible.

But, I find it difficult to get it to work. So, I would say that if you just want to pair with your phone and one other rider, you will like these Cardo 4’s. They’re easy to install and after a learning curve, pretty easy to use.

The JBL sound is also very good, even on the included 40mm speakers. Ride safely!.

I wish I could give this product a negative rating. Not for the product itself but the lack of customer support. I purchased this product a little over a year ago for a brand new Bell Qualifier helmet.

You know the helmet that has the special cut out for the Sena 10S. You also need to purchase the special mount that holds the device into the helmet because the one that comes with the device is for regular external mounting.

So an additional $60 something for that. The issue is this, the clamp that holds the device in the helmet does not hold it securely. The device will pop off when ever you are putting the helmet on or taking it off.

I contacted Sena for a replacement on this piece because the reseller tells me I need to buy another one because there is an updated clamp. The device has a 2 year warranty, so I contact Sena. ZERO help from them.

So long story short, I have to duct tape the thing to my helmet so this expensive device does not fly off while riding! Not good!.

I’ve had one of these on my helmets for 5 years. I’ve thought about upgrading but I like the sleek design of this and it allows me to fit my helmet in my zega pro pannier. I also think a bigger one would attract more people to steal your helmet and when you’ve got a $500+ helmet and a $200 Bluetooth.

you do not want that happening!! Pros: reliability has been great. Never had trouble pairing to my phone and it’s a mainstay on rides. Cons: difficult to pair with other riders when putting it into pairing mode – I have two of these for when I take someone else riding and have a hard time pairing with them – so a lot of times I end up calling them rather than using the Bluetooth.

Special note: if you wear ear plugs, have decently loud pipes and ride at 50+ mph, you’re going to have a hell of a time hearing any podcast – most music will be fine but it won’t be at a volume that’s preferred.

Without ear plugs you’ll be okay but road noise and cranked sena will make you tired far quicker on your long rides. Overall, great unit but I’m curious if the newer ones have better speaker and pairing capabilities.

Sena SMH10R Bluetooth Headset it is good for what it’s worth. It paired easy to my phone. Receiving phone calls and placing phone calls is easy as long as you are not going over 80 mph you are able to talk and background noise cancellation is good.

I use the SMH10R mostly paired to my cell phones GPS for the quickest routes or to find a twisty back road. The SMH10R works well with other blue tooth devices. I think 5 other riders is the max you can link with.

I also like the SMH10R because it is so streamline, I don’t like riding with bulky device that add weight and catches wind drag.

I have been using this for about a month and it is just great. The low-profile aspect is awesome, it just take a few uses to get used to handing the three buttons and their combinations. As another reviewer pointed out, it is mostly treble in the speakers, almost no bass, but it works great for music and calls as it is plenty loud.

Clarity on phone calls and on the comm feature is really impressive; super clear and no lag. The instal can be a little tricky depending on your helmet but it was kind of fun making my setup work the way I wanted to.

The unit does come with a VOX setting enabled that I would recommend turning off. If you say something loud enough, it will trigger the comm. The only problem is that it will trigger by shutting your helmet lid, a big gust of wind, a bump, etc.

I put the second unit in my passenger helmet and the two of them work perfectly together. totally worth the money, and I want all my friends to get it!.

THE GOOD: At highway speeds WITH earplugs in, the FM radio can be heard clearly although it’s not very loud at maximum volume. Without earplugs, maximum volume is a bit too loud and you will need to turn it down so you can be aware of your surroundings.

Telephone sound quality is better than expected and clearly audible at highway speeds. Also, I am told that the sound of my voice on the other end is extremely clear at all speeds. The buttons are big and easy to manipulate with thin/summer gloves.

Installation is straight forward and extra spacers are provided for helmets that have speaker recesses. This is to bring the speakers closer to your ear. THE BAD The mounting bracket did not fit on my helmet so I needed to use the adhesive mounting plate, and because of the shape, I had to put it farther back on the helmet than I wanted in order for it to fit flush.

The radio reception is not as strong as a car stereo but acceptable for the size of the unit. It’s complicated to use all the features because you are controlling several features with just two buttons.

You will have to keep the instruction manual handy until you memorize all the different controls. Not so easy to control when wearing thick winter gloves. Summary: Overall this is a good product, especially considering the price.

It’s nice not to be isolated while riding and to be able to handle work and personal calls while on the road. The radio feature is really nice to have for when traffic gets heavy. The Bluetooth connection is strong whether you keep your phone in a handlebar mount or deep inside your saddlebags or backpack.

Not sure how this compares to other units, but it’s good enough that I’m not interested in trying any others. I’m going to get the speaker/mic kits for all my helmets and take this unit with me whenever I ride.

They were easy to set up and pair to our phones. The clarity is the best I’ve ever heard. Conversation is possible even at 70 mph. I’ve been riding motorcycles and snowmobiles for nearly 50 years and I’ve never had communicators as good as these.

