There are a few different types of bike shorts for thick thighs. One type is designed to be more form-fitting, while others are loose and baggy. Form-fitting bike shorts are usually made from Lycra or spandex, which help to hold everything in place while you’re pedaling.
Loose and baggy bike shorts are often made from cotton or polyester, and they can be a bit more comfortable if you’re not used to wearing tight clothing. No matter which type of bike shorts you choose, make sure that they fit well and don’t ride up when you’re pedaling.
20 Best Bike Shorts For Thick Thighs
1. Aero Tech Designs Aero Tech Men’s Gel Touring USA Padded Shorts W Innovative Mesh Pockets, Size: Large, Blue
Aero Tech Men’s Gel Touring Cycling Shorts has a dense, gel-filled, anti-chafe pad for long touring rides. The Gel Touring Shorts also have a large mesh side pocket, reflective accents and are made in the USA with quality materials and labor.
Aero Tech manufactures this short in all sizes, including tall. The regular inseam (non-tall inseam) is available in seven color options. The Gel Touring Short is our best-selling bike short year after year.
I am 6’8 and 300 lbs. I have been riding regularly for the last year using low end cycling gear. I thought it was time to upgrade and looked forward to getting something better. However, these cycling shorts were not it.
I wear a 2X tall in pretty much everything but in cycling shorts I get a 3X. The first pair I ordered was a 3X tall. It was like wearing a burlap sack. The legs extended well below my knees and the overall fit was very baggy.
So, I ordered a 2x regular and they fit better but the legs still feel long. The main problem I have is that the chamois is absolutely worthless and the ride becomes painful after only about 7-10 miles, not the 6+ hour as advertised.
The cheaper brands I have been using hold up much better even with 30-40 mile rides. Of course, there is no way of knowing how will these will perform without trying them out. Which causes another problem.
The return policy prevents returns after the garment has been used. These shorts are absolutely useless for their intended purpose and I will not be using them again. Instead I will be revert to what I have been using at 1/3 the price.
I suppose the next time I want to flush $90. 00, I know where to buy.
As my birth year recedes into the middle of the 20th Century, one must note that my rear end has grown saggy and the adipose padding that I took for granted is slowly disappearing. So, I’ve had to find just enough padding to make my ride tolerable (along with a thinner leather seat , goodbye Brooks, hello Selle Anatomica) and these new shorts provide even more comfort with the enhanced gell pad.
Previously, I’d used Pearl Izumi, which as an entry-level clothing is good, but I’ve found Aero Tech Designs to be of better quality for long-term use. The fabric holds up much better I’ve found compared to PI.
These are my second pair, with the gell providing just a little more padding without causing seat numbness or the feeling I’m going slide off of the seat. I bought them on sale, and therefore I gave them 5 stars.
Absolutely love that ATD makes sizes that work for us bigger guys. I am 5’10 with a 44 waist thanks to some love handles and extra padding over my butt. With biking and pickleball I am considerably trimmer from the hips down.
So I went with the XXL (red trim) and was very happy with the overall fit. It wasn’t a struggle to get them on but they hug the body and are comfortable. The one issue is that while I had the regular and not the tall fit, to set the crotch in the right place, I had to hike them up a bit.
Once I had them positioned, I just rolled the waistband down to my natural waist. Love the pockets.

This short fits well – though is a little tight in the waistband. However, I only feel this when sitting or wearing before working out (such as driving to track). During my workouts (two so far), this short feels great! It’s comfortable (except for the tightness), and a great length – no chafing! The pockets are sweet – I like them a lot, but haven’t put anything in them yet.
So far, I’ve worn this short for a workout that involved lifting, sit ups, etc. and for a track workout. It was perfect for both! I’ll likely purchase a second short, especially if other colors are available.
I’m usually very picky about bike shorts. However, these are amazing and fit very well. I tested them out by going to the gym and playing intense dance games. They held up super well and did not fall down! Pockets are deep and the length is great.
The only thing I’d suggest to change about these shorts is the level of compression. It has slight compression, but I’d love to see even more or another version with higher compression. I most likely will buy another pair, too! The soft material and fit make this pair well worth it.
