great price for a decent mongoose product. a little heavy but I have upgraded it with new not plastic pedals, rear shock I got was non spring, but air actuated. then I got both disc rotors (red). remember the front rotor is 180 mm and rear is 160mm.
that’s great stopping power if u adjust it right. I put it through a beating on our road being redone with huge hills and sand and mud. it did very well. I also am changing the brake and shift housing from black to shimano sis grey.

After buying the Giant Reign Advanced 0, I was looking at the 27. 5 and 29r Trance bike for my young adult daughter. First off, the bike is just beautiful. We put a few pieces of oil slick on, and the bike looks like a scarab beetle.
Just great paint, and subtle colors splashes. Well done. The SLX drive train shifts really well, very fast to dump gears before a climb, and can shift under power. Unlike the review below, the 2021 Giant Trance 29 2 that we just received has the correct rim width and ETRTO of 622×30 with Minion DHF in 2.
3. Which is the wider “all mountain” sized rim width that created a wider tire contact patch and allows for the rider to put lower pressures without punctures. I wonder if it was it an earlier spec? There have been changes during the model year (for example the Reign had 160mm lyrics and 170mm DVO forks in the same year).
I’ve ordered the fork travel upgrade (130mm–140mm) from Fox for only $34usd, and this will slacken the head tube by a half degree, and provide a bit more travel. Take out one volume spacer and set sag to 30% for a bit more mid-stroke float.
Much needed here in eastern Ontario. The tire pressures from the store where ridiculously high (more than double the 22/24psi that was appropriate for the rider during store fitting. This made the first ride harsh.
After touching the tires and finding them at 60psi we just shook our heads at the dealer (this is not a road bike lol). The shifters and levers should be positioned inboard of the grips to allow for proper single finger use, and the reach adjustment for the lever is a great feature.
Brakes are excellent overall for this style of bike. If you rip downhill and want to use semi-metallic or sintered brake pads, the rotors will need to be changed as well (only downside to Shimano’s resin-pad specific system).
Bars have more than enough capacity to be cut down, which we did at home to fit. Overall very pleased.

Fantastic bike overall, hung my Felt Edict Pro up finally as it was a little “loose”. Love the supple travel and well thought out lockouts. Wheels feel heavy but I’m coming from a 26″ race whippet full suss so theyre probs par for the course.
Gearing fantastic, great to have ultra low bail out sprockets. Swapped out saddle and bars for old time favourites ,not because they’re bad. Buying some semi slicks as I’m over tyred at the moment , no need for 2.
4s currently. Quickly got sag/rebound set up with no issues regarding the “hidden” shocker. The only downside is it draws a bit of attention ! The guys at SF were great from start to finish, I’d definitely recommend the shop.
Love the suspension lockout, once you get to grips with the extra levers 👍 and the bike just climbs and spins wheels brilliantly. Only complaint- Paint job is a bit thin & scratches way to easy compared to Trek, Specialised, Klein or Marin which all have an excellent paint job.
I’ll look at repainting the complete bike in a year or even less.

Summary: She RIPS!! Long version: I was a little skeptical buying a bike online that I hadn’t tested in real life before. There wasn’t much info available about the aluminum version of this bike. I based my decision mostly off geometry.
I liked the weight, the components were of decent quality and the super boost spacing was a great plus. Overall, the bike ticked most of my boxes and it was available on Affirm credit too. (Side note: could the people doing bike reviews please realize that the average consumer doesn’t have the money for the top end models, so the reviews would be better suited if done on more affordable models) The shipping was a bit of a mess.
Evo made things right with me in this regard and to be fair, Fedex has been missing deadlines for a lot of my packages. (Covid-19) The bike came and I hurriedly put the wheels, bars and pedals (pedals not supplied with bike) together, pumped up the suspension (pump also sold separately) and took it to the local trails to test it out.
I did notice that the chain stay wasn’t supplied with the bike like advertised, Evo once again has done right with me in this regard. My Dudes!! I am still amazed at how this bike can shred. I thought I was fast before, but this thing has taken my riding ability to the next level.
(Albeit I am comparing this to a < $1000 bike). I like dirt jumps and downhill trails as well as a bit of trail riding. This bike does it all and it does it all very well too. If you were my buddy in real life and comparing bikes, I would 100%, absolutely, urge you to make the purchase on this DeVinci Django.