Product exactly as described. Excellent reception for both talking and listening to the radio. The controls are easy to use while wearing gloves and the speakers are better than any I have tried yet.

I would recommend this product for anyone who wants a big bang for there buck !.

My husband and I did alot of research on Bluetooth/intercom headsets, and we kept coming back to this Sena. When we finally received it, we both acted like kids on Christmas morning, and quickly discovered it wasn’t as easy as it looked.

Overall the installation is easy, but you must have patience. The ability to tuck all the wires away can make you frustrated and cross-eyed, but in the end you step back and say “ta-da!”. I cannot speak to the pairing of the headset to our phones, my husband did that.

But I can say that it took him less then 30min and my Sena links to my phone and his Sena to his phone. But the best feature (in my opinion) is the clarity of the intercom system. I am a VERY new rider, like as I’m typing this I have been out on the main road a grand total of 3 times.

But now that we have this intercom system, my husband is literally able to talk to me while we’re out riding. He’s able to remind me things, calm me down when I get nervous, or get me laughing when I take myself too seriously.

And everything is crystal clear, as if he’s sitting shotgun in my car. We even tested the range, and my husband was almost out of my rearview mirror when we started loosing connection. The profile of the unit is extremely slim, especially when compared to other units.

My helmet is an older model Scorpion that doesn’t have cut outs, and this still worked perfectly. Round of applause though to RevZilla. Most our gear we have is because of the countless hours of watching their product review videos, and especially this one for the Sena.

The sound quality is great. I wear disposable foam earplugs and as the speakers are a little thick I fitted them behind the lining on my Shark helmet so I was concerned that they might be too muffled but the sound up to about 60mph is still really good.

At motorway speeds they become background noise to the usual wind noise which is still good and makes a long journey more bearable, and as they’re behind the lining I still find them comfortable.

They are very good for the price. The key seems to be not having a noisy helmet. I ride fine with mine but my buddy has trouble with his noisy helmet if we get over 70. Not the products problem but something to consider when purchasing.

The stock screws that come with this items weren’t great for my Dual Sport style helmet. Little difficult to install in that aspect. The product says up to 420 yards but I feel like my friend and I start losing one another at a much closer distance.

This could be in part due to the curvy roads/hill/trees. Even on the highway I was losing him around 250 yards behind me. Still happy with them and the overall price point. Bluetooth was a game changer for our riding.

Its simple to set up and the units come paired to one another. Dont expect the intercom to work perfectly when you lose line of sight between your bikes, it will crackle a bit but it does help staying in touch.

The product is well made and completely waterproof. Nice touch you can listen to music and SatNav via Bluetooth and FM radio. The size of the loudspeakers obviously limits the sound quality. Having said that its pretty good.

Didnt try phone calls as I like to stay focused on riding. Good value for money, I recommend with the above mentioned caveats.

I bought this unit to do a review on my YouTube channel (FASTLANE) and compared it with the other cheapest SENA currently available the DWO 1 Lite. This is a great little unit but it’s important to understand who this if for.

The SF1 is a passenger to rider communication system, basically it’s not meant to pair with riders on other bikes just you and your passenger. With that being said it sounds great ! The speakers sound much better than the ones on the 1 Lite they have a better bass response and just simply sound of a better quality.

I tried the mic out on a couple phone calls and those on the other end said it sounded really good…plenty loud and clear. The actual unit that sits on the outside of your helmet is of very nice quality it just looks really good and the buttons are very easy to push unlike some cheaper units….

Just feels very responsive :). To summarize this is a great little unit if you want one on one communication with your passenger, want to listen to music , talk on the phone or listen to directions via a maps app.

Would I buy this again…. Yep in a heart beat. It’s a great deal for a high quality little personal unit. I LOVE IT!!!! Get one!.

Good points: – Good quality. – Easy to install. OK points – Slim, sort of. – Controls ok for many people except those with fat fingers (like me) Bad points: – Speakers are terrible. Tried with ear plugs to remove wind noise and without.

Both times you have to have everything on maximum to barely hear anything. – Music is ordinary – Voice from telephone calls is garbage – lot more excess wire length them my other units, which means i have to tack more wire behind the padding.

– Speakers are thick, which you could live with if they were good sound quality, but they are not. Make sure you have recessed area in your helmet otherwise they will be pressing on your ears. Overall i dislike this unit.

Especially a brand name like Sena. I am now off Sena products which are over priced for the quality you get. I do not recommend this unit. Shop around or pay a little more for a different brand.

Now for me it is the second Dual Pack. I always use them. they are perfectly compatible with the BMW TFT. Long-lasting battery and good sound. In the convection there are double speakers, normal and HD ones (a little thicker) I have mounted the HD speakers.

The assembly is easy and intuitive, if you really need to find a defect, the coupling for the speakers could have made it smaller. otherwise they are a great product.