The ZOIC Ether Shorts are a mash-up of high-tech features, fantastic comfort, and understated style, and as per all ZOIC offerings, it’s made of recycled materials wherever possible. With a strong polyester shell and UPF 50+ rating, the exterior protects for a full day out on trail.
The chamois, called the Zo-Tech, is Zoic’s highest-quality, multi-level, stretch chamois made with recycled polyester to cushion impact and reduce vibrations in the saddle. The liner is also fully removable to enhance the versatility of the Ether.
The Fusion Gusset inseam increases the short’s range of motion and eliminates seat hang-ups, while vents below the waistband in the back and down the legs promote airflow so you can stay cool on hot days of riding.
The Ether also comes with plenty of pockets — two front, two thigh, and one back — so you have plenty of room for your essentials. There’s even a dedicated media pocket for your phone or music player with a headphone cord control grommet and loop to avoid snags.
Been on 6 rides w/ these shorts averaging about 15 miles each of single track. I’m getting older(read slower) so for MTB rides on the local trails kitting up is a little over kill. I have always been a bib guy so I was a little worried about comfort.
They are comfortable & more importantly you are not thinking about them while you ride. I don’t use hydration packs so the pockets can hold phone, wallet, multi tool, & gel w/o getting in the way. The liner/pad is good but I would not recommend washing them snapped together as straps may be the weak link.
They seem true to size & there is pretty good adjustability w/ the Velcro straps. I got the yellow ones & like the color but I kind of feel like they are fading already. W/ that being said I have never put any cycling clothes in the dryer.
The shorts are nice for what they are but I have had 2 pairs and on both the zippers failed in very little time. I bought a pair and wore them maybe 5 times and the zipper on the pocket and fly broke.
REI exchanged them for another pair. Today I went out and the zipper on both side pockets would not close. I probably wore this pair at the very most 10 times. I wash them and hang dry them so I don’t think it’s me breaking the zippers.
Just be careful and if I were you spend a little more money on a different brand. You wouldn’t want to lose your car keys on the trail.
It was great, however there is not a lot of support in them. They are not like regular bike shorts that fit really snug. The fit close to the body and are also very cool and comfortable. You will not sweat in these like you would in the really snug bicycle shorts.
When I first tried them on I thought that I wouldn’t like them. But after wearing them all day I changed my mind. I have most of the colors now. I haven’t washed and dried them yet. But I’m pretty sure they will do up fine.
I have other items from 32 Degrees made from the same material and they wash & dry great! Love them!.
Love everything they make. Have dresses, bras, flowy tanks in just about every color, coats and leggings. Theses are comfy and do not roll. I’m 5’1” and fluctuate between 152-157. I read reviews and went with a Large, but should have gotten a Medium.
I’m keeping them though. Will buy more in M. Make more colors please. A pocket would be nice too. Light support, as stated in description. That’s a plus for no muffin top. Some reviewers say they changed.
I don’t know what they were like, but I’m pleased with them, April 2022.
Overall not bad for the price. Found these on sale for under $5 and figured I couldn’t go wrong. I normally wear size small in Kirkland leggings (snug fit) so I figured order a small thinking it would fit the same.
Turns out these are on the bigger size and I will start ordering XS from now on. These still fit great, I just don’t have the hips and waist to hold them up. These started to creep down at first, but further into my workout, they held just fine.
Train and stay motivated in total sporty comfort in the skechers gowalk wear 10 inch high waisted cycling shorts. These athletic shorts feature moisture-wicking goflex nylon-spandex blend fabric, anti-chafing seams for total comfort, and exterior side pockets.
Castelli have been innovators since their inception, from the first consumer-available Lycra cycling shorts to anatomical seat pads to flat leg grippers. This heritage, knowledge and experience are all part of the Entrata Waist Cycle Shorts, giving you entry-level shorts with a high-end performance that are just right from the moment you pull them on.
You’ll be riding further and faster and more comfortably than ever before. The Pro Dry matte Lycra provides the ideal level of compression, remains perfectly flexible for smooth pedalling and deals efficiently with sweat.
Giro3 leg grippers give a smooth but firm grip of the legs. And as with every Castelli short, the fit is sublime, the 8-panel design hugging and flexing in all the right places for outstanding comfort.