I originally wrote a complete different review and updated it the more I rhode the bike and the more upgrades I put on it. Looking back I was really soft on the review and tried too hard to like this bike.
I accept full responsibilty for my dissappointment as I had previously bought 2 Specialized “Pitch” xc models for my Wife and daughter. You couldnt unload the bikes without the chains coming off. and riding any kind of rough terrain, even by “XC” standards was a nightmare as the bikes were clearly built for flat ground.
With the shortage of bikes lately and all the hype surrounding the new stumpjumper I figured I would give it a try being that my Son has grown into my Salsa Rustler 27. 5 and the chances of me ever riding it again is ZERO.
What a waste of time and money! Here is the truth. The new rear pivot set up creates an unstoppable and very severe Pedal Bob. The height of the lower bracket has to be a mistake. What a crucial oversight! With the flip chip in high position, ultra low profile pedals and an upgraded EVOL 3 position rear shock with maxium psi in FIRM position.
Pedal Bob and Pedal Bite still ruined every ride! Even in the most mello climb over the smallest element you can plan on getting launched. The ultra skinny rims allow for a 2. 4 at max. After riding 2.
6 tires one realizes that 2. 4 and under is NOT a trail tire and can be a real disappointment when riding rough terrain. The rear tire on this bike (on a decent downhill) is very unpredictable. It makes the bike feel like it is too small.
But I also rhode the next size up and it felt exactly the same. The bike is a tank in the weight department and over all is nothing more than a gravel bike with suspension. This bike is NOT a true “trail bike.
” The only people liking this new model are the ones who have never ridden anything else, or dont ride anything past beginner trails. In all seriousness this model of Stumpjumper is dangerous if you plan on riding intermediate or above.
The overall geometry makes it very “front heavy” meaning that you literally have to run the front tire into obstacles instead of being able to place the front wheel where you please with half a pedal like most trail/enduro bikes.
This also may play into why the rear wheel will not track. If you are just cruising, or are blesses with smoothly groomed descents then you may find this bike useable. but if youre pushing beyond a beginner level.
this is NOT the bike you want. Lost some serious $$ on the resale! Got the Trek ex7 and it is NIGHT AND DAY. Will never buy another Specialized!.
Size – I want to throw out there that I’m 6’6″ with a 39″ inseam, and I weigh probably 230ish with all my gear on. The S6 is about just an inch short for me, but the bike shop says I can remedy that with a longer dropper post.
Experience – I have ridden my 2022 Stumpjumper alloy (Black) S6 4-5 times now. Most of my riding is on moderate (blue) or difficult (black) trails with a mixture of flow/jumps and techy sections. Since 2009, I have been riding a Specialized Rockhopper base model.
I didn’t realize that it was an XC bike, and I was riding it like it was a class 4 trail bike. I abused the S*** out of that bike until the drivetrain and suspension were shot. Thus, the upgrade. With all that being said, I’m loving my Stumpjumper Alloy.
It is an amazing difference. I will recommend if you have the cash, upgrade to the Stumpjumper Alloy Comp (assuming it becomes available again). For the following reasons: – My cable disk brakes on my rockhopper have less travel in the hand lever to obtain the stopping power you need.
I dare say it might actually have more stopping power. New brakes will be one of the first upgrades. – I wish the drivetrain shifting was a little tighter and smoother. However, it has never slipped or failed to shift.
I’m really nit picking here. Overall, it is a solid bike, and I don’t regret my purchase. I would also recommend it to a friend. Just know the braking will take some getting used to. You can adjust the brake lever position which helps.

I bought this bike a few months ago and I am very glad I did. The brakes are very powerful and the suspension makes for a very smooth ride. The vast amount gears is useful on hills however when on gear 7 turning up to gear 8 it can sometimes not change and trip to another gear.
The delivery speed was incredible as it came 2 days after I ordered it! Overall, this is a very high quality bike and every pound is worth it!.
I am not a great off-roader at 67 but this gets me along the tracks and canal banks around here and over the grassy and muddy meadows. It is also perfectly good on the road and gets along well with little more effort than my road bike.
I am a bit heavy so the great brakes are used a lot and are very sound and get the speed off very well. Gears change with little fuss and there is a good range. And it was all at a good price!.
I ordered the GT Agressor Expert off Evans cycles. Although very happy with the bike itself and the prompt delivery I am disappointed with the overall setup. I have had numerous issues with the gears so far and have had to take the bike to be setup properly by a qualified bike mechanic.