They’re made to last too, with the logos and reflective details are stitched in so no peeling even after season after season of use. Perfect. KISS Air2 Seat Pad When you’re on the bike you’ll also enjoy on-the-saddle comfort from Castelli’s KISS Air2 seat pad.
Next to the skin, you’ll enjoy the luxury of Castelli’s softest ever surface fabric, delivering immediate comfort. Seamless construction and stretch fit all but eliminate chafing as you push the watts.
Next comes the dual-density, variable thickness padding. This sees maximum density and thickness across the ischial zone, reduced thickness around the perineum and then minimum thickness at the edges.
This is all wrapped up in an anatomically shaped pad for optimal comfort for any distance.
I decided to try bibs for the first time after 20 years of using exclusively “regular” cycling shorts. I have never had a problem with regular cycling short fit or comfort so this was more of a “try it to see what all the fuss is about”.
For reference, I am 6ft tall and right around 200lbs with 34inch waste and a 33 inch inseam. As you will see in other review, buy these big. Given my proportions noted above, I bought 2 sizes bigger (XXL) than I would normally buy (L) in clothing and it was a good call.
That size fits comfortably, including the shoulder straps. It is “compression snug” through the main part of the short. The one thing I would change would be to make them a little shorter, I find these fit longer than my preference, but I knew this when I bought it as I had seen references in other reviews.
The shorts stayed comfortable throughout a 2. 5 indoor trainer ride where almost all the time is spent in the saddle, so the chamois is well designed. As for the bib, don’t mind it, but I definitely find it warmer than regular shorts, especially for indoor riding.
As noted above, I have never had an issue with fit on regular shorts so not sure I am sold on the bib concepts, but didn’t mind it. Overall, a solid short that I would consider purchasing again.
First off I’m shorter at 5’5 so can’t speak to should strap issues that other might experience, but they are also designed for an on the bike position. Something to keep in mind. I didn’t find them wildly tight.
Medium is more comfortable for me if I want less compression (waist 30 and hip 31. 5) but small works and isn’t too tight either. So for most 1 size up should probably work but of course course we’re all different.
A few friends who also have these have found 1 size up to be good. They’re also taller with no strap issues noted. Pad is great. Actually as good or better than some of castellis higher end ones or those more expensive ones from PI.
Holds up well for long rides outside or for used on the trainer. Did my longest ride at 250km with these with no issues. Little bit of side stitching coming loose but that’s after a few thousand k’s.
Same with a bit of fabric thinning on the backside. But still that’s after some proper total mileage. Leg grippers are straight up and do the job. VS the competizione you are really getting more compression with that one.
I didn’t notice much difference. Pad is the same. Cheaper to go with these. Also have the plain shorts version but bibs are always better and stay in place way better VS shorts. Overall solid for the price point with little reason to spend more honestly.
I’m 175cm, 77kg. S/M in other brands, Castelli’s size chart put me between a Medium and Large. Tried both and decided to keep the medium, the chamois area of the Large had too much space. Potentially enough to cause chaffing and the leg inseam was too long.
Medium is noticeably tighter but the fit felt better in the crotch and leg inseam was perfect. Only complaint is the chamois area felt “short” in the front. Chamois at this price point is unbeatable in my opinion, you get Castelli’s best chamois which is also one of the better ones on the market too.
On to the straps. The straps for both the medium and large definitely feel tight/short when you’re just standing in the bibs. But in my experience, when riding there is zero chaffing, discomfort, or pulling.
I also don’t use a base layer so the straps sit directly on my skin. I’ve used them for about 12 rides ~350kms now, I’m happy with them.
The Top Shelf padded cycling short is an eight-panel, anatomically designed bicycle short that hugs the muscles for support and reduction of muscle fatigue. Bike Shorts prevent chafing by eliminating seams between the legs.
The Top Shelf Chamois pad has an excellent fit which is impossible with one piece pads. The surface of the chamois is an antibacterial, micro-fine brushed polyester fabric that wicks the perspiration away from the chamois area to keep you dry and comfortable on long rides.
You will appreciate the great fit of the Top Shelf Chamois pad, a fit you can’t get with a seamless construction. Like a baseball, the chamois pad has seams cut with curves to fully and efficiently wrap all the curves between the legs.
The crotch area has three severe curves, the torso and two thighs which all have a steep curvature. To maximize the fit, it would be impossible to fit all these curves with a single flat piece of fabric.
To effectively protect this area, the top shelf chamois padding is assembled by sewing curved wings onto the primary pad area, this creates an excellent fit that maximizes protection and saddle sore prevention.
I must say I am very pleased with this cycling pant. I saw no fitting issues with the XL pant I purchased. Really like the stair stepping sit pad in the pants and also how the thinner pad is a lot wider than my pants in the past.
It’s been several years of finding a good pant to fit this larger body. The non-draw string is not an issue with me as for others that have reviewed this pant. Also, I am pleased that the company, Aero Tech is regional to where I live and the merchandise is made in USA.
The only negative I found is I was expecting the pants to made of heavier material being an 8 panel pant. I have waited to give my review because I wanted to see how these cycling pants held up after a washing and they are fine, all intact! So, in closing I have plans in the near future to purchase another 2 pairs and hope to get a few good years of riding out of them.
The sell price is great for an eight panel riding shorts. They fit nicely, look good, and fell confortable. I’ve ridden two 20 mile rides and seem to have a little problem. It is almost like the padding should have been moved to the back about half an inch.
The rear part of the padding just cover my sit bones so that is confortable. However, the front part of the crouch area has to much material bunched up that it cause chaffing. Moving the padding back a little would give more sitting support and less material up front.
I was excited to order these as long-distance padded shorts seem to be increasingly hard to find. I have several pair of the Elite padded shorts which I’ve washed and worn many times – but the Luna short is nowhere in the same league.
I am SO disappointed. The quality is not even close to previous purchases – shorts are very (very!) thin, and there’s virtually zero compression. Even if I sized down due to the overall low-quality fabric I do not think it would help, and I would not expect these to last long.
Previously have made several purchases – other products/padded shorts – but these are going back and I’m moving on to other cycling apparel vendors.
The Zoic Women’s Navaeh 7in Shorts are worn on trails across the globe, and that’s because they’re the quintessential trail shorts in Zoic’s line. With a name that’s almost heaven spelled backwards, it’s no surprise that these baggies draw acclaim for buttery-soft, flexible fabric.
Breathable, lightweight performance makes the hot rides a little easier to handle, and the 7-inch inseam is neither overly baggy, nor is it too short, striking just the right balance between pedaling mobility and optimal coverage on the trail.
Not only are the Navaehs Zoic’s most popular trail shorts, but they’re dialed with a slew of functional features for storing all your trail needs and preventing irritation. Six pockets give you ample space for trail snacks, smartphones, and multi-tools, complete with cord routing for jamming out on the trail.
Locking zipper pulls prevent these pockets from dumping out the minute you plunge into a rocky section of trail. Other key features include a stitchless hem that prevents scratchiness, as well as an inseam gusset for unrestricted pedaling.
Been wearing the same pair since Nov 2019. The front zipper just broke, for seemingly no reason, which is disappointing for a product this expensive. The shorts are otherwise still in good condition.
The overshort is a bit too stretchy and sometimes catches on the front of the seat. The pockets are excellent for during and after rides – the thigh pocket easily fits a large cell phone. Plus you have enough space for snacks, sunglasses, whatever you need to stash.
I am curvy in my hip and thighs, with a smaller waist. The chamois liner shorts fit really well, and the overshort fits well when I have the velcro tightened all the way. They don’t gap in the back.
I needed a comfortable mountain bike short for my “new” post-menopause body. These fit great and work like a charm. I use my more minimalistic tri shorts underneath. I’ve even taken to wearing them when I have some longer around-town errands, where I will be in the saddle long enough to want bike shorts, but also want the convince of pockets.
I got the 7″ inseam first and they were a bit shorter than ideally functional for mountain biking (and didn’t have a phone pocket) so came back for this longer inseam. (I’ll still wear the 7″ ones for warmer days.
) Love the adjustable waistband and side pocket that comfortably fits my phone (Samsung Galaxy S9+) while riding. Great breathability and stretch. Was able to wash all the mud out after a wet ride also.
For reference, I’m 5’5″, 135 lbs, with wider hips/legs than on top, and medium was the right size.