I was looking for a new MTB for my 5’0″ daughter who outgrew her 24″ Novara MTB. I had nailed down the choices to three 27. 5+ MTB: this Salsa Rangefinder Advent X 27. 5+, the Co-op DRT 2. 1, and the Trek Roscoe 6.
The Roscoe 6 has a strange geometry in that the reach is very short compared to the relatively tall standover and stack. My daughter loved the purple color, and I loved that it came with a dropper post and a 1×10 Shimano Deore drivetrain.
But that fit just wasn’t right. The Small Roscoe was too tall (754mm standover and 614mm stack, with 364mm reach) and my daughter had a hard time on the trails with it. She was much more comfortable on the XS, but I was concerned she would quickly outgrow it as the reach on the XS is only 351mm, but with a 731mm standover and 603mm standover.
Trek markets the XS Roscoe 6 as fitting a 4’6″ to 5’1″ person. Yeah, right! Is that person “all legs”?? Enter the Salsa and the DRT. Both have similar size XS frames at ~400mm reach, ~600mm stack, and 680-700mm standover.
The XS Salsa 27. 5+ targets persons 5’2″ to 5’6″ in height, whereas the XS DRT 2. 1 supposedly fits persons 5’0″ to 5’3″. I had high hopes for the Salsa. It has a lovely silver sheen and the frame really is light, especially compared to the DRT.
Although the Salsa’s spring fork is much heavier than the DRT’s air fork, the frame is much lighter with the DRT really being weighed down at the back end of the frame. The 1×10 Advent drivetrain is decent, but not nearly as nice as the 1×12 SRAM drivetrain on the DRT.
While the Salsa only has a BOOST thru-axle on the fork and a QR axle on the rear hub, I was more than willing to accept this given the $500 price differential and weight difference. I would be real tempted to take a $1699 Salsa Rangefinder 27.
5+ Deore, even with the QR rear axle, over the $1599 DRT 1. 2, except for one thing: that seat-tube design. The seat-tube on the Rangefinder is relatively straight (compared to some other common designs out there), so you should have a wide range of seatpost insertion options.
Unfortunately, Salsa went overboard with the water bottle/accessory mounting positions (there are bottle cage mounts on the downtube, seat-tube, and even an accessory mount on the top-tube). This is geared towards bikepackers, but they they ruined any flexibility for seatpost insertion.
The bottle cage mount bolts on the seat-tube limit you to only 90mm of insertion. I pulled out the bolts only to find that the welded screw tube extend about 15mm into the seat-tube, so there is no way to put the seatpost in any further without major surgery deep inside the narrow seat-tube.
Furthermore, Salsa supplies a 400mm seatpost with the bike, which leave the seat so high that a 5’9″ guy like myself would have a hard time sitting on the bike. Just look at how high the seat looks in the REI photos.
It MIGHT be able to be dropped about level with the head-tube in the photo, but no more (at least on the XS). That is unsatisfactory. My daughter would only be able to ride the bike if the seatpost were cut to 330mm or less.
Try a dropper you say? Good luck with that. Again, with only 90mm of insertion, the crown of a dropper would be sticking several inches out of the seat-tube, rendering it virtually useless for a shorter person.
You would probably be limited to a 80-100mm travel dropper just to get the crown low enough for the dropper to have any usable travel whatsoever. And be super careful with getting close to that full 90mm insertion: that bolt mount is in the way and will destroy the end of the dropper (or worse, the actuator) if you are not careful.
In fact, the end of the seatpost was pretty mangled from the REI tech attempting to insert the post deeper that it already was. With all the seatpost problems, we gave up on the test ride and took the DRT 2.
1 out for a spin. While it is much heavier, my daughter had no problems getting on it. And the kicker? The DRT 2. 1 comes with a 125mm dropper that can be FULLY inserted into the seat-tube almost to the crown! She can make use of the full range of the dropper as-is, and there is plenty of room to raise the dropper as my daughter grows.
All-in-all, I really wanted to like the Salsa. Its low weight. Its great finish. An opportunity to save money now and invest in upgrades later to make sure my daughter really likes MTB-ing. But that was all wasted by the seat-tube.
I happily spent the extra $500 on the heavy Co-op DRT 2. 1, confident that my daughter had a bike that fit today and well into the future.
I’m just getting back to mountain biking after a while. Wow the bikes have come a long way. The tires are great, breaks are crisp, seat is comfortable, the handlebar inspires confidence and very comfortable for long trips.
This salsa is fantastic. It’s a great price and you get quite great starter components. Very stable and confident. Mine came with pedals. The description says it does not. Maybe my local REI threw them in for me.
I was very pleased. I highly recommend getting a dropper post. This feature by the way has got to be the best invention for bikes. I purchased one upon buying the bike and installed it myself. Very easy installation with basic tools.
Just watch the video online. I am extremely happy with this purchase and I would recommend to anyone looking for a basic mountain bike with great features.
I’m 5’11, so I usually opt for the Large, got the Medium. The Salsa’s run large, so if your ordering online opt accordingly. I got my first 27. 5 at R. E. I. last year at a garage sale, it was the store brand in a large and it was tiny, so I had to add a longer neck and bigger front shock.
This bike is everything I was looking for, air fork, 12 speed, dropper 27. 5. I’m brutal on bikes, the 29′ wheel’s will fold on me. I’ve been riding for 40 years+ and have owned hundreds of bikes, this is my all time favorite and my local R.

This is a great mid-level mountain bike for an affordable price. I’m 5’9” and generally buy large frames from other manufacturers, but the medium frame for the salsa fits me well. I was skeptical about the microShift advent x, but honestly it shifts smooth between gears.
The color of the bike in the images does not do it justice. I was surprised to see that it has a nice black pearlescent finish. There is some room for upgrades but hey, that’s okay with me for the starting price of this bike.
REI bike shop was great! They walked me through the proper sizing and setup of the bike. The pedal sheered off on my first ride causing me to return the bike for a larger size and because of the pedals.
I got an XL rangefinder and upgraded the pedals before I brought it home. REI is great at servicing bikes and setting you up for success!.