My thighs are a bit chunky so I ordered these shaping bike shorts. I love them so much! About to buy 2 more pair. They are super stretchy and come up high so no roll down. They stay in place unlike some other shorts which rolled up (so annoying).
They are a little sheer but with underwear, its fine. I wear them with skirts and dresses, I can’t keep up with the laundry so I’m getting some more so I can wear these everyday. Btw when you wash them they look super small but they stretch.
I have big hips and thunder thighs, so finding shape wear that doesn’t roll or squeeze my larger-than-average thighs is difficult. These fit me smoothly down the thigh, and comfortably in the waist. For the price, these are a fantastic find!.

I love these shorts so much. They are so soft and they have large pockets but the pockets aren’t uncomfortable at all or ‘bulgy’ but very functional. I am very petite at 4’9 and 109 pounds so I have a hard time finding leggings/shorts that won’t fall off my hips even getting the appropriate size but the fabric on these hugs your body just right so they stay where they belong and the fact that they are high rise makes it even better for tummy control so they are great to wear under dresses and skirts for me as well.
I have an iPhone 13 pro max and it fits on either side pockets and I can fit my car key in the pocket inside the seam when I go for a run in these as well! I will be buying more colors once they are available.
I purchased two pairs of these shorts in store in Black Soot and really liked them. So, I went online to order more. It appeared that they were out of the Black Soot in my size. I found a different short with the same name available in “camo” colors in my size.
I ordered a couple pair of those. They weren’t the same quality as the solid color ones. They’ll do, but I much preferred the Black ones over the Camo.
Soft and comfortable. They are a good length and don’t ride up. I noticed some reviews complaining about the thin material however I prefer this material. Even some of the very expensive brands have this same material.
The tag says for yoga or lounging and typically thinner material for those activities. I wear them for walking and working out.
The soft, compression fabric gently smooths without squeezing, so you stay focused through your workout, even better breathable bike shorts shield you from the rays with UPF 50+ sun protection. Low profile side pocket stows your phone on the move.
Flattering arched back seam and sleek, high-waist give you all the coverage you need. Part of our Champion Made initiative, bike shorts are made with a percentage of recycled polyester fibers, which helps keep plastic bottles out of landfills.
Level up your sport look and team with coordinating sports bras.
I’ve been looking for a bike short that’s cute and comfy and the Champion Athletics – Sport Bike Short is perfect! I ordered size large and the fit suits my frame perfectly. I’m 5’2 and carry a little extra weight (that’s why I’m biking) and the high waist style did not roll down while I was being active , it has great stretch and breathable compression fabric and the length of the short fell right above my knee.
I love the look of the logo along the leg and there’s also a pocket for your phone! Super cute and trendy! I have the shorts in black but I plan to purchase additional colors. You can wear them for any type of exercise!.
Absolutely awesome shorts. Run larger than black ones. But I am only happy about that. I think the fabric in blue color is simply stretcher. They look and wear awesome. Bought leggings in the same pattern and color.

I typically LOVE everything commando makes. In fact as soon as I saw these I bought them in both colors. Unfortunately, they do not fit like the photo. I am built similar to the model and I’m 5’9”. The shorts were much longer on me also they were big in some areas.
They looked sloppy. Also the white shorts were extremely transparent. I personally did not love these shorts.
I am in LOVE with these shorts and have just purchased my second pair. The fabric is so incredibly soft and has a magical “cushiony” feel to it as well. For what it’s worth– I let a friend borrow them recently and she immediately asked for details so that she could purchase her own.
These are AMAZING! The neoprene is incredibly flattering especially with the smoothing waistband and the length is great, not too short like others I’ve seen. These are really comfy but feel super luxe and dressy at the same time!.

I discovered this brand not too long ago and the truth is that I have to tell you that I have become a fan. I like the quality, the finials, the fabric and even the presentation. And speaking of presentation, DANISH ENDURANCE products come in an eco-friendly kraft bag that already speaks to the meaning they want to give to the brand.
Close, sustainable and handmade. This for me is something that I loved because it says a lot about quality control. The comfort is absolute. Super comfortable, lightweight and with a perfect fit. The perfect chamois and the non-slip thighs also work perfectly as well as the waist.
And as I was also telling you about quality control, it is clear that they do their homework. Everything is absolutely well finished, no loose threads, no weak stitches. all the great finials. It is breathable and also quick drying.
It is designed to be enjoyed in summer, late spring, more or less, although of course it depends a little more on your sensitivity to the cold. ✅ It has been particularly a discovery and the truth is that I can totally recommend it to you.
The women’s cycling shorts are of very good quality, both technical and tailor-made. When evaluating a bib shorts, these are the most important points to keep in mind: ▪ The length of the pants, must be in the middle of the leg, it fulfills it.
▪ Elastic legs should fix the pants to the thigh so that it does not go up, it fulfills it. ▪ The chamois or butt protector is narrower on the front than on the back and have enough soft padding, fulfills it.
▪ Wide and strong waistband, fulfills it. ▪ Flat seams, you have them. ▪ Stretchy and breathable fabric. ▪ It has very good confection. The size is correct. I wear a 36-38 pants and ordered the S. Very good priced quality.
Actually, there’s not that much to write about these pants. It fits easily, is very comfortable and has a good seat pad. My wife is 165 cm tall and weighs about 52 kilos, she chose a size M and says that the pants fit perfectly comfortably, don’t cut in anywhere, and the rear is still fine for 100 kilometers at a time.
And that’s what it really comes down to. The workmanship is good and valuable, but we will only know how durable it is after next season. By the way, my wife used to ride these pants both on a road bike and on a mountain bike, both work equally well.
The price is completely okay for this! 5 stars and buy recommendation!.

Really nice length on these, pockets on both sides are super useful. The fabric is super smooth and soft but still lightweight. Fits pretty good, and whilst they do slide down a little bit I don’t recommend going down a size else it gets too uncomfortable.
I wear these for running and for tennis and they are brilliant with the pockets for phone/keys and tennis balls. I haven’t had a problem at all with the leg width, as in other reviews. I am a slim 8/10 and found the S fitted perfectly.

These are fantastic shorts. I’m so glad I bought them to wear under my shorter skirts. If you are looking for a little extra coverage, these are the shorts for you. They are thin but do the job. If you are looking for control top these are not the shorts.
I wish they made them in a few colors. I would have bought another pair if they came in Navy.
These shorts are absolutely unflattering. They dig in and make a waist look worse than it actually is. I have multiple pairs of the Everbrand legging (amazing!) which smooths out the waist line and does not cut in at all, making for a very flattering waist even with a tight t-shirt.
This new style gives you rolls under a tight t-shirt and is uncomfortable too. I ordered a couple different sizes and they are all bad fits. I don’t normally write reviews but I had to here. I even took side by side pics in my Everbrand legging size M and Hereafter bike short size M to show the difference, but looks like we can’t add a photo to our review to prove it.
I honestly look 30lbs heavier in the hereafter style. Unless you are a size S, I wouldn’t waste your time ordering these because you’ll just want to return them.
I’ve always been a bit skeptical of bike shorts – as someone who is 5’3″, I want to get every bit of length out of these stubby legs that I can. I’ve tried pairs that are too long, and of course ones that are too short.
The length of these bike shorts are perfect, plus the rise is high enough to make me feel comfortable when wearing a cropped sweatshirt or tank (lots of rises SAY they’re high, but end up being lower than I’d like and often hit me in a less flattering place on my midsection).
The fit is just right when it comes to compression too – nice and snug but doesn’t squeeze too tight around my thighs. I also love the color. Wore these hiking for 3 days during a heatwave [insert sobs here] and feel like they could’ve gone a couple days more before even needing to be washed.
Plus I felt cute in the matching sports bra (even though I was pouring sweat and cherry-red). 10/10 would recommend to every single person considering investing in these!.
I love love love these. I wore them four days straight while I was in the desert and the length is just perfect. I didn’t have any issues with my thighs rubbing together. It’s super high waisted so I wore the bra and the shorts together and felt completely comfortable! The side pockets are so helpful with storing your phone or other small items.
Assuming you are asking for a conclusion on bike shorts for thick thighs, I would say that they are a great option for riders who want extra comfort and support. They can help prevent chafing and saddle sores, and they also provide extra warmth in colder weather.
However, they can be difficult to find in stores and may be more expensive than regular cycling shorts. Overall, bike shorts for thick thighs are a great option for riders who want extra comfort and support.
